This episode sees the UCOS team brought in to investigate the murder of a man who was murdered on the night of the 1997 general election. Ben Ransley had worked for the Labour Party so had been celebrating at the victory party; then for some unknown reason he slipped away early. The case is reopened when it is discovered that he had £40,000 in a previously unknown Jersey bank account and nobody knows where he could have come into the money. As they start investigating the only new clue they come across is a photograph of Ben with an unknown woman. Eventually they learn that she was a Bosnian who had escaped to the UK after a massacre at her village. She had married an older man she had met in a private club but intended to run away with Ben. Once she is identified a number of suspects arise; her husband, the man who ran the club and a particularly oily lobbyist seem the most likely.
Once again we are treated to an enjoyably mystery with plenty of motives and a similar number of suspects. The case was interesting and should keep most viewers guessing. As always there are plenty of laughs to be had; largely from Gerry moaning about having to take part in a stake out. There are some serious themes though; while nothing too graphic is discussed the war crimes in Yugoslavia are talked about as it the reason a man had helped Ben's girlfriend escape from there. As always the regular cast perform well; new boy Nicholas Lyndhurst is fitting in nicely and it was nice to see his daughter, played by Storme Toolis, appear again even if she was only on a video link.
