Penny Dreadful: Séance (2014)
Why is this rated higher than episode one?
The first episode had a strong narrative, fairly easy to follow, with characters with goals. This one felt like a hodgepodge of character introductions that lacked a cohesive narrative and failed to really move the story forwards. Aside from a killer twist ending (pun intended), and meeting some characters, we're pretty much right where we were at the beginning of last episode.
Synapse (2021)
A cerebral masterpiece!
Considering the budget for this film was 11,000, this film is a modern cerebral masterpiece. It definitely takes. Inspiration from Inception and Bourne Identity. The acting is great and there are some great shots here! Synapse is to Ken Clark what El Mariachi is to Robert Rodriguez. Sign me up for the sequel.
The Green Knight (2021)
Surreal. Epic. Beautiful. NOT an action film
Lotta haters here saying they walked out or felt deceived. Listen, I'll admit this film isn't for everyone. It's a film for those who appreciate cinema, epic poems from hundreds of years ago, and stories that are ambiguous and make you think. This is not for people expecting game of thrones or the next marvel movie. Personally, this is one of my new favorite films, and no, I was not paid to write this, and no, I'm not related to anyone in the cast. It's pretty art house and if you're a fan of other things A24 put out, I couldn't recommend this film more.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Can we all find some middle ground?
I can understand why some people would dislike this episode. The writers did hint at Danaerys' dark side throughout the series, but not enough, I think, that her turn satisfies. If you're a true Dany fan, it's gotta be heartbreaking. I never really liked her because I thought she was mean (go figure). But honestly people, did you think this was going to have a happy ending? If so, you haven't been paying attention. True, the writers may have changed some things, their story or writing may not be as good as GRRM's, but the dude's had years to produce his ending and has procrastinated, so they did the best they could. Let's look on the bright side - production and acting were fantastic!! And this episode was drastically better than the episode prior, which had cringeworthy writing. This felt like classic thrones. Sure, Jaime's end was dissapointing, but in a way, true to his character, poetic, and symmetrical. I hope Jon finds a way to take Dany down!!
Pottersville (2017)
CUTE AND WHIMSICAL
This might be my new favorite Christmas movie. The best Bigfoot Christmas movie yet! If you're looking for a light, amusing movie and you're a fan of Bigfoot, this is the film for you!
