Nice set up
nickybk-9809529 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of my favourite shows and it is getting better and better. This is a nice episode that is setting up Walker's past life and pre Ranger career as a marine. So Greyflag is now clearly a mission to permantly oust all of Walker's old command unit and it is now getting a bit gritty. The angle is nice and the whole family feel is good as it is showing cracks in the family and friendships just like we all have in real life. The only thing that is leeting the show down a little is Padelecki's stuttering smiley acting thing. He did it alot in Supernatural and I thought it was a character thing but it seems to be how he acts. It's just a little annoying but other than that, great episode in a great show.

Tense Set up to Gray Flag
Sarah42327 January 2023
Last episode I wondered if Captain James (Coby Bell) wasn't acting a little "extra" when dealing with Trey (Jeff Pierre) This episode takes things up a notch.

Do I think this is to skillfully set Trey up as a mole to infiltrate the bad guys undercover? Yes. Yes, I do.

Just as Cordell (Jared Padalecki) has trouble knowing who to trust and who's a mole, so would Captain James as command.

These scenes were well-written, well played, and with a great music track amping the tension as we're left with a "cliff hanger" of sorts at the end.

---

Also like last ep, the Julia (Anna Enger Ritch) subplot is hooking me.

A journalist in the mix is a great concept. She has sources beyond the normal ones Rangers would have. And it's another world viewpoint to explore, beyond the "official proof" one inherent to legal circles.

In addition, she's both competent and very good looking, but with the slight edge of suspicion that might let the writers slow down on how fast her relationship with Cordell moves, if it even does.

Fierce.

---

I'm more suspicious of Kevin (Jake Abel) and how he fits in to Gray Flag.

Best guess given what he said to Cassie is that he's Coop's son. And that the awkwardness is that he knows who Cordell is without having told him.

However, right now Keven seems set up as a mole from GF, deeply embedded in politics.

There's just the right amount of uncertainty when it comes to this character. (What if he was only told his father died and is an unreliable narrator? On the other hand, we could have a great scene where an undercover Trey saves Cassie and next season is finally ready to move on from Micki)

---

Finally in overview, kudos as always for anything involving Bonham and Abeline. (Mitch Pileggi, Molly Hagan)

I agree with Abeline that this is the worst possible time to push Cordell out. It serves no purpose that he be forced to "mature" ("set his house in order") at this time.

If the writers want him to be a stereotypical grown up with his own place, they might remember that many families have separate houses on the same land holding. He can (and they do) all the things other mature singles/couples/families do.

If it's to move him to a location that's easier, plot wise, for the bad guys to hit, then it's such an awkward "string pull" that I object.

Cordell only moved in a couple years ago, gave up his house due to his parent's encouragement, has had nothing but grief since.

He's looking at an empty nest coming up, so now he'll be buying with a kid only to have to then downsize?

Still, Pileggi sells it. His Bonham is worried. He's reactive to impending age/legacy. He's protecting Abeline.

And Hagan does the same, arguing back and drawing him out.

How gorgeous they look, nattering away by firelight.

I've said before, and I'll say again, it's a master stroke to place these two actors opposite one another. And a miracle that it's CW's doing.

---

By the way, as always, I am amazed at how well Cordell (Padalecki) shows the continuing struggle he's having in life.

Not just at home.

Julia's presence, though wonderful, is also mildly triggering.

Still he keeps going strong. So thankful the writers have decided to lean into his competence, too.

---

Overall, a really strong episode of television.

Tightly paced. Well directed. Moves the story forward.

Walker remains a really good watch.

Season 3 is Not the Walker I Want to Watch!
nightringer-7684029 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So far,. I watch Walker because of Jared's past Supernatural show.

Don't get me wrong, Season 1 & 2 were okay for passing time and there were hints of Walker Texas Ranger they are trying to stamp as their own.

But Season 3 is a disaster. Very strong dramatic story of 3 generations of children bickering. However, that's not what I called modern day cowboy Walker.

To make things worse, the spin off Walker Independence is actually better because it is a straight cowboy drama mystery.

My apology for the fans of Walker who thinks Walker is better because the rating shows the increase of positive rating, but personally, I'm off the Walker series.
