An Honest Review.
meddlecore7 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After Emma's father ends up critically incapacitated, in what she deems a freak accident.

She returns home to investigate.

Only to discover that it has something to do with a haunted radio.

The radio isn't just haunted by one ghost - but three.

A young girl, who repeatedly turns the radio on.

Her mother, who repeatedly turns the radio off, and incessantly hushes anyone making noise.

And an extremely violent man, who tries to strangle anyone who makes, even the slightest, sound.

After realizing that she can only see the entities when the radio is turned on.

She attempts to make contact with them, to learn more about who they are, and what exactly it is they want.

At first, it's hard to understand why she puts herself through the torment...instead of just leaving the house.

Or getting rid of the radio, for that matter.

But, to the credit of the writers, they do offer an explanation as to why the violent man demands absolute silence.

And why she can't just destroy the radio.

Even if the process to get there is relatively frustrating.

Mainly, because the acting is really, really bad.

The ambience is overwhelmingly dark.

You can tell they were trying to establish a symbolic atmosphere - about darkness having taken over the house.

But it comes off a bit forced, if not alienating.

Though, I imagine they felt they had to do this, because there isn't a whole lot of dialogue in the film.

Another problem the film suffers from, is that it plods on rather slowly, especially at the beginning.

And, when things do start to actually happen- after the ghost of the violent man possesses her boyfriend- the acting is way too over the top.

Rendering it more laughable, than it is scary.

I will give it to them, though, that they, at least, managed to tie up all the loose ends.

Which is it's only redeeming quality.

Though, they use this as an oppoutunity to set themselves up for an, arguably unwanted, sequel.

I'm actually surprised to hear (pun intended) that this actually made it to theatres.

As it seems more like a straight to Shudder - or even TubiTV- type feature.

So it's understandable to see so many paying viewers leaving notably upset - and feeling ripped off.

Because, as I previously mentioned, the acting is really really bad.

Which is hard to get over.

That being said...it's definitely not the worst horror film of 2023 (so far).

But it does suffer from a number of fatal flaws, which make it a struggle to sit through.

"I need to go back to Italy"
Clintborari19 December 2023
Sound of Silence begins with a promising concept that, unfortunately, fails to live up to its potential. The film has its strengths, but notable shortcomings and absence of crucial elements that don't meet its promised expectations, I would like to delve into the fundamental points and concerns with why this film fails to entice the audience.

One glaring issue is the significant reduction in horror features. While not necessarily expecting excessive blood or gore, the film lacks deeply disturbing moments, jump scares, psychological emotions, or heightened tension. It opts for a soft touch approach, emphasizing more realism over supernatural in moments like deft human strangulation. However, it feels placid, and this choice fails to genuinely captivate the audience, leaving a lingering sense of disappointment and missed opportunities.

The film introduces intriguing props like static from a haunted antique radio, ghostly voices, the sound room, which could have had a more substantial impact on the story. Unfortunately, they feel underused and undervalued, failing to make a significant impression despite being catalysts for the narrative.

Acting performances were reasonable, contrary to some user reviews, the cast delivers without any significant faults. The scenery, except for the sound room and isolated kebab van, is monotonous and feels like you have seen the same setting hundreds of times before. There's an irrelevant scene involving a local Italian resident stealing a bike, and while he is seen in the final scenes of the film it adds little to the overall plot.

There is theme within the story being Angelica (Lucia Caporaso) being an impressive wannabee singer, again there is never discussed in acute depth and is throughout disconnected to the happenings concerning the main story.

The ending with the tormented picture is a nice touch, but it comes out of nowhere and contributes largely to the film's confusion. It feels like the director attempted to bundle multiple stories into a single film, resulting in a semi-lacklustre and disjointed experience.

While the concept of the antique radio is intriguing, the film lacks strong foundations. The initial potential is squandered due to a lack of a good story, flimsy information, poor character development, a safe and predictable story, and an ultimately clichéd ending.

In summary, Sound of Silence falls well short of recommendation. It hesitates to fully embrace its horror field and remains too safe to be classified as a thriller. Although it concludes on a somewhat positive note, venturing into more dangerous and engrossing territory could have significantly enhanced the experience.

Rating: 3/10.

The best movie I've ever watched
goldengamer-3899016 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Me and my friends went into this expecting a garbage movie, we were surprised. There's so much depth behind every word spoken, and so much relevance to every scene. Especially the final scene, my jaw dropped. The entire cinema started clapping and cheering.

This is the movie of all time. I laughed and I cried, I'll never forget this movie.

The lack of coherence in this movie represents the chaos of life, the movie doesn't make sense, just like life. I'm mindblown by how good this movie is.

The movie really ends at the 1 hour mark, the last twenty minutes are a whole other movie, and it's amazing. The second movie is completely relevant to the first one and the story would make no sense without it.

Believe every last negative review because this film was just awful
LordCommandar28 April 2023
I normally don't go by reviews because sometimes their made by either paid trolls or simply haters against the production but after watching this amateurish bad acting film, it is truly safe to say that the negative reviews are spot on. This was by far one of the worst films I've watched in a long time. After an entire hour and a half of nothing and ridiculous dialogue, just to found out that this is nothing but a ghost story about domestic violence. Italian actors at their very worst, I kid you not. It's like watching dress rehearsal for people audition for a part and were cast who knew they was no real paycheck involved. Believe every last negative review because this film was just awful.... UGH!

Horror? More like horrified.
farhanread-775265 March 2023
I have never written a review before this but after watching this trash I felt morally compelled to create an account with IMDB and say something to spare others from wasting time with this filth. Some stylistic choices were made simply because "ooh scary" but which makes no sense whatsoever. For example, the people in this story live in perpetual darkness, like have they even heard about lights? A lady was making some food in the oven in the dark. They plod about in complete darkness like they were vampires (except they're not, they're morons) so while apparently they can function, the audience can't really see what's going on, not that there's anything to see. Don't even get me started on the dialogue. Even the characters seem to have this undertone of, "omg this is so stupid, but I gotta keep a straight face while saying it". I walked out of the cinema wanting to punch a tree, kick a bear in the balls and chew on glass to distract me from the fact that I just got raped by this movie. And when you breathe a sigh of relief thinking the movie is at an end, a seemingly better movie only very tenuously connected to the first takes its place for no reason whatsoever than to burn through whatever budget was remaining probably.

Sound of boredom...
paul_haakonsen9 May 2023
When I stumbled upon the 2023 horror movie titled "Sound of Silence", of course I had to watch it, given my love and admiration of the horror genre. I had not heard about the movie prior to watching it, so I had no idea what I was in for, aside from it being a horror movie. But the movie's synopsis seemed fair enough.

I am amazed that four writers could collectively manage to come up with something as dull, slow paced and uninteresting as the script for "Sound of Silence". Writers and directors Alessandro Antonaci, Daniel Lascar, Stefano Mandalà and T3 really failed to concoct anything worthwhile watching here.

I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in "Sound of Silence", and while it definitely felt like the actresses and actors put on fair enough performances, they virtually had nothing to work with in terms of anything remotely interesting in the script, character gallery or dialogue.

"Sound of Silence" was a swing and a miss of a horror movie, and it is not one that I will ever return to watch a second time. I didn't even make it through it the first time; I simply gave up on the movie out of sheer and utter boredom. Don't waste your time, money or effort here.

My rating of "Sound of Silence" lands on a generous two out of ten stars, and it is the production level of the movie that lands the movie on a two star rating instead of a single star.

Not Movie
harbisaleh9 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I do not know whether I entered this evening a horror movie or a comedy movie because I really did not expect for many years to see such a strange movie, which until the last scene was not attractive and was not expected in the content of the story and the acting as it was a silent movie and I think that the dialogue did not cost the director of the movie anything but One paper and just simple words, and this indicates that the entire film was produced in just one day. I was hoping to see a different horror movie, since we have reached the year 2023, and the vision has become different in terms of directing and in terms of acting, but this never happened in this unfortunate movie. Advice to everyone, if you enter this movie, sleep and dream of beautiful things, better than watching a movie or what is called a horror movie.

Don't listen to the people that leaves the negative reviews.
gojirafan-624-60136112 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Is this movie an Oscar winning movie? No Did I like it better than the trash Hollywood puts out? Yeah Do the characters make stupid choices? Yeah Do I care? Nah So if you're looking for a Friday or Saturday night horror movie ild say give this a go. It's story isn't ground breaking you'll be wondering why they didn't just leave the house. But I don't think about stuff like that, I just enjoy the ride. This is better than lights out for sure which has similar concepts. The negative reviews on here are hilarious it's like they watched a completely different movie to the one I'm watching. Don't go watching this if you think your getting a grade A story cause you'll be dissatisfied.

Excellent horror movie
stet8723 February 2023
Prepare to be on the edge of your seat with this chilling and spine-tingling horror movie! 'Sound of Silence' will be leaving you with an unsettling feeling long after the movie is over. The storyline is unique and captivating, drawing you in from the very beginning.

The acting is top-notch, with the cast delivering a convincing and harrowing portrayal of the terror they are experiencing. The special effects are also impressive, adding to the overall eerie atmosphere of the movie.

If you're a fan of horror movies, 'Sound of Silence' is a must-see. It will leave you breathless and terrified, yet thoroughly entertained. Be warned, though - you may never look at a radio in the same way again!

Outside of the acting the story is good
sydney56112 July 2023
First, let's address the elephant in the room. This film doesn't have Oscar worthy performances. The acting isn't so bad that it takes away from the overall movie but it certainly leaves something to be desired. Now that we've got that out of the way. The remaining aspects of the film where actually quite good. I'm a horror fan and I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. While this film was obviously done on a smaller budget, at least compared to today's blockbuster standards, the effects are modest but well done. What starts as a simple ghost story soon leads to a film that is a commentary about people who are trapped in abusive relationships, or in situations in which they have no power. If your a horror buff looking for something that is lightly thought provoking and not the standard blood and guts fair. This was a very enjoyable film. The bonus horror short at the end, while not directly related to the events of the main feature, adds a nice surprise.

Worst horror movie ever , it's not even a movie
maryamyassine13 February 2023
It is not a horror movie, not even 1 scary scene.

Eveyone in the theatre were amazed and angry how can someone do such a silly and bad horror movie . We enter this movie after seiing his 6.2 rating such a scam.

We always trusted the imdb rating but in this movie i don't know what happen.

It's seem like a horror movie from the 18 century not scary at all and makes you angry because the director thought that people are so stupid to even accept such low quality of a movie.

After finishing the movie we went to the cinema superior and ask him to remove this movie from the watch list because it is really a scam and no descent cinema should put it on her screen to watch.

Lights out + dragon ball super
rbjohn-7477621 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is it, the movie that really drove me to create a profile here to say how goooood awwwful this movie is.

If you've watched: A quiet place Dead Silence Lights Out And Dragon Ball Super..

imagine having a baby mush them all together, and pooped on it then this would be that movie.

It's neither scary, nor interesting, nor worth watching. An abysmal horror movie that fails to deliver any genuine scares or thrills. From its poorly executed plot (if there was one) to its laughable attempts at suspense, this film is a prime example of the horror genre gone horribly wrong. It's a painful experience that leaves viewers questioning why they wasted their time on such a lackluster and uninspired production.

That kamehameha style scream to defeat the ghost was a nice touch though, really ramped up the movie.

Small choices make a different.
semo-111359 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My rating for this movie is 3 out of 10.

Its bad, but not that bad, i got what i was looking for in a horror movie which is unpredictable scary scenes, which were there. Acting is very bad though, and defeating the violent man's ghost by a group screaming, that was a silly scene, which really shows a poor choice of the movie makers.

And please could someone tell me about the movie end? Because it looked like it's connected with another chain of movies or a beginning of another horror story movie which i wouldn't even think about watching it if i know it's from the same movie makers.

With a little bit of good choices, it could have been better.

Waiting till it hits 1 star
sky_wolf3 March 2023
This movie should be banned from all cinemas. It's not even a movie. Got scammed big times.... the actors aren't even from the acting college let alone the director if there is one in this movie.... even if all the staff, their friends, their relatives and neighbors give this movie 9 stars, it wont save it from hitting a Guinness record of the lowest rating movie.

The movie lacked all the coherence between all its parts. At some point, even the music didn't fit the scene. Its not even stupid to consider it junky entertaining horror, it was serious, which is so sad. I have no idea how this trash got a place in the Cinema box. It seems like everyone can make a movie nowadays!!

One of the worst movie ever
thehoowlingwolf-942284 August 2023
(NO SPOILER) 1. I wanted to go to Italy before I watched this movie, now I never want to go there.

2. I will explain it simple here, Extremely poor editing, extremely bad script, and the actors where actually good. It was so bad that i had to write this review, I can't understand why they even did this movie.

3. Specifics here: (Editing) Many scenes where the camera shots are still and the ghost is visible in the next still shot. Which is one of the simpliest editing you can make, even I can make that myself (putting the camera down on record and then show myself in camera and then just clip out frames that shoulnt be there.

(Script) The characters has potential in their acting, just too bad that they even accepted this script. If you are terrified of something paranormal in a house, you want to get out of there, right? And if you cant, you should wanna try to reach for help somehow like in many other horror movies, good ones at least.

Well, in this one they noticing what triggers the paranormal activity and they continue pushing the triggers, its like they wanna get harmed. I hope the director of this movie either quits his job or gets fired. Whenever you feel you can make a better movie yourself, then u know its bad.

Terrible Acting, Worse Cinematography
thalassafischer18 July 2023
This might have been made on someone's hand held video cam. Just fyi I hate most found footage films that aren't Japanese flicks from the early 00s or Hell House LLC. I walked out of The Blair Witch. So I'm not going to sit through something that looks like a very talented home movie, first of all.

It is hands down the worst cinematography I've ever seen in an Italian film. Some American trends aren't worth copying, folks.

The terrible cinematography can't even be saved by convincing acting that would allow even a slight suspension of disbelief that is IS a home movie. The acting is so bad and that's not all.

The director has to point out that the flick begins in America by waking the main character up to the most obnoxious 1992 sounding radio talk show host mentioning that it's America.

Then laughably the scenes of Italy almost could be the US. Of course I live in California and we have some of that Tuscan architecture here with the Spanish tile, but the opening Italian parts are about as distinctively Italian as having a mouth or a nose. There's a hospital, a street and a food truck that appears to be in a sprawling Walmart parking lot that says Bar in English!

I just gave up. I really wanted to see this flick too because I've had a fear of haunted radios since I was like 4 and I thought dead people were talking through my grandma's bedroom radio when it turned to static.

Just bad.
suzannebainbridge19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've been on a run of semi good films on Shudder which lulled me into as false sense that this maybe a good film it is not.

I know that for most of us the cost of energy has gone sky high so maybe that's why most of this is shot in unlit dullness.

This isn't a horror film its a ghost story with violence.

I simply don't care about the characters, the back story and whatever happens. The only thing I have a question about is WTF with the last 10 mins, what does what happens there have to do with the main story. I know the radio comes in to play but the painting and woman and whatever...do not waste your time watching this is just a so so film at best.

An overall fun ghost movie without much holding it down
kannibalcorpsegrinder5 November 2023
After a disastrous job interview, a woman and her husband are forced to return to Italy to check on her family which forces her to stay at their house while they wait for news, but the longer they stay the more they find the house haunted by a silence-seeking ghost determined to drive them away from the house.

This was a generally fun time with a lot to like about it. One of the better features here is the likable setup that has some intriguing aspects at play. As we're given a brief bit about the strained family dynamic here with her being in the US with her husband while her mom and dad are back home, the inability to be aware of the current situation of the relationship allows for a strong slow-burn build-up to the supernatural force haunting them. The insistence on staying at the house despite plenty of warnings both before and during manages to be quite likable as the quest to discover what happened is ably spelled out so ignoring it makes sense, completing the story well. That provides the kind of believable launching pad for these supernatural actions to be quite fun and somewhat chilling in places. The opening setup which is soon revealed as the reasoning for her return, provides the proper starting point for suspecting the ghost and the haunted radio are connected and it only grows the more they stay there. The use of the ghost as a distinct metaphor for abuse doling out her deranged powers and hauntings as a way to strike out against those that make noise as all of these are entered around noisemaking and are trying to quiet her from alerting the more dangerous entity in the house. It's all quite fun here as far as the reveal of the ghosts' true purpose and what the need to be quiet is for since this all ties into the backstory reveal of the ghost having to issue out the treatment for his misguided means. The symbolic nature of their plight together is quite fun and leads to some fun moments here but this is also the film's issue where some of these scenes come off as repetitive since there is only one weakness to fight him off that ends up resulting in the same type of combat sequences so this is quite overly familiar and makes the film a bit longer than it should. This is pretty much the main issue here holding this one down.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Violence, and scenes of child abuse.

A very deep horror movie
likeu674 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately, the current generation of people do not like the horror content unless there blood and gore. This movie is one of those horror movies which delivers without any gore scene. (barring the ending) I really want to thank director and writer for making this movie. Actors have acted really well, specially the lead actress. Please do not believe in these negative reviews and give a chance if you like good horror content.

To the crew of this movie - please do not get discouraged by this. I am really looking forward to a potential sequel (or a prequel). I hope the writers of the movie has one in their plans.

Beware Of Old Objects
ladymidath4 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I know there are a few negative reviews but I didn't think it was that bad. It was slow in the beginning, but it did deliver the goods.

I did like the dark somber atmosphere that helped give the movie a real creepy feeling.

The acting was quite good, and I found myself enjoying the music.

While this is not of the best horror movies, it kept me watching and that for me is the main thing.

It's light on gore and it does have few jump scares but not that many that it gets boring. The story itself centres on an old radio that;s haunted by the spirits of a young girl, her mother and violent father.

The only thing that puzzled me a little was there seemed to be two endings, or rather, a good ending to the movie, then a whole different ending again. I would have liked to see a movie about the portrait at the end though, I think that could be a great movies in itself.
