Roy-al Boredom..!!
AnkAgarwal13 February 2015
First things first, this is not a Ranbir Kapoor movie, he is in an extended cameo, so don't get fooled by all those posters and advertisements. If you watch this movie (which I suggest you shouldn't) you will actually be thankful that this is not a Ranbir Kapoor movie, because nobody wants a brilliant actor like Ranbir to be associated with a movie so pathetic and dragged that for a minute you actually start thinking Dhoom 3 was a watchable movie. Its really tiring to sit through the 150 minutes, I actually went out of the theater twice. There is nothing good happening in the movie, there is only the long shots, the gloomy colors, the monotonousness of the frames, the dragged plot. The actors do nothing except sit and exchange philosophical disclosures that has nothing to do with the film. Both Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez are supposed to be film-makers who are making their own films, but still what all we see is them roaming here and there, drinking wine and singing and partying (this is precisely the reason why we are getting such horrible movies from bollywood nowadays).

Even after watching the movie I am not quite sure about what really was the motive behind the movie (none as far as I can see), it might also be because I did not care at all for the movie after an hour or so, I was just sitting there because I had paid for the film.

To anyone who is thinking of going to watch this movie, take a pair of headphones you will need them or rather do not go, wait for a while and soon it will premiere on TV.

ROY - A snooze-fest in the name of a thriller
akshay-ranganathan13 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Do you all remember a topper in your school-life, who never gave straight answers. The one, who used to convolute simple answers to simple questions. Vikramjit Singh, the debutante director, is one such person, who thinks he is smart, ends up complicating his own so- called swell idea, called, "Roy". It is so bizarre, random and so damn convoluted, even the leading hero of the movie, Arjun Rampal, says,"Pata nahin. Yeh film kaise bani"(I'm clueless about how this film was made). You're not alone, Arjun, as we are thinking that way too. But most of all, I pity Ranbir Kapoor to choose such a convoluted script.

Let's roll-in the synopsis. A maverick-cum-casanova filmmaker, Kabir Grewal(Arjun Rampal) is on the way to make a film on the art-thief called,"Roy". And for his movie, he flies off to Malaysia. There he meets the pink-lipped-Anglo-Indian filmmaker, Ayesha Aamir(Jacqueline Fernandez), and eventually, after continuous repeated meetings, she becomes his muse. In parallel to this story, a scintillating chemistry develops between a tourist, Roy(Ranbir Kapoor) and the red-lipped-beauty, Tia(Jacqueline Fernandez). Who is Tia? Will Ayesha be able to reciprocate Kabir's feelings for her? Who is Roy? What is/was he actually? How did he disappear? Find out by watching,"Roy".

The subject chosen by the movie's writer-director, Vikramjit Singh, looks and sounds good on paper. But, and that is quite a big,'but', when it comes to execution(read, the final print), it appears so random, convoluted. Yet, it is quite sleek and classy. But, in a nutshell, it is a box-full-of-nuts, packaged as a box-full-of- chocolates. So sad, isn't it?

As mentioned before, the story looks good on paper, but the screenplay and dialogues are so abysmally random(all written by Vikramjit Singh). The direction is no different(Vikramjit Singh). Music(Amal Mallik) is already a hit. It gels with the situations of the film, very well. Cinematography(Himman Dhamija) is colorful & vivid, and at the same time viscerally dark. Thereby, it sets the mood for the movie right, though it is not a thriller. Because, actually, it is a romantic movie, having the mood of a psychological-thriller. Artwork(Shraddha Johri) looks realistic.

Off the cast, Ranbir Kapoor, as mentioned above, is wasted. Arjun Rampal, for most of the time, looked sleepy and clueless. Jacqueline could not speak Hindi, but is forced to do so, thereby making her discomforted. Rest of the cast have almost nothing to do, especially Anupam Kher.

On the whole, "Roy" is for those people, who have nothing to do to kill time. Watch it, and it also acts as a cure for insomnia. I guarantee you all.

Ever dragging and boring.
abhishekagrawal16713 February 2015
Over rated, highly anticipated, lousy and lame piece of work to make one feel really bad for the time spent. Kabir Grewal(Arjun Rampal) an ambitious director is on the verge of starting his new venture named GUNS PART III, based on the adroit thief Roy(Ranbir Kapoor). Revolving around the thoughts and life of the director, the movie starts taking its shape parallel to the romantic track with Ayesha(Jacqueline Fernandez). The completion of this art and the emotions involved with it makes the plot of ROY. Vikramjit Singh makes a debut with this film as a Writer-Director and provides us a boring disaster. The pointless plot along with dragging narration, in the 147 minutes, makes this film seem like a week long holiday gone terribly sore. This film, with its tiring editing-screenplay, depicts a great example of how to destroy the already popular chartbusters by their wrong placing. But still the songs are the ONLY saving grace for the flick shot on some beautiful locations. Arjun Rampal looks pale throughout the length and Ranbir Kapoor disappoints heavily with his extended cameo(wonder why it was termed 'dynamic role' in the credits). Jacqueline Fernandez is same as she was in her previous outing, but it is a delight to see her amidst all sleepy happenings. One of the most awaited film of this year falls straight far below expectations leaving you sorry for all the time and money spent

Roy Is A Glamorous Film About Nothing. ♦ 0%
nairtejas13 February 2015
The cast and the music had a magnetic effect on me. But once the film reel began rolling, I was experiencing symptoms of depression and schizophrenia.

Roy starts and ends on one single note: blankness. While I am still trying to figure out what the writer intended by conveying such a senseless story, I have not yet recovered from the trauma I had after sitting through two and a half hours of nothingness. Vikramjit Singh's characters are pretentiously polished: Arjun Rampal as an arrogant writer and director who uses a typewriter, Jacqueline Fernandez as a book-loving, reserved filmmaker, and Ranbir Kapoor as a (mute) thief who drives around in a convertible, you know, for the effect. Yes, Kapoor has a total of fifteen dialogs (including "Ooh," "Aah," and "Aao") in the film. (Also, if you observe, the beginning credits introduces Kapoor to be in a "dynamic role." What does the director mean by this? If ever I meet the amateur Vikramjit Singh in a coffee house, I'll make sure that I ask him this question and write a piece about it verbatim.)

The thief in the film introduces himself as a thief so that we don't misconstrue the makers as thieves for robbing us off through the ticket costs. This happens in less than twenty minutes into it, and I did not need any more proof to consider how bad the film was gonna be. Even if I forgo the snail-paced narration, I cannot forgive Singh for botching up the screenplay. It has the worst screenplay I have seen all this year, and it is a good thing from a Bollywood point of view. The story constructed is so choppy, I bet you will turn to your therapist after watching it.

Bad cinematography and good photography mix together and bring out blues in the exotic locales the film has been shot in. The dialogs are plain bad, and so is the cast performance. Only Rampal comes out as an average player.

If you want me to tell it, then, yes, the music and songs are good. Period. But the score is repetitive, often sampling many of the songs' melodies. I bet most of us have seen the best parts of the movie in the trailer, and if you were to divide Roy, as a film, into two parts: one as the trailer, and one as the film intrinsically, you would have two polarizing videos.

BOTTOM LINE: There is not an iota of thrill in the storyline, nor is the story fathomable. Roy only looks good in the trailer, and for a moment there, I even thought the whole film was a tediously long advertisement for Godrej lockers and CCTV cameras. Regretlessly Avoidable!

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

Don't even think about thinking about it
stepmonestar13 February 2015
Fifty minutes in to the movie I started to ask the question 'What is going on here? Where is the movie I was promised by the trailer?' Nearly all the scenes that were in the trailer have been played out by now. You could stare at Jacqueline or Ranbir or Arjun and you could sing along with the chart buster songs. That's it, that's all you can do in the theater after the first 20 minutes or so. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen more than what the movie has to offer.

Somewhere in the 'intellectual' dialogs and sleek, stylish cinematography lies buried the dreams of an amateur director with a lot of potential. Vikramjit Singh will need a lot more nurturing before he can make a coherent movie. I have nothing to spoil the plot, that is how bad the movie is. I would give this 0 out of 10 just because the promise was not delivered upon.

I have been fortunate enough to know people who have made 15 minute short films with more sense and better vision. None of the actors are at fault although one would not have expected Ranbir Kapoor to be part of such a movie. Maybe even he was fooled by the seemingly engrossing premise like the rest of us.

Worst Movie Ever... Surpassed Tees Maar Khan in every aspect
stlawrencescrabble2113 February 2015
Roy is a pathetic attempt by the debut director Vikramjit Singh. It is by far the worst movie I have ever seen. Poor script with equally poor direction will make you pull your hair even before the interval of the movie. The talents of Arjun Rampal and Ranbir have been completely wasted. The viewer will never get a hang of what is happening on the screen. The narration is equally pathetic. There are a lot of continuity errors in the movie making the viewer puzzled.

The songs of the movie are good.

The only point for which one should go to watch Roy is the beauty of Jacqueline Fernandez.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND PRECIOUS TIME WATCHING ROY.

Not a single moment to enjoy
dineshprakash13 February 2015
Trailer and promo were reflecting that there is some mystery and thrill but after fifteen minutes of film you get the sense that there is nothing, you are victim of a boring stuff in the name of creativity. This is complex representation of a simple and many time seen concept. There is a dialogue in film that says that there is a type of film, which is only made for the sake of makers, without caring of audience, this line is appropriate for this film itself. Complete film is full of parallel cuts without any story line and emotions. It must have sounded fancy just at the idea level. Good actor Ranbir Kapoor gone waste. He had nothing to do. Sometimes I couldn't understand that what push them to do such type of film. Arjun Rampal is OK. Hindi does not suit a bit to Jacqueline Fernandez but she had make to speak difficult words even when it was not required for her character. It irritates more than her performance less acting.

A punishment
nietzsche_is_dead13 February 2015
This is my first review. I had to write it because this is the movie I stepped out of in an hour even when I had no other plans. It's awful.

  • Fake accents dripping into Hindi as well - Arjun Rampal could have been replaced with a cactus with zero change in the quality of cast (really) - Again, atrociously incorrect fake accents - Dialogues so cheesy and dumb that you will get tired rolling your eyes.

  • Arjun Rampal's character was trying to be as witty as Dr. House failing miserably.

  • I can't say how bad the story was because, like I said, I left the cinema after an hour of sheer torture.

Take your money and meticulously tear it into 100 small pieces. You'll get more mental stimulation from that than watching this movie.

Must Watch
pritamde1214 February 2015
The movie was such a drag. The songs jump right in the middle of a story which is struggling to continue for 3 hours.

I watched Arjun Rampal swimming shirtless more times than i wanted to. I watched the characters change costumes three times in less than ten minutes. I watched the characters roam about without any particular goals.

The character Roy is portrayed as a mastermind thief. Yet i saw nothing of his skills that made him to his title.

This movie concentrates on the looks of the Arjun Rampal, Jacqueline Fernandez who speaks Hindi with an accent but can sing chittiyaan kalaiyaan in Punjabi fluently and change her clothes hundred times and that useless crap of a thief(The world famous thief).

You must watch this movie and suffer like i did.

Its not Roy....Its Dist-ROY
mahant25113 February 2015
Why did I watched Roy... mostly because of my trust on Ranbeer Kappor... But then I asked myself what is he doing in such a movie. Then I asked what is anybody doing in this movie... and then I asked what am I doing in the theatare. But in spite of repeated temptations to leave the theatare, I survived till the end, mainly because I hoped something will happen. but that's the trouble. Nothing at all happens in the movie. From start to end, in most of the scenes there is only one character on screen, generally smoking or drinking. the dialogues and monologues(there are a lot of monologues) are not natural. A lot of scenes, if not all, are unnecessary. there are hardly 4-5 characters in the movie (including both real and imaginary characters), out of which 2 are played by Jacklin. First Jacklin is the sri lankan beauty we know ( that came as a relief) other Jacklin is wearing some kind of makeup which is making her look like a vampire. Songs are good... but their placement is so abrupt in the two and a half hour movie , and you are so bored with the movie that you can hardly enjoy them. Locations are good, but monotonous dark and gloomy picturization spoils them too. I can understand that the director did not wanted to make a Bollywood masala movie, but trust me, this movie is not above Masala, This is way below Masala. Conclusion: Don't watch this movie even if you are paid for it.

a highly under rated movie... deserves more credit
nikhil-bhanu16 May 2015
Roy is a movie which talks about the working of a creative mind. writer and director kabir grewal played by Arjun ram pal writes a script for his movie guns part 3 while shooting his film. the movie is moving at the right pace and was not at all boring. Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal are complemented well by Jacqueline Fernandez, the movie is very different from mainstream Bollywood and in future is probably going to be a milestone in Bollywood. the film gives you stints of what you would expect from someone like a David Fincher. I feel that Vikramjit malik should have probably not added those item numbers just to add the Bollywood touch and should have gone all out with his different approach in making films. Nevertheless brilliant movie!. 10/10

Roy - A Pretty Good Film
jayakumar-di16 February 2015
Roy is a pretty good film that is to be viewed outside the common Hindi flicks. It is beautifully crafted with two parallel themes - the life and relations of a film maker interwoven nicely with that of the movie he creates. Ranbir appearing as the main character of the movie within, keeps his cool performance depicting that of a movie character within the film and Jacquline makes the double role - that of a film maker love of Arjun and the lead lady character in the movie within. This is a movie that demands your brain to be involved while watching it - but if you do so it is one real piece of art work. But then if you want to watch the movie just for some dance noise and other paraphernalia, yes this is not for you - you can join the gang of all reviewers trying to kill this good film.

Extremely boring. Avoid at any costs!
sumedh-dorwat13 February 2015
I had many expectations from this film, 'Roy'. But it proved to be an extremely senseless, illogical, third class, and a boring film.

There is lack of comedy, suspense, thrill and a proper script & story which was expected to take a good grip. The entire film is filled with useless and non-sense dialogues. All audience in the hall were wondering like when something will 'happen' in this movie. The part before interval contained only dialogues n dialogues....though some of the songs were nice.

You better avoid this film at any costs. If you want to watch this movie, watch it only and only if you can't get good sleep at home, or your air conditioner is damaged! You may give it a try if you want but at your own risk!

Ouch ! Worst movie I ever seen (actually I left theater in middle )
rajbharatraj15 August 2016
IF YOU WANT TO SEE HOW WORST MOVIES ARE LOOK LIKE... THAN WATCH IT

Its not a movie. Its look like a dream of another person and you are forced to watch it on the screen but you don't know that person, you don't know the characters of the dream even if you try to understand what is going on you cant. I went to theater and what i see after half an hour most of the people left the theater and remaining one talking to each other and chatting, drinking eating snakes and there was atmosphere like a marriage party and no one looking at the screen. I survived for around 70 minutes but after that... it was too much..and i left ....:) so i think everybody should try to watch this movie for taking worst movies experience. LOL

Nothing romantic or thrilling in it!
manojmastiff17 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Terrible idea to cast Arjun Rampal, he is just not convincing in the role of a filmmaker!

Leading lady Jacqueline Fernandez looks gorgeous but that we knew even before Roy released, the poor writing doesn't give her anything to do.

The best talent of the lot Ranbir Kapoor is wasted in this film and how! A star his level better have a good reason to do Roy!

The best part of the film is the music but the songs come so abruptly and are totally out of place for anyone to enjoy.

Roy is a painful trudge through acres of pretentious hollowness.

Neither the two dapper leading actors nor an eager-to-please heroine in a double role can rescue the film from its inexorable downhill trundle.

It deals with writing and painting on one level, and with philandering and thievery on the other.

disaster of 2015
abhishekmahajan00722 September 2015
What were they trying to make. People were thinking something exciting will happen till the last moment , I had hope give me something even a single point why this movie has been made, but no it wasted my time my money and moved me to a depressing state. I had to go to a doctor to overcome the depression this movie has done to me. Now I am alright and writing this review as people of Indian cinema should make good movies or stop calling your self creative person, as you have done enough copying, itna cheating to koi exam main bhi nahi karta hai. I read some reviews and people were calling Roy as a classy movie, so i just have one answer go and see real classy movies like Godfather, Shawshank where there happened something in the story.

Why doesn't IMDb has an option of a 0 , if there was this movie deserved it. Seriously the worst movie I've watched , you'll bang your head in theaters walls , its so boring an no story , just trying to make it glamorous but completely failed , the only thing positive was the songs this movie had , the cast , but there were countless negatives , no story , boring , and not understandable , there's a love triangle between the three protagonists and at the end we come to know that there's no ranbir in real life , so basically a complete waste of time and money , i would definitely not recommend this movie to you . i don't know why arjun , jacqueline and ranbir accepted the role for this film , such a flop . don't see it !!!!! its better to sit at home doing nothing rather watch this film , so long yet so boring . they could have made such a fab film but failed .

RakanMalhotra13 February 2015
The trailer and the movie are not at all related. The people behind this story and the whole movie are rubbish. I felt like I watched a western boring movie.

I felt bad going on the first day. Please don't watch this movie, it is a boring and senseless one!!

1 - Trailer : Good 2 - Story : Awful 3 - Plot : Awful

Miserable attempt or failed attempt I would say.

Not a good movie to start the year with!!

Ranbir is my fav actor that's why I went to watch the movie.

In short a sad experience

Miss this one.Watch it if you want but only for Arjun Rampal because Ranbir Kapoor failed in acting too
n_dhruv13 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Most awaited movie of 2015 with such a beautiful songs has nothing interesting in story.Debutant director Vikramjit Singh has written story, screenplay.Direction of the movie is nice but story as well as screenplay both are below average.

Ranbir Kapoor as Roy is good.He is not as good as he was in his previous movies(except Besharam). His attitude is appreciable but in dialog delivery he failed in so many scenes.Arjun Rampal as Kabir Grewal is surprisingly good in every sequences and in some scenes he is better than Ranbir.Jacqueline Fernandez as Ayesha(a film maker) is better than as Tia(actress in Kabir's movie).Anupam Kher's cameo is good.

Story starts with Kabir Grewal(Arjun Rampal)'s interview for his upcoming movie Guns Part III.Kabir Grewal is known for his movies which he makes on the life of thief called Roy.He heard in news that someone has stole the painting from Malasiya. So he decided to make his new movie on that robbery. He met Ayesha(Jacqueline Farnandez),a film maker there.Tia is actor in female in Kabir's movie opposite Roy(Ranbir Kapoor) is lookalike Ayesha.Because of spreading rumors about Kabir and Ayesha,Ayesha decided to keep distance from him.Kabir stops his movie.Accidentally Kabir's father (Anupam Kher) died.Kabir can't accept that and he wants to move on from all the things so he decides to start movie again. And this last part where the trilogy ends becomes the highest grosser in opening weekend. He went back to Ayesha to have her back.

Music of the movie is already #1 in chart buster especially the whistle in Tu Hai Ki Nahi.Director and editor has superb job in songs sequences.

Overall, just love the songs of the movie because movie has nothing more appreciable.Ranbir disappointed and Arjun stood ahead.I'll go with 1.5/10

Don't watch it!
harnoor_51713 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Warning- Spoiler Alert! You might get a small idea about the story if you read this.

The only thing to you will be delighted to see in this movie is Cars, Bikes, Awesome locations and Jacqueline (she looks gorgeous)! The story is damn confusing! The movie has two tracks running parallel to each other. Thank God they are inter-related to some extent! But..the plot of the movie is so confusing that it keeps making you think that what the hell is going! The movie just comprises random scenes compiled all together to form a baseless movie! The genre of the movie is really not thriller! Its just a Romantic-Drama. Ranbir Kapoor has nothing much to do with the real lives of Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline! Well both the stories told in the movie are so confusing that you would want to leave the theater much before the movie reaches its climax! This movie is a time waste and a waste of money! It is better to be avoided!

This is my first movie review on any forum. First, I would like to thank all the Dim wits, who have given this movie negative publicity through negative review. Had it not been for them, i would have never got down to actually writing this review.

The movie, technically, is almost flawless, so engrossing that had it any flaws I did not notice.

It sets the mood from the word go and sticks with it. The editing is clever ( where most people are getting confused ). The screen play ( narrative is quite unusual for bollywood) Casting could not have been more perfect. Background Music score is very good. stays with the story - sets the mood.

For Mature audiences who love good cinema.

If you are looking for a POPCORN thriller this is definitely not the movie for you...definitely not for teeny boppers or Romantic comedy buffs.

Excellent dialogues , excellent Music ( Songs)

I was going to give it an 8 rating but then decided on 9 after realizing this is vikramjits Directorial debut.

Good Luck to Vikram....already looking out for your next venture.

Watched ten minutes and fell asleep thrice
nodee5 April 2015
We tried watching the first 10 minutes.

Time slowed down to the point where it started going backwards.

The most interesting part of the movie was the beginning where they show anti-smoking adverts.

The only great part of the movie was seeing Cyrus after so long! He is fat! Lose some weight man!

We have to write 10 lines? Not worth it.

Feeling so sad. First NH10, now this.

It's not a good night.

Something's really wrong with Bollywood.

I liked that other guy's comment where he compares Arjun Rampal to a cactus. I totally see that.

Even the lunar eclipse yesterday had more action and thrill than this movie.

My cat can act better than them actors.

Roy... A boring yet confusing love story
thfebruaryphotography14 February 2015
Having watched Roy in the cinema yesterday on my birthday, was not worth paying to watch at all. The movie was very slow and boring as it had started, you could have fallen asleep within the first five minutes as it was dis-interesting.

The title of the movie Roy was very confusing throughout the film, as it was not understandable to what the plot of the film was. I was very disappointed at the actor's roles in this movie, as they generally all play very good characters in films, but sadly this did not work for them.

However, I would comment on the fact that the songs within the movie were very nice to hear and listen to, especially the lovely Ankit Tiwari producing and singing a few of the songs.

Overall, my recommendation to people who would like to go and see this movie is not to go and spend huge amounts at the cinema to watch this movie as it lacked to grab the audience's attention, instead just wait till it comes out on DVD, even though I personally would not recommend that.
