Watchable but not great
adrianaprsouza-6388616 November 2021
The Midas Touch (2020) is a film to watch alone or with a partner as it is an erotical comedy. This is something that made the film quite repetitive to me, the fact that the jokes are almost entirely sexual or related to sex. Nonetheless, the plot is quite nice and cohesive. Felix, the main character, lives a "miserable" life and is just noticed when people want to bully him. This changes when he receives a gift, The Midas Touch, that is not related to gold, but with attracting women. I liked the change in Felix's life and personality, it's well done. The film doesn't take itself seriously and feels like a parody sometimes, what improves the comedy. It also has lines in which the characters act as if they knew they were characters. I liked these breaks and how Tilman Borck got some references from classic films to build the narrative, it was a humble and good act. Moreover, the main plot is predictable but the subplots are not so the film keeps interesting as we don't really know what's going to happen. The acting is good overall and I highlight Gino Wilson (Felix) and Clayton Nemrow (Ron). They are great here and their rivalry on screen is on point. About the technical aspects, they are good. I praise Tilman Borck for acting, writing and directing The Midas Touch (2020). I can only imagine how difficult it is to do so many things and he did a good job, I didn't like it that much but it's a watchable film.

Not likeable, not fun.

I don't know what to make.of rhis movie, I found myself wondering how it could escape the editing room in its current form. It feels unpolished and much too long. It is like watching somerhing that high-school students would put together for fun, where they don't care if the joke is only funny for them. I think you would be better off spending time on something else.

On your mark, get set, terrible!
comblitz22 September 2022
This movie was done very poorly. It had no value, not even as a fun to watch terrible movie. I feel like they had a casting call at an international convention of bad actors. The antagonists reminded me of mean Mr. Mustard from the Sergeant Pepper movie.

NOW for the big issue. The ratings don't make sense. Click on the rating to see the breakdown. It's around 3.8 or so, yet when it is averaged, they display 6.4. So something is definitely wrong with the algorithm of showing the rating of this terrible film.

WHAT was good about it? It is so hard to find something good but if I had to say something, the Benny Hill type of chasing in the park was kind of funny but only because it reminded me of Benny Hill.

Not as clever as it thinks
LLgoatJ4 February 2021
I think I watched a different film to everyone else. It tried to be clever funny and different but ended up a mess. There was no introduction to what was going on. It didn't seem that well acted. It made no sense. It was barely possible to follow. It felt like the result of a university project to get an artificial intelligence computer to recreate a British 60s sex comedy. I would avoid this. It is unwatchable.

refreshingly light and fun

I was in the mood for something that would be fun to watch in the midst of a pretty dark time and relieved to find a fun, light hearted movie. I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to someone else looking for a great ride!

Did everyone see a different film?

This might have been acceptable when Benny Hill was popular, but nowadays it's borderline offensive. I have no idea how it's got the rating it has. I love a low budget indie as much as anyone but this is just rubbish!

Hilarious to the end.

I couldn't help but fall out laughing at this movie as they put their characters into these ridiculous hilarious situations. Getting a chance to live most men's fantasy, our protagonist finds how too much of a good thing can go horribly wrong, and he gets put into situations he instantly regrets and we instantly love. I think it's worth pointing out that the theme of the movie is sex so there is a lot of it, but it is not gratuitous as it plays into the plot of the story so there is a purpose. Overall, it's a quirky comedy that is unapologetic and extremely hilarious.

You probably haven't seen anything quite like this one....

Flicks like this are the reason I enjoy indie films. No mainstream film company would ever do this in a million (billion?) years, and that's why it's so much fun! The film is written with a totally unheard of perspective, that's for sure. Far too few comedies get so many crazy subjects addressed in a single film, but this one does. The main conceit is that a man who is best described as woman repellent all of a sudden has the power to get the unflinching attention of any woman have likes. For someone who was once invisible to the ladies to now be a reluctant Lothario is good adult fun. On the plus side, it's totally original, with a voice that leans toward eccentric European humor. On the opposite end, the first scenes seem mostly unneeded and a film editor who is experienced with comedy would have made an enormous difference in helping many of the jokes land better. That means this film may not be for everyone, but it still earns points for originality. And finally, there were more than a few LOLs in this movie, and when a comedy manages to make me giggle, I always feel I got my money's worth.

Wow! A great time!
sowden_jd6 October 2022
I have to say that I really enjoyed this film. It doesn't take itself too seriously and I appreciate that. There are Some real gut punch laughter moments. And all in all the humor really landed And by far my favorite part was the acting and the cinematography! Some of the light setups and shots were gorgeous. Especially the scenes in the bars. For a film as fun as this one, the cinematography was incredible in my opinion. The actors all came to play and you can tell they really enjoyed being apart of and in this film. That shows clearly through their performances. V Bravo to the cast and crew. If you are looking for a fun weekend watch, this is it!

Campy British comedy!
lbarker085 August 2022
Really campy British movie that's a lot of fun to watch! It doesn't take itself too seriously which is why it works. Great work on the acting, costumes, and production design in a lot of cool locations. Watch this if you're looking for something fun!

Gothic Comedy Farce
catheraneskillen17 April 2023
THE MIDAS TOUCH is creative, unusual and an original. The main story surrounds Felix Blythe, an unfulfilled loser who has no luck with women and can't seem to break out of his rut. Being irresistible to women is perhaps a secret desire of many men. Well, you know what they say, "beware what you wish for." Wishes that come true may have unintended consequences. There are many good actors in this large cast and Gino Wilson is excellent as Felix Blythe. The look of the film is well thought out. All the pieces come together well with the sets, wardrobe, coloring and cinematography, and, as a bonus, there's a moral to the story.

There aren't really words to describe this trip of a movie! Tongue and cheek on sex, politics and religion, this film is crude but insightful. Maybe not for everyone, but definitely worthy of being seen!

Crazy good fun
bartlettdirect29 December 2020
Not for all age groups, but I had crazy good fun watching this over-the-top, no-holds-barred absurdist slice of an an indie film that obviously took its cues from Monty Python and maybe even some early slapstick. If you're looking for something to blow your mind, give this one a shot.

A classic be careful what you wish for which borders on parody.
RBIves-202-72535223 January 2023
Dark and funny wish fulfillment piece that could teach us all a lesson or two. Who hasn't had the dream of making our desires as accessible with a single touch? Well the grass isn't always greener on the other side, although you may need a closer look just to be sure.

Great cinematography, music, and acting are all on display here. There are also a wider range of locations and cast than you typically might find on an indie film of this scale which adds to production value.

There are some great laughs and sticky situations to explore along the way. But as irreverent as this film may seem at first, it has a warm heart beating deep inside.

Definitely a movie to recommend!
laproduccion17 October 2022
A very entertaining comedy with a very original sense of humor.

The combination of characters is very interesting and manages to catch the viewer from start to finish, the performances are very well landed. This movie is unlike anything I've seen before, which was a big surprise.

It's very easy to make the audience cry or feel sad, but the real challenge is to make them laugh, and this movie does it very well. And I repeat, in a very original way. Cinema has many faces and I am glad to see films like The Midas Touch, because it is a very unique and risky proposal but at the end of the day very well achieved and faithful to its style, with a story that has a lot to offer.

Definitely a movie to recommend!

Very Entertaining Movie!!!!
mariobrothersshroomery26 February 2022
I was very surprised by how good this movie is. The story is bonkers-weird. The comedy is spot on with timing, surprises, satire, aided in part by an excellent cast and cinematography. I started watching and found myself being sucked into this ridiculous and familiar world through the characters, situations, and direction.

I watched it with a friend of mine who doesn't see many indie films. We we're laughing out loud throughout the second half getting excited pointing things out, sharing thoughts about the movie! To be honest I wasn't expecting much from this going in and my expectations were blown away. I highly recommend this comedy in fact I would buy a physical copy on Blu-ray if it were available.

A Hilarious Camp-Erotic Romp
nathan-307156 December 2022
TIlman Borck's "The Midas Touch" evokes all of our favourite vintage 70s silver screen farces from Monty Python to Mel Brooks to early Woody Allen. Borck himself, playing a Mephistophelian self-help guru leads a cast of comic actors who cheerfully commit to the high jinks and horrors. They are the perfect foil for Felix, played by Gino Wilson, as the movie's straight man: a young sexually frustrated bachelor who discovers a secret that, to him, is more valuable than all the gold in the world. However, too much of a good thing takes our young man on a character arc worthy of Euripides, and, as a plague of dirty politicians, greedy ad-men and creepy religious cultists seek him out, he has to engineer an escape before he loses his sanity, and his soul. This movie is a true labour of love from Tilman Borck - who wrote, directed, composed, and co-edited the film. If you like titillating, campy comedy-horror movies - this one's for you.

Delightful, clever, well done funny "wish fulfillment" indie movie.
vincentjroth22 February 2021
Campy entertaining fun. Great cinematography, elaborate sets and beautiful settings. Well done indie movie with high production value. A twist on the classic wish fulfillment fantasy - the unappreciated underdog who always gets dumped on by slimy unsavories gets his "rags to riches" moment. Chock full of comedic sexual tropes and over the top scenarios, complete with a timeless life lesson.

Good and funny movie - well worth the watch! Depending on what your expectations are, it's not a high budget but these low budgets are better for me I like what these filmmakers do with less money.

This movie has a lot of unexpected comedy and commentary on office culture, as well as society in general. Original, off-beat, and very funny. You won't see anything like it!

Twisted gold is modern culture
BigHarvey26 April 2021
Young advertiser, Felix, is down on his luck and made fun of by his boss and the women in his life. Then he acquires "a Midas touch" and with that gift, you know things are going to go wrong. The twisted gold here is modern culture and many humorous hi-jinks involving sex, politics, and religion in this irreverent and raunchy take on a classic theme.

Russ Meyers eat your heart out!
mrdigital1317 February 2021
Raunchy sex comedies are few and far between, especially when they allude to sex and comedy, but The Midas Touch touches all points (pun intended). Reminiscent of the old Russ Meyers sex farces of the 1970s, there are some truly steamy scenes with some fun moments throughout. Take a trip with a loser when he goes from the driest sexual existence to wanton to overstimulation and desensitization, a theme very prominent in our society today.

Careful what you wish for!
mdr139350322 February 2021
Not a lot of contemporary British sex comedies in the indie film world lately, so I was delighted to discover this gem. Despite its indie budget, it delivers - I lost count of how many times I found myself laughing out loud. The "blessing is really a curse" theme has been done for sure, but the performances are solid and the premise is intriguing ... I'm sure a lot of people can identify with the fantasy of being irresistible. The arc on the Felix character is well-crafted.

*some light nudity, so not for the kiddies
