Trouble in Shelter Hills
wes-connors14 July 2014
In the opening scene, an attractive blonde is pursued and killed by a camera-shy assailant. We quickly learn this occurs in the desolate woods of a small town called Shelter Hills. Coincidently, another pretty blonde arrives in town, from Michigan, pulled over by cute officer Jeremy Guilbaut (as Grady Williams). Intending to start a new life, former alcohol abuser Annie Heise (as Sandy Cooper) maimed a lad while drunk-driving and was deprived of her family fortune in a resulting lawsuit. However, she has accepted responsibility and wants to stay off the sauce. A paralegal, Ms. Heise gets a job courtesy of her old school-mate Kendra Anderson (as Karen), who also took to Shelter Hills. Her tall, dark and handsome husband Antonio Cupo (as David Waterford) is running for county supervisor. This is strictly production-line TV movie story-telling, from director Terry Ingram and the crew. What's "Good" is that is concludes in under 85 minutes. Heise doesn't qualify as a "Mistress" and the fact that a character chooses to date her in the town's most public places – including the local coffee shop and bar – is ludicrous.

**** The Good Mistress (2/15/14) Terry Ingram ~ Annie Heise, Antonio Cupo, Kendra Anderson, Jeremy Guilbaut

the usual and then a Hail Mary pass
blanche-216 April 2016
We all know Lifetime. For some of us it's like watching The Comedy Channel.

The formula is always the same: young, attractive people you've never seen before in one of the two or three plots Lifetime uses.

This one, The Good Mistress from 2014 is one of the pack. Sandy Cooper (Anne Heise), a recovering alcoholic on five years probation, who has a beautiful figure and beautiful hair, moves to a small town and takes a job at her best friend's (Kendra Anderson) law firm. She meets a guy (Antonio Cupo) right away and sleeps with him on the first date (if you don't count him running into her at the coffee place a date).

Just one small problem, which she finds out later. Her best friend is married to him. It gets worse.

Okay. First of all, why she would take an apartment with that sleaze landlord is beyond me. Second, she meets her best friend's husband who asks her out on a date? Sing one verse of "Small World, Isn't It." And of course there is the ubiquitous parking garage scene. We all know how women like to go into them alone.

At the last minute something elevates this film from a D to a C-. And for Lifetime, that's not bad.

unexpected ending not enough to save this movie
alannasser20 February 2014
This is an utterly undistinguished Lifetime movie, the same one you've seen many many times if you watch Lifetime. The actors are uninteresting, the direction is pedestrian and the writing is bland and amateurish. This movie could be the template from which all Lifetime movies are made. The relatively high rating is almost certainly due to one or both of two things: either some reviewers were associated with the production, and/or some were impressed with the twist which was truly unexpected. The question is: was the movie good enough to make the twist worth watching the film? I say NO. You will find the film tedious in the extreme, you will not expect the ending, and you will still regret having watched this howler.

The things you find on television at 3 in the morning...
Sherazade11 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This was pitiful. A suspense thriller riddled with bad acting, bad script, unbelievable scenarios and an over-the-top climax. Sandy, a woman haunted by her tragic past and lingering demons moves to a new town where she runs into and old friend who helps her get back on her feet by finding her a job and a good place to stay. She (Sandy) meets a mysterious man with whom she has a brief but intense relationship and soon after finds out that this man is actually her friend Karen's husband. Things in town begin to go awry when another woman linked to Karen's husband turns up dead and Sandy begins to suspect that her ex-lover might be a serial killer. The film's only saving grace is its attractive cast and maybe the fact that it was a made-for-television fête which hopefully kept the budget low.

Geeky Randy's summary
Geeky Randy2 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
While coping with the events following a car accident caused by her, recovering alcoholic Heise moves to Shelter Hills to rekindle with longtime friend Anderson, who has offered her a position at a firm. Things appears to be patching up nicely, especially when she meets dreamboat Cupo at the grocery store parking lot. Not only does he turn out to be a candidate in the county elections, he is also turns her friend's husband… oh, yeah, and a suspect in a murder investigation. Does a pretty decent job with the twists and turns, and the acting is better than most Lifetime Movies. Like of lot of these types, there is an overload on characters for the mere purpose of having lots suspects, a crutch to distract us from piecing things together too easily. Definitely worth the watch if you are completely bored or have a taste for cheap TV-movies.

Pretty Good on Point
seadolfin12 July 2018
I agree the storyline is much over done, movies with similar story lines but these movies would not be successful ifs its not hitting home base, truth is this happens so often in reality and i'm sure alot of times women wish they could be like Karen. I thought the acting was pretty good, kept me at my screen not wondering off to the fridge like i usually do.

Above average Lifetime movie
tomfsloan8 September 2018
For a Lifetime movie, this was pretty good. The main reason is that hardly any scenes went by where I got mad at how stupid something was. The plot was decent and the acting was decent. Anne Heise was very good. In most movies, when someone gets clobbered they get up again with no harm done. That happens often. In this movie it only happened once. Amazing!

Not A Mistress- Good Mistress ***1/2
edwagreen20 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Plenty of excitement here with a totally shocking unexpected ending. You will be amazed here when you discover who commits the murders. Just goes to show you that all wayward people in their marriages can't be necessarily suspected when foul play occurs.

A young lady in college loses her parents while talking to them on the phone via an auto accident. This sets her in a downward spiral and she receives probation for driving drunk and hitting a youngster, not fatally, while he was on a bicycle. She reunites with an old friend and moves to the latter's town.

Before she can meet the friend's husband, go know that he would turn up in a local supermarket looking for action. He comes on nicely but when he finds out who she is after their one-night stand, he threatens reprisal.

With the murders and mayhem occurring, everything points to the guy, an aspiring politician as the culprit, but as I stated, we were in for quite a surprise.

Well-done, interesting story.

Don't waste your time
decemberangel128616 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This movie totally sucked and there was no plot. there was a bad acting job. where did they come up with the storyline? the storyline was totally awful, and the wife committed all the crimes? Who would believe that? and who would make the husband the fall guy for all of the problems? That is just totally awful. To make everyone believe that you didn't know anything and that you act like nothing is wrong when in reality you know about your own husband's affairs. No wife would ever do anything terrible such as this. Save your time and don't watch this movie, this is a bunch of crap. This movie should not even be put on DVD, and if you thought safe haven was so bad this is worse than Safe Haven. this so cliché, the same storyline over and over? oh get a new theme people, like the wife don't know anything? get a new storyline people.

One more LMN loser
geoffox-766-4184672 January 2016
With no thanks to the leading lady Annie Heise, not to be confused with Anne Hesch also a bad actress. This one is as boring and uninteresting to watch as the other one. From the beginning to the surprise ending she sort of wandered from set to set and obviously attempting to frame a guy she slept with that turned out to be her best friend's husband. As a stupid amateur sleuth, she screws everything up and makes one mistake after another. The police should have arrested her for interfering with their work.

But no, this bimbo keeps getting in everybody's hair, drugging the guy she suspects, not informing her best friend of her husband's infidelity and generally snooping in everybody's business. Meantime, she supposed to be working. All of us are hoping she gets knocked off.
