Amazing directing! Made a huge statement in Shelton's self development.
The scene with Sheldon and Amy playing D&D intimately, is beautiful. It's showing the development of Sheldon's character as he finds his own way to push himself through a new and uncomfortable experience. He cares for Amy, despite his emotionally naive way with words. Similar scenarios have occurred before, where Sheldon learns to be in a relationship. Similar previous episodes were typically more comedic rather than the main focus being on making a statement in Shelton's character development. This episode on particular guided us through his transition into a new 'level' in his relationship with Amy, through his own quirky way,
It further shows his independence at problem solving. Compared to Season 7 episode 1, where Sheldon runs to Penny as he has a nightmare, choosing to seek help or comfort instead of dealing with his emotional shake up independently.
Furthermore, in the same episode, Leonard is away and Sheldon seeks comfort in Penny, however when confronted with her pressure to admit to actually missing his best friend, he refused to agree.
However, starting from this particular episode, Sheldon is growing to express his feelings. Another step is expression of Penny hurting his feelings in the following episodes.
