Too early to tell
trudjoh1 October 2023
In the past (based on previous reviews) contestants were evaluated almost immediately by viewers based on their evaluation of muscle mass and perceived mental capacity. Therefore the lower reviews this season. We as "watchers" have got to get out of the first impression mode. The contestants will take care of negativity. But they cannot take ownership of elimination when one contestant quit before the first "fireside chat" even finished. If she was pause to attend based on plane tickets and hotel rooms etc then the production staff should get their money back. How could this wimp pass evaluation? I do wonder how much longer Survivor will exist given the makeup of more recent contestants. Lack of mental and physical fortitude.

Remember the good old days of Survivor when
terrylarosa28 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There were several attractive women and guys who at least looked in shape?? Yeah well those days are long gone since those aforementioned are the extreme minority with this group. Are the pickings this slim? Now you have guys crying after an elimination two days into the season, can't climb a ladder that an octogenarian would have no problem with and a woman who wanted to be eliminated in the first episode. You would think people would prepare at least somewhat. No group without a flint has even attempted to start a fire ( at least not that we saw). I don't think I've ever seen a more pathetic group of people on this show. It's going to be a hard watch until they've eliminated at least half this group. Props to the female lawyer who wisely decided not to air that info and the young guy who found a clue and chose not to go blabbing it out immediately to half his tribe right away ( at least for now ). They need to start casting better again.

I am 5 minutes in and I already dislike nearly every contestant.

Hopefully, this turns around drastically.

We have already had the first tears of the season (three minutes in), this is not trending well.

What are the producers thinking? Does anyone believe the tears are real? Does anyone enjoy seeing contestants crying throughout the entire season?

This show used to be great. We used to have very attractive contestants who had pleasant demeanors and whom did not cry every few scenes.

The challenges used to be incredibly difficult and contestants used to actually lose weight and actually need to "Survive".

I do not know how much I can take of this.

Last season wasnt too bad, but 43 was horrible.

We need a revamp/back to the roots campaign.

best premiere of new era - but you might hate it.

Warning: Spoilers
Two words - Gabon. Energy.

If you're a super fan like I am, this is what it is. I see the Twitterverse saying this is a season full of highly in likable people and terrible casting.

Highly unlikeable people? Oh, definitely.

Terrible casting? I disagree.

Survivor is TELEVISION. Yeah, it's a grueling, tough competition, but what makes good TV is having characters you despise, and characters you root for.

There is also HORRIBLE gameplay so far and I love every second of it. Why have a season completely stacked with gamebody strategy heads, when you can have a mean spirited strategically horrible player who throws someone under the bus on the starting mat? I love it.

All I'm saying is give it a chance. 41-44 was good, but this has the chance to get Survivor back to it's sketchy, weird roots. I'm here for it.

Survivor 40, the last decent Survivor
getbacks29 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We've known for the last x amount of years CBS has an agenda to open up a wider range of participants and be diverse, basically to people who would never consider to be on such a show. The result? There are people that should never been chosen to be on that show. Case in point Survivor 45's premiere.

One individual wants to quit and eventually does while another person is completely unfit to not only compete in challenges but work around camp.

The two sets of individuals that competed on the beach to gain an advantage by carrying logs were so unfit they couldn't do it. Like not even close.

As a suggestion to CBS, if you are to have so many unfit/unathletic people on your show perhaps lesson the difficulty of the challenges. Some of the challenges could include a 10 yd race. That's it, run 10 yards, get first place and you win. Perhaps a game of Boccie Ball or Croquet. Carrying an egg on a spoon a la the Office, Beach Day.

CBS must get thousands upon thousands of applications to be on that show, but yet in the city that I live in I can probably round up some unfit disinteresting people in one afternoon to be on a Survivor show. Does CBS purposely choose these types "I'm really intelligent" or "I'm a lawyer" btw, how many lawyers are on this year?🤔 plus the terribly unfit, people having panic attacks, whiney voices and as unattractive as sin or just plain quitters.

Long gone are the days of Boston Rob, Tony, Bobby Jon, Parvatti, John Cochran, Sandra, Natalie.

Last year I didn't watch the finale' as I totally knew who was going to win...likely one of the most unfit person ever on Survivor but he fit CBS's agenda.

I doubt CBS Survivor is winning any new fans.

This episode is being judged unfairly
ddempseylewis29 September 2023
As another survivor season premieres, I have to say, it is such an enjoyment to watch. The buffs look spectacular and the challenges are quite intense. Plus we already have some cunning people like Austin searching for idols. I don't understand why people are bashing this episode. Do you guys want the entire cast to be all muscular and manipulative jerks? We are letting ordinary people get a chance to be on this show and live their dreams. The first immunity challenge showed tenacity and it marks the first time buffs were used as a tool for a challenge. The Lulu tribe is very funny and Belo has proven themselves to Be very wrong. Give this season a chance please: these contestants just got to play.

Dumb Dumb Dumb
kbetch3 October 2023
Were there only 18 people that tried out for this season? Because I'm not sure they could possibly find worse people for this show. I can't wait for the next season of Australian Survivor, because this trash just keeps getting worse every season. People wanting to go home on day 1 because they are hungry or tired is just sad. Whoever is responsible for picking the contestants needs to be fired, because they are absolutely horrible at their job. I don't think I can watch any more of this season, it's really that bad. Easily the worst premiere this show has ever had!!!

Didn't think it could get worse, but they are doing it!!!

Contestant Selection Fails Again
ilsmght28 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Last season was exceptional. Carson, Jam Jam, Caroline. It was an outlier. The previous several seasons fizzled with terrible contestants. The people selecting contestants for this show need to be fired (The Tribe has spoken), I mean that with sincere honesty. Anybody with at least one working eyeball would see yellow team has the greatest disadvantage in challenges (who balanced these teams?). 90 long minutes later, we see this is true.

I'm genuinely amazed, as a side note, how arrogant the show-runners have become in the way they don't listen to their fans. Give us 39 days, nobody wants 90 minute episodes. Laziness rules the day (why do more when you can get away with LESS?). A real shame. That no team completed the brain and brawn challenge tells us it wasn't balanced correctly. Nearly all of yellow team wanted to quit when there are thousands of individuals clambering to be on this show.

I'm sorry to be negative, but there's very little positive points to mention. Absolutely NOTHING is more important than selecting bubbly and engaging contestants each season, taking precedence over twists and all other aspects of the show. If you pick wet blankets, can you be surprised when you get a snooze-fest?

Pathetic
stevenkongju28 September 2023
It is only the first episode, but with a few notable exceptions, it is a pathetic group of self absorbed, whiney, contestants who believe in conspiracies and astrology. And if I hear one more, "I love you", between people who have known each other for 2 days, I am gonna vomit. And why in the first episode do the people have to gush like they are contestants on The Price is Right?

In addition, can we please get some of the old challenges back. How many puzzles do we need to see. Bring back the eating challenges. If you are really going to survive on an island, you may actually have to eat something a little gross.

Negativity Galore
tmmanole28 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Probably worse than the Survivor 41 premiere. There are a surprising amount of unlikeable and incompetent characters that unfortunately overshadow the people who are fun to watch. From an overly-negative Emily, to a girl who only ever talks about astrology, to a woman WHO QUITS DAY 3, casting has made some absolutely dreadful choices. I mean, at least Survivor 41 showcased interesting characters from the beginning, while 45 focuses too much on the negatives. I believe the Lulu tribe is destined to be one of the worst in the history of Survivor, and I wouldn't be surprised if Sean, Kaleb and Sabiyah ride it out till the end much like last season's Tika 3 (although I'm not entirely sure they will). Overall, not a premiere that makes you wish for more.

Casting, casting, casting....smh
grlym-4684929 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Live review

Wow...this is a rough start.

At first, the cast opening statements on the boats let me think, ok. Maybe this cast will be better than so many of the past few years...nope.

First off, I had to lower the volume because the audio was so much octave squeezing voices. Even from many of the guys. It was ear piercing. And there seemed to be so many smart professionals, but it as hard to see that in this episode. So much awkwardness and oddities. It just made me realize Australian Survivor is still the Lings of casting and production. It is the benchmark.

And yet again, a cast that is made up of so many physically weak people. It's like they picked the most hyper and eccentric people.

The crazy secret advantages are back. Hopefully this doesn't lead to a thousand idols again or convenient production idols for some players to advance over others. Or just plain luck. Outwit and outplay seems to have been replaced by luck in survivor for years.

And the tribe names seem lame. More like southern nicknames rather than some exotic names representative of their locale in Fiji.

The yellow tribe looks completely inept. Especially in challenges. I wonder if they will eliminate them all the way off or reshuffle to save these weak players with a magic idol or something. I hope not. The last few years it felt they manufactured winners more than people became winners by the 3 tenants of the game.

Casting is getting worse
brentcarter-573-45117830 September 2023
CBS said they were going to change up casting. They did and it's only getting worse. This season is the worst casting so far. The days of epic battles against strong competitors is over. Now it's all about checking boxes. I can't believe how unbelievably weak these players are. CBS had to know these contestants weren't going to make it. It's almost as. If they picked them specifically to be push overs or quitters so their predetermined winners can win.

Each season is starting to become so predictable. The past three or four I can tell right away who CBS has picked to win and each time I'm right. Unless something crazy happens I've already predicted who CBS picked to be the winner.

Casting?
Itarille2229 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched Survivor since it started in 2000. Each season brings unique characters. For the most part the casting of the survivors has been well done. Well........Season 45 the casting of the survivors is very questionable. As we may say "it was phoned in" The 2 which really stand out, in a bad way are/were on the LuLu team. One already went home. To quote the title of the episode "We Can Do Hard Thing" no they can't and they never should have they been allowed on the show.

With the new 1.5 hour format for the season, I a long long time "Survivor" fan, am questioning do I want to invest 1.5 hours now to watch Season 45???? First impressions are not in Survivor's favor. I rated this 4 because of the 2 players. Other than those 2 players everything seems to be at least worth an 8 stars or better. Great challenge! Love the twist with the camp supplies challenge. Being a long time fan I will continue to watch, but I highly doubt the "We Can do Hard Things" player left will make it beyond the next episode. My bets this player will take themselves out of the game, be injured, or just voted out period. There as in past seasons be very unlikely deep soul searching by this person and learn how to "do hard things". I could be wrong but as they say first impressions are everthing!

Pathetic casting
jenkinsd0925 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Whoever cast these players needs to be fired.

From the jump, Emily is grasping at straws to slander Bruce who legitimately is going into the game just as blind as the rest of them as he didn't even get past the opening challenge on his first attempt at the game.

Then you see some of the most pathetic performances and attitudes from Hannah and Brandon who seem to be put on a hand tailored terrible tribe full of physically inept players.

Lulu has to be the most unbearable tribe since the Fang tribe in Gabon. Between Brandon, Hannah, and Emily this tribe is just an eye roll of casting mistakes. On top of it all, the most unbearable of the 3, Emily, gets through 1st tribal by the skin of her teeth simply because Hannah was the worst casting choice Survivor could have made and quit immediately, a legitimate spot wasted. So many better, more physical adept players were passed on for a lazy, anxious, ungrateful survivor casting choice.

Hard to see this season getting any better if these pathetic players continue to stick around.

Terrible! Horrible casting! Quiter! Limp contestants!
passamazonassessments15 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Everyone loves one another! Why?! How?! You do not know each other. It's such a pathetic advertisement of the game of Survivor, having so many fringe people on a season, who fake love one another.

What a bunch of whiners and quitters as well.

Some advice for the 'super fans', if you are not physically fit, do not apply! Nobody cares how much of a 'super fan' or survivor nerd you are, if you cannot even climb a ladder or if you fall down a slide and land as if you have died, stay home, watch TV and continue to be the self glorified 'super fan' you are. I'm glad that Jeff told that man with zero muscles, to get up because he asked to be there. A disabled lady from a previous season was in better shape than him. That's incredibly embarrassing.

Casting director, you failed. Stop trying to make everyone happy.

Wowza, Emily is hell of annoying.

Trash contestants
drako-927902 November 2023
Wow majority of this cast is a joke.. soft cast members this season or majority of them.. all they so far have done is cry and complain. Survivor needs to do a physical before bringing them on it's pathetic how bad the cast members are and how annoying they are to even watch. What else can I say to talk about these people on this show this season so far besides they are just soft soft individuals. Maybe they just invited people that are really emotional rather then have anything physical to bring to the table. I watched every season and survivor is really becoming a let down with the new seasons.
