Very very well done
srgymrat3320 December 2022
I went into this basically knowing nothing about it - I speak Spanish and like indie film so it seemed like a good pick . It is "based on true events " upon further research I was not able to find weather this is a complication of stories , a general discourse of abuse or a specific retelling - HOWEVER- regardless of that - the feeling was true and right and fit the trauma of the subject matter .

The acting was superb, it was amazing how little was explicitly shown or stated yet you could take so much away from each scene emotionally. The power dynamic was perfectly represented between all sorts of different relationships in the film and overall - regardless of what this is based on - the message was sound and powerful and calls for change and the lasting effects of abuse and problems within elite sports. Totally worth the time and both the main actresses should be recognized - great talent and that writing .

Worth to watch
leonidasstathopoulos18 January 2023
A story behind the training for the olympic games of 2004....

An injury in training starts a chain of events after the replacement's mother complains for a relationship unapropriate. A story about abuse of power , manipulation , that becomes traumatic for a young kid and also an mature athlete waiting for the last carrier chance... events that can scars someone for life...

Will the truth be revealed?

What will be the cost for all the persons of the story?

Are they gonna find the power to make it to the olympics?

Someone's is lying or someone is hiding the ugly face of true events?

It was worth watching this film... We are not talking about a masterpiece from the latin america movie making but it was good.

Behind the scene diving
searchanddestroy-114 January 2023
There were films about skiing, swimming, practicing gymnastics, running, this time it is question of high scale diving competition, and behind the scene dramas that sometmes occur. It shows the psychological, and also physical problems that those athletes have to face to achieve their goals. It is question here of a young woman, in her nearly thirties, for whom it is the last chance for her to hope competing for the Olympics. It is accurate, sensitive, very well shown and explained. It is good to purchase those kind of films from time to time, and not necessarily destined to wide audiences. Maybe it can also be seen as an analysis of the Mexican society, a social drama underneath the simple sport story. Worth watching, definitely. It also evokes the problem of sexual harrassment in the sport teams, between trainers and female young athletes. An issue that you find anywhere, even in France, my homeland.

I think Karla Souza is the best actress
luisendf-7478416 April 2023
To be honest I watched the movie after the twitter trending topic about Karla Souza talking about how this production put her in troubles for talking or playing a roll about a sensitive but open topic. Bravo for telling the story in such a good acting way.

Karla Souza so far my favorite Mexican actress, I've watched her in other films and TVs shows and its acting always amazes me.

"La Caída" is a 95 mins films I've kept in my "pending list" and I wish I had watched it earlier.

Even though it's based on a real story, I didn't quite understood what athlete she was representing because the movie doesn't use the real names.

La Caída
barrydayton29 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately, this Mexican film, as a film, has too much story and not enough depth for me to rate as a 9 or 10. But it is an important story has been repeated so many times in real life. Some of the other reviewers seem to miss this so let me explain, although this film does a much better job at this than I can do. I'm not a diver but I do have many years experience in aquatics and have known many strong female athletes. So I sometimes wonder why does this happen to strong women so often?

To be a very good athlete you must train constantly and get very close to your coach, especially if you have the same coach for a long time. It often does not leave enough time to have a real life, boyfriends and girlfriends in particular. The coach confuses the closeness with a sexual closeness, the athlete becomes monomaniacal about winning so perhaps does not know what is happening or brushes it aside.

In this film Mariel, now in her late 20's has been with the coach since age 14 or before. The actual affair with the coach is long since over but leaves her needing sexual affection elsewhere. But she has been somewhat successful and is looking at her last chance for Olympic gold so has not wanted to rock the boat. She defends the coach even though she is well aware that the accusations against him are true. Add to this jealousy that the coach has a new 14 year old that he seems much to friendly with. Finding a piece of her underwear in the coach's hotel bathroom is too much to ignore. The only way she make her point is to make a spectacular mistake in the Olympic and commit suicide to be done with it once and for all.

Film based i guess on ambition
flejklw9 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Read some of the reviews in order to watch this film, some that wondered where the story is in this film , I am asking the same.

I have rated it 8 because it is well worth the watch, and the story as I understand it, is a Olympic diver nearing the end of her career, but due to circumstances has to team up with a young teenager in order to compete for Mexican Diving team.

Karla Souza who plays Mariel is great throughout the film playing the ambitious diver who will do everything to get to represent her country. Shame they scripted a strange out of story sex scene which I didn't understand how it fitted in with her character, some random old man , hopefully someone can explain.

Anyway the story revolves around a scandal within the Diving team which raises a lot of investigating and questions, especially by Mariel who has been on the diving team so long.

Dive for the story it's in there somewhere
roxmewild7 December 2022
The synopsis for this film is written in a shady way so when I watched this film I had no idea of what to expect apart from the focus was on a female divers goal to win an Olympic gold in Diving as it would be her last opportunity due to her age? The Real story is far more complex as the film subtly and to me in-an evasive way is about how the coach used his position to manipulate and abuse the young female divers for his own perverted satisfaction under the guise that he was their everything and to succeed and reach their potential they would need to embrace all that he taught and the ways in which he justified his actions!

The USA female gymnastics team sprang to mind whilst watching. Yes abuse is a sensitive subject in any circumstances to portray however this film was so subtle that I was nearly 45min into it before I realised that was the actual story. The acting is good but the story could have been approached and written a lot better than it was imo.

Deep Dive
kosmasp31 July 2023
No pun intended as always. This is quite the intriguing but also hard to watch stuff. Winning is everything - or as they also say: no one remembers who came in second (that is most definitely not a pun or innuendo - though sexuality does play a role here). It is about leading, it is about going under (there are so many things you can do - dad jokes or whatever you would call them - which in and of itself could be considered a pun).

The relationship between a swimmer and her coach is ... well always something that can make an interesting topic. Even more so, when it is as complicated as the one we get here. Then we have personal issues and rivalries and an up and cummer (is that a typo?). If you are not an athlete of any sorts you may not know what goes on behind the scenes - the power plays, the insane pressure ... and the own goals one has ... not always easy to achieve. As we know: there can only be one (or two if is a team sport - well that is how it usually works) ... again not an easy movie, with a lot of ups and downs (not just jumping wise) ... and a drama that has quite a few surprises for you too ...

Half way there
kurtisjvandermolen12 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great story, that only goes half way. I am aware that this is a true story and that one cannot embellish a true story. However we can pick our true stories carefully: one in which the patriarchy is halted in the process of his corruption, rather than after the fact. The patriarchy still wins in this hand-picked account and for that this viewer is gravely disappointed. That being said, the acting was impeccable and the cinematography exceptional. The story was riveting and compelling all the way to the end, notwithstanding an end that fails to do Justice by any of its stakeholders therein.
