Veeram (2014)
Sakkara Pongal from Thala!
After Long Time Thala Ajith does a Full fledged Rural Mass Masala Film and it does help him big time.
Ajith as Vinayagam rules the screen with his new body mannerisms and slang and proves that he can rock in comedy scenes as well.Mass Scenes have come out very well for Ajith and he carries off the film with his screen presence. He gets chance to perform in romance scenes also after long time.
Tamannah gets a good role after long time in this film after doing some crazy minded character as in Siruthai. Not even a single moment does she irritate u.Her Love scenes with Ajith are a major highlight in the movie.
Santhanam keeps u entertained with his comic one-liners and keeps the pace of the movie interesting.Vidharth,Suhail,Munish and Bala who play the role of Ajith's brother's have done a neat job.The Presence of Nasser,Appukutty,Thambi Ramaiah is also a big plus.
Pradeep Rawat and Atul Kulkarni even though with limited screen space have done justice to their roles.
Director Siva keeps u entertained with a simple storyline with his powerful screenplay and Bharathan's dialogs make the scenes more fiery.
Intro Song and Theme Music by Devi Sri Prasad are rocking even though other 3 songs are poorly composed.DSP's Background score is rocking and elevate many scenes especially climax fight.
Cinematography by Vetri is awesome and Edit by kasi viswanathan is what one needs for a mass mas ala movie.Stunts by Silva are rocking especially the train fight sequence.
Overall a Pongal Treat by Ajith for his fans and others.
Arrambam (2013)
Make A Box Office Record Simple!
Thala Ajith Kumar Proves once again that his screen presence his enough to make a movie Blockbuster irrespective of the character. Ajith rules the show all the way as usual and this time with a macho look. Both as a vigilante seeking justice and a sincere bomb squad head Ajith scores well.He has redefined the term screen presence and is sure going to emerge as No.1 hero in the South after Rajini.
Arya comes as a next door guy and provides the lighter moments in the film be it the romance and comedy portions with taapsee or the hacking scenes that are crucial in the plot or his scenes with Thala where he first struggles to free himself from Ajith.
Nayanthara after a good comeback with Raja Rani shows off she can pull performance oriented roles too and not just being an eye candy....There is not even a single romance scene between the lead pair Ajith and Nayanthara.
Taapsee does a comic role as a reporter and never bores u for a single second.Rana Daggubati leaves an everlasting impression in the flashback scenes as Ajith's friend. Kishore and Atul Kulkarni in other pivotal roles also do full justice and live their characters.Mahesh Manjrekar as main villain is both mean and funny depending on the scene and adds up in making the scenes interesting.Suman Ranganathan as a news reporter shows off her cunningness in some parts and Akshara gowda provides the oomph factor in the Dubai scenes.Five Star krishna even though having limited screen space does his part well.
Vishnuvardhan after giving two duds Sarvam and Panjaa comes with a big bang with a social theme that could be well related to all.And with Subha's dialogs he makes a well packed story and a racy screenplay.
Yuvan's Songs are rocking and they are certainly his best in recent times. On the flip side his Background Music is irritating in many places and could have been better.
Om prakash's cinematography gives a Hollywood feel and Sreekar Prasad's editing make some scenes more racy than expected.
Anuvardhan's costumes are more stylish compared to previous films.
The Gun shots in the movie could have been reduced and Climax is somewhat lengthy.
On the whole a perfect action entertainer from Ajith and Vishnuvardhan to enjoy the weekend with your family!!!
Aadhi Bhagavan (2013)
Aadhibagavan-A pathetic way of storytelling
Seriously Tamil film directors have gone nuts especially the reputed ones.Aadhibagavan fails at many places.
Story is run of the mill and Screenplay fails big time.
Editing irritates mostly at the Fight scenes.Dubbing also is very poor.
Music and BGM fail to impress.2nd half is very dragging and full of loopholes.Climax is pathetic.
The movie is a rehash of Billa-2007 and Scarface at many places.
Aadhibagavan will definitely sink at the box office and drift away from the viewer's mind.
Avoid this movie if you value your time and money.
Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012)
Biggest Flop of 2012
Seriously the biggest Dud of 2012 in cinema.
Utter rehash of Vaaranam Aayiram and VTV.
Jiva's acting skills are average while Samantha's expressions and over- acting are unbearable to the core!
Santhanam is the only relief in the film.
1st half is Torturous while 2nd half is only songs.
BGM does not match the situation in many places.
The Movie doesn't make any impact at all.
Just because VTV was successful doesn't mean you can take the same approach every time.
Definitely Biggest Flop of this Year!
Maattrraan (2012)
Different attempt but stupid presentation
First of all i was frustrated with this year's biggies all flopping down........but i had some hope on Maattrraan due to KV Anand.....But he too proved that a good story and an excellent actor like Surya are not enough to make a movie a grand success.
Surya has performed well especially in the sentiment scenes.Kajal is also offered much scope in the movie.
The movie is pretty enjoyable in the first half but many illogical scenes and poor screenplay in second half make it pretty awkward and a senseless climax kills the movie. Many scenes resemble 7am Arivu.
Overall this movie could have been done better if there was a much better screenplay
Thaandavam (2012)
Worst movie of 2012
Seriously, Director AL Vijay has to stop copying films from now on.His Latest offering Thaandavam's storyline is just a rip-off from the popular movies "Ghajini" and "Ko"
The only good part in the movie was the first 30 minutes and Santhanam's comic sequences when he gets caught at the crime scene.
When the flashback starts you can see the audience yawning.
Songs are not very impressive except for 2 songs.Overall they further hamper the pace of the movie.
BGM is awkward at many places.
The scenes are very predictable in the second half.
I entered the theatre with a lot of expectations due to the earlier success of Vikram-Anushka-GVP-AL Vijay combo in "DeivaThirumagal" but this movie was a huge letdown. It wont survive too long.
Better luck next time Vijay! Don't let your next movie worse than this :D :D
Mankatha (2011)
Mankatha-The King!!!!!
MANKATHA-as the name suggests depicts the IPL gambling in India......
Thala 'Ajith' has done a neat job portraying his role as "Vinayak Mahadev"-The greedy and wicked man, whether in cheating others and exploiting them for his sake of attaining only three things-MONEY,MONEY,MONEY............
In the first half he does a bit on his comic side whereas on the 2nd half he shows his dark shades on how really bad Vinayak can be in his Wicked and Cunning tactics...........
The usage of Vulgar words show his peculiar character.....particularly when he kills Lakshmi Rai and says"The****a Mu**a"...........
Really this 50th film is far more better in performance and content than Ajith's Billa...........
Arjun as Prithvi plays an amazing role of a Cop next to Ajith.........
His encounter with Ajith and the subsequent action sequences are the highlight of the film.........
Vaibhav,Premji fit in small roles in the film.
Trisha is an unnecessary addition in the Film.Lakshmirai has taken some chance to perform in addition to the oomph factor.
Anjali,Andrea,Aravind Akash,Jeyaprakash have little scope.Newcomers Mahat and Ashwin have done their jobs well.........
Songs by Yuvan are Chartbusters especially 'Vilayadu Mankatha','Machi Open the Bottle' and 'Nanbanae'.'Vaada Bin Laada' is a treat to the eyes but slows down the pace of the Film.
Kudos to Venkat Prabhu for making a film concentrating particularly on the negative characters.
First half of Film is comic but slows down at few places and the second half is fast and energetic in Contrast. The last 20 minutes give a twist and make you sit on the edge of your Seat!!!!! On the whole........ Mankatha breaks the Clichés of Tamil Cinema and Thala 50 is sure to score a century or Double Century......
All the Best for Thala in his Future!!!!!
Kaavalan (2011)
Just an average movie
Kaavalan, the remake of bodyguard is not as great as its predecessor. The movie has 2 action sequences which were not in the original, inserted perhaps on vijay's wish.
The first half is altered and somewhat OK.But a scene in which the hero chases the drug sellers from the school is removed in this film.If it had been placed the first half would have been better.
The second half is full of dialogues and drags a little bit.The climax is touching.
But is it necessary for vijay to pose as the original bodyguard(dileep)by even imitating his hairstyle, moustache and dress code in the climax? Asin looks old and unfit as a heroine.
Vadivelu carries the pace in the first half on his shoulders.Rajkiran scores in some places.
The background score by vidyasagar is good but only the opening song is good and the other songs are average.
All siddique films have a sense of humour but this one is a way down.It does not keep us entertained like his previous combo with vijay-friends and lacks both humour and concept.
On the whole this is a different film for Vijay and his fans......not for Tamil Cinema!
