Great Movie
geraldyelverton2 August 2015
I just finished viewing the film Translucent Unicorn, and I would like to say that I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Robert Kouba, both the writer and director of the movie has really outdone himself.

The futuristic disaster film is not only strong in plot, but also features great cinematography.

Clocking in at just under three minutes the film is short and to the point without a lot of filler. To the filmmaker's credit, to be able to pack enough substance into such a short time frame is difficult, and he should be commended for his efforts.

I look forward to what Kouba has to offer in the future.

Very fascinating!

The post-apocalyptic scenarios are always fascinating, because each writer has a personal and absolutely creative way to represent what will happen after the end of humanity. Also I was impressed by the fact that he managed to do it all in a very short film, lasting only three minutes! I believe that in this occasion Robert Kouba gave the best of his ability as writer and director, in fact I really recommend the watching of this short film to all the fans of the genre, because it really deserves full marks. Also I think it's very original the way the issue has been addressed: the story of the unicorn has no counterpart in other short films or movies, so this also is noteworthy.

Solid given the director's age

Warning: Spoilers
"Translucent Unicorn" is a live action short film from 2010 and it runs for only minimally over 3 minutes. This is the very first career effort by writer and director Robert Kouba who was probably not even 18 years old when he made it and taking that into account, it is a respectable outcome. However, by general standards, it is a bit on the forgettable side as we see a criminal intruder (played by the director's father apparently) pursuing his evil plan. Overall, it's a bit of sci-fi, a bit of crime, a bit of thriller and a bit of drama, but not really enough quality-wise in either area to truly make an impact. Sure it's pretty difficult to make a convincing and dramatically relevant film in under 200 seconds, but I have seen it happen already. This one here only stays the attempt and while I think Kouba is talented, it is somewhat difficult for me to jump on his bandwagon from what I have seen so far, including this genuinely mediocre little film we have here. I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended.
