An Idiot's Guide to Creating a Cult

This was a surprisingly unremarkable.

If you've followed the congressional hearings, this will likely be a waste of your time. I found the 3rd episode interesting, in a terrifying way. It's always shocking to see how devoted and brainwashed his followers are. The filmmaker captured great footage of the insurrectionists I hadn't seen before, showing the level of adoration and worship they had for that sick man. It didn't even take intelligence or charisma to manipulate his victims. It just took an unhinged narcissistic man with a platform and loudmouth to continue to repeat the same debunked lie over and over again. Well, that and an entire team of enablers who are just as guilty as he is, if not more so.

I rated it a 7 because of episode 3 and because the Trumpists are going to rate it a 1 w/o watching it, and I think it has value if you haven't been staying up to date with the hearings. I'm assuming we'll see more of the footage at some point; hopefully during his criminal trial(s).

Advertised as "Groundbreaking" - But it isn't.

It is a well-made documentary, and seems to sum up what I have already seen with my own eyes. Unfortunately, I didn't learn anything new (having watched the three episodes available thus far).

It would be nice to see the outtakes.

If you want to watch trumps lie, and lie badly, about their history, family and our election, watch this. Their insincerity is captured well in this. It doesn't refute his lies well.

Over hyped

This documentary has been hyped as a smoking gun for 45's involvement in planning the insurection.

Either the raw footage contains the key information or we've been duped.

It's still an interesting insight into the campaign, but not at all revealing. It's heavily managed and has no revelations or gotcha moments.

Nothing new

I didn't really learn anything new, but still found some of the footage quite engaging.

Found myself trying to make up my mind as to which of Trump's children I dislike the least. It's a tough choice.

The interviews with Trump supporters left me unsure whether to laugh or cry - gullible people, but bizarrely fanatical.

I noticed Melania never featured - but this is probably consistent with her lack of effort and absence of achievement as First Lady over the 4 years (unless you include buying new curtains for the White House).

The best 'behind the scenes' footage the documentary maker could have obtained would have been the Trump team having an apoplexy watching Fox News declare Arizona for Biden.

A missed opportunity again!

The producers really missed a good opportunity (having access to Trump world) to show a balanced and much more interesting expose. Instead, we are saddled with liberal hacks taking political shots throughout each episode. Of course, none of what the left is ever challenged so your left with more Fake News.

Would have been better off with out the talking heads.

The description of the documentary speaks of the unrepresented access to the First Family and Trump himself, but constantly cuts back to talking heads who seem to only speak about their own feelings and throries on how the Trump family works.

Just show the Trumps as they are and let people see for themselves how they are. Why have people outside the family speak to the family dynamics like they know how they operate and how they reacted to how the election was lost?

So many in our country believe The Big Lie, but the hearings have proven beyond doubt that the 2020 election was NOT stolen, and that trump and co. Had detailed plans to overthrow the election. The timeline presented was astonishing and, as the testimony was mainly from his own staff of lifelong hardcore Republicans, pretty riveting. Yes, Trump did try to subvert our election process. Trump met with oath keepers who planned to use the masses to force congresspersons to flee the capitol and reinstall him as president. Trump sent alternative electors to attempt to fraudulently proclaim his victory. As was said in the hearing "He is a clear and present danger to our republic" he must never be allowed near public office again.

What's New? Nothing Really.

The hype about this 3 part series both self promoted and in the news says a lot about nothing that we already knew. Being a prick is in Trump's DNA which filters down into his family who all live in an alternate reality. They have no humility and just back him up on his lies,hate,fraud and conspiracy theories. The scary thing is to this day he still has a major following no matter what is being revealed in the Jan 6th hearings which just proves how he has divided America. I am so glad I said good-bye to America in 1986 way before these events happened never looking back.

Amazing how a documentary from the UK happened to be at the right place, at the right time

In an amazing turn of events, a documentary crew happened to be filming, as some of the most interesting political events in the last twenty years were occurring. Will pro-Trump people think it was purposely edited to cast Trump in a bad light? Very likely. Will people from his organization claim that it was made up, or all the positive parts were left out? Probably. Are we likely going to hear about threats or character assassination from the producers? It wouldn't surprise many people, based on what has happened over the past two years. But it really is difficult to make up what this series covers. It's all verifiable, and in the public domain.

Disappointing

I was really looking forward to seeing this three-part documentary but unfortunately I found it to be kind of a waste of time.

The third part of the series does an effective job of illustrating how Trump's inability to recognize he lost the 2020 election led him to instigate the January 6 insurrection, but the first two parts seemed to be largely unfocused and basically a waste of time. I got the feeling the filmmakers had a lot of footage they knew no one had seen before, so they strung together a lot of humdrum interviews and b-roll shots that aren't particularly interesting (or make much of a point) just for the sake of showing them. There's virtually no focus at all in the first 90 minutes. We watch Trump family members endlessly being interviewed and speaking in public, but there are surprisingly no details of how incompetent and narcissistic Trump was as a President. Had they put more of an emphasis on that, the footage of the riots in the last part would have been much more powerful. If you've followed the recent January 6 hearings then you've already seen much of the footage shown here of what happened in the Capital.

"Unprecedented" would have packed more of a punch at about an hour's length. As it is now, at almost three hours it seemed to me as a whole like it wasn't sure what it was aiming for or what it was actually trying to say.

I couldn't watch for very long

You'd have to be from another planet to find new information in this. I gave up after half an hour of the Trump kids talking about their awesome dad. That's no way to start a documentary about anyone.

This documentary proves what an awful human being him and his followers of his cult are. Lol pretty on point documentary about the circus that his presidency was and the silliness of his campaign. Nothing new here. What was the point? They made it sound as if it was a behind the scenes look at the entire family during the 2020 election. It wasn't really. It was a waste of time.

A interesting documentary , insights into the Trump camp as they go from 2016 victory to the 2020 loss . Very honest and shows all that the 2020 election has more questions than answers.

good footage, confused format

Great footage and a look behind the scenes. Totally confused format. Every few minutes, the footage is interrupted by biased and partisan statements from leftist journalists that bring no new information, just their more or less veiled digs at Trump and his family. This is repeated over and over again. Discredited journalists representing a discredited mainstream media that nobody trusts anymore, unnecessarily drag down the value of the documentary and stretch the time, their statements are like audio noise. They add a supposedly objective context and frame, but nobody can believe that anymore. Sure there could have been criticism of Trump in the documentary, that's fine, but from at least somewhat relevant people and with at least a semblance of a balance of perspectives.

I'd rather watch a National Geographic documentary on dung beetles

I am sick to death of all the attention these creatures receive. Echoing other comments here: unless you've been living under a rock since 2016 there is nothing new to be learned. I cannot hide my disgust for this "family" and to paraphrase a book title: everything they touch they kill. And that includes my homeland.

Somewhat ironically, I could not in all good conscience live in a country in which SCOTUS handed the presidency to Bush II, and I left in 2001. I had considered returning at some point, but I will never set foot there again (it's already 19 years since my final visit).

Please Americans: vote very carefully and very blue in a new weeks if you want to retain even a modicum of democracy.

Clever, Clever Trumpanzees

Aside from the actual, honest reviews here, there are 2 sets of reviews :

1. The 1's from Trumpanzees who are claiming that a documentary where the Trumps talk freely and at length and convict themselves, is somehow one sided.

They are saying one sided things about themselves. Some of us call that the truth.

2. The 4's - 5's from people claiming there is no new material in the doc. There may be little new material but the difference here is that the criminal conduct is coming out a Trump mouth. Uncensored.

If the 1's were put aside and 4's and 5's from undercover Trumpanzees, the documentary would score 9 - 9.5, which is about right.

Alex your work as a filmmaker allegedly wanting to expose the Trump mafia fell way short. Instead it seems you drank the kool aid and succumbed to shooting a select few media appearances with the Trump approval. Shame on you for your lightweight insight.

I actually liked this. The footage captured only reinforced further my support for the campaign. There are some commentary from his critics, but nothing substantial. In essence, it's about a family pulling together and holding the line during the trying times of the election campaign. I can truly see the potential of his children continuing his fight to readjust the direction of this country in the future.

Yet another hit job

At first this appears to be a documentary of the Trump family going thru the 2020 election but pretty quickly it becomes apparent that this is just another hit job. What gives it away is the hate. Try as they might, they are simply unable to say anything good about the man or his supporters.

Thru their hate, they actually help the guy. He must be doing something right if this bunch of liars despises him that much.

They say that because it's done by someone from the UK, it must be independent. Christopher Steele is also from the UK and this series is just as "independent" as his dossier concoction.

Expected a lot. Got nothing.

The people who made the previews did the best job of anyone. I was expecting to learn a lot and got absolutely nothing. I don't like Trump so its not that I didn't like them being negative about him, it was just boring, fluff.

A factual based account of Trump's presidency and the so called insurrection January 6. Donald Trump was and is a man driven by his love of this country and all that it has given him. He felt like he should give back by running for president especially after his predecessor's eight years. Trump's presidency was an overwhelming success, covid notwithstanding, and the man was taken aback by the left's underhanded election irregularities and did vent afterwards. This anger and frustration although had nothing to do with the events of January 6,where many people just as frustrated, especially with all the overreaching covid mandates destroying the country, decided to break into the Capital. Now we see,as Trump predicted,all the damage the current administration is doing to America. Trump maybe eyeing another run in '24 or maybe one of his very distinguished children. Who knows? Trump has offspring to be proud of unlike our current president.

Please.... The makers of this cannot possibly believe this will sway against Trump. This game has been plaid over the past few years to death....we all know the real truth it just keeps comming out every day the true people who are shady and against this country. Funny how the videos of ballot stuffing were omitted....what they ciuldnt find that? We know the true corruption and exactly where it is comming from. This movie is just as biased and slamming against the people of this country. In no way shape or form is this a true documentary or true facts , just a bunch of slamming and more game playing...
