Knock off film of the ACTUAL top gun: danger zone
ideologistdz3 June 2022
This film was made to scam people into renting/buying the wrong Top Gun movie. It is incredibly low production value.

They had planes that would magically change between takeoff and landing.

The Asylum is still at it...
gamermoviegeek11 June 2022
What is there to be said? The Asylum doing what The Asylum does best.. Ripping off a Blockbuster movie, BADLY!

I mean, the writing is always awful, the acting is even worse, the effects look like they're done by a 12 year old who has been using After Effects plug-ins.. Honestly though I can't hate The Asylum because most of their movies qualify as so bad it's good and always give a good laugh!

Don't pay for it though whatever you do... Just get some pals round, get drunk, stick the film on and take the piss out of it.

A plot written by a high schooler on drugs
enopola8 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Obviously a scam, I mean Asylum films is pretty well known for trying to grab at mainstream titles with these garbage movies. With titles before like Tomb Invader and Sharknado, this one is no exception.

If you want to laugh at utter ridiculous film making this is one of them. The plot is so completely random and without a bit of realism. I mean if you were having a party it could probably work as background noise.

Hands down best part is the beginning after a shootout, the bad guy is bleeding from several gun shots and the FBI agent asks "where does it hurt" with a straight face. Just the best dialogue in the gem.

Obviously other reviewers never heard of The Asylum
DrProfessor8 June 2022
Lover them or hate them, it's The Asylum baby. I can see a lot of you are new, so here's the information to help understand the greatest low budget, straight to video, mockbuster production company ever.

The Asylum is an American independent film company and distributor that focuses on producing low-budget, direct-to-video films. The company has produced titles that capitalize on productions by major studios, often using film titles and scripts very similar to those of current blockbusters in order to lure customers. These titles have been dubbed "mockbusters" by the press.

Dont watch
seanmoraghan7 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is such a poor movie, it's not worth watching, Floodseeker is obviously from the production company of knows some one in the cast & trying to get this movie high ratings, so have reported his post.

This is a typical THE ASYLUM rubbish that they produce. Aircraft shows as a 747, but the cabin passenger arrangement is not, also cockpit purely shows a twin engine jet not 4. Not to mention the 2 side cockpit windows blacked out.

The most annoying part of the movie is the pilots referring to the F16 fighter jets, they are F18's, just goes to show the writers & producers dont know what they are doing.

Not is not the first movie to be made about a bomb on a plane that will go off if they drop below a certain altitude.

2nd worst attempt!
darkone2one8 June 2022
In the 2020 one, at list it was some kind of movie star (Eric Roberts). In the second (2022) only the effects were some kind, so consider to try another action movie, even without the name "Top Gun-ner"! :)

Better than I expected?
dawmasta3 October 2022
I saw this title at Walmart and was immediately draw to how goofy the plot sounded. Instead of directly copying Top Gun, it would at least be a sort of impending disaster/action movie. Being my first Asylum film I had low expectations, but it was okay. Not drastically boring, a fair deal of the acting wasn't terrible, and the plot generally made sense despite some weird twists and lots of nonsensical details. But I was very surprised that as many of the aviation-related details were huge misses, there were some relatively good ones thrown in. Despite the flight deck being wrong for the plane shown externally, they obviously got access to a full 737 simulator and used elements of it somewhat well, even if it wasn't always correct. The random shot of an Airbus throttle quadrant near the end had me rolling though, it's like they threw that in to see who's been paying attention or the editor grabbed a stock clip without even watching it.

For something to sit and watch seriously to get invested, it's a pass. But for a movie to not take too seriously and just have a good time watching with friends it's alright. I do have to pull one star because of the blatant rip-off. Just from this, I feel like Asylum could have potential if they stopped leaning so hard into mockbusters. Sinking a little more time and talent info visual fx, and getting writing consultants to help story flow could help make for better movies since they're obviously having a good time making these.

Don't Bother
Baldyed658 June 2022
Only reason would buy dvd/blu-rays of this was if selling them as a job for clay pigeon targets. I know actors/film makers need to earn a living, but doing these will never forward your career.

Its an Asylum movie. What do you expect?
vtwright10 June 2022
If you saw this "Top Gunner: Danger Zone," and thought for one second that it was "Top Gun: Maverick," then you are pretty gullible and will actually really enjoy the blatant military recruitment film "Top Gun: Maverick." As for me I preferred this to "Top Gun: Maverick." Incredibly low budget, terrible dialogue, wooden acting, stock aircraft footage that alternates aircraft types without a care for continuity. There were only 4 or 5 sets, 7 actors and 10-12 extras. Roll a spliff, get the popcorn, sit back and laugh, without leaving the comfort of the couch.

Top Gun meets Airplane!
knacks-4528115 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
2 films for the price of 1! Hilarious when the bomb disposal passenger suddenly becomes dressed like he's ready for masterchef and Bravo to the pilot of a 747 outmaneuvering a MIG. I was on the edge of my seat from the first scene and it flows effortlessly throughout. Film is so believable its unreal. Can't wait for the next installment. Oscars and BAFTAS incoming surely.

Scam? Yes. But I have seen worse.
makiskar-930324 July 2022
Lets be honest. It's an asylum movie so what did you expect?

Bad effects? Check.

Bad dialogue? Check.

Bad plot? I would say the plot was... interestingly bad.

It's a good comedy.

The most fun part to me is that the name has nothing to do with the movie other that they put some fighter jet scenes to scam people that it is the new Tom Cruise movie.

I have seen worse.

Wait, another mockbuster?...
paul_haakonsen1 October 2022
Well, with another brilliant release from The Asylum, you know pretty much what you are in for here. Yup, another mockbuster cashing in on the potent success of another blockbuster. And this time it is, well, isn't pretty obvious with a title like "Top Gunner: Danger Zone"?

Right, well I was expecting "Top Gunner: Danger Zone" to be a movie about brash fighter pilots doing reckless things in high altitudes and at high speeds. Yeah, that is what the movie's title would imply. But lo and behold, writer Marc Gottlieb opted to go a wholly different direction here with his script and storyline for "Top Gunner: Danger Zone". Yeah. Instead of high altitude and high speed, we have an action thriller about an explosive device on a commercial airliner.

Talk about not meeting the expectations here.

If you look aside from the movie's horrible title and the thing it is meant to cash in upon, and look at "Top Gunner: Danger Zone" as an action thriller with an airliner carrying an explosive device, then the movie isn't actually all that bad.

Of the entire cast ensemble, then I was only familiar with Michael Paré here. I will say, though, that the cast in the movie were actually putting on good performances in bringing their characters and the story to life on the screen.

Visually then "Top Gunner: Danger Zone" was actually surprisingly good, for a production from The Asylum. Just goes to prove that every now and again then The Asylum does up their game and strap up and deliver something worthwhile.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with "Top Gunner: Danger Zone", because it wasn't the lousy mockbuster that I was expecting it to be from the very moment of seeing The Asylum's name appear on the screen. However, this is hardly a movie that I will return to watch a second time.

My rating of "Top Gunner: Danger Zone" lands on a five out of ten stars.

Movie made with keeping in mind to trick people to watch it
shadys-481158 June 2022
It's not Top gun 2 of tom cruise. I am deleting this.

This is just some tricky movie made with intentionally keeping this name to trick you.

But Don't get trapped like i did and do not watch it.

Stay away horrible movie danger zone
thatleoguy10 June 2022
This is a horrible movie . Obviously a rip off with special effects right out of grand theft auto video game. It's hard to believe someone gave money to make this film.

And I just watched the trailer...
joao_m_neto10 June 2022
God forbid I watch this... there is more CGI on this than there is make-up on Rhianna's face... One reviewer mentions the "where does it hurt?" line, and, along with the trailer, that's it for me!

Oh boy...
staunton-gary5 November 2022
I could create the minimum content with the phrase "oh boy", but I won't do that to you. To start with, it's from The Asylum team. That should let you know where your expectations should sit. I've gone for 4 stars for this effort, with a cast from the Academy of Bad Actors you will find yourself thinking if they knew what movie they were going to be in. Some overacting and bad camera work made it cringe. Another actor looked like they were hoping it starred Ron Jeremy.

The movie itself is obviously a rip off of a few movies like Top Gun, Stealth and Airplane. It is somewhat watchable but crap (and I've just hit the minimum length requirement). I would recommend it, however, only if you have nothing else to do and need some screen imagery to fill out an hour and 25 minutes.

THIS IS CAR CRASH MATERIAL. You cannot avert your eyes
lvspvt28 December 2023
I can only presume this is training material for acting classes and film-making classes to illustrate perfectly how NOT to act and EXACTLY what awful script writing and directing looks like. The casting agencies were instructed to find the most annoying and terrible cast, and this is the only success I can report. They nailed it!! The most useless and annoying actors were accummulated in one place. Let training begin. We have over-acting, under-acting, acting whilst under the influence, acting whilst asleep, acting whilst devoid of any will to live. The storyline is so brutally unrealistic as to be quite entertaining for all the wrong reasons. And to ensure you grit your teeth for the entire duration, it is rounded off with the worst sound track that could be produced by a string orchestra gamely playing on whilst, I presume, fighting off an engulfing hoard of fire ants. The second and only other success I can report is that thankfully this movie is quite short.
