Thala fans -Don't Dare miss it!!
satheesh9886410 January 2014
Veeram is out and out commercial entertainer ,perfectly blended and presented for Ajith fans and general audience.Story doesn't carry much value in this movie. It's just a brawl between good and evil. But the way they have presented this film holds your attention till the end. Ajith looks refreshing and new in the south Indian costume. His charisma and screen presence steals the show. There are certain moments in the movie where fans would go absolutely aw-struck by Ajith's performance.Others have done their part pretty well. Coming to composing,DSP has done a fair job with the BGM .However he fails to impress with the songs. As an audience you would be satisfied after watching this movie.

Good and not Good too
yashmishra9114 January 2014
"Veeram" stands out as an all and all simple yet a good Pongal entertainer with some great moments and some style factor. The film's weak points lie in few of the moments which are draggy plus the over melodramatic quotient within few of the moments in the film. Apart from that, the editing by Kasi .V. builds up great intensity somewhere, but the slickness gets loose in some scenes too. The music score by DSP lends some good support to the film and when it comes to the film's positive points, then its the narration by the director Siva which entertains you well, then well choreographed sequences by Silva, great comedy factor and few great punchlines written by Bharathan and Bhoopathy Raja, then the characters especially Tamannah and Santhanam who are at their brilliant best and then comes Ajith Kumar who in his two different looks is at his usual best and his machismo and charisma is as great as usual, making the film worth a good outing! My rating would be: 3.5/5

A mass movie
achuthan-vasu10 January 2014
The movie is simple for family audience, till first half movie is for fans alone, then story changed to be family subject Veeram is awesome Alongside Ajith, it was noted that four young actors would appear as his brothers in the venture. Vidharth, who rose to fame with his role in Mynaa, was signed on for the film after discussions with Prasanna was unsuccessful.[4] Suhail Chandhok, brother of former Formula One racer Karun Chandhok.

The film's soundtrack was composed by Devi Sri Prasad, scoring for an Ajith Kumar for the first time. The music rights were bagged by Junglee Music

Another mass masala entertainer for Pongal and Thala's Pongal recipe for his fans .....
SivakumarBalachandran14 January 2014
It's a commercial spicy masala pongal for the Tamil cinema industry, since two big stars launch their commercial movies at the same time. Nevertheless both of them where commercial mass entertainer so clearly no space for logics. So now let's see What Thala Ajith has come up with his commercial Pongal recipe for us.

Veeram on the whole has got no big fresh story line but the same 1990's style of Tamil rural base story has been presented in a refreshing way. So obliviously the same old wine in new bottle.

Director Siva has strategically handled the standard commercial template of cinema. A racy first half filled with typical Brother Sentiment- Comedy- Heroic Action-Romance. An engaging second half with Family Sentiment- Raging Action-Romance. Plus both sides had songs equally distributed.

Coming to the star cast first our Thala Ajith as Vinayagam after his continuous urban avatars is now seen on a rural make over. Our Billa was looking equally stylish in the traditional outfit. He has done full justice to his role starting from romance sentiment comedy and fierce action sequences.

Tammanah Bhatia as Koppu has given a comeback to Tamil cinema after her average grosser Venghai in 2011.Got to say this diva has still got the oomph factor in her. She had lots of screen space to perform a character in between a traditional and modern girl but I found her flawed in main emotional and crying sequences. But that doesn't stop me saying "Man she looked ravishingly beautiful".

When romance department was handled by Tammanah the comedy department was given to Santhanam who did fairly well with his jokes but though it was engaging nothing nailed your heart as a comedy. Nassar as a big shot and a peacemaker of a village entered lately but his performance was superb of course his acting skills are legendary. So moving on to the supporting role casting it had lots of actors, some of them where seen in both big releases of Pongal. As usual the technicalities of the movie had nothing big since it's a commercial venture aimed at satisfying all class audience. So nothing special for elite movie viewers. Music was below average as far as the songs. But BGM was racy.

Verdict: Director Siva's second Tamil Venture Veeram is undoubtedly a commercial mass entertainer for the whole family and particularly a true Thala pongal for core thala fans.

NB: Viewers who strictly stick on stuff and story based movies are advised to miss this flick for sure.

Veeram stands Bravely
vimal-playboy-tvl10 January 2014
Ajith is Vinayak, the affectionate elder brother of four, crossing the mountains to make it big and yes the traditional story indeed. And to make the brother bond firm and glued, he detests marriage. Enter Pichai Muniyandi aka Santhanam who takes the first half on a roller coaster ride of decent fun! You can't write this comedian off, not without utilizing his real potential! The tirade he runs through by trying to get the ruff and tuff Vinayak to fall in love along with the younger brothers is thoroughly enjoyable.

Tamannah is Kopurendevi the bubbly doll, doing justice to her character is not just the usual heroine who runs behind her Romeo for duets and Siva has utilized her thoroughly. Bringing the little cupid that's hidden in the rough and honest Vinayak is the first half, and "n" attempts later finally it happens. Never has mass action been related in such an enjoyable way with no much Punch dialogues and the best part is how neatly action has been unveiled!

Siva and Boopathy Raja's storytelling deserves an applaud for it has taken the tested rural story and decorated it with mass, action and most importantly made use of Ajith's enormous screen presence to the full potential. There are minor drawbacks like showcasing too much affection one too many times, these are very vintage sentimental trysts. The second half with sentiments and bonding is quite a lag, but on the whole it doesn't jolt you much. DSP is known to have given some excellent mass numbers in the past, however Veeram will sadly remembered only for its aggressive BGM and not the songs. The art directors and Vetri's cinematography of the beautiful village milieu is relishable! Coming to the cast, Ajith Ajith Ajith all the way! Most of the mass action movies have the heroes carrying the movie through the film, however Veeram has proved it doesn't have to be! Ajith has demystified the fact that mass does not relate to entire movie presence, but the times you appear should make you stand up and clap! His body language is adorable and the salt n pepper looks makes him look even charmer! After him, Santhanam is the key, with his one liners making you double with laughter and sticks well to the story as well. Nassar, Viddharth, the brothers do their role well enough, with Pradeep menacing as a villain should be.

On the whole a complete family entertainer, finish your Pongal rituals and rush to Veeram! You ain't gonna regret it!

Veeram- Hardly Impressed
vignesh87851711 January 2014
I saw the movie on the 2nd day. Keeping aside all the fancy dressed fan made ratings i went in open minded.

Veeram is an avg entertainer with a huge fan build up.

If you expect the movie to be a full length entertainer, surely disappoints.

Santhanam keeps us alive throughout the movie. To be frank he has a upper hand.

Ajith has justified his role.

Avg songs and BGM from DSP

Vetri's camera work is appreciable.

Siva screenplay is avg.

Storyline is same old fashioned family sentiment.(sometimes boring were

Santhanam helps to retain the momentum)

Overall the film falls in BTW Aarambam and Billa 2.

6/10...There is no doubt about collection record,it is impressive all over south

But one must wait and see how the film reaches neutral fans who throng the screens usually after 2 days from the date of release

Non sensical entertainer
ragingbull_200516 April 2023
Why this: *Kisi ka bhai, kisi ki jaan*, Salman Khan's upcoming mega release is its remake.

Veeram is sexist, non sensical and entertaining in the first half. The plot is partially inspired by Seven Brides for seven brothers / Satte pe Satta.

Ajith drips charisma. Tamannah Bhatia has never looked more gorgeous. The situational comedy made me cackle at times. The humor is generally low brow. The action scenes are few and are over the top.

The second part plunges unexplored depths in stupidity. The wafer thin plot goes for a toss and new villains, with laughable motivations, are introduced. It is headache inducing and might make you invoke your iron will to see it to the last frame.

For the life of me, I can't understand why it is being remade. It is below average for most of the times and warrants an FIR on the directors for the waste of time and attention.

Mass Entertainer that brings in the festive mood for Pongal ahead of its time...
spandiyar12 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Ajith as Vinayagam shines in every glimpse with extraordinary screen presence & charisma. The story (though not new) is tailor made with all the necessary elements of a commercial entertainer. Will be an enjoyable watch for the whole family.

Ajith fans would love to see their man with village makeover that aptly suits him on every frame. Oh man.. the dialogues were awesome... feels more like a real life experience. Ajithkumar being a hero in real life too, makes those dialogues more meaningful.

The sentiment scenes in the second half of the movie may seem redundant, but still watchable... as it is well matched up with excellent performances from Nasser, Thamanna & rest of the crew.

Overall a nice family entertainer that will be a sure shot blockbuster for this festive season...

Thala Pongal all the way!
thunder2321 March 2014
Thala Ajith is back to his rural avatar. Every movie fan in Kollywood is having their curiosity to know how Ajith would carry himself in a traditional rural subject .After watching the movie one can frankly say that ' Thala irangi adichurukar'.

Veeram is all about a fearless elder brother of a family, his relationship with his four brothers and how a gorgeous lady love and her family changes his life. In the recent past, we haven't seen a mass entertainer with feel good factor and appropriate mass screen presence. Veeram has brought the good old days which can be enjoyed by everyone in the family for a festival occasion, thanks to Ajith's majestic screen presence and Siva's screenplay which is a complete package for the audience.

Discussing about the cast it is Ajith all the way, the actor leads the show like a true super star and the film moves at a rapid pace with his powerful screen presence. It is too good to see Ajith with ample amount of energy, be it the fight sequence or the dance sequence. Ajith has showed his true character and it is an absolute treat to the viewers.

After Ajith, it is Santhanam who acts as a pillar of strength to Veeram. The comedian has made a great comeback and his comic one-liners bring the roof down. Tamannaah has given a superb performance in the film. The gorgeous Tammu looks perfect in every scene and has done justice to the meaty role offered to her.

The other supporting cast including Nassar, Appu Kutty, Atul Kulkarni, Viddarth, Suhail, Bala, Pradeep Rawat, Thambi Ramaiah have given adequate performance.

Veeram is not just another mass masala entertainer, the film's cinematography quality and editing by K Viswanath is more than adequate. The rail stunt sequence gives goose-bumps, especially when Ajith hangs out of the train. Dialogues by Barathan is another big bonus and even the punch-dialogues doesn't appear to be exaggerated and it suits Ajith's mass image.

Devi Sri Prasad's songs are just okay but the BGM is solid and gives the perfect mass feel for the film. Last but not the least, director Siva must be lauded for this splendid entertainer. Though there are some cliché scenes in the second half, the director has maintained the tempo with an unique pace and it is the toughest task for any commercial entertainer.

On the whole, Veeram is a perfect family outing so don't miss this colorful cinema for this pongal.

Veeram - A movie for Telugu fans
ranger80411 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Veeram - Watched movie in Oscars(katpadi). Called family members to come for the movie. They said its a movie of Ajith and I wont come because movie will contain Drinks, Girls in Half dress. I replied that movie is a village based and thriller movie and it has got U certified. Also i said them that movie is fully commercial. They said as "Is Ajith trying to cover family members?", "That wont happen, first impression is the best impression" so that wont let any of the family members to come to theaters. 2'ndly I myself went to movie alone and watched. Every1 are boys not even a single family person found. Veeram 1st half had good comedies but only santhanam stole the shows. 2nd half Ajith's daring fight scenes were good. BGM with the song was nice. Songs was a big drawback. No chemistry between ajith & tamanna. Ajith tried making jokes like other heros but it didn't work well. Ajith was shown like a mass hero with dialogues. Screenplay was dull in 2nd half. More or less watchable only by ajith fans and once. A bad try from Ajith.

Veeram roars!!!
rajkumar_m13 January 2014
It's really different film in Ajith's career where he shows massy difference from classy looks he delivered in his previous films. It should be appreciated that he's the only actor in India who's doing stunts without any dupe in his movies. This dedication gives him success when he's doing right movies with right team. And hatsoff to the Siva&Team that even though story is not new to tamil, screenplay and ajith's screen presence should be give applause. DSP has done good job in BGM and theme song. Tamanna added beauty and santhanam asusual delivered good comedies. As, Arrambam is simple... Veeram is Mass family entertainer...

Veeram is an engaging family entertainer with enjoyable fan moments
kumarankulam6 February 2021
Ajith is uniting for the first time with Siva in Veeram. After the successful entertainer Siruthai, Siva is offering a complete entertainer that has everything to entertain the hardcore Ajith fans and the family audience. The action drama has Ajith in a rural role for the very first time in his career. Unlike his classy stylish coat and suit that he is used to, Ajith is seen with a veshti and we have to admit that he looks perfect in that attire. The amount of energy that he carries throughout the film is contagious to the audience. Again, this is another feast for his larger than life persona. Veeram doesn't only depend on Ajith which is quite satisfying. We have an ensemble cast of actors who has at least something to do in the film. In fact, the supporting actors are making the film interesting and engaging. Santhanam's comedy track with the four brothers, Tamannaah's romantic track and the family scenes in the second half are pretty much making Veeram a worth watch. The antagonist doesn't look menacing but his voice is something that will give you some fear. Let's come to Siva. As a director, Siva made Veeram a proper justification for Ajith's star image. We have so many moments to celebrate Ajith the superhero. The train fight scene and the climax fight scene are complete fan moments. Even though it's an Ajith film, Veeram doesn't seem to have any downfall for Ajith in the plot which is affecting the overall challenge of the film. Ajith is always winning which becomes quite predictable towards the second half and doesn't give us any sort of suspense for the rest of the narration. Well, the less menacing antagonist has nothing to do with Ajith. He keeps losing to Ajith till the end which actually gives us the thought that he is not worth as an antagonist. Overall, Veeram is an engaging family entertainer with enjoyable fan moments.

boredom
tharun-464393 March 2018
Saw this movie after seeing good reviews at the time of its release .believe me the movie is unbearable with some 50 yr old story and baaaad screenplay by the great cheetah siva.the thing i liked about this movie is comedy by santhanam and thambi ramayya.can t imagine themovie without them ,if they were not there then common audience would have moved out of the theater.those 4 stars are just for the comedy in the movie

finally this movie is strictly for those diehard ajith fans who thinks it is enough to see ajith walk in the movie.but for common audiences it is must miss movie

Falls in love and has to fight for it. That's it....
harish-murali0011 March 2014
Reached expectations? Not at all. IF you expected comedy and masala, you guessed right. Movie would have been nice if it released in the 80s.

Direction: 7/10 A classical direction. Half the shots you just like, you have got to be kidding me, it's that cheap. Half of the shots had no effort into it. The other half however were nice like the train action scene was the best in the whole movie. Mainly the action scenes had effort. The rest had none. Nothing special added.

Screenplay: 7/10 Movie was fast paced at first and had nice comedy. 2nd half it could get boring for a few. Some people didn't mind. The movie did have decent screen writing and etc. But nothing special.

Editing: 7/10. Nice editing. Some parts it was cheap and annoying. But overall it was decent.

Story: 4/10 Nothing new, another stupid 80s story added in. It was cheap, nothing new, and sometimes annoying.

Acting: 7/10 Decent acting. Sometimes the characters were over exaggerated. Ajith did an excellent job. Santhanam did too. Villains were OK and the rest did decent.

Music: 6.5/10 Background music was not bad. It was nice and enjoyable. Theme music was nice too. The songs were OK. Some were horrible and some were decent.

Verdict: Movie was OK and could have been way better. 6.4/10

Mass Redefined!!
crazymindhere0713 January 2014
Well! This is what I have been waiting for. The movie that has everything that you can expect. action, comedy, sentiment. Ajith has given his best as usual. what;s not usual here is the fact that the story is of rural backdrop. Wat more can you expect from Mr.Ajith Kumar? He is a man of words. In the recent times it has become a trend of what he does on screen. Right from the beginning he carries the charisma. wow! the action scenes are must to be spoken about.. I have forgot the name of the stunt director. He has done a cameo too. Santhanam is in full form. Ajith has come out with his back to back blockbuster times.. He is unstoppable.

Veeram is powerless
kmpdiwa12 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
An average movie with Ajith presence and Santhanam comedy really saved this powerless Veeram. Veeram is a total rural masala feast for this pongal to Ajith fans with comedy, action and romance but we don't see anything different. DSP music is totally a fall down compared to his previous movies. This Veeram is strictly for die-hard Thala fans. Director Siva's script and screenplay completely let down the normal audiences. Overall, Veeram is not impressive and can watch only for Ajith.

Review Veeram
ashvsdn19 April 2014
I can accept that it is the star rated and high profile movie. But truly and with fact oriented. The movie is disgusting when comparing Ajith's previous movie(Aarambam). The 1st half of the movie shows the mass of the hero and looks like good platform for the movie. But the second half has completely spoiled it. After the interval block, the movie is useless. The BG in 1st half is OK. But the Songs are as usual Copy of DSP's old numbers. E.G(Kaathadi Pola from Maayavi, Theme from Singham etc....). Utter Non sense movie. What a non sense of songs he will compose. He will compose all from telegu songs. Last thing. How can we agree Tammanah as Ajith's Pair. Utter non sense that the old man is loving a teenager. If Ajith don't want to dye his hair, then e should choose a heroine like Shee Devi or Revathi.

This movie is a Perfectly packaged commercial entertainer :-)Overall it is Thala all the way. His stylish and solid performance and his dare-devil stunts are a highlight.it is a must watchable movie.Ajith's wholesome package for the masses.Fun, romance, action, 2nd half: Sentiment & action.Ajith really looks charming with this white hair look and doesn't have any qualms showing his real age on screen. Interestingly, the romance scenes have actually worked out well despite the looks. He is equally convincing as both untamed aggressive guy in the first half and controlled passive guy in the second half. Ajith's acting and screen presence are top notch and he carries the movie from start to finish

A mass entertainer far away from sensible cinema. The real Veeram element is surviving this cringe classic.
SAMTHEBESTEST8 April 2023
Veeram (2014) : Brief Review -

A mass entertainer far away from sensible cinema. The real Veeram element is surviving this cringe classic. Since it's a commercial potboiler and not a content driven cinema, let's talk about its box office. Veeram was an average grosser. It has been remade twice, and both the remakes have bombed at the box office. Now, we'll soon see the third one this Eid in Bollywood. As you can gather from its box office, you know it's not a good film. But how bad it is is the real question. Yeah, it's a terrible one. An out-and-out mass flick with lots of cringeworthy moments that have nothing to do with good cinema. Forget good cinema; it's not even close to decent or average. Ajith fans might survive this as their star is seen doing everything heroic that's possible in cinematic liberty, but besides that or in the repeat viewing, even they will skip it. So, it's an outdated script alright, and it could have held better if it wasn't for the horrible screenplay. The characters aren't real; they behave like cartoons. The action is so over the top that if you blink, you'll miss someone flying and dropping on the ground within that fraction of a second. We usually say that comedy has no sense, but it can't be so dumb that even kids have to make fun of it. Veeram is full of cringes that are annoying and, on occasion, immensely frustrating. How on earth was that young-looking Tamannaah paired with an old-looking Ajith? They were looking like a pair of uncle and niece, and yet you have to tolerate them doing romance. How can God be so cruel? Don't even mention the dialogues because even the Orkut and Facebook jokes before 2014 used to have better humour and comedy. As a whole, Veeram is terrific crap served under the cover of a commercial mass entertainer, but believe me, in real life, you have to be braver than the macho protagonist to survive this hell of a cringe. Just can't believe that people were so low with the brain to have chosen this for a remake.

RATING - 4/10*

Veeram-review for thala fans!
sinu-p-nair13 January 2014
Veeram! The fire is set when thala appears for the first time and requests the audience to take their seats.Ammo! who can give such a mass opening?.It was very hard to stick on to the dialogues amidst the whistles. Some scenes were boring at the start.Vinayagam feeding and assaulting the culprits, but thala has managed to balance those through his charisma. Movie takes pace thereon and it keeps us at the edge of our seats. Scenes have resemblance to other movies but the hero is the king-maker here. The action scene where the four brothers flee and finally wait at an open space makes us remember saami. We are 5 not 4-thala on a swing with Ayyanar at the backdrop. The whole house was rocking.Goosebumps! Thala handles all the action sequences with ease.Action sequences are exclusively made for thala fans.Ajith is seen with an energy-level never seen before.Thaara thappatta kizhiya pogudhu!Yep.Our ear drums were torn. The train action-sequence before the intermission was awesome.Hats off to our thala who had taken the risks without dupes. DSP rocks with his BGM.I coudn't choose anyone other than DSP for this mass number.Rocking performance. After the intermission, the film takes it way to a family genre,Thala has perfectly managed between the action and family genres. The dialogue delivery from thala was the highlight of the movie.Credits to director siva. Romantic sequences were in typical thala style.Still a romantic champ even in salt'n'pepper looks. The climax sequence was the peak.Thala fans were rejoicing when thala gets up in 'jayam' style.

Ultimate treat for Thala fans!Real 'Thala Pongal'! For those who look for a good storyline, try movies like 'onpadhu roopa nottu'

Veeram - Only for die-hard Thala fans
fredberglyle2 February 2014
Started as an action packed re-script of Vaanathaipola is just another masala flick made for the star's wide fan base. The movie has good number of slap-sticks from Santhanam and Thambiramaiyya for laughs. I personally enjoyed action scene at the metro and few action sequences near the climax (but not the climax IMO).

Contrast to the above positives, I found the movie hard to watch due to over-hyped action/stunt scenes. The repetitive screenplay and highly predictive massy script was a pain in the neck. The bottom line : a mass entertainer filled with action, comedy and sentiments but nothing new.

Sakkara Pongal from Thala!
ratheesh-sahayaraj14 January 2014
After Long Time Thala Ajith does a Full fledged Rural Mass Masala Film and it does help him big time.

Ajith as Vinayagam rules the screen with his new body mannerisms and slang and proves that he can rock in comedy scenes as well.Mass Scenes have come out very well for Ajith and he carries off the film with his screen presence. He gets chance to perform in romance scenes also after long time.

Tamannah gets a good role after long time in this film after doing some crazy minded character as in Siruthai. Not even a single moment does she irritate u.Her Love scenes with Ajith are a major highlight in the movie.

Santhanam keeps u entertained with his comic one-liners and keeps the pace of the movie interesting.Vidharth,Suhail,Munish and Bala who play the role of Ajith's brother's have done a neat job.The Presence of Nasser,Appukutty,Thambi Ramaiah is also a big plus.

Pradeep Rawat and Atul Kulkarni even though with limited screen space have done justice to their roles.

Director Siva keeps u entertained with a simple storyline with his powerful screenplay and Bharathan's dialogs make the scenes more fiery.

Intro Song and Theme Music by Devi Sri Prasad are rocking even though other 3 songs are poorly composed.DSP's Background score is rocking and elevate many scenes especially climax fight.

Cinematography by Vetri is awesome and Edit by kasi viswanathan is what one needs for a mass mas ala movie.Stunts by Silva are rocking especially the train fight sequence.

For Fanboys & Family
raj04049217 January 2014
A violent straight forward man resorts to peace for his new-found love only to find that there is more, to the girl's family, than meets the eye. Veeram is a rare combination that magnetizes both family and fan boys simultaneously.

Ajith with the grey hair that matches his dhoti has made the most of his on-screen presence. What he lacks in dance, he makes up with his expressions which the director has explored well with several close-up shots.

Tamanna has equal footing with Ajith. This time around she has bound her curves inside and has made an honest attempt to bring forth expressions on to that flawless face.

Punch dialogues have been limited to the most possible extent. The only punch comes from the antagonist to which Ajith remarks, "With that big a moustache, I would have been very much disappointed if you had not made a punch dialogue".

Santhanam stands apart in the crowded first-half with his wits only to disappear in the second half where Thambi Ramaiah takes the front seat.

Despite their many years in the industry, Pradeep Rawat and Athul Kulkarni are still struggling to lip synch let alone act.

Logic has been shown the door in a few sequences (Athul escaping an explosion in a "petrol bunk" while others char to death. No authorities investigating the so many dead bodies thanks to Ajith) but in the flow of matters they are passable.

DSP, besides the BGM, has disappointed with almost everyone in my screening waiting for the song sequences to exit for the loo.

Siva, after a remake in the form of "Siruthai", has come up with an original script which if remade in another languages is not a surprise. Like mentioned ahead, he has balanced the family quotients well with fan-boy's demands.

Veeram- Worth your time and money.
