A Movie with purpose and message to build better Pakistan
captpk6 June 2013
Well written and beautifully directed movie. It has every thing for its audience: smile, tears and at the end motivation to contribute in "CHANGE" that is required for prosperous, peaceful and secure Pakistan.

When you come out of the cinema hall after watching the movie you are already pumped up to do some thing ... something which can bring change in yur thinking .. believe in standing against wrong and helping those who are right ...... Excellent and near to real direction and acting. It appeared that actors and director were fully involved in making it a real touch.. you would feel that the complete team was working for purpose and not for money... Job very well Done.. Excellent and Must watch Movie for every Pakistani..

Go and watch the movie with your family.

Must Watch - One major Step towards "THE CHANGE"
What a brilliant movie.. From beginning till the Climax, it kept me glued to the cinema screen.. Amazing plot and great cinematography.. I specially admire the smallest of details that Mr. Ismail Jilani and Mr. Shahzad Nawaz have taken care of while creating a hypothetical state (The Currency notes, Car number plates, Flags etc). Loved it !! A Great addition to the Pakistani Cinema and certainly a major step towards bringing the real "CHANGE" .. I would like to congratulate entire team of "Chambaili" for their excellent work. One last thing that i would like to add. It would have been great if the movie was release one or two months earlier. It would have certainly made a major impact on Elections 2013. Anyways, the Change has begun and Chambaili has done its part in it. Good work!!

A well made movie

Warning: Spoilers
A well made movie. Gives us an insight into so many things we take for granted. Well done. A movie that has stirred the world into a certain direction. It gave the confidence to the people, that they must stand up for what's right, and what is their right. Very well written story line by Shahzad Nawaz. The Pakistanis are loving this movie. And it's a must watch for people all over the globe. It's romance with one's country- the best romance there can be. People must know that they make a difference in their own way. And that the struggle to a land of free and liberated individuals is not an easy uphill drive. It needs will and strenght. And that's what the movie inspires.

Peace.

WHAT A FILM!! This Couldn't have come at a better time...Pakistanis needed this!
haaris_mg4 May 2013
I'd read quite a few negative reviews before I went to watch this but after watching this gem of a movie I think it is really unfair of the critics to go watch a film made by a not much experienced team and compare it with stuff that comes out of Holly/Bollywood made with millions...

This is a movie for Pakistanis whose conscience is still alive, Pakistanis who haven't lost hope that things will change for the better, Pakistanis whose heart bleeds for the motherland every time they see the dismal state we are in right now! GO watch this...FOR PAKISTAN'S SAKE!

Some truly wonderful performances given by Ehtishammuddin, Maira Khan, Shafqat Cheema, Ghulam Mohiuddin in fact the whole cast delivered superbly and if you watch this movie not trying to criticize and bring it down for its minor flaws but instead to take in its message and true essence, you will come out of the cinema hall with your patriotism refueled, your dreams restored and injected with a sense of purpose and realization that THIS IS THE MOMENT to do something. Must Vote on 11th May! May God have mercy on our nation this time and bless us with sincere and honest leaders -Ameen.

Chambaili-A wonderful cinematic journey
dhanak8518 June 2013
Chambaili; as a Pakistani film is a great addition to Pakistani cinema. A very moving realistic experience in the world of digital fiction. During and after watching this film I felt alive, again, as a Passionate Patriotic Pakistani.Thought provoking and intriguing at the same time; be it the theme of the film, the dialogues, lyrics, or the story line. Melodious tunes, great songs, very relevant situational yet apt lyrics and awesome background score. I loved the OST Chambaili. I have watched so many foreign films in cinema but the cinematic & patriotic feel of this film was above all experiences combined together. I never felt such delight just because of the fact that it was purely a Pakistani venture which proudly boasts of the tag 'Made in Pakistan'. I watched Chambaili twice in a week and equally loved the experience both times.it is a film that can move the audiences, can bring tears to your eyes with goose bumps over a number of scenes.

In short, it is a great film that every Pakistani should watch at least once in his life and you are definitely going to commend this sincere effort afterwards.

Way to go Pakistani cinema.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie really worked in our country. peoples saw this then their realization to vote for country.turnout of voter increase amazing. very power dialog use those actually touch my heart.we can also say that this is another step for rival of Pakistan film industry. The character which really mean that is saif character. It does not looks as if someone has acted for this character, it just seems that a real man with this mind has exposed himself in acting. A man who has indented to bring change peacefully through elections and making all aware for choosing the right. The selection of song and music is another beautiful thing of this movie.that song DUGDUGI amazing. i am advise other countries people to watch this movies and those feeling who get down lets starts up those feeling.simply love Ur country !

Hats off team Chambaili

Must watch!

Amazing, poignant and revolutionary. From the speeches to the idea/concept; this amateur film has achieved a lot! Its launch during the election months only solidified its message. Chambaili has become a symbol for revolution, social mobility and change. Its bring hope to this country that yes it will be possible one day to end injustice. Though the movie is a little immature and childish; especially near the ending; the message remains preserved. I hope team Chambaili continues to work in other projects to revive the ailing Pakistani cinema culture. People from the International world should definitely watch it as it remains a true representation of the elite Pakistani middle class.

Revival of Pakistani cinema? Not quite.
utj8 June 2013
I'm getting sick and tired of this rhetoric propagated by each film-maker that their film would be the harbinger of the revival in Pakistani cinema. Films in Pakistan have fallen short in each aspect of film-making, from screenplay to direction to cinematography (which is not even considered a technical specialization here). Chambaili, sadly, falls under the same category and although its production value seems to be better than the rest, it falls horrifyingly short when it comes to story, screenplay, acting and direction.

Let's begin with what can be called a story for this poorly written film. It almost wholly focuses on the national sentiment of the audience rather than their intellect. The dialogs are the same old 'do something for your country', 'rise up', 'be the change you want to see in the world' type clichés that my 10th grade below average students write about when given a topic similar to the context of the whole story. The narrative is so banal and passé that it seems almost non intellectual and poorly emotional coming from the recesses of a hormonal 14 year old. The whole concept of the story is preaching how to bring about a revolution rather than showing a chain of events that lead to one. The former being some tel evangelistic style of indoctrination whereas the latter would've been actual story-telling and true art.

For instance, the sequence of the first three acts is forced and the lines between them are severely blurred. Most characters have no development and the protagonist is the most boring character of them all.The story, as a whole, is what every Pakistani talks about in their drawing rooms or cafés. It would have taken fine screen writing to bring a run-of-the-mill idea and make it something truly special but alas it was not to be. The final act of the film, when the protagonist is on his way to becoming the champion of the people, things just happen as in there are no major conflicts, no 'all is lost' scene. Instead, the whole country just follows through and a revolution is achieved. How childish, cheesy and just absurd! The worst thing about the film are the actors. The lead played by the screenwriter I think, is absolutely ill fitted for the role. He isn't emotional enough to seem passionate about a revolution and what transpired to bring it about. He just seemed like a man trying to look 'cool' in front of the camera, which most actors think is appropriate in Pakistan because of the whole 'Bollywood hero' complex. Every single actor did an injustice to their respective roles except for Moosa who truly seemed to play the part of a revolutionary journalist and reminded most of us of our journo friends who are exactly the same. That was true acting. The villains weren't sophisticated enough, the women weren't tough enough. It all showed how Pakistani cinema won't revive for some time as the media professionals have not understood the importance of character building and a solid screenplay. They are just infatuated by their stories and it all ends there.

The only plus point of this film was the production which, although on a relatively low budget, showed promise. The lighting, costumes and sound was better than most productions and it looked and felt like a film unlike most Pakistani films which tend to look like television plays, another chink in the Pakistani cinema armor.

The director played it safe. There was nothing out of the ordinary in the frames and shots he had taken, but it was enough to get the message through. This aspect requires a lot more professional education before anyone in the cinema industry can actually even come close to foreign content.

The soundtrack was probably worst of them all. Not a single song struck a chord and it was simply some horrendous background noise that one had to bear. The score, on the other hand, was subtle and poignant enough but barely made an ripples within the audience.

Weak story and screenplay, poor acting, awful soundtrack and average direction make this movie, in my opinion, a failed attempt at the 'revival' of Pakistani cinema. One doesn't need 'Bollywood-esque' vulgar song and dance or 'Hollywood-esque' mindless special affects and big budgets to make a good film. Iranian cinema is one of the best examples of good films that tell compelling stories and rely purely on the art of film making rather than cheap thrills to win over an audience through half-cent emotional stimuli of nationalism (in this case) or sex and action (in the case of most commercial cinema).

I give this film a 3/10 and would like to add that it is a much better film than most of the self-proclaimed 'revivalists'. You know who you are.
