The Alf/John plot line continues to feel like someone making a mountain out of a molehill but it's rescued by some pretty good last scenes. After ranting and raving for most of the episode, Alf sits down and realises that he can't keep clinging to the past and he has to let the world move on without him. It's a nice touch too that John isn't triumphant about his "victory" but is genuinely disappointed to see Alf go.Colleen's pretty good once again as well.
There's some wonderful byplay between Nicole and Indigo here, with the latter being a good supportive friend:In fact, she's probably the only person in this episode who is unquestioningly supportive of Nicole. While the patronising lecturer is a bit one-dimensional, the other two people Nicole meets come across as genuinely decent people who don't know how to react.Morag has a chat with Marilyn and finally reminds her of a few facts that might resolve this messy situation...until Marilyn says the wrong thing at the wrong time to Nicole and stirs things up again.
