Gooey and eventless, not unpleasant nonetheless
Bogey-19837 February 2023
While the story is full of clichés (pardon the pun), Ma, I Love You keeps you awake for most of its running time. A soap opera-like plot that's over-running, over-sentimental and where you won't be surprised by any scene that unrolls in front of your eyes as you can easily anticipate each branch of the scenario. So in the end, you have to rely on the acting from the two main actresses, Ong Ai Leng and Siow Li Xua who are really holding the movie on their shoulders with their absorbing acting (but don't count on the two French actors, Mei Ling's neighbour and the language school director, played by Gregory Henno who both cannot act for a bit! Very cringe!). The non-existent direction won't disturb you either, it's pleasant to the eye and you can check the movie out once it'll be out on Astro or Netflix, in the comfort of your home.
