The shooting never ends, literally.
quincytheodore10 April 2015
Audiences should be aware that The Marine 4 is the epitome of B-movie, it has a simple premise and is designed to entertain with least amount of effort. To its credit, the movie does serve that purpose. It offers lots of shooting spree as well as decently choreography melee combat, even though some of its logic are admittedly flawed and the protagonists wear magical plot armors.

Jake Carter (Mike Mizanin or The Miz) is starting a new job as a security guard for high value target, a whistle-blower by the name of Olivia Tanis (Melissa Roxburgh). Soon he realizes that the implication Olivia could do is far reaching, and he must do his best to keep her safe. Acting from The Miz is surprisingly good. He's a pretty suitable lead, creating the disheartened veteran persona well. This is better than most exaggerated roles of action genre, although he does look a bit confused at times.

Matthew MacCaull as the antagonist is above the rest. He presents a conniving personality that presentably irritating. Melissa Roxburgh as the female lead however, is distinctly bad. Her character is supposed to be a brash woman with brave attitude, but it turns out to be an annoying and highly unsympathetic bickering damsel. The rest of cast is your typical mercenaries. Summer Rae makes an appearance as well, while she has so few lines, she does look the part of fit femme fatale.

Plot and action are severely unrealistic. People are shooting for half of the movie, it's not even a hyperbole. Scenes are basically Jake and random mercs spraying bullets at each other, without the need of reloading and unsurprisingly Jake has far better accuracy. The fisticuffs are marginally better as the fights are choreographed with good impact.

The Marine 4 is, as expected, ninety minutes of mindless shooting and punching, nothing more. It's not Bourne, but it will do for mindless fun.

WWE makes another lame movie
sesmith7021 April 2015
Once again, WWE proves that they have no skills with movies. Mike "The Miz" Mizanin is predictable in another movie with high energy and low talent. We have all seen the "acting" these wrestlers do on TV, so now we are supposed to sit thru an entire movie of bad acting, horrible reactions, and dialog that falls flat. Summer Rae has looks, and that is all. The DVD cover is almost identical to the GI Joe films (even using the tag line "There is no greater force than an all American hero", which is very similar to "A real American Hero") I will not give spoilers, because you will predict how it will go 5 minutes into it. So what will be next? Marine 5 starring Torito? Marine 6 with Fandango? WWE should give up movies, and the lame "storylines" on their Raw and Smackdown shows. This movie is only good if you need something to stabilize your wobbly coffee table. The box is just right for that. And the DVD can be put on wall (shiney side out) as a small mirror, so you can see the fool who bought this DVD.

By the numbers actioner

Over-muscled one man army. Check. Escorting witness to testify. Check. Betrayal by an insider for illogical reasons. Check. Pretty but annoying airhead female witness whose actions make life harder on the one man army protecting her. Check. Special forces bad guys who learned marksmanship from Imperial Stormtroopers. Check. Good guy wins, bad guys die. Check.

Four stars for something to watch.

What, no reloading?
williamrehovot11 April 2015
OK, granted I love shoot em up movies for the mindless entertainment on rainy days curled up with popcorn and no expectations for great performances. But this is a waste of talent and nothing more than proving script writers without talent can ruin an actor's career.. The Miz, a better actor than this movie deserves, struggles with the poor plot and Summer, well I am not sure why she is even in this movie other than to mumble a few lines. I would have refused the role as it is a career buster and not career enhancer. She could have had a real role other than jumping into and out of scenes cocking a gun. I am a WWE fan and have seen what good movie scripts and talented wrestlers can do together. This is not one of them. Sorry, no spoiler as the movie is so predictable and lame, it gives itself away. I hope Miz and Summer ( I am a huge fan of both ) find better movie opportunities despite their contract obligations to appear in such trash.

Should Be: The Marine 4: Out Of Ideas
nebk16 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The Marine 4 is a by the numbers and straight to DVD action flick starring some Wrestling stars and a relatively unknown rest of the cast. It concerns an ex-Marine called Jake Carter (Mike Mizanin) who has become a bodyguard. On his first assignment his team is tasked with protecting a young whistleblower called Olivia (Melissa Roxburgh) who has information regarding corruption in the defense industry. Predictably there is a squad of mercenary assassins who are trying to kill her or capture her. Even more predictable is the fact that the mercenaries eliminate everyone other than Jake Carter and the whistleblower he is protecting. Of course there is a traitor in the group who has betrayed them. No shocker there.

From the first attack the movie becomes a non-stop bullet fest with a lot of shooting and no reloading. The script is unimaginative and the dialogue bad. The acting is cringe worthy at times and there are action scenes which seem borrowed from other action movies like The Terminator (attack on the police station by the mercenaries), and First Blood (chase through the woods, with a lot of deadly traps set by the hero).

Overall The Marine 4 is a mediocre movie with implausible scenes and no character development. Some of the characters are annoying and their actions and behavior makes no sense, like Olivia knocking out Jake even though he saved her life but she still doesn't know whether to trust him or not. Another annoying thing is that in a course of one night, the hero manages to set so many traps in the forest where they are making their stand that the film looses any believability, not that it had that much to begin with. The fact that the villains in the film seem uncertain as to whether they want to capture or eliminate their target is also annoying. If they want her captured they shouldn't be shooting thousands of rounds at her. If they want to eliminate her, why do they loose the ability to shoot when they are in range of her.

Overall a lame effort and a waste of time. 3/10

Kinda fun and action packed, but nothing groundbreaking or really interesting.
notgivens13 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I can't tell you how many movies have made me scream into the screen, "Pick up the damned gun that guy dropped you idiot" and watch the foolish person continue on with a handgun which is probably almost empty. This time I didn't have to yell that, because our stars were smart enough to grab nearly every gun that fell.

Bad guys dropped like flies, as one would expect when fighting against our hero, however it seemed that in the final stages that twice as many men were killed as were even involved in the endeavor.

Mildly believable, bloody and violent, but not really "a keeper". Fun enough if you're drinking with your buddies, no *obviously* stupid moves and gladly, they didn't pull the standard "cuz she's a girl" tragic mistake that nearly all action films employ.

Another unnecessary sequel, but one that is at least watchable. I have seen, and expected, much worse.
cosmo_tiger21 April 2015
"Do you trust me now?" Jake Carter (Mizanin) is a marine who is charged with protecting Olilvia Tanis (Roxburgh), a high profile whistle blower who has numerous death threats against her. When someone in Jake's organization is revealed to be a traitor he has to not only fight off the traitor but also keep Olivia safe so she can testify. This is a movie that is pretty much what you expect. An hour and a half of stuff blowing up and violence with a little plot. The main problem with these movies is that there is really no suspense. When you get to the fourth movie in a series you pretty much can predict how it will go from the beginning. This is no exception. On the other hand though, I have seen much worse direct to DVD sequels and this one was at least entertaining enough to keep me awake. Overall, another unnecessary sequel, but one that is at least watchable. I have seen, and expected, much worse. I give this a B-.

Not bad for a direct to video film
soumit-nath10 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
If you are not looking for much logic or depth then you can surely enjoy this film as a nice action entertainer. This time the production value and budget was a bit higher than its previous installment which was a good thing. The film had lot of action right from the word go (at times it felt a bit too much) and continues till the end where everybody is just shooting at each other with some nicely choreographed hand to hand combat as well. Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin returns as Sgt. Jake Carter in the fourth installment of the franchise and becomes the first WWE wrestler to work in two films of the franchise. I have always enjoyed all the films in The Marine franchise as all of them takes away your boredom for little over an hour. It may be a million miles away from a good franchise but it's not a pathetic one for sure. The story this time shows Jake Carter working in a security agency which is protecting a witness who has proof against a defense corporation's evil agenda, soon Carter finds himself in a bloody war against ex-special forces turned mercenaries who are hell bound to kill the witness. William Kaufman who had directed films like Sinners and Saints does a pretty good job as the director. Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin may not be the best wrestler/actor around but he sure is better than few for sure and I loved his character in both the films. The film also had WWE diva Summer Rae who had almost no duologue's in the film neither a impressive character, all she did was shooting. Melissa Roxburgh and Matthew MacCaull as supporting characters gave a typical direct-to- video performance. But overall like I said at the beginning if you are not looking for some serious stuff then you can definitely enjoy this film.

Terminator Style Action
jpw-5551310 August 2019
Forget the original movie The Marine. This movie provides a lot of action in the style of The Terminator. Sure, it will not win an Oscar but the plot is somewhat believable and the acting is good. I found it to be very entertaining.

About 1hr 20mins too long ...
Hexecutioner23 December 2016
A great gift for someone ... if you really dislike that person.

The acting is atrocious. The producers and directors should be shot on sight. Your average 5-year-old would make a better movie in a day using a 2MP camera phone.

You're better off watching a blank screen or even paint dry to be honest. In fact, you may find yourself suicidal 30mins into this movie. It's not even suitable for background noise for the sake of background noise.

Probably the worst movie made this side of the century

Makes a perfect birthdays gift for that nasty mother-in-law or a cheating ex or a nuisance neighbor.

Rat-A-Tat-Tat; Watch Their Blood Splat!
zardoz-1328 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
"One in the Chamber" director William Kaufman's bullet-riddled actioneer "Marine 4: Moving Target" ranks as an above-average, old-fashioned shoot'em up about an ex-Marine who must protect a Department of Justice witness from dastardly villains. Clocking in at 85 minutes with minimal back-story, this R-rated action thriller is nimble and no-nonsensical from fade in to fade out. On his first day on the job with a civilian company of hired guns, Jack Carter (Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin of "Marine 3") has his hands full with a cynical dame, Olivia Tanis (Melissa Roxburgh of "Leprechaun: Origins"), who has the goods on a corrupt defense contractor named Genesis that sold defective bulletproof vests to the Marine Corps. Olivia doesn't trust anybody and for good reason after we learn that the team dispatched to safeguard her is dirty. Predictably, Olivia hates Jack, and they have a lively exchange of dialogue in the SUV before all Hell breaks loose and a trigger-happy shooter, Andrew Vogel (the skull-faced Josh Blacker of "Elysium") and his army of mercenaries take out everybody else except the traitor. Vogel and company show no qualms; they wipe out an entire police station in a small town in a hail of gunfire to eliminate Jack and Olivia. Eventually, when Olivia has a golden opportunity to flee from Jack on his instructions, she changes her mind about the jarhead and saves his bacon moments after Vogel's gunmen massacre everybody in the police station with extreme prejudice. The hot pursuit manhunt plunges our heroes and their adversaries into the woods and turns into a "First Blood" game of survival. Our hero contrives surprising bloody booby traps for the expendable villains. Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin makes a solid, sturdy hero. Blacker makes a suitably sinister opponent. Scenarist Alan B. McElroy offers some memorable but histrionic dialogue. "You either behind the gun or in front of it," Vogel says at one point. Furthermore, our brawny hero believes in battlefield salvage as he picks up his adversaries' weapons after he empties his own gun. Of course, the villains are near-miss marksmen when it comes to nailing the principals. As B-movies go, "Marine 4: Moving Target" delivers formulaic, standard-issue violence with a high body count but no nudity. Kaufman helms these far-fetched shenanigans with a nimble hand and the hand-to-hand combat scenes are gripping affairs.

Action, Action and more Action
Blumanowar2 December 2019
If your not in the mood for a Drama and just want to kick back and watch a simple action fil then this is your flick. B movie, low budget but I watched it as I was going to sleep.. I didn't want to have to think and just sat back and enjoy the suspense and fun battles which do not stop. The good guy(s) protecting a beautiful Brunette w/ Blue eyed young woman and they're intent on n getting her for being a whistleblower. Eye candy, lol. This is a guys flick, few ladies will enjoy it. No back story at all lol, just good old fashioned shoot em up low budget film. If you turn it on to watch with your girlfriend or wife.. she's gonna bail on you in less than 2 minutes. Again, it's a fun watch if your in a mindless, sleepy mode and are to tired to delve into a 'real movie' then this is your show. I thought it was fun enough to rate it a 7 to offset the haters and thought enough of it to comment on it after watching it as I fell asleep last night. There are so many crappy B movies that aren't worth watching.. the names Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris and David Spade come to mind. But there's nobody you've ever seen before here and it's some simple good late night fun to keep you awake as your eyes are fading to sleep. If that's ok then give it a shot, but don't watch it as your main event if the evening, then get mad and send a silly hate review afterward. If you can't figure out before you watch it, that it's a B movie non stop action, shooting and campy type flick then you must not have checked out before you watched it😊

Another low-cost forest hunt
bm-892741 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Plot is simple: shoot em all. In a forest.

You are going to watch an airsoft game, where nobody can properly shoot rifle from ten meters but is a perfect sniper from long distance with a handgun. You will watch a hysterical biatch that is claiming having high IQ but acts like a complete idiot at everything she is doing.

Wearing armor vests without armor inside is just lame. At least insert some wooden plates for let the vest stops repeating fatty actors bodies.

Oh, and the bad guys always want to shoot good guys both dead, but as long as bad guys ambush and meet them from behind - asking to drop the gun (of course fist fight begins, of course bad guys losing).

The movie is so predictable and foreseeable that you won't expect that absolutely blunt and abrupt ending of the movie.

Oh, you just watched the whole movie in my review.

250,000 bullets fired and they didn't hit anything
jeffcat-4067918 August 2021
Well, a lot of office furniture was destroyed. Another unimaginative action movie where highly trained mercenaries can't hit the broad side of a barn with their high capacity shooting sticks. Take these folks to the firing range for some training. In the meantime, the original plot and stunning dialog will not challenge you at all, so relax, there's no thinking required here. This movie was made for those who are satisfied with every standard action movie cliche.

Doesn't Hold water
torstensonjohn12 June 2019
The 4th installment of the WWE franchise film series "The Marine" finds Mike Mizanin once again at the helm as Jake Carter. Newly assigned to a private security detail for a HVP (High Value Package), he finds himself immersed in a betrayal, combatant victim and endlessly hunted throughout the film. Let's be realistic with the film shall we. The acting is dismal, the storyline is an abortion of overloaded material in many film before, the dialogue is simplistic and holds no attention. The action sequences are abysmal, the editing and cinematography are mashed together. The character development is pointless and the audience will find themselves going "what the hell" a lot in this film. Summer Rae had literally no dialogue, maybe 20 words at most, and the highlight was actually Melissa Roxbourgh.

A multi billion dollar company such as WWE sure as hell could afford better development in a film and better actors.

Predictable and boring sequel
Wizard-823 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
After watching this fourth entry, I really feel that WWE Studios ought to call it a day with this series. To start off with, the plot of the movie is extremely familiar, concerning itself with the old story of a dedicated protector on the run with a female witness, and the two don't like each other at first... yawn. I know, I know - the plot doesn't really matter with movies like this. Other elements, like the actors and the action are what matter. Well, while I wouldn't call Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin a bad actor, his reading of lines comes across as really bland and mediocre for the most part, as if he wasn't very enthusiastic to be in this production. As for the action, I will admit that the hand-to-hand combat sequences are pretty well done, expertly choreographed and energetically directed and edited. Unfortunately, the hand-to-hand combat only happens a few times. Most of the action consists of one endless shooting sequence after another, which becomes boring and monotonous really fast thanks to their uninspired direction and editing. Apart from the hand-to-hand combat sequences, the only other decent thing about the movie is its look - it's fairly well photographed on picturesque locations in British Columbia.

It Offends Marines And Military In General ....
As an U.S. NAVY Sailor I shouldn't like Jar-heads (Stupid military tradition) but this movie is definitely an insult to Marines an all military in general. The poor acting can be questionable even by anyone who's never been in the military. Watching the first minutes of the movie let you see how predictable is going to be, and you wont be disappointed on that appreciation as you expect to be surprise thru the rest of the movie and it just keep getting more and more predictable. Hand-to-hand fights seen so fake that no even the drunkest highly trained marine would ever act like that. Mercenaries would even complained about this movie as they see how the ones in the movie hit the ground and trees 99% of the time while shooting. It just reminded me of the "The A-Team" TV Series. Any ex-military with no acting experience would have given this movie a way better "feeling."

Action Packed-Non-stop!!
nicolas-232-8286878 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Story/Plot: Shallow Acting: So-so CGI: So-so Action: BOOOOOOOOOM

If you're looking at non-stop action, this movie is for you. This is a direct sequel from Marine 3 where Mike "The Miz" Mizanin reprises his role as Jake Carter, former marine now working as a private security. He was tasked to protect a whistle blower (Tanis) played by Melissa Roxburg.

Fast pace action starts from the ambush (while Carter and company are on their way to the safe house) and ends when no more villains breath. That's an understatement!

Real guns in assorted flavors flood the action scenes. There's just no stopping the body count.Summer Rae plays the role of Rachelle Dawes, the mercenaries' resident sniper and oh boy she's hot on that role.

The Marine 4 is for you if you like fast paced action sequences.. Don't look for a deep story line though. You won't find it in here. But hey.. this was produced by WWE what do you expect..?:-) I say, try it..

A half-baked rehash of Eraser with decent fight scenes
ginocox-206-33696826 April 2015
"The Marine 4: Moving Target" succeeds as mindless entertainment. It is related only thematically to "The Marine" (2006), sharing only the basic common elements: a highly capable and decorated former marine attempting to adjust to civilian life, a damsel in distress and a group of ruthless villains with enough firepower to invade the Falklands.

It was produced on a tenth of the budget of the original and its limitations are obvious. The fight choreography is solid, although not of the caliber seen in "Furious 7" or "The Raid." Car chases are fairly lame, on the level of television dramas. The script is an embarrassment, particularly compared to the clever plots developed for the "12 Rounds" movies. Dialogue is hackneyed. Character development is essentially nonexistent. The plot is a rehash of "Eraser" without the locations, character backgrounds, special effects and (thankfully) without that ridiculous portable rail gun.

Given that they haven't anything particularly interesting to say, the actors do a credible job. Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin is believable evincing the virtues of the Marine Corps while feeling awkward in civilian life and uncertain of how to act without clear orders. Josh Blacker is convincing as the relentless, remorseless adversary. They are both adept in the fight scenes. Melissa Roxburgh is not the most gifted thespian to grace a WWE production, but is believable when she stands around looking gorgeous and slightly vulnerable. However, she wears too many clothes throughout. A little more skin would have made her seem more vulnerable and boosted the sexual tension. MacCaull and Moinet do as well as can be expected with what they're given.

The producers might have gotten more bang for their limited bucks by investing more in script development to make the characters more complex, interesting and sympathetic. As a mindless vicarious adrenalin fix, the fight scenes are satisfying and occur with sufficient frequency to compensate for the disappointing car chases and gun battles.

HONOR, INTEGRITY, RESPONSIBILITY
nogodnomasters26 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens with a series of Marine phrases and history which comes quickly across the screen. The longer ones require a pause button to fully read, at least for me. Sgt. Carter (Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin) is now a civilian working for Hawthorne Global Security. It is his first day on the job, as he has a few days worth of growth on his face. His job is to protect (along with a bunch of co-workers) Olivia Tanis (Melissa Roxburgh) a smart talking 24 year old who has information to take down Genesis, who manufactured substandard military hardware. (This must be the military items we never check to ensure they are made to specifications.) Global is subcontracted to the Department of Justice.

The action starts out early and continues through the film. There is some attempt at "First Blood" type of scenes that could have been better developed to make the film more interesting. Tanis, who initially loathes her protectors, especially Carter, quickly must rely on Carter for survival.

The film suffered from the same problems as previous films. The Miz can't act. The plot is straight, improbable, and mindless. The dialogue is dry. On the plus side the creation of the character Olivia Tanis provided the needed internal drama and conflict as she becomes the wild card in the film that is otherwise void of mystery and surprises. Danielle Moinet, the blond on the cover has a minor role and few lines. For some reason, late in the film, she does take off her vest so we can see her in a tank top.

Good mindless action film for those who can't get enough of Steve Austin type acting.

Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity. Excessive gun fire and some knife fights. Minimal blood.

Story & Dialog are impressive.Music, special effects, location, acting are most happy done.fights are choreographed with perfect. But reloading forget.car chasing are look like childish. Finally enough for video film.We waiting for another sequel from William Kaufman.

I can't lie, I LOVED IT!!!
lewiemay-1234418 January 2019
At first I was only watching it because I love Melissa Roxburgh but I came out loving it. I think it's action packed, well acted and directed well. I think the two main characters were great in writing and acting. Many people may think that choices made by characters were annoying but in a way I just think it is realistic, if you are being shot at then you might be a little more weary of the people around you. However some of the editing choices really bugged me as it was very flashy and jumpy and didn't need to be, that put aside I would give it a chance!

B-movie goodness
allmoviesfan12 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
You get what you expect from the fourth film in the WWE Studios' 'Marine' franchise - and the second that stars Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin as the titular returned serviceman - and that is a lot of action and very little plot. Which is fine, because no one is watching one of these flicks for anything other than watching a good guy cut a swathe through a lot of bad guys,

And there are a LOT of bad guys to be dispatched in 'The Marine 4: Moving Target'.

No worries for Jake Carter (Mizanin) who is working in private security and assigned to escort a defense contractor whistleblower so she can turn over the incriminating evidence. All good until there is an ambush, and after that...well, you know what happens next.

There is so much shooting in this movie, yet no one seems to hit anyone else and there isn't a whole lot of reloading, either. Almost wall-to-wall action, lots of blood, and a pretty satisfying ending.

Fun, B-movie stuff with a mountain town setting that made me think of 'First Blood'.
