Those of us who take our horror films seriously are learning to look forward to new releases from Sundown Pictures and director, Matt Rasmussen. In his latest short, "Dawn of the Living: The Last Zombie," Rasmussen follows up the enjoyable "The Devil's in the Details" with another delightful plot-twist on a classic story line.
Rasmussen has clearly done his homework and even the most casual viewing of "Dawn of the Living" reveals reference to numerous classics of the horror genre. Yet, even as the young director tips his hat to such icons as "28 Days Later," "Night of the Living Dead" and the "Evil Dead" trilogy, he also breaks new ground in turning the zombie-film concept on its head.
Avoiding an all-out gore-fest, a solid ensemble cast compliments this creative venture. All-in-all, "Dawn of the Living: The Last Zombie" provides viewers with a great escape from the approach of Winter and one more reason to worry about the zombies.
This writer is already looking forward to the next production from the talented folks at Sundown Pictures.
