Nice work

1/1 has a good message about family and love and forgiveness. I mean, it's an odd movie and if the story were told simpler, it would be more effective. Any yet, in the end, I was touched.

What's up with the title?

Things that are good about 1/1 - they tried real hard to make something different, the music is rad, Lindsey Shaw I can't even. Things that are bad - 1/1 is hard to follow, it is slow.

Shows good. Playing dominos here watching it. I got a brown floor installed yesterday by woodshine. Wouldnt recommend them unless you can release all sorts of favors. Well its 12:01, gotta go answer the door for a cow standing outside. And then walk passed him into the portal.

Unlike Anything You'll See!
b-evans-9916720 July 2018
1/1 is densely visual, tension packed, and fueled ambition. A narrative that is more than relatable to those of us who have ever felt like outcasts or degenerates. This movie is glitchy, shocking, and unsettling in the best way.

A truly gripping feature debut for Jeremy Phillips, an amazing performance by Lindsey Shaw, and exquisite visual effects all lead to 1/1 being a must watch film!

Low budget, over edited, overbearing soundtrack.....not my type of movie
safsurfer20 July 2019
This film may please someone out there but it didn't please me. It seemed very low budget, so it was way over edited and cut up, the soundtrack was loud and overbearing, the drama was completely missing, no comedy, no romance, no plot. Sort of felt like a documentary at times but who knows....I saw very little direction and the actors had no good script to work with so they wasted everyones time. Sorry but this one is a stinker.

Intense, Deep, Raw
yabobubble-3957814 August 2018
Constructed the way a brain might actually process conflict, trauma, and transition, this film seethes with the dark side of emotion, allowing the viewer to become embroiled in each character's turmoil. The experience is effectively uncomfortable, an ultimately triumphant effort providing insight to perspective outside of one's own while bridging that gap with the familiarity of both feeling stuck and being jarred. Family rifts, mental illness, and the search to understand and accept oneself are intertwined through visual and aural art style unique to the filmmakers, breaking new ground. It is like nothing I've ever seen, and I hope to see much more from this team.

Warning: Spoilers
A bit confused fusing on where this is going or what the plot is for a while, but it's something to watch if nothing else is drawing your attention. But turns out to be your typical girl regrets mistakes and life issues and lessons show.

Really different. i think you have to go into it with an open mind and allow it take you on a journey and if you do that you're in for a very moving and visceral experience.

Not a waste of time
I like weird stuff. Give me some Lynch, Noe or Jodorowsky and I'm a happy camper. This isn't quite as surreal (or as good) as those masters. It's a descent into drugs and meaningless sex. It's well made. Performances are terrific - Judd Nelson can proudly throw his fist in the air for this one! Better than Beastmaster.

Unwatchable
lanaliliya24 December 2020
This movie is completely unwatchable. I don't think I have ever watched a movie with this much flashbacks, cutaways, and flashing. The moment I got interested by the current scene it would cut away again. I don't mind a few cutaways, but every 30 seconds loses the impact of the current scene.

Trying too hard to be "Requiem for a Dream"
Obligated_Antenna20 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was distracting and over-edited. It felt as though it was trying really hard to be gritty and impactful like Requiem for a Dream but instead came across as overdone and at times boring. The whole lead up to the main actress seeing a Dr to tell him she may be possibly be pregnant was dramatic and so was the sequence of her smoking a cigarette and waiting for the pregnancy test results. Cutting back and forth to grainy footage of despair and back to the actual scene lost its effect in the first 5 minutes of the movie for me. Also, in the "normal" scenes it at times feels like you're watching a Lifetime movie.

It's definitely something different and offers to showcase what is the human condition, but maybe less could be more?

Judd Nelson
safARI806 January 2023
I know Judd Nelson has had his ups and downs over the decades, but I love him in New Jack City and The Breakfast Club. I watched this indy film on Amazon Prime because of Nelson and much to my surprise I honestly think this in one of his all time best performances. He's not in it much but he brings such a strength and gravity to the role. No joke. Seriously watch him in this movie, it's incredibly impressive what he does with a mostly silent part (it's not a silent movie, the character is a deeply troubled man of few words). It'd be great to see his talents shine in more movies like this. Cast him!

Filmmaking masterpiece
sithembisomkhize-1862930 October 2019
This is a filmmaking masterpiece, shows how you dont need a big budget and a lot of actors to make a great movie. It is so well executed. I loved the usage of text in transitioning the storyline and also the close up shots, which make a great point.

Hidden gem. Glad I watched it (twice).
aryn-youngless20 July 2018
I love this little film. It's one anyone can identify sign. Either you've been there or you know someone who has. The performances were spot on, but my favorite part is a scene between Lissa (Lindsey Shaw) & Joan (Dendrie Taylor) that struck a nerve. Their performances were so good you get sucked into it. Love it!

undeniably cool

The Good - the music, the excellent shots, Lindsey Shaw...and oh my yes, Judd Nelson. The best scene is the end argument with Joan/mom. It's riveting.

The Bad - mayyyybe too much editing, it's very loud

The Ugly - the fornication in the bathtub - you'll know it when you see it and you won't forget it.

Perfection
godsgirl-1707627 July 2018
To the mind of one who sees the world as it truly is, this movie is perfect. It's raw in emotion and true to the cruelty of every day life in any town, big or small.

Dark brooding mysterious

You're gonna know in like 2mins if this movie is for you. If you are most people, you will not like it. But if you're open, chill and have good taste, you'll like 1/1. Fact.

Different is sometimes good
yourmomsdarkweb3 September 2018
Lindsey Shaw rules. Liars rule. Judd Nelson rules. Dendrie Taylor rules. 1/1 has many strengths. It's a slow burn, so hang in there during the first 30 minutes. Actually, that was my favorite part, but my wife was like "nahhhhh." But then she loved the rest. Funny enough, overall, she likes 1/1 more than me. I don't get the title. Whatever.

A visual delight, amazing soundtrack, breakout performances
stoner_bud24 August 2018
Listing all of the reasons to check out the indie drama would take longer than if you just trust me, and go watch it. Spend the time you would have used reading this to discuss the film afterwards, because you are going to want to talk about it. The sights, sounds, and performances from 1/1 will flash into your consciousness for weeks to come. Stop reading this, gather your most interesting friends, turn out the lights, crank up the speakers, and enjoy 1/1.

This film is so finely layered that it's complexity seems effortless and natural. Each element on its own would be reason enough to check out this movie. The cinematography is so beautiful that I could happily watch this flick on Mute. The soundtrack is absolutely worth purchasing and listening to on its own. The performances are so solid that you could watch 1/1 as a play. The editing is tight with a tense pace. The script has such a light and subtle touch, you'll swear it was adapted from a poem, or maybe a song.

Everyone involved in this movie needs to work more. How can you watch 1/1 and NOT want to cast Lindsey Shaw in EVERY movie? Hollywood, put her in more movies! And Judd Nelson steps up to the plate and reminds us why he is a household name. Judd turns out a very powerful, tortured performance. The director, the cinematographer, everyone here has a bright future, and I cannot wait to see what they make next.

this is something especial
harrifs5325-745-45223620 January 2020
What this movie lacks in story or dialogue, it more than makes up for in experience. It has raw intense visuals. If you are looking for an experiment or something different, this is it.

The basic story is about a possibly pregnancy and how that connects the main character to her parents. Not much really happens but it's told in an enthralling and unrestrained way.

The visuals induce you to consider what's going on beyond the story, they make you think about your own family tree and bloodlines. It's kind of a ride in its own way.

All the principal actors do a great job, especially Lindsey Shaw and Judd Nelson. The assured and unusual visuals take you long for the emotional ride.

Never seen anything quite like it
baileyessrog21 July 2018
I'm a big fan of the band Liars, so I checked out this movie. The music, in combination with the visuals, really took me into the character's mind. I think you'd call it a coming-of-age story. But it's different. The filmmaking almost seems like it "grows up" along with the girl or something, if that makes sense. I probably need to see it again to understand everything. Definitely not for everyone but strangely compelling.
