The production values are off, mostly bad lighting. Most of the props are garbage, literally. The acting is wooden and the script is cheesy, in a bad way. The visual effects are straight from "Visual Effects for Dummies".

Not even worth a watch, it stinks.

The End Hotel
nogodnomasters20 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In the near future memories can be stored, bought, and sold. A company called Mems is the only corporation licensed to do the transactions. A group called Synapse goes after those that deal on the black market, but it too has its crooked dealers. Nathan (Adam G. Simon) works for Synapse. He gets the memories of Frank (Joshua Alba) a man he was working with. Now everyone is after him because they want his memories. Nathan suddenly thinks he is Frank and most of the film is Adam Simon walking around dazed and confused which made he feel the same way about the film. Good idea. Poorly executed.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

You Know it Sucks When....
reellycynical8 September 2021
The ONLY review on the movie is from one person......... and they rate it 10 STARS.

Really? 10 Stars? So it's like, one of the best movies ever made? Is that what you are saying? Unbelievable.

Lemme break it down for you. Any movie with Sophina Brown in it is AUTOMATICALLY on my bottom-feeder movie list. She is terrible. She's pretty, but that's it. I have no idea why anyone would cast her in an action movie - or really any movie.

Second - this concept - taking people's memories and being able to revisit, download and "relive" them is tired, old, boring and has been done 1,000 times. It is far from novel and interesting.

1 Star. I would give 0 Stars, but the rating system won't allow it.

Fun and Inventive Indie
samuellaskey10 September 2021
Really inventive and shows what you can do on a low budget. I was more entertained than I am with most big budget Hollywood thrillers.

Smart and action packed!
susierob-6261312 September 2021
I watched the film on Amazon the other night. Loved the action and the acting. You have to pay attention to follow the story like a puzzle. I also liked the leads Sophina Brown, Henry Simmons and Adam G. Simon. Sophina Brown is magnetic and even though he's only in the movie for a few scenes I love watching Henry Simmons. He was great on Agents of Shield too. This was the first time I had seen Adam G. Simon but I thought he was great and made a really good action hero.

This concept would be great as a full on TV series! I feel like it's a whole world that could exist within its self and really explore some cool ideas!

Synapse made me watch and think "what if".
rcooksey200313 September 2021
This movie kept me focused and glued to Synapse so I wouldn't get lost with the theme of it. I enjoy movies like this that gets you thinking.

Charley Boon was amazing! The way he used his eyes and facial expressions for acting was definitely great! He played his role perfectly.

A twist filled mystery with action
SteelMagnolia19 September 2021
This movie was recommended to me this week online so I gave it a chance. I'm glad I did! It jumps around in time but the action is fun and there's a scene near the beginning that made me jump and came as a surprise. I loved the fast pace and the actors did a great job. If you like mysteries with science fiction and action give it a chance!

Pretty Impressive Indy Sci-fi
moviecriticMC9 September 2021
A friend recommended this movie to me because I'm a sci-fi nut. It's a solid Indy Sci-fi action film! I genuinely enjoyed watching the chaos unravel and was pleasantly surprised when it all made sense in the end. It's fast paced and feels more relevant today more than ever. Almost a little too real! I definitely would recommend the watch!!!!

Nifty sci-fi/action thriller
Woodyanders15 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In the future other people's memories become the new drugs. Addicted memory dealer Nathan (well played by Adam G. Simon, who also wrote the compact script) finds himself relentlessly pursued by agents who'll do whatever it takes to suppress the secrets locked in Nathan's mind.

Director Kenton Clark relates the absorbing story at a brisk pace, adroitly crafts an intriguing aura of mystery, maintains a tough gritty tone throughout, stages the plentiful exciting action with flair and skill, and further spruces things up with a flashy dynamic style. Sophina Brown lends sturdy support as the helpful Aamina. A cool little flick.

Loved the fast action
doctorgarvey11 September 2021
I thought it was just another dirty cop movie at first, but I had my surround sound on and it became a great movie!!! Glad I watched it. It keeps you thinking and guessing. Good concept for sci-fi. I loved the change of scene, angles, and views. The movie gets a 9 for me because it pulls you in 1/3 the way through and builds excitement. Well done!!!

A cerebral masterpiece!
derekmhutchins10 September 2021
Considering the budget for this film was 11,000, this film is a modern cerebral masterpiece. It definitely takes. Inspiration from Inception and Bourne Identity. The acting is great and there are some great shots here! Synapse is to Ken Clark what El Mariachi is to Robert Rodriguez. Sign me up for the sequel.

You Know It's Sad When...
Rickinator699 September 2021
I only got through part of it. I don't care if something's a small budget indie production or whatever the case might be; this was just super cheesy. After which there were two reviews at the time. One raved and gave it a 10 while the other was entitled "You Know it Sucks When..." and gave it a 1. I loved reellycynical's take. I also noticed this had a 7 when I checked it out, knowing high numbers early on are usually the product of fake ratings. I wasn't surprised when it was a turd.

The really sad part is a day later there are several more rave reviews, all of them obvious fakes. It's sad that these things are done-even though they all couldn't be anymore fake looking and obvious once you've read a few-and it's too bad that the site has no control of it, although I don't know what they could do. I've noticed it happening for some time now. I'm guessing this will end up about a 4.5 when everything evens out.

You fake ratings and reviews people are just piling more sad on top of sad. And why? If they influence someone to watch, the truth will just end up being found anyway. Something not being great is one thing, but this trend has just been very, very sad.

Edit: Thanks for all the thumbs downs but the rating is now at 3.3.

An Independent Action-Thriller with a "Big Studio" Shine
bfwfndp19 September 2021
I'm always disappointed when independent films are given poor ratings for simply being independent. It begs the question if people who don't understand what it takes to produce a complete film should be able to decide whether it was executed successfully or not.

Having an appreciation of how much work can go into even the most conservative projects, I can honestly say SYNAPSE was a tremendous success. Writer and lead actor Adam Simon crafted a story that cleverly redressed the idea of identity with a healthy dose of high adrenaline action not unlike TOTAL RECALL, while also shining a metaphorical spotlight on state sponsored addiction. The opioid crisis that's raging in America today, and the resultant tragedy and corruption that comes with it is laid bare in the form of "Mems" and the shady corporation "Synapse", that peddles them to the public at large.

There are moments in the story where you can tell Simon had developed a rich backstory behind the elements that make up the world of SYNAPSE that realistically can't all be developed in ninety minutes. I'm sure were it up to it's creators this would not be the only film in the SYNAPSE universe.

Simon's story was delivered successfully by the almost solitary efforts of director Kenlon Clark. It's apparent very early on that capturing action and laying it out in a way that keeps viewers riveted to their screens is in this director's DNA. It's clear that he's studied the work of action icons like Michael Bay and Robert Rodriguez. This film is benefited immensely by Clark's previous body of work and skills he's developed along the way.

Based on the quality of presentation alone I think most movie goers would be hard pressed to identify this as an independent film at all. In my opinion Kenlon Clark has the knowledge and skills to rival any of his contemporaries working in big-budget Hollywood today. He's the one who gives this independent crime thriller it's "Big Sudio" polish and shine. The result is a great movie at an unbelievable savings to us the movie loving community. We need to support these films more now than ever because it's through projects like this that the quality and unique talents of future Hollywood are discovered.

Now all they need to do is get that distribution deal to include the rest of us Canadian fans!

Complex story telling!
mmmcanthandleit12313 September 2021
It's definitely for the thinkers out there! Gives me Momento vibes! If you can't hang in there to figure everything out or if you get lost in movies too easily, this isn't for you! But if you like a challenge with great reward and payoff, this movie is for you!!!

Mind-blowing Psychological Thriller with Ample Action
KevinHartsRedheadedStepSon16 September 2021
This is a strangely nuanced little movie that I wonder if it will ever find it's true audience. It's on some streaming services and I decided to watch it with my woman this weekend. I did read some of the reviews and was surprised to see such division between fans and those who don't like this movie.

I will admit I was a but lost for the first 2/3 of the movie, but the action and pacing kept me involved. I like movies with a lot of gunplay and a few jokes along the way like John Woo movies or nearly every Statham movie. But then: BOOM! Things start coming together at the end of the second act and things start making a ton of sense.

I know this isn't the first movie or story that delves into the idea of reality vs. The perception of reality (eg. The Matrix (just the first one, lol), Inception, What Dreams May Come and others), but I can't say I've found something like this before. It's kind of dark and sometimes a little startling, but has mainstream sensibilities. Hard to explain.

Sure, not everything in it is "perfect," but what indie movie, let alone a big budget movie is? I actually went back and watched it a second time a day later and the story has so many weird little details that get dropped along the way, I'll probably need rent it again in a few weeks to try and understand it better. It kind of sticks to you.

Overall though, I can't comprehend the hate from other reviewers on here. Perhaps they know and dislike the filmmaker or some of the actors in this movie? Sour grapes? Who knows?

For me, I really just enjoyed it and am glad I found it.
