An Okay Timewaster
mitchell595426 April 2023
So, I finally saw this movie and I enjoyed it about as much as I expected. I certainly didn't hate it, but I didn't think it was great either. It was meh, just like the original RWBYxJustice League comic. Would I recommend this? To hardcore RWBY fans, sure. In fact, RWBY fans should watch and support this so we can hopefully get Volume 10. But I don't think DC fans will get much out of this, unless you're a big Jessica Cruz fan. Batman fans especially should stay away from this, as they do his character quite dirty here.

This crossover in and of itself I always questioned; "Why is this a thing?" Pairing RWBY with the JL always seemed like a weird idea to me. I'm a big DC fan, and I'm a fan of RWBY too, but the two never seemed compatible to me. I felt that about the comic, and even more so about this. When I think about what franchises would make cool crossovers with RWBY, I think Final Fantasy 7. The world of RWBY has always reminded me a lot of FF7, ad we already had a Yang vs. Tifa death battle way back. Other crossovers I wouldn't mind seeing are RWBYxDestiny or RWBYxHonkai Impact. Those would fit with RWBY more than this.

And if this film needed to happen, why couldn't they just adapt the comic they made. I didn't think the comic was great either, but I honestly prefer that over this. I liked the story more, and the comic had a better villain. I mean Starro isn't exactly an A-lister, but he's at least a somewhat iconic villain that I recognize. Here we have some villain I've never even heard of before, and I've watched & read a lot of DC stuff. Changing the story drastically from the comic also brings up a couple plot holes too. Batman having powers makes no sense in this movie the way it did in the comic. Though, there is one change I'm glad they made.

Easily the best thing about this movie is Jessica Cruz. I'll even go as far as to say this is my favorite version of this character. I love her design, and her arc was easily the best of the film. So, I'm grateful to this movie for that at least. As for the designs for the rest of the JL; I really like Vixen's look. The designs for Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and the Flash are...there. They're okay, I guess.

The designs for Batman and Superman are lame. They were lame in the comic, and they're lame here. What's more, this Batman does not feel like Batman at all. And the guy they got to voice him is just horrid. He sounds like he's phoning in his lines while drunk. As I said, hardcore Batman fans should stay away from this.

It was a bit cool seeing some of Vale/Beacon in the Maya engine, with RWBY in their original attire. I guess I don't mind Superman helping RWBY to have confidence as a leader. It fits since this does take place during the Atlas arc. Though, I wish Ruby had a bit more to do in the finale. Way to go writers. Way to keep with that RWBY tradition. Well, at least I have V9.

Shallow, hollow, annoying
dylankh-0499925 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
RWBY x JL is, on surface, a fanfic meeting of two very different teams. Unfortunately it's the kind of fanfic we all laugh at. JL characters are written either completely wrong or with a fingernail deep understanding of that character (Batman in particular suffers from the writers just fundamentally misunderstanding how Batman functions) and RWBY characters are written as either jackasses, are written boring, or have regressed SEVERELY (Jaune and Ruby regress a lot in this from the previous Volumes). All of this seemingly justified by everyone losing their memory, but that just isn't enough to justify the melodrama and bad character writing.

Unfortunately there aren't enough cool action scenes to simply ignore these aspects. Thankfully the fighting is, for the most part, pretty good. However the final fight drags way too long and doesn't show anything we haven't already seen in the movie.

The animation of the show is uniquely RWBY and that's not necessarily a good thing. RWBY's art style is oft sited as a reason people don't watch the show, so while it makes since for what is most likely going to be the biggest piece of RWBY media produced (in the sense that it's going to reach audiences that have probably never even heard of the show via JL fans) to give an authentic RWBY experience, the animation style is a far-cry from the usual DC movie and is going to be a turn-off for some.

And, of course, the movie suffers from being a "part 1". Leaving the plot half resolved is a major turn-off for me and this movie does exactly that. While there is a victory at the end of the film, it's set up for a bigger mystery for part 2 and it's not particularly intriguing set-up for anyone that hasn't seen RWBY (and even then it's not all that interesting because of when it's revealed to be taking place).

Overall, RWBY x JL just isn't good. I spent half the time during non-fighting scenes wanting to skip it and get to the fights, then the final fight had my eyes glazing over. I really don't understand what happened here. This movie is coming off the heels of 2 of RWBY's best volumes (8-9) and another volume that, while having issues, is still pretty good (7), yet is somehow the worst thing RWBY has done since Volume 5 and 6 (and it's worse than both those). I do not recommend you buy this movie.

Rwby and JL two names i wasnt expecting seeing toghether.this movie felt like i was watching some fanfic wrote by some 16 year old in his basement.

The action scenes are awful the rwby characters are written as either idiots or absolutly boring the voice acting was regular i felt like the justice league were talikng to npc's instead of people

and not talking about that cringe scene of nora flirting with cyborg with a jealous ren

and also the fact that this was written by the person who ruined robin's character and the young justice series

and also some innecesary bumblebee because why not.

Worst iv'e seen for many years.
sketaful3 November 2023
The voice acting is terrible and the grafics is what I'd expect for some cheap morning kids show in the beginning of 2k. And I mean kids up to 0-5, the rest prob find this awful as well.

The story is.... Uhm... I already used terrible so lets call it horrible, cause it is. They have no clue what they're doing the untalented crew behind the writing. Probably same people doing the grafics.

Just avoid this and hope it disapears from everyone's memory. I can't think of anyone wanting to remeber something like this lowcost, lazy, unintelligently and stupid uhm... I don't even want to call it a movie.. just pure garbage.

Made for RWBY fans
rwambolt7 May 2023
If you're a fan of Justice League, don't bother, unless you also like, or even follow RWBY. It's basically like RWBY bribed DC to get their name thrown in with Justice League so they can get some attention or maybe new fans. But if you don't like RWBY or even know what it is just skip this. It's about 90% RWBY and about 10% justice league, and not even a good version of them. They are teenagers, with lame powers, obviously nerfed so they wouldn't outshine the Yu-Gi-Oh! Rip off anime characters that are called RWBY. Which even the name is lame. It's the first initials of 4 of the characters, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang. How clever... sigh. I got about 2/3rds of the way through and had completely lost interest. It was like watching someone else play a final fantasy game while you sit there. I'm waiting for Ash Ketchum to get his VS justice league movie.

They didn't even try.

Do you like how compassionate and kind Superman is?

Do you like how intelligent, bold, stoic, dramatic, intimidating but kind Batman is?

Do you like how headstrong Diana is, how she is skeptical, admirable, smart?

Do you like the early volumes of RWBY and want a cool throwback to the tone of those early volumes and the characters?

Get ready. BECAUSE THIS MOVIE DELIVERS NONE OF THAT.

Superman is now a dorky insecure shy guy who doesn't quite understand anything.

Batman is also a nervous sad boy.

Diana is as complex as cardboard. Every other character serve to explain the plot through exposition.

There is nothing complex in this movie. It does not aim to be a respectful tribute to RWBY or DC fans.

Your favorite characters on both sides do not get time to express themselves apart from trying to pick a part a mystery that is revealed through exposition and endless scenes of ''Why are we here guys?''

The writing is as complex and thought provoking as a first draft essay done for homework in middle school. This is not a good movie. It is not a fun one you can laugh at with friends. It just is bland, unimaginative and rushed.

The whole thing is atrocious ... from the animation to the voice acting (and here I'm talking mostly about the RWBY cast). It's so sad that they let Roster Teeth butcher such a beloved franchise .... it's a big fat NO from me.

I mean who had this uninspired idea to do such crossover or at least they should've let people behind DC movies do all the work not those from Roster Teeth .... they ruined it, the animation is beyond cheap and the script is so out of character and feels like there are some OC characters and not characters from DC.

It's a total waste of one's time so if you can avoid it do it , at all cost .... I couldn't last more than 10 minutes in it because of how bad it is.

It's pretty good actually
agn-1047528 April 2023
I had no knowledge of RWBY, only in DC, so I went in relatively blind. I didn't expect any deep storytelling, themes etc.. Just a fun time. And that's what I got.

I liked most of the different character interactions (in particular Jess and Jaune), the action scenes were great, and the mystery for how the Justice League seemingly arrived at Remnant was handled really well.

I also really liked most of the new designs for the Justice League members to make them fit in the RWBY world. Giving Batman batwings seemed as an odd choice, but it worked.

The movie ends with bit of a cliffhanger (its called Part One.. duh), but I'm definitely looking forward to Part Two.

unless you like rwby, don't bother
jeffjaynye1 May 2023
Really did not know what to expect, but one thing that stood out was the bad animation. Seemed to be rushed or not finished as far as the animation went. Probably not done at a studio that has much experience . Not sure what would make someone think this collaboration was a good idea. Unless you are a rwby fan, you'll probably not be interested in this. Voice acting of the league characters was not great by any means, not going to bother if there is a part two. I enjoy all the dc animated features but not this one. Seems to be more oriented towards a pre-teen specific rwby crowd. Has not much in the way of draws for any DC fan.

They nailed it
koji-3102529 April 2023
As a fan of both RWBY and the Justice League i was both excited and hesitant to watch it, cause i knew that crossovers could often be hit or miss. However, after watching the movie, I was both glad and shocked at how well it turned out.

First and foremost, the action sequences were absolutely stunning. And it was amazing to see the RWBY characters fighting alongside members of the Justice League. The fight scenes were fast-paced, exciting, and truly showcased the unique abilities of each character.

However, the movie was not without its flaws. One major issue I had with the movie was its length. Clocking in at just over an hour, the movie felt rushed and could have benefited from an extra 15-20 minutes of runtime. This would have allowed for more character development and a deeper exploration of the story.

Another issue I had with the movie was the weak introduction. The first few minutes of the movie felt disjointed and confusing, with a sudden jump from one scene to another without much explanation. While the story eventually came together, a stronger and more coherent introduction would have helped to set the stage for the rest of the movie. The "i dont remember" choice may have been better without it. But it fitted the 1h 20 time.

Despite these flaws, I still thoroughly enjoyed the crossover movie. It was a unique and exciting blend of two beloved series, and I was impressed by how well the characters and storylines were integrated. The movie did justice to both series and did not feel like a cheap cash grab, which can often be the case with crossovers.

In conclusion, I would rate the RWBY and Justice League crossover movie a 6 out of 10. While it was a great experience for fans of both series, it could have been even better with a longer runtime and a stronger introduction. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable and action-packed ride that was well worth the watch for fans of either series.

But the integration? 10/10.

Terrible

Warning: Spoilers
The justice league characters were out of place in this movie and only cyborg and vixen looked good. They butchered Batman's character and instead of him being the worlds best detective he just reacts to what happens and becomes reliant on his new powers. Superman's powers only randomly for sake of the plot and wonder woman's can turn on and off but also randomly turn on. Somehow even though the flash has outrun death Batman can stop him running by punching him. You can tell who ever wrote this was just trying to have their rwby x Justice League fan fiction become true. I see no need for 2 parts for this movie. I hope DC will work on more original projects than crossovers.

I loved it! Please watch rwby volume 7 before this movie!
jaxonajones25 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was amazing! It very much feels like a mix of DC animated series and RWBY. I love how it makes you wonder what happened. What version of the justice league it is and what volume of RWBY do they use.

I love the way they did our justice league team. Feels a lot like the DC animated series which is some of the best renditions of the characters. I know some DC fans will be butt hurt about how they are portrayed. This is the best renditions from DC in a while as far as cinema.

I loved they're designs my favorite is flash who wares a very Impulse style outfit which made me wonder weather it was bary or bart.

Loved how it outlined character flaws of the justice league team and how because they are in this situation it brings out this somewhat hidden side.

I absolutely adored how they made both batman and vixen faunus its so fitting. How they changed their powers into semblances and made them feel more RWBY-like.

I loved how they built upon the character development set in volume 6-7. The end makes it seem like somewhere in volume 7.

The fact they used Kilgore as the villain is perfect. The fact they used Kilgore as a bad villain that couldn't have done it alone is hilarious.

In conclusion it feels like a perfect mix of both worlds. It very much feels like a DC centered crossover. The only problem I really have is DC fans are going to watch this without knowing RWBY and getting spoilers so if they try and get into rwby later important things will have been spoiled.

I also see that a lot of people won't be happy about how some characters are done. I can see that that's how crossovers work is you get slightly different characters then normal but I see that as a good thing. There is also the fact on both sides there are "fans" who try and gatekeep how characters should be. I highly suggest this movie.

felt like a fan fiction but not in a bad way
erosdil2 May 2023
JL/Rwby crossover felt like a fan fiction and I mean that in the absolute best way possible as a fan of both franchises and of crossover/iseki fish out of water stories this seemed tailor made for my tastes, however it was a mixed bag

The Good As always the fights completely pop off visual spectacle as we've come to expect from rwby

A decent mystery with the characters working together to figure things out

Wonder Woman felt the most in character of the JL and I liked her dynamic with Blake and Yang

Jaunes struggle with his memories anout Pyrrha and dynamic with Jessica was easily the highlight of the film they make great foils for each other being the ones who always feel like there worthless

The best depiction of Jessica Cruz outside the comics, this really felt like her, not the stupid activist character from DCSG( rant for another day) or the version from Justice league fatel five that was too brooding and sarcastic and got over her fear way to quickly for the narrative to work properly

Funny lampshading of each others worlds

The Bad The character designs of the Justice League are not good they are too messy and would benefit from not changing as much from there original designs

Making the JL into teenages for forced conflict was stupid, having them be in a mentor relationship with the rwby characters while still not having as much of their powers or knowing about the rwby world would have been a fine enough power struggle conflict

I know they did it for brand recognition but the younger heroes in dc are right there and It would have been cool to see rwby with the Titans or Young Justice without some de-aging shenanigans

Batman as a teenager still feels super OOC, like distractedly so (though this may be because of the voice actor) I had to keep reminding myself it wasn't Dick Grayson or one of the robins who would have been a much better fit for this role

The villain was such a deep cut that even me as an avid dc fan didn't recognize them

This is definitely more of a rwby film than a dc film, you will be very lost if you haven't watched rwby, If this is a part 1 of a larger story I want rwby to do to the dc world.

This was just a terrible eyesore...
paul_haakonsen26 July 2023
Right, well I did not know about this DC animated movie titled "Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part One" prior to stumbling upon it by sheer, random luck. And I opted to sit down and watch it, since I had the free time. Usually I am not overly keen on superhero things, so I wasn't exactly thrilled to find this particular animated movie.

First of all, the title of the movie, "Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part One", is just not one that has any appeal to it whatsoever. It feels cluttered, clumbsy and just too long. And already there was the first anchor around the ankles of the movie.

The next anchor was the art style used. It looked like unfinished graphics for a 1990s computer game. It was seriously lacking textures and layers, and looked too plain and unfinished. Plus the fact that it was reminiscent of something trying to imitate Anime, but not fully delving into the Japanese art style. And those things just killed off "Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part One" for me. And I ended up giving up on it not even a quarter-way through the ordeal.

I don't even know what RWBY is, and thus can't claim that this aspect of this crossover DC animated movie had any appeal either.

I can't say whether or not the storyline in "Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part One" was good, because I just simply hadn't seen enough to form an opinon on it. But the art style in this 2023 animated movie from writer Meghan Fitzmartin and director Kerry Shawcross just didn't appeal to me in any way.

This 2023 animated movie receives a generous two out of ten stars from me, as I am not interested in watching something that looks like a discarded 1990s computer game that didn't make the cut because of subpar graphics.

Just 'Dumb' League X Something RWBY (Whatever that is. Who cares?)
shrivastavshubhanshu26 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It felt like the Superheroes we knew - Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, etc., were replaced by some Millennial teens who wants to play these characters but has no scriptwriter to write their lines.

The movie gets super annoying super soon. The animation feels like its made for toddlers. The justice league characters are just so badly made, it felt like the one who wrote the story had no idea about who batman, Superman or Wonder woman and others are. It seemed he just created the characters after reading 2 lines about them from Wikipedia.

For example, batman who saw his parents murdered and spent his teenage to adulthood getting trained in combat, can he ever make a snide comment about someone's parents? Well he does in the first 20 seconds of his appearance in the movie. For the rest he is so jovial and cheerful that it just gets annoying.

One might be able to understand how bad the movie is from the fact that I am writing this review while the movie is playing in front of me right now and I am only 37 mins in. After I finish this review, I am going to stop the movie and never watch it again.

Why do they Destroy what we love...
harryhog-336694 August 2023
RWBY is a show that I watched when it started, and I saw way it grew on me, this show have one of the best character creation and back stories to those characters. Each character is blend with the main story perfectly. The way the creator tell us the story of the land is epic, in one direction we see how the characters grow with the main story and in other direction we here the story of the land how it all start and who is behind it how is responsible.

When I watch RWBY the story takes me to their world I feel like I'm in different world entirely. This world suppose to be like a dream some place that I can think of a place I'm not related a place I can't reach or make a connection... by connecting that world to Justice League they took that away from me.

I Completely REGRET the decision I took to watch this movie.

IF YOU LOVE RWBY LIKE I DO DONT WATCH THIS MOVIE....!

You won't last 2 minutes as a DC fan
veinctor12 January 2024
Here's all the cringy tropes of the first 2 minutes:

1) Super heroes travel to another universe / multiverse for crossover action.

2) They have no memory 3) Their powers are weaker without explanation 4) They are 16 year old now for whatever reason! And magically they have fitting clothes for that world.

5) They team up instantly with good guys 6) The good guys fight like videogame characters 7) The bad guys are generic CG monsters that lose easily 8) Over the top and annoying 3D cel-shaded anime characters

Need to say more? This product is pure sewer sludge for brainless kids. I know nothing about RWBY, but as a DC fan this is a disgusting betrayal that makes me sick.

quanthompson647789093225 April 2023
To be completely honest, I was only this for the justice league, but I enjoyed it. Didn't really care for some of the dynamics besides Clark/Ruby, Bruce/Weiss, and Jessica/Jaune (even if the last one kinda redid her anxiety story). Yang practically doesn't exist in the WW/Blake (which I also wasn't too fond of, but I didn't hate) dynamic besides reminding you that she and Blake are together (or like each other).

Cyborg/Nora/Ren was kinda unlikeable for me. I also didn't get the whole "batman would perfect remnant" thing even after the reasoning behind it.

What else did I like? The justice league designs were good and I got used to Jessica and Barry. Overall, I am surprised that I enjoyed it since I normally don't like the writer of this movie. I probably won't rewatch it, but I'll watch the next one because of the JL.

Boring
lotusdisciples1 December 2023
A two-dimensional plot, poor characterisation and even poorer screen time per character due to a large roster, this is more of a how not to make a crossover than anything worth watching.

Not sure if it's a lack of writer talent or the fact that the two titles have very little of substance actually in common, let alone the differing demographic of people even interested.

When you can't write anything but combat and some characters are not true to who they are, you're shooting yourself in the foot. Not sure why this was worth not one, but two movies, but in my opinion unless you're a hardcore fan of both at the same time, you'll hardly feel satisfied watching this at all.

I didn't even know why until now after seeing this movie, my gosh the way rwby was in everything i tend to understand the reason behind this construct this show made a name for it self and am digging it, now more than ever i getting started with rwby don't even want to start on the characters and lead to the execution of how well the digital series took the internet by Storm this is only the beginning and as for our day to day heroes the combo was to boost the awareness of rwby and for me it really did work going on about this would result to nothing let's see what happens next. But it's all good though.

Mostly for RWBY fans but welcome DC!
redjohn-1960029 April 2023
Watched this film on Blu-Ray at home but I wish it was in theaters or at least streaming someday so more people can see it. For those current with RWBY, you will notice quickly that things are amiss in Remnant, and not just because the JL shows up as teens and fellow students! Unraveling how these worlds collided and what is *really* going on is the heart of this movie. Some of the mystery is revealed by flashbacks experienced by both our Beacon alumni AND the JL newbies...our JL friends remember their adult lives back on Earth but in hazy terms....clearly something happened to send them here but what and by whom? Our Remnant natives also have jarring flashbacks to the events of earlier volumes that are at wide variance with the Remnant they face before them. It's a wild ride with plenty of Grimm action. Batman gets to put his detective skills to good use in at least partly solving this complex mystery! I heartily recommend this movie and look forward to the whodunit of Part 2.

Better than it should be
ArgonReviews4 September 2023
This is, looked at just as a RWBY adventure, a solidly above average RWBY adventure. It's also 'interesting' to see the DC heroes thrown into a RWBY universe, but it feels very odd given I wanna say DC characters get turned into kids every 3-4 years so this shouldn't feel new to them.

I went into this with very low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. The plot makes no sense, but it does capture the spirit and style of older RWBy fight scenes in a way that some of the more recent seasons don't. Every character gets a chance to showcase their abilities and team up with someone. The Weiss/Batman scenes were jarringly out of character for Batman, but a 'interesting' take on the character nonetheless. Really though, the Superman/Ruby scenes showed a genuine contrast to her style of leadership that would have been nice to see in the main series.

Bottom line, if you're a fan of the older rwby seasons, this is pretty much for you.

Good Time Killer For Something That Sounds Like Fanfiction
jeremycrimsonfox9 August 2023
In a myterious twist of fate, Superman wakes up in the world of Remnant, setting of the series RWBY, finding his trademark tights are replaced with new clothes and he is age regressed to a teenager. He helps Ruby and Yang, finding out his powers his limited in Remnant. As the superheroes and huntsmen are suffering from amnesia as their memories are jumbled, and finding out something is not right. Superman and Team RWBY, joined by other Justice League members and even other huntsmen, to find out the truth.

Yeah, this is the first part of the film (with the second part being released on Halloween), but already, this movie feels like it was originally intended to be fanficiton meant to posted on a fanfiction site by a RWBY staffer who is a DC Superheroes fan. However, it is not a completely bad film. It actually redesigns the superheroes of the DC universe to fit into the RWBY universe (Batman now has batwings and the power to see through walls, Vixen gets the best redesign, complete with a tail based on her hero name). However, with the redesigns and the age regression, there are going to be character derailments, as it seems to be straying far from the Justice League X RWBY comic miniseries it is based on (in the comics, the DC Superheroes were portayed as residents of Remnant, while this movie does the cliche of sending them to another dimension), and some of the DC characters seem to not act like their usual selves (like Cyborg being useless and asking Nora for help, which starts a rivalry with Ren to the point where acts like a jerk to Superman and Ruby, and Green Lantern Jessica Cruz gets the worst of it, as she is a nervous wrecks who needs her ring as it is her strength). At least the voice acting is very good.

Sadly, being a part one, the movie suffers from being short (being only 80 minutes long), and some of the plot does drag out, but it is an okay film. I do plan to get part 2 to review, and if you are interested in superhero crossovers like this, I suggest waiting for part 2 to release or maybe wait to see if Warner Bros. Will release a version combining the two parts into one movie.

Clumsy but fun
a_sad_cow23 October 2023
As a huge fan of both franchises, I was super psyched that their was enough mutual respect to collaborate. Sadly we rehashed a bunch of introductions in a rather clunky fashion, with some reimagined teenage versions of the Justice League with alternate powers for some reason. Clearly they were having fun experimenting with different styles, camera angles, etc. Very little character development, even for the protagonists, and the antagonist is still much of a mystery.

If you don't like RWBY, this isn't for you. If you've never tried RWBY, knock out at least the first few seasons first, as this isn't RWBY at its best either. If you've only seen RWBY and not the Justice League, what rock have you been living under?

Overall fun and worth my time as a fan.

JLxRWBY review (spoilers)
jcqbxsmz26 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
JLxRWBY is an interesting movie, we can see two worlds completely different from each other but our heroes have the same struggles even when their reality are totally different. Also is refreshing for someone that had only watched super heroes movies seen their struggle and leave the heroic façade for once.

Jessica is one of my favorites I think the representation matters and it was handle with care.

Animation 10/10 Fights 10/10 Story 9/10 I would have loved to be a little bit longer!

Waiting for part 2

PD: For DC fans if you want to have more context on Team RWBY and Co. You should watch the series on crunchyroll.
