The greatest episode
coppernickels-685262 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Out of everything I've watched in my entire life this has got be the best thing I've ever seen. To start off it shows sir pentious being I the comical side charter as usual but when he see the devastating things that will happen he attempts to stop it even if he whould die and he did which made me feel actually sad I've never felt much when come to fictional characters but they way they built him up was exactly for this moment. Then there's also the alstor fight that was keeping you on your seat and the plot twist of alstor getting hurt was a real surprise to me. Then there is the adam kill which in my opinion was just hilarious instead "time for a long monolog" he just straight up gets stabbed. Rhen there's the ending where it shows all the characters happily helping and not being there old selves of being a porn star, a depressed bartender. Now being new and changing for beter and finally the cliff hanger so much to get you hooked for the next season but not where to die to wait a long time. But somthing I have noticed is alastor getting and becoming beter but then there's these moments just like the ending song where he shows another side of him one that doesn't change and wishes for freedom. And Lilith being in heaven have made a deal and the best of all sir pentious going to heaven now being redeemed showing he isnt dead which was kinda heart warming.

This deserves 10/10 from me.

Excellent finale
richard-350022 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
An excellent finale to close out the first season. The pacing is excellent which is the main constraint this series has dealt with only 8 episodes imo.

I hope it'll just continue to climb from here. Loved Emily's squeak in contrast to seras jaw dropping. Pretty much made me lose it though it's also fitting that a snake reaches heaven first.

Nice throwbacks in the songs. Satisfying well animated fights even though that's not the focus of this series. Overall a great show and a great finale. Can't wait to see how they flesh out Vox and alastor next season which looks like it'll be the focus. Alastor can't wait either by the looks of things.

Gr8 season finale!
eryknieeryk6 February 2024
Didn't feel like a season finale. Felt like the ending to the greatest R-rated Disney movie. Literally: the great songs, striking animation, conclusion to character arcs as well as making room for new ones (including a teased character finally appearing). Outstanding work by all the VAs as usual, especially Erika, Alex and Jessica. Though the plot of the first season reached a conclusion, the story is just getting started, like Lucifer said. Overall: awesome job, Viv, you're an inspiration to countless people right now. Keep going. On a closing note, I wonder what the future holds for the hotel, Alastor's schemes and Lute's revenge on Charlie and Vaggie. I suppose no other way to find out but wait... or cryogenically freeze myself until the day of the premiere. Guess which one I'm doing.

What can I say
ciolekmango2 February 2024
Its a thrilling conclusion with fun songs, great character moments, and a massive battle. What more is there to say. Really though, this was probably the best episode of the first season for me. Not only is there a super fun battle, but we finally get reveals on certain characters that we've been waiting on for years. While there is certainly still much mystery abound, the reveals in this episode make me eager to follow up on them in a second season(I'm glad we are getting one). This episode also just does a great job of incorporating all the characters. From the hotel residents, to Heaven, to Alastor, and the others in Hell, everyone gets their time to shine. A great episode, and a great way to finish off season 1.

Could've been perfect
lexarixvii3 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Strong episode overall, but definitely would've benefited from being two episodes- that would allow more time for the battle and the resolution (instead of squishing it all into one musical number). I did like the idea of showing Vox et al watching the battle, but it did end up hurting the flow of the action a bit.

The first musical number COULD have been good, but I swear it was literally sung over a Casio demo track?? Once I noticed that, it was super distracting and made it sound cheap (not unlike the intro and ending song). The second number was a fairly typical musical resolution/reprise song, so nothing much to say there.

SPOILER PARTS

Charlie's Dad (because he's a weak "Lucifer" but a good character) really came into his own and was enjoyable to watch- although him showing up was a little too "Avengers."

I am very glad to see that Adam is, in fact, person shaped and is just wearing horns and a mask. It still doesn't make sense that he was an angel, but whatever.

I don't know WHAT I expected the Lilith reveal to be, but "she sold out all of hell to relax in heaven" was not it. That was a twist, for sure.

That's a Wrap!
robbysheilds3 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There is so much that's good about this finale, my God! The characters all get moments to shine, especially Sir Pentious. I love how he acts as a war general here, taking on a bit of a leading role. And his death was really shocking in just how quick, yet impactful it was.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. The pre-war moments are great, especially "More Than Anything's" reprise, a perfect moment between Charlie and Vaggue, especially after everything that's happened.

And the animation during the fight is awesome. Sure, there were some times where it felt like things were moving around too quickly, but other than that, the fight was awesome, especially when Charlie powers up and Lucifer gets involved. Let's not forget Vaggie Vs Lute, which is a good fight in of itself and a nice pay-off to Vaggie's backstory and is also animated well.

Adam as a villain here is great. He's got a lot of power to go with his crass, making for a formidable threat. And his final moments are just... pitiful, as he tries to keep his clearly damaged ego afloat. It's also funny how Niffty, the character who got the least amount of development here, was the one to kill him, calling back to the beginning of the episode. It's a nice moment.

And then finally, the finale song, which is a very fun reprise of "Happy Day in Hell," a perfect way to bookend Hazbin Hotel's first season. And the cherry on top is finding out where Lillith has been all this time, getting me excited for Season 2!

The only real complaint I have is that the Vees don't really do much here, meaning you could cut them out and miss nothing. At least, that would be the case if them seeing Alastor running wasn't portrayed as a plot point. Even with that, you could cut their peanut gallery commentary out and miss nothing.

Overall, though, this was a fantastic way to end a pretty great season! Here's to Season 2, and the beginnings of a potential Indie Animation Renaissance!

I great first season finale!!!
seeda-890743 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Plot: I thought it felt a little rushed but overall it was pretty good some stuff fell fast-paced but you kinda get used to it after a while.

They could have shown us just a little bit more in the training because that felt too rushed also the extermination was in half a year three months to a month to a day I thought that was pretty silly but it's alright.

Characters: Sir Pentious his character was terrible and deserved a better death but the ending makes up for it in my opinion. He's going to heaven due to him doing the ultimate sacrifice was really smart I liked that.

Charlie was fine she's the main character her character ark is just fine I don't have an issue with it.

Veggie I guess it was fine as well and I guess I can understand her not killing Adams's little girlfriend or whatever she is because Adams's girlfriend spared her as well.

Angle Dust and Husk I was smiling with joy like a little child because I thought they were cute I feel happy for them both of them have grown so much as characters.

Adam's "L bozo skill issue" His face mask slowly breaking in the fight was pretty cool to see and his wanting to be the next Jesus was pretty interesting.

Lucifer umm he felt kinda annoying because he was so happy? His voice doesn't fit the scene while fighting and doesn't really work well but that just might be me.

Adams's little girlfriend is low-key kinda bad but anyway, her tearing her arm off expecting but still cool to see I want to know her deal with Lucifer's ex-wife. I think idk im pretty sure she's gonna be a real character next season. Also now that she's single maybe she could get with me...??? Plz notice me, baby. <3

I like this show it is so vibrant colorful and really well put the writing is great even the curses don't really work well and are overused. It might have some plot holes but it's the first season and twenty-five minutes per episode is not enough they need more time so I expect stuff like that to be resolved in season two. This is an amazing show and I want it to grow.

I liked it, but if I hadn't spent years waiting for it I don't think I'd care much
JQPbannana55783 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of my problems with this episode are the fault of the previous episodes, or lack thereof. My biggest complaint with the show as a whole has been how insanely quick the pacing is, I love individual moments but a lot of the time those moments feel incredibly unearned, and the best example of that is the finale song.

The Vee's are celebrating a power vacuum caused by the extermination, but what power vacuum? The extermination seems to have been focussed entirely on the hotel, no overlords died, the closest thing was Alastor who doesn't appear to have any power outside his raw magic, and he comes back immediately so their part of the song feels super hollow.

Alastor's section is really cool, but seeing him walk around his destroyed radio tower would've been so much more effective if we'd seen him in it more than once.

I don't think either of these things are scathing issues, but I can't help but notice a lot of little things that really dampen my enjoyment of the episode. I wouldn't go as far to say they ruin the show because the animation, music and performances all knocked it out of the park, everyone involved with this was skilled and passionate, and out their all into this, and it shows, but it was a little disappointing, and I wish they had more episodes to give this crew the time they deserved to tell this story.

One star for the epic animated fight scenes
windywingpony2 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This was the worst episode so far. There are so many ploholes. So many rushed character developments. No time for breath. I literally winked and missed a major character death, that left me so confused.

In episode 7 Charlie said they have a month to prepare for the extermination. And episode 8 just starts with it. Like what?? It's so dumb.

The previous episode was about Charlie collecting troops for the fight, as well as Vaggie. Which was just so rushed. How did she win everyone over in Cannibal Town so quickly with a song? What was the thing that changed Camilla's mind to agree to the fight?

Why did the angel's in Heaven let Adam do the extermination? I thought Emily was against it. She just let it go? I though she was above Adam.

The relationships between the characters are so underdeveloped. With such little screentime. When Charlie got emotional and said it was good knowing them, my eyes were dry. We never see Charlie hanging out with them. The only relationship that is kind of beliavable is Angel and Husk. Which I'm not a fan of, becouse I know they are trying to make a ship out of them. He's 70! Angel is like 30 or something.

Charlie and Alastor's relationship is weird. I still don't know what's Alastor's deal. Does he want to take over Hell? Why didn't he think of getting an angelic weapon while fighting against Adam. I thought he was supposed to be the smart one. It's sad freaking Nifty killed him instead of Alastor.

I also don't care for Charlie and Vaggie's relationship. Vaggie's backstory didn't have any buildup. And their conflict got solved quickly too, but I guess that's ok.

Also Vaggie not killing Luthe was so dumb. There was no reason to keep her alive. Charlie is kind of dumb too, wanting to give Adam mercy when he is the main problem Hell's been exterminated many times.

Sir Pentitious's death is so confusing. Did he have something with Cherri bomb? Cause I didn't catch any chemistry between them. His death was also so anti-climactic, he got such little screentime that he haven't earned my sypmathy yet. Just like any of the characters. And how did he end up in Heaven?

I'm so grossed out by Valentino and Vox's relationship. They just weren't funny at all.

The main extermination plot is over. It was so anti-climactic. The songs were random.

The fighting scenes were animated just fine. That's the only best thing about it. The animation. And Lucifer's comeback was fine too.

Not excited for season 2. It's not that the characters are unlikable, it's just there are too many and you can't have an arch for each one in such little time span. I'll continue watching just becouse I'm curious about Angel Dust.

We waited 4 years for this???
tiredhoodies3 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Even with two other animation studios and commissioning spindlehorse to fully animate the flat camera shots, boring climax, and break-neck pacing leaves me wishing I was watching any other show..... I was left speechless over the fact that it ended with such a whimper then the all out last shot of our band of misfits finally together to make a stand only to fall flat realizing their chemistry only works in small doses together rather then the series actually sparing the focus of their individual quirks as characters they all mesh together and melt into a terrible amalgamation of festering sinners that don't even remmeber the point of their hotel was redemption until last second??? Waste of time for a first season in my opinion,:/
