Frenemies, Frenemies, just a perfect Blenemies
bkoganbing15 January 2012
Shake It Up Stars Belle Thorne and Zendaya and Stefanie Scott of ANT Farm star in this latest Disney Studio teen offering Frenemies. It's a tribute to today texting culture. And it's a trilogy.

Act I is your boy and dog story with Nick Robinson as a science geek and his best friend, his dog Murray who is real intuitive and smarter than a lot of people. Also he's a good judge of character as he spots how shallow teen queen Scott is and the girl for him is Mary Mouser. After all anyone who is an animal lover has got plenty going for them.

Taking center stage in Act II are bloggers Belle Thorne and Zendaya who go to school with Robinson, Scott, and Mouser and have recorded their story for posterity. The two best girl buds are put to an acid test when they compete for a position with Jessalyn Wanlim's magazine and her character is a light version of Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. Will friendship trump ambition? This is a Disney Studio production so you know the answer.

The third Act is a female version of The Prince And The Pauper as Mary Mouser meets her rich teen princess look alike and both decide they'd like to live the other's life and do for a week. The consequences aren't quite like the Mark Twain story where the fate of a kingdom was in the balance. Still with a high school musical type finale it all ends on a high note.

Not a bad film, I liked the first story best, but then again I'm a cat lover and no one comes between him and me.

Frenemies? Heck yes.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is far more than just another Disney movie. The main idea is that two people, even Bffs, can become enemies. Another thing that should be paid attention to is the idea that Julianne, played by Stephanie Scott, uses people to get a good grade. It's a more kid friendly approach to the idea of using people, but shall not be taken as a joke. Overall, it was a very cute movie that should be enjoyable for kids and adults alike. I think it's good that they have different stories throughout the movie so it keeps you sitting there, wanting to know what's next. I highly suggest this movie to young teens and kids out there that have light enough expectations to give this movie a chance. It's not your average mediocre Disney movie. It was very well done.

Really Disney?
ctlnm129 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This movie shows that Disney writers are really running out of ideas. This movie is really three short films featuring three clichés stuffed into one movie. Each part would have made a good movie by itself. But together, the stories were awkwardly crammed together and didn't transition well.

The first part is about a boy whose frenemy is his dog. He and his dog have a "fight" because the boy's girlfriend tricked the dog into flushing the boy's prized award. This part was the best and wasn't as much of a cliché. It just didn't seem as good overall.

The second part is about two girls who run their own fashion blog. Their friendship breaks apart because only one of them is asked to be an executive at a huge fashion company. The whole "friends competing for one job" has been done too many times already. I could already see how the fight would resolve from the moment it started. They also pulled the cliché "we're best friends and not even you can pull us apart" thing.

The third part is the worst of all in my opinion. It's the classic "Prince and the Pauper" act. But the Prince and the Pauper has already been redone in several TV shows and movies. I was so bored with this movie by this point that it became background noise by this point. I tuned back in to see that they somehow all saw each other at the dance.

Save yourself the time and watch something else. It's an absolutely awful movie.

I Don't Even
thirteensixsixsix1 September 2012
Okay, I won't lie; this movie made me chuckle a few times. But at the end of the day it was stupid, trashy nonsense and I'm not just saying that because it's a film aimed at kids. You can watch much better movies with your children. I'd even recommend "High School Musical" over this garbage.

Some of the messages it sends out are bizarre. Best friends are great and all but are you really going to let friendship get in the way of a huge career opportunity? And why did the first mindless tween let his dog get in the way of a relationship? Granted, it wasn't a very healthy relationship, but who knows how many more times he's going to put his dog before actual people? And as for act three... well, I don't even have to go into that. It was a total rip-off of "The Parent Trap." This film is a cliché storm and compared to this, "Camp Rock" looks like "The Godfather." By all means, skip it.

It's OK but Cliché
nissinmonde0228 April 2012
This Disney movie is actually a trilogy with three acts but the same plot. The first Act is about a popular, pretty girl who tricked a science geek, Nick to do all the work for their Science Project which they are supposed to be working together on. But It's not really about Stephanie, it's about Nick and his bestfriend, a dog. But of course, since it's a Disney movie, the act is supposed to end happily. The second act is about two best friends, Zendeya and Bella doing everything they can to win the editor job from each other, now, I can say this part is cliché because of it's ending. They remain best friends and nothing can tear them apart. The third act is a modernized version of the prince and the pauper. When Emma and Savannah, both played by the same person, first met each other they decided to switch because their life is so 'different' from each others so at the end, everyone find out and it turns out they are both comfortable with their own lives, which I'm not surprised with.

So all in all, I think it's not a bad film, It's mostly cliché best friend stuffs but can be pretty entertaining.

Don't watch.

Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely loved this pointless, trashy waste of my time. No, I'm sorry, I can't even be sarcastic. All I can say is the best part of the movie was when a nameless character yawns at the beginning of a scene. It's not even funny that I'm not joking. The three acts had little to no correlation at all, and the storyline was so shallow and predictable that I think my brain cells started dying. Yeah, this movie was a big "yay for friendship, let's make this into a life lesson" thing, but I think it would have been much better if there was at least some substance to it.

Act I- Cliché boy and dog, nothing can ever come between us except "super hot" girl who just wants to be science partners. Her evil plan to use the boy to get an A is revealed through some very loud whispers within earshot of said boy and dog, but only dog hears. Girl is rude to dog and boy doesn't notice (???). Fast forward through some uninteresting plot. End of act, science project that boy did by himself is ruined and mean girl runs away.

Act II- Much "eepppp"ing. So competitive. Such friendship. Everything resolved in end.

Act III- Two girls are identical twins, and yet later on revealed that actually they aren't related, they just happen to look exactly the same. And you'll never guess what they do-they switch places!!! Never saw that coming! And after a day in each others' lives, they want to switch back! But then they don't (???). At the end, the high school relationship is resolved because the boy didn't care that he was being lied to, the conceited jerk gets dumped, the uptight parents each tacos, the girl gets her forbidden puppy, and everyone suddenly appears for a dance party.

If Disney-and any other corporations that appeals to the young people in society- really want to impact children, they can. But not by making these mind-numbing movies that teach "friendship is important" (not saying it isn't). How about a movie that teaches real life lessons, like how to be a decent person and treat people with respect, or how it is more important to succeed in high school than it is to have a boyfriend and be popular (with someone other than a rich, white suburban girl as the protagonist)?

Or not.

Good...
RosanaBotafogo16 April 2023
Best friends Halle, a sober nerd, and Avalon, a preppy fashonista, see the chance to turn their Geek Chic fashion blog into a magazine when a major publisher discovers them and sees the power of reaching young people that the blog has. However, their friendship is tested when they receive the news that only one of them will be an editor, starting a war to show who has the most talent - even worth dirty games and going over friendship.

Bella Thorne and Zendaya acting together in the same film, all little girls, read too much, three basic, silly and cute little stories about teenage rivalry, love, friendships, professions, in short, superable and watchable... And the worst, the third and last story, the most cliché of all, it was the one I disliked the least, jeez...

Not Great At All! Warning: Spoilers
Now this movie has some really unhelpful advice to your kids, most of it would be only successful in an ideal world. It's split into 3 parts each mentioning something about a terrible moral judgment, I'll spoil the basics. 1. There's this kid who for a simply girl; tells his dog to get out, (whom I expect he didn't have the best relationship with anyway), later he finds out that she's been going out with a few more guys because of another girl who has a crush on him. 2. A couple of young teenagers who are extremely obsessed with the fashion industry, (whom nobody at the school knows about for some odd reason), are invited for a job opportunity and bump into some narcissistic adult. They are eventually told by her that only one of them can have a job, so they both go through some bogus random coincidences to interview the exact same guy, after that's done they realize he was a fraud and both of them submit the same exact story for the job. At last, both of them are rightfully denied because the business lady can't afford 2 people. 3. Two girls who look exactly like each other decide to swap their lives, and everyone is too big of an idiot to notice that something doesn't seem right. They eventually decide that they want their lives back and finally put some random impacts on the other people involved.

Basically I would not recommend this at all. There are tons of great Disney movies I would recommend over this, and more realistic and believable.

not good
SnoopyStyle6 October 2019
Avalon Greene (Bella Thorne) and Halley Brandon (Zendaya) used to be BFFs. Now, they're frenemies. Same goes for their various fellow teens. Superficial Julianne (Stefanie Scott) uses science nerd Jake Logan (Nick Robinson) to partner up with for their science project. His dog Murray is too smart for her tricks. Skateboarding Savannah (Mary Mouser) seems to like both Jake and Murray. Then there is Savannah and her rich doppelganger Emma.

I don't like Jake's temporary turn against Murray. I don't like either Avalon or Halley. By the time we get to Savannah/Emma, I stopped caring. The cast is filled with interesting up and comers. It's fun to see the kid actors trying to do some acting. Splitting the movie up into three sections does not help with the flow. Overall, it's not good.

This thing of frenemies needs to stop right now
arielsiere2 October 2022
Well Disney Channel you just made a very cliché movie with characters that are stereotypes instead of being unlikable, most of the jokes in this movie are not funny, this movie tries too hard to make you laugh but in the end it fails miserably, at least the soundtrack is alright but this is one of the worst Disney movies from 2012 along with Secret Of The Wings, if you want to watch a better movie from 2012 go watch Brave, Wreck It Ralph and Frankenweenie they are better movies than this unfunny movie, not only is the worst movie ever made by Disney Channel along with Teen Beach, Kim Possible (2019) and The Thirteenth Year but also very boring if you ask me.

One movie, three awesome tales.
sanchuj4 May 2017
'Frenemies' was the first movie of this summer holidays and I loved it very much. There were three stories in it and I like them all. The first story was about a boy and his dog. The dog was so cute. The second story about two thick friends who does everything together, they have never separated, but one it will be tested when they seek the job at a fashion magazine. And the third and final was about two girls who alike. the movie ends with a wonderful song.It was different movie than I thought.one of the best Disney channel movie.

Warning: Spoilers
well i must admit i am a man and am 22 years old and should probably not have really enjoyed this movie at all but however i really enjoyed it very much so much that me and my little sister watched it twice in one day and it was even better the second time a very cute and funny story about friendship and how far you will go to save a friendship in danger to give you a little bit of the story OK well i will just tell it to you there is this guy whose best new girlfriend happens to not like his best friend who just so happens to be his dog come to find out the girl the dog has in mind is so much better than her because the girlfriend turns out to be a total flirt. now on to story two there are these two girls who have been friends for years and they both apply for a job but there is only one problem only one of them can get the job and both of them want it. now on to story 3 ever wish you could have a different life well Savannah 'cute girl from story one ' just happens to get that very wish granted one day when she meets a princess who just so happens to look just like her and the princess also wants a change so they swap life's and suddenly realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence but i loved this movie and i think you will too no matter how old you are or if you are a male or female
