Triptych
Tweekums28 February 2023
As this eight part Mexican drama series opens a woman forces her way into a building, shoots and injures a few people, then takes a doctor hostage on the building's roof. The police surround the building and the hostage taker is shot. A forensics officer arrives at the scene and is shocked to see the injured woman looks just like her, and addresses her by name. She soon learns many facts about herself that she didn't previously know... she was adopted and is actually a triplet. As she tries to learn more about her origins she finds herself endangered by those who for reasons that later become apparent, want it to remain a secret.

I thought this was a solid enough series although the premise will have anybody who watched 'Orphan Black' suspecting that this would turn out to be a Spanish language remake. Thankfully it doesn't take that route and gives us something different. There are plenty of twists and turns, some more obvious than others and a good degree of tension. Somewhat inevitably things do get a bit melodramatic towards the end. Maite Perroni did an impressive job as the three triplets; each of them was distinctive in appearance and manner. Overall a decent enough series that I'd recommend even if it isn't really a must see.

These comments are based on watching the series in Spanish with English subtitles.

Almost unwatchable after the fourth eisode
julymermaid2 March 2023
The writers of this series were probably smoking something when they wrote this . Take a little bit of Orphan Black - mix it with paranormal or mystical activities ... throw in azi experiments for the fun of it and pepper with random sex scenes along the way to keep it steamy enough and of course to justify whatever that police officer is doing in this series. And DO NOT be fooled - this has absolutely zero basis in anything remotely real other than Triplets reuniting (not even).

A complete and utter waste of time - deserves a 3 or 4 stars but I gave a star extra for the acting of the lead. Give it a miss and save yourself some precious time.

Kind of okay, but not standing out in any way
JohnM6316 March 2023
Potentially good story, but only average execution. First episode e starts strong but then the story slows down. The plot still develops in the next 5 episodes, but just to slow. It is further slowed down by pointless erotic and other scenes that last way too long and contribute nothing to the story or the plot. Acting is average and at times just over the top. Some scenes are confusing as it is not exactly clear where or when the happen? Memory? Dream? Connection?

Camerawork and photography are decent but not special in any way.

The theme as such has so much more potential than is displayed in this series. Watchable, but be prepared to fast forward pointless time-killing scenes.

A plot of triplets in the genre of complex investigation + erotic.
folk_egm24 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Triptych (original title Triada) Three Lives Original Netflix series from Mexico, 8 episodes. The story of young women who have just learned that they have triplets. They investigate the secrets of their dangerous origins and fall into a complicated game. Of the mastermind of her life all along.

Overall, it's a series that has good follow-up content at a satisfactory level with the triplets plot that comes in the genre of disguised murder investigation and secret science experiments. Related to the mental connection of twins with erotic scenes inserted from time to time From this side of the lead actor who previously played Dark Desire, the plot is complex in a story that tricks audiences into predicting the villain of the plot. But the reason for the motive is as simple as a simple plot.

Bingeable, but with some flaws
lofcfan28 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
To start, let's make it clear - this is a very bingeable series. Short episodes, cliff hangers and a plot that speeds along.

The acting is generally good (the lead actress in particular does well to play all three siblings and to convey the differing characters and emotions of each) and the cinematography is also good. Scenes where the same actress is interacting with herself as another character look seamless.

However, there are a couple of flaws in the plot: 1) As mentioned in another review, sometimes things happened or situations were resolved without any explanation of how; and 2) The main 'experiment' which forms the main plot reveal in episode 8 is never fully explained - what was the experiment seeking to achieve as its end goal?

That said, it was an enjoyable watch, and good to have a definitive conclusion to the story at the end of the series rather than being left hanging for series 2 to arrive.

concept vs content
myrqmyhg2 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A 2020's exploration of the consequences of human cloning + psychic connection, without having the bandwidth to genuinely develop a meaty & fulfilling storyline or character depth. Orphan Black likely ruined shows like this, as Tatiana Maslany & the recurring cast were brilliant, but I would be remiss not to give utmost admiration to Maite Perroni for her incredible work and psychological flexibility on Triada/ Triptych. Outside of a few exceptional supporting characters (Ofelia Medina, Flávio Medina ((rel unk but unlikely)), Nuria Bages) Perroni IS the entire show. And she is truly entrancing on an intimately emotional level, a success for acting. The written material they're working with is insufficient, and instead of making an effort towards pertinent content the writers decided to insert entirely too many romantic scenes (technically "sex" scenes but they are delivered à la paperback romance novel, suggesting the series is tailored to please a "mature" female audience as it does the courtesy of relaying passionate intimacy without flashing any controversial body parts ie breasts; all while an equally passionate - and in some scenes poorly chosen & cringeworthy - absolute crooner is on full blast for entirely too long). This leaves you with: 8 episodes, many of the first 7 having a standard "gotcha" ending although most fall flat as they're far too predictable; a weak storyline that has almost zero surprises; and a writing staff that chose fluff over substance, which you ONLY do if *intentionally* crafting a comedy. The only redeeming elements of this series that make it worth watching are the actors who did an outstanding job driving & nurturing interest to make this palatable, and the director & cinematography crew for some poignant filming moments that really stood out. The writers & producers honestly should regret pushing that script, and repeatedly thank the cast & crew for making it worthy of peoples' time. The only reason I rated so generously is to credit the heavy lifting that the cast & crew had to do to make this worth enjoying. Sincere hat tip & respect to cast & crew.

Full of holes-often goes A to D without B and C. Especially at the end.
chuckkehe27 February 2023
Full of holes-often goes A to D without B and C. Especially at the end. Action moves on with no explanation of how situations are resolved. Things are suddenly and miraculously resolved and we just are supposed to move on as well. I don't want to give away plot so I'm being vague. But we are often taken to a tense "standoff" of a situation and then suddenly the characters are just somewhere else. Or they are free. Or in some other way we have just moved past the situation with no explanation. Even the ending does nothing the explain how we got from the bad guy (bad woman) holding a gun to her being locked away.

Solid psychological thriller, worth watching for sure
rcryniak-809875 March 2023
The premise of the story, without giving spoilers, is based on true events. More accurately, *similar* events. But enough to inspire a genuine twisty plot that leaves you both feeling enthralled and satisfied. Naysayers that reviewed it poorly simply don't have the intellectual capacity to connect the very spelled out dots and need to have every detail spoon fed, so don't let that dissuade you from watching it. It's a worthwhile mini binge for sure. It was a good time that had an ending that was modestly predictable (only reason I didn't give 10/10) but wrapped it up in some unexpected ways. Definitely enjoyed it.

Overall good thriller - with holes
johnhsmith-000561 March 2023
This is an interesting thriller, stronger at the beginning episodes than at the end. Maite Perroni is fantastic in the lead role, but I wish they gave her something more stable to work with.

The series is a bit disjointed, I don't know how else to describe it. It's like some major scenes were left in editing on the cutting room floor, especially in the last episode. We jump from one situation to another without an explanation in between.

Even the credits claim there was nudity, but I don't recall any. If there was, it wasn't much. Maybe that was edited out too.

And this was filmed in Mexico? Most of the vehicles seem to have Mexican plates. But until halfway through I thought it was filmed in Spain. Everyone looks European, and are dressed in sweaters and jackets for colder weather. A couple scenes show heavily forested hills that just look out of place in most of Mexico. All these things together feel a little odd. But maybe that's what they were going for.

Predictable and not a real story
caixadosdesejos1 September 2023
Can you really claim something is based on a real story when only 1% of it is real? The only real story here is triplets finding out they are triplets, but all the rest is fabricated. It's a cheaper version of Orphan Black (even the hair styles!) while mixing a bunch of other random stuff in an attempt to create something original. It wouldn't bother me so much if the story ended up being good, but it's not! They create a lot of unnecessary complexity, playing with the way events unfold, they think you'll be surprised with a big reveal and a plot twist, but it's actually predictable!

And why create two characters who work for the police but can't figure out much of anything on their own? Not to mention how dumb they can be sometimes.

The acting is good and that's the only reason why I'm giving 4 stars.

Maite Perroni is fantastic in this Spanish language mystery thriller.
cgvsluis9 June 2023
I thought this was a wonderful mystery thriller that kept me interested from the very beginning. I had a brief period where I thought the story was going to take an "orphan black" turn, but it didn't and I was grateful for the more realistic story. (Don't get me wrong, the Orphan Black series is wonderful, as is it's lead actress Tatiana Maslany and I highly recommend watching it...but this is a different show.) I first saw Maite Perroni, who plays the lead in Triada (Triptych), in the Mexican series Oscuro Deseo (Dark Desire) where she plays a lawyer in a dark or erotic thriller and I thought she was fantastic...so, when my husband and I were looking for something to watch on Cinco de Mayo, I suggested this-her new series and we were not sorry.

This is a fairly short series at just eight episodes that tell a complete story. The series begins with a crazed woman entering a high rise office building, injuring employees in the process, only to confront her therapist in her office and take her out onto the roof at gunpoint. Meanwhile the police surround the building and the woman is shot down by a police sniper on a neighboring building. Then we follow a forensic scientist into the building and up to the crime scene, only for her to bend over the body and discover that the woman looks identical to her...then the woman who was thought to be dead, reaches up to grab her and calls her by her first name...Beth.

This sends Beth on an interesting journey to discover that she has been lied to her whole life, she was obtained in a black market adoption, her parents aren't really her parents...in fact she is not an only child, she is just one of a set of triplets! A Fascinating and mysterious story unfolds and the people in her life are not who she thought they were.

This is loosely based on a true story which makes it even more fascinating. I loved all the strong female characters in this series...and it was really interesting to see who the villain really was when the story finally unfolds. They do an excellent job building the tension and keeping you speculating, especially about everyone's motives and theories. Who do you trust?...always a tough question for women and really highlighted in this series.

The sets are great, the acting wonderful and the story gripping. I highly recommend this Mexican series...to both thriller and mystery fans. I loved how at one point they offer up a cloning theory, great hat tilt to Orphan Black. Maite Perroni has really become one of my favorite actresses to watch.

This review is based on watching the series in it's original Spanish language with subtitles.

Not bad
bbydahl-2606730 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was good but choppy though. It would go between the past and the present and that was confusing at times. People say it's like Orphan Black but not really. This group of sisters are not clones but triplets born from the same mother (of course.) It is very loosely based on the Triplet Boys, Robert, Eddy and David, that were adopted from the Louise Wise Services. They were part of an experiment involving several groups of triplets and twins that were separated separated at birth. These boys accidentally found each other.

I don't expect there to be a season two with the way the show ended. If so, it wouldn't be really a mystery this time.

More detail synopsis maybe ?
flejklw25 February 2023
So reading the synopsis, it kind of made me think that this series might be modelled on the male triplets in the states that were born in 1961, separated through an adoption agency and not until a chance meeting at a college, two of the three were eventually reunited, leading to joining the third male.

So Becca a forensics expert whilst attending a crime scene comes across her identical self, the storyline is far more complex than I anticipated, but it made it in some parts very entertaining.

The individual characters played by Maite Perroni were well performed and really gave you an excellent perception of each role has they went through each episode.

However, although the story is complex and has it moves on you get to understand how the lives of Becca, Tamara and Aleida came to be how they are, the scriptwriters must have felt that viewers may find this all a little dull, so throw in a sex scene or two along the way.

Humberto, Becca's colleague, the stud, as you find out later in the series, has the moral compass and stature of a borderline perverse male model, talk about taking advantage, again later in the series all is revealed.

5/10 good storyline overall, not easy to watch at times.

Too Drawn Out
merishore7 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The premise wasn't bad, but the show was disjointed. There were too many flashbacks. Half the time it wasn't easy to figure out what was happening.

The triplet with the dreadlocks was ridiculous. It was laughable. The many unrelated sex scenes were painfuI and added nothing to the story. I wanted to like the show, but it took way too long to come to a conclusion and was just too hard to relate to.

Plus the characters were hard to like. How can you like characters who set fires and guzzle alcohol out of a bottle. I had to fast forward through Althea nonsense and stopped watching it in the middle.

Unpacking the Mystery of a Triptych Series - Don't Miss It!
hollywoodxtrememov2 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Triptych, a Mexican Netflix thriller, is apparently based on a true story, though no one knows which one. The closest parallel appears to be the story of three triplets who were separated at birth and later reunited, as documented in the documentary Three Identical Strangers, but this isn't a documentary. It makes use of the allure of a distinctly strange premise with a compelling grain of truth as the foundation for a fairly decent, if fairly standard, eight-part thriller web series.

Whatever was true about the story in the first place gets lost in the genre conventions, with Triptych more resembling Orphan Black than anything else.

The gripping story of triplets Aleida, Tamara, and Rebecca is told in Triptych. Their biological mother, Dr. Bátiz, separates them from each other a few months after their birth. They are distributed to various groups of parents in order for Dr. Bátiz to conduct an experiment.

Dont Miss the entire video.

Waste of time
orlando-9284320 April 2023
Inspired by true events?? Ha the only thing that's true is that three triplets fortuitously met some years later - three men. See the movie "Three Identical Strangers" For me,Tryptich was a waste of time. Poorly written, poorly acted, and unnecessarily long sex scenes. Apart from Matie Perroni being pleasing to the eye - the only reason l gave this movie any stars at all (but an unconvincing actor especially in the sex scenes), the rest was too stretched for reality.

I always find it amusing how movie shorts get away with stating that it's based on true events when the only true or actual event might only be the tiniest snippet.

I must say though, the dubbing in these non-english movies probably don't do the movie proper justice.

Warning: Spoilers
Review! Haha! I wasn't even going to write one but upon feeling duped I felt I needed to and there will probably be spoilers.... So they pass this off as a true story! But as you find out more and more this isn't a special, supernatural, cloning of triplets or something. Nothing is even special about the way they were born! What they did was fake all that around triplets who didn't know each other or that they were even triplets and made the rest up to make it more watchable! They should call that fraud but apparently if one thing in a movie or show is true they can claim "based on true events"! It was wayyyy to long and I feel like they were kinds trying to do a bit of an orphan black thing. Any ways oh and also they try to throw in some Nazi experienment! Hahaha! That they were clones of some lady they called a Nazi! Yeah pretty sure no Aryan experiments took place with non blonde , blue eyed subjects! Ridiculous!

Triptych Review
edwedw28 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The show starts off with the rich sophisticated triplet sister killing people in order to take her therapist hostage and being shot. The other two sisters are possibly unaware of each other but not unaware of the rich sister having seen her dead body at the crime scene or actually haven met her. What noticed in the first 7 episodes is what ensues is less sophisticated action, dialogue and clearly script writing. The stripper (apears to take nothing serious)/artistic dancer and the alcoholic forensic (do first and ask questions later) officer just make mistake after mistake. The officer has the predominant triplet role and she's overly aggressive without charm or finesse.

What I find interesting is that if you believe you're involved in a conspiracy, you would take steps to protect yourself and assume the people directly around you or indirectly near you could somehow be involved or monitoring you or ready to harm you and/or those who make you aware of the conspiracy. Thus you take saftey steps and make informed conscious decisions about how and where to dig and methods of communication but be ready to deal with whatever the conspiracy is. There seems to be none of that, just the two helpless and problematic sisters ignorantly and destructively bumbling through without suspecting anyone but the rich sisters husband. I was disappointed, how do you only suspect one person? People are allowed to have problems, but when you're trying to solve a crisis, don't become part of the problem or so entrenched that they overtake your ability to live and function with some semblance of true stability.

Good Thriller
maruma-1117523 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the whole thing in one day. I liked it but I was disappointed that Ana Layevska, the only actor I knew in the cast , had such small and insignificant role.

I see that other reviewers say that it's a copy of Orphan Black. I've never seen that series but I read the Wiki and I don't see a resemblance here. Triptych is not about clones at all.

I agree that this series has a couple of plot holes at the end. First the sisters got away from the doctor who was holding them at gun point and left her locked up and then Eugenio miraculously survived the car accident without even a scratch. All with no explanation what so ever.

I should mention that I am a native Spanish speaker so I watched it with the original audio.

Just a poor Orphan Black rip-off.
bryanlheckman17 March 2023
Watch Orphan Black instead. This is a poor copy in every way, poor script, poor acting, poor through line. It's got no heart at all. The only upside is that you can watch it and nap very easily- you aren't going to miss anything and there won't be any difficulty "catching up" as the character development is all but nonexistent. This would possibly have made a decent soft core porn, but it lags in spots that would definitely need to be edited down to keep the viewers interested enough to stick around for the occasional sex scene. Don't waste your time on this one, you literally can do better. Peace.

Its a little too confusing.
True_Reviews27 February 2023
It started out intriguing, but the show overall started to get to me after the first two episodes. It just did not hold my interest that much. So, I speed watched a bit and then jumped to the last episode after the end of episode 2. The plot to me is just a bit too unbelievable and I would have to say silly. It is almost like a science fiction story that started out as a drama. I could not figure it out and after a but I decided enough was enough and that is when I jumped to the conclusion, aka last episode. The story is a "who did it" and then tries to get you to think about who the real bad guy is. But after a bit you just do not care.

too many holes to make a good show
qyqnqwbrg8 September 2023
I wanted to like but there were so many issues at the very beginning (how many shots are in the gun, the farce of the action on the roof, the hospital scene, etc) that I had problems buying into it.

Maite Perroni IS the movie and she does a good job of making the 3 characters stand out, but then why do they immediately recognize each other? Most of the other acting was decent though but all the character were cliches, especially the relationship be the forensic officer and her boss. The story dragged at times but left you feeling like explanations were cut. You were never sure if something is a dream.

I did the first two episodes and dropped it.
