Delightfully deranged Christmas special
Mr-Fusion15 May 2017
'Minstrel Krampus' is part musical and part Christmas satire; and it works on both fronts. Steve's a self-centered snot and needs to be taught a serious lesson. Enter Krampus, the yin to Santa's yang, professional punisher of wayward jerkass kids. He comes across as a riff on Oogie Boogie from "the Nightmare Before Christmas", and his song is y personal favorite.

The special reaches another level entirely when Stan recruits Santa to rescue Steve (*in a cleaver - and nasty - assault on the castle). Both Krampus and Kris Kringle are large enough personalities to carry this thing, but it's Stand's dad I actually wanted to see more of. Jack's just as dim as Stan but slightly more demented. The guy's a scream.

That was an almost great musical episode! I am still worried about the message.

Warning: Spoilers
Danny Glover did a great job as a special guest Krampus. Most of the songs in this episode were good. It wasn't as bad as I remember since it had a good idea to show the more cynical side of the winter holidays, with Santa spoiling naughty children. However, it is far from perfect, because it really should not have taught the implied moral that abusing naughty children makes them nice. Also, I could really do without all of Krampus's animate inanimate objects having blood in them and Santa Claus turning from a vengeful antagonist who wanted Krampus back to a corrupt jerk who was going to kill Stan for stopping him from making money from naughty children who buy the most gifts.

This episode is just wonderful! Specially because you have Charles Bradley singing!! He did a marvelous job as Krampus! Love when they sing in AD and this episode is a delight.

It's one of the best episodes.

I watch this every year around Christmas and every time I laugh as hard as I did the first time watching it. It's a musical episode, and it's sublime. Charles Bradley is just amazing as a singing Krampus. And as a European, I remain impressed at the telling of Krampus himself. They did a great job explaining it and were pretty correct! Bonus points for "Sheila." If you know, you know.
