Sex & Nudity

  • Ted is seen in only underwear in an extended scene.
  • Ted peeps in at two guys getting a girl drunk. Her bare legs and panties are seen. Ted sneaks in and tries to strangle her but is caught by the girl's boyfriend, who assumes that Ted was groping her.

Violence & Gore

  • Ted collects the mutilated bodies of roadkill in a bucket, and soon begins purposely getting wild animals killed so he can observe the deaths.
  • Ted pulls out his own fingernails, blood is seen.
  • A man gets a concussion when he becomes an unintentional victim of Ted's experiments.
  • Ted's father shoots a deer to put it out of its misery after it is hit by a U-Haul. The father then removes the deer's innards (not shown onscreen) and Ted watches in fascination.
  • Ted goes swimming with a little boy his own age who s staying with his parents at the motel. Ted playfully holds the child's head underwater but nearly drowns him by mistake. The boy runs away in fear.
  • A man reveals that he has a box of his wife's ashes, and it's implied that he's a murderous arsonist responsible for his wife's death and the death of several people in an electrical fire.
  • Ted throws rocks at a junkyard dog.
  • Ted rips a live chicken apart. This isn't shown onscreen, but the chicken is heard crying out in pain.
  • Ted stabs the arsonist (very gory) and buries him in a hole.
  • Ted argues repeatedly with his despondent father.
  • Ted nearly kills a prom senior girl by suffocation but her boyfriend, thinking that Ted is molesting her, beats Ted up and pours alcohol on him afterwards. Ted has to crawl to his father in pain, but his father only yells violently at him. Ted then murders the prom kids and his father by burning them all up.

Profanity

  • Mild swearing (fuck, shit, etc.), several religious exclamations (god, goddamn, damn it to hell, etc.), and some name-calling (prick, pervert, etc.) but these words are infrequent.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some smoking, frequent drinking.
  • Ted's father often has a beer in his hand, as does the arsonist.
  • Ted asks the arsonist for a cigarette out of curiosity. Ted's father is hiding from Ted that he still smokes.
  • Many of the prom crew show up drunk at the motel, and it's implied that some of them are high on weed.
  • Ted has alcohol poured on his open wounds and he cries in pain.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The entire movie focuses on a mentally deranged 9-year-old's growing fetish for blood and death.
