What a refreshing pilot to introduce me to the world of Jan the Virgin. I was suprised at first seeing it had a running time of 49 min but I soon found out. I came into this series late and it has always been suggested under comedies. I'm afraid that's s rsther misrepresentation. Its s comedy, definitely! But it's also a comedy with drama and twists you dont ecpect and kind of like a parody to a telenova.
First notice that I immediately loved, the way characters are described by writing on the screen. It's funny and witty. Second was it's not heavy on subtitles so dont let those reviews discourse you. I see a lot of twists from a mile away but missed one obvious one in hindsight her father. Michael I'm aware of his agenda. I think for a series in this format though people will be shocked.
I found rafeals character the most redeemable and THE GOOD GUY where as Michael may be the BAD GUY. It wasnt my intelligence it was the great subtle clues they placed in there to reward the viewer later on.
HIGHIGHT OF EPISODE: Jane seeing Rafael for the first time by the pool ad shed dressed ad a mermaid serving alchohol. He walks towards her and she dives into the pool and swims away with her tail flapping. Comic gold!
VILLIAN: Rafaels wife that wants his money and his bestfriend that isnt so loyal.
What's best this whole confusion and mix up was all because the manipulative wife set up an appointment to have her husbands sperm inseminated but the doctor was so profoundly struck by deep emotional feelings she walked into the wrong room ENTER jane (literally and figuratively).
Its 100% entertainment and hooks you from the start with intrigue and comedy that knows how to make people of all kinds laugh.
Jane was given a flower as a kid by her grandmother and explained the important that once she broke it she could never go back!
