I kinda disagree with the film's portrayal of the ghostly spirit. According to one critique, "This Madam Koi Koi got the story all wrong! First of all, not only one person had nightmares of her. She also wasn't always under a cursed tree; she terrorized students in their dorm rooms, where they always huddled together once they heard the koi koi sound." This perspective suggests some discrepancies with the traditional lore and leaves room for interpretation.
Madam Koi Koi is known by several different names: "Everybody is saying Madam Koi Koi, some say Lady Koi Koi, in my boarding school it's Miss Koi Koi. It was mad scary! I hated being in school during public holidays and mid-term breaks. I ran home at every tiny chance I got. The movie brought back memories.
