Cringe in a good way and hilarious even if exaggerated
Near-L16 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The bomb app having a help service is so over the top yet i couldn't stop laughing. Sally scene slowly became even cringier than the finale of season 2 with everyone forcefully going to greet her for what she did on stage that was also too much. But i get it, she is a hypocrite she did it for the glory and when reality hit she couldn't maintain the integrity of the personality she created in her mind. I couldn't even remember that first killing scene but then understood it was from season 1. Very good episode overall even with some forced parts. I think the ratio of comedy and realism in this show is perfection. Fuches is hilarious even when he is being pure evil.

Where can I download the Detonate app? I'm asking for a friend.

But seriously, what an episode! They really are destroying everything Barry has in this season!

I like how they're just going through every plot point and ending them and creating new ones so quickly. Normally, you would say they're rushing it and hurts the story, but surprisingly, they don't feel rushed at all. In fact, it would be a little excessive and boring if they kept this cat and mouse plots for the entire season.

I don't know why I keep saying this, but I really didn't find any humor or "the funny" in season 1, but season 2 opener quickly made up for it, and fortunately, this episode and season continue to be funny as hell as well as cringey and awkward - the intentional kind, with Sally - and I love it. This just feels like a complete 180 from what season 1 was and the comedic scenes are hilarious and goofy. I really appreciate the comedy of this show.

If I had to make a list of most hated and despicable characters from the shows I've watched, Fuches would definitely be up there. Like there's actually nothing to like about this guy and the actor does a great job. Not to say that there are likeable characters in this show! (Other than NoHo Hank) But the pettiness and narcissism of this guy is just on another level. He needs to go. In fact, he needed to go a long time ago, but obviously writer would have little to no characters or material to make conflicts for Barry.

I've read some reviews regarding the character Katie, and how she's a woke character shoehorned in the show for no reason, and I expected it to be really cringey, but it's really not, and she's not as annoying as others make her to be or as I expected based on reading the reviews. It wasn't the best way to further Sally's plot by bringing Katie into the picture so she can be her "snap back to reality" alarm, but it was still decent and makes sense from the perspective of Katie and Sally.

And I'm glad that they didn't make Barry seem more of a psychopath - which he is - like in the first 3 episodes, and he does a good job at the end of this episode. But let's be honest, we all knew they weren't gonna get rid of Cousineau, and it was only a matter of when and how.

Seems like that now Barry has pretty much lost everything he had and it's interesting to see where they're gonna take the story from here. Obviously, what Fuches did in this episode is gonna somehow bring Sally and Cousineau back in the picture, but yeah, Barry really has nothing now.

They really did end a lot of plot lines in this episode didn't they? It's obvious that it's not actually the end for none of the plot lines, even the Cristobal one, but nonetheless a lot of plots progression happened in this episode.

All in all, a great episode with pretty much every plot lines and loose ends from last season and previous episodes 'seemingly' tied up, and new ones opened up. The goofy comedy was on point again, and the cringe was really strong with this one.

That last scene was pure gold. This season seemed to be slipping a bit last episode but a great redemption here with funny writing that ties in storylines from the previous seasons. Now I also wish to try all the sauces at BWW.

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 4 is an emotional whirlwind. It manages to hit touchy spots, and the characters shine in new ways. It is a turning point for the show.

Bringing back previous events of the series, the audience sees right away karma is coming back to hurt Barry, slowly but surely. Fuches gets his way. Sally comes to a realisation and stops her relationship with Barry, just as this one broke his own relationship with Gene.

The episode is pretty sad, but I'm happy Barry is at least on good terms with Noho Hank. Cristobal survives barely, and Fernando dies. The scene involves an hilarious call to a detonation app company.

All around, it does feel like the direction of the show will be changed forever. No more acting classes, and the relationships are ending one after the other. I'm guessing we will now turn to Fuches' pack of angry panthers storyline. It'll be interesting to see how the showrunners manage to depict every character and storyline apart from each other from now on. And who knows, maybe these characters will reunite sooner than expected...

Back on track...and then some
krupocin-116 May 2022
My opinion was a little unpopular, but I found ep1 & 2 to be a little off and just overall bland, not up to typical Barry standard, in my own humble opinion at least. I personally don't love the Barry/Sally abuse storyline, idk to me it just feels a bit forced when looked at in the context of Barry's previous behavior around her, even though I know the writing on this show is brilliant and they've been setting the groundwork for this to at least be a possibility since S2.

My point is though, besides that (which still isn't bad by any means) I feel like this show is now two weeks in a row, 10/10 firing on all cylinders. The writing and the comedy is as good as it's ever been and these last two episodes have been disappointingly short... at least that's how they felt. Can't wait to see where this all goes, the set-ups for where the story is going is just edge of your seat stuff...and Hader, just wow, I didn't know he had these performances in him!

Great episode, but Katie is annoying
ratpackaustin2 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had a little of everything. Great comedy in the customer service scene, deep sadness in Barry and Sally's relationship, and an awkward and hard to watch Sally premiere speech. The only gripe I have with this season so far is Katie's character. She sees Barry act like a complete jerk one time and labels him violent. It makes her character kind of the opposite of what she wants to be. She wants to help women and avoid men with bad tendencies. But just like how her and sally are fighting to remove the victim label from women, she's throwing labels onto men after only meeting them once. She's of course right about Barry being violent, but there's no way for her to know that. Just seems like she only exists for the subplot.

Customer Support
bbevis-4795416 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Probably the funniest bits of season 3 so far have to be Barry and the detonator app on his phone. From Noho installing the app on Barry's phone and accepting all Barry's preferences, and to Barry having to call customer support to blow somebody up. Hilarious bit. It was refreshing to get some great comedy in All The Sauces amidst the last few episodes heavy drama.

Sarah Goldberg nailed her performance this episode. I've mentioned that her particular subplot is not that interesting, but Sarah's performance is consistently engaging. Her acceptance speech was HARD to watch. After the episode aired, I thought to myself everything she has been through to get to where she is now. From her abusive relationships to constant self-doubt in the beginning of her career. I'm worried this bit of happiness may be short lived because Barry is always defying expectations.

Fuches...Fuches is such a slimy rat. It's interesting and depressing to see the repercussions Barry's violent occupation has on the average person. Then to see Fuches take advantage over their grief reaffirms how much I hate him.

Then you have Gene's life turning upside down in the blink of an eye again. Barry oddly enough actually helped Gene get his career back on track, and despite everything, incentivized him to stay in LA.

On top of all of this you have Sally breaking up with Barry. It only makes the wait for next weekend all the more harder. With all of these ingredients mixed together I can't wait to see what happens next.

Laughed out loud
mayerglevy3 June 2022
The bomb scenes were great, loved the sense of alarm the bombs constant warning messages (in a language i couldnt pick) brought the characters and then the app scene, I laughed through that all from parking lot to detonation.

Brought back the hilarity of old 'bum rush' scenes from first season.

This season is in a good place.

It's a shame the last thing that happened to Barry, his past was almost buried, this is going to open a wound, everything is falling on him on the other hand I'm happy for Hank x Christopher.

...a disappointing 3rd episode. This one hit all the right marks of drama, action and dark comedy. The build up of tension worked so well. The final scenes between Barry & Sally and then Barry and Gene are exactly the reasons on why I love the show. Can't wait to see what happens next.

This is more like it!

Being a huge fan of both Season 1 and 2 I felt like season 3 hasn't quite touched me in the same way. That all changed with this latest episode! That mix of suspense, raw emotion, drama and comedy was fully present and accounted for. I loved every moment and was on the edge of my seat at times. Incredible acting, beautiful cinematography and lots of laughs! 9/10 can't wait to see how the rest of the season goes!

Anti-hero is becoming villain
rmmil16 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved Barry seasons 1+2, and I thought season 3 started out well.

But, as season 3 progresses I'm noticing a trend. With bits like "Barry the abuser" the writers are slowly transforming the character of Barry from "anti-hero" to villain. It's a subtle but distinct difference.

In season 1-2, it was still "okay" to root for Barry, but now they are giving him character traits to purposely make the audience dislike him.

I get it, since there are no actual consequences for evil people in real life, we have to use cinema to portray a world we wish existed.

But Barry is at its best when, despite everything, he's still the "hero", but that is now slowly being lost.

My guess is eventually this season or next Barry will commit a "bridge too far" act like killing Sally, and he'll go full villain by then. Not looking forward to this transformation, I hope I'm wrong.

Not enjoying the season this far
kevinmichaelcoil16 May 2022
I'll start with the positive points. The app sequence was comedy gold! I also like the continuing Cristobal and Noho Hank developments and how things are looking up for Gene's acting & his family. Everything thing else was just a major bummer. Sally is a superficial hypocrite. She consciously treats Natalie as sub-human every day and she has been treating Barry like a lapdog, ordering him around every day. I don't believe the close-minded conclusion of her Gen-X co-star is justified. And Fuches? Even at his best has always been the worst for Barry but at least in the past their were some redeemable characteristics. Now I just hate every scene that he is in. Regarding the producers even the lack of a behind the scenes and the strange few second next episode preview feels like they are saying "we know how we made you feel and honestly we just don't care".

Happy Days

Warning: Spoilers
The berkmangoesboom scene with the helpdesk was hilarious to the sublime for sure. Sally's breakup (or uncoupling) with Barry was devastating for sure.

I wonder what season 3 would have been if the pandemic hadn't occurred. Would Gene still have been running his acclaimed acting school I don't know. Barry's grip on Gene's family is quite chilling.

S3.E4 - The Bomb [8.6/10]
panagiotis199319 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S3. E4) My Reaction / Review for Barry Season 3 Episode 4 ''all the sauces'': Episode 3 was good and I gave it a rating of 8.6/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. So Barry will kill all the Bolivians with a bomb? For NoHo? This could be more complicated than what Noho thinks. Fuches obsession with Barry is so unhealthy, he needs to let go. The bomb doesn't work? Damn. Sally is living the dream. The whole bomb scene with the customer support was really funny. Im glad Cristobal didn't die. Sally and Barry broke up? I didn't expect that, that sucks and it doesnt make sense, I feel bad for Barry. Overall this was a really good episode, my rating is 8.6/10.

Not an incredible episode, but the customer service for the bomb detonation app was one of the best moments in the show's history. Relatable and outrageous at the same time.

What has this show become?
adelnasser-6099813 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps I just don't have experience with relationships and how they work, and I understand Sally still experiences trauma from the time with her husband, but to me it feels off. Barry in no way was justified for yelling at Sally a few episodes earlier, but Sally breaking up with him because of it?

To me barry has usually been fairly nice to Sally albeit some minor setbacks that were usually in the beginning of season 1. After that point, their relationship only get closer and stronger so to me after another minor setback it seems odd she breaks up because an acting friend says two sentences to her about Barry being a violent guy and she decides to break up with him a few minutes later? It genuinely makes no sense to me and only makes Sally from being unlikeable to unbearable.
