simplicity and beauty
Blue-Grotto3 August 2014
Her breath, the movement of clouds, flow of a clear boreal forest stream, and ethereal music, work their magic to unite a pair of sensitive and quiet loners. This surreal, moving, resplendent film begins when a young woman runs away from her desperate existence in the city for the seashore wilderness of Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula. She eventually meets someone like herself who appreciates simplicity and beauty. Both characters seem to depend more upon beauty than food to stay alive. They communicate more in silence than by talking. Their moods are as fitful as gusts of wind. Their extreme sensitivity alike draws them together and pushes them apart. Only more support for this perceptive and capable director will help here. Seen at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
