Bland, generic Hallmark drivel
caseybones8 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Hallmark seems to be stuck in a rut, using the same script over and over.

Beautiful, successful female lead with good job that everyone loves. Her boyfriend is a pompous ass given only trite lines and written so that it's clear that he's going to do something selfish and alienate the heroine. In comes the new man on the scene for some contrived reason and after some requisite dislike, they find they are soul-mates and fall in love. End with heroine misreading the signals and getting ready to leave when new love interest bursts onto the scene to save her. Most of the Christmas movies from Hallmark have the same plot so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that this is no different. The only thing missing is some cheesy snowfall at the end which is required for Christmas movies.

They definitely need a new writing staff.

Another Hallmark Formula
mammamia70112 October 2020
Here's to Hallmark's formula romance movies. Yes, it's typical...girl meets boy....but in this one neither can stand each other! Of course, the fairytale happy ending. I've watched this movie a few times and enjoyed it every time. If course it's not an Oscar movie. You don't watch Hallmark for that. Instead we watch to escape and enjoy the happy enings.

Repulsive Opposites Attract
boblipton10 January 2012
The Hallmark Channel scrapes the bottom of the barrel -- I hope -- in this would-be knock-off of WOMAN OF THE YEAR. He's an incoherent sportswriter who doesn't own a shirt with a collar who has written a book. She's an obsessive-compulsive control freak who does some sort of makeover show for the paper's affiliated TV station, called upon to give him a makeover for his upcoming book tour. Of course they fall in love, but first we have to endure ninety-minutes of obnoxious pretty people. At least they probably are obnoxious. We are given no more sense of who they are than I have just given you. Our only reason to wish them well is that their friends are even more overtly annoying than they; he's got a stoner friend and she's got a self-involved boyfriend and a looks-obsessed girlfriend.

No one expects anything new in the way of story lines. This one was old when Shakespeare set Benedict and Beatrice wrangling. Still, if the hacks who produced this wish us to look at this plot yet again, they need to give us something: characters we can care about, situations that are novel or a couple of jokes that are well told. This one offers the viewer nothing, except that they are good-looking young people. So are their vile friends and I don't care a fig about any of them.

Blah, boring, etc

This was barely ok. It just wasn't interesting or in depth at all. Everything was predictable (though improbable). The writers really need to work on their scripting.

Absolutely Loved It!!
smithduke11 April 2017
I recorded this and deleted it without watching because of the bad rating and reviews. It came on Hallmark Channel again and thought I give it a shot. Wow am I glad I did!

Both lead actors had great chemistry and charm and it came through on the screen. I adored the character Pete!

There were a few times I laughed out loud. Honestly, if you think you're getting an Oscar worthy movie from Hallmark, you should know better. I suspect people who gave this bad reviews are not fans of this type of movie.

Those who do enjoy Hallmark movies, I promise you that you will love Fixing Pete. Honestly, I think it was much better than the recent movies Campfire Kiss and Love at First Glance.

Give this movie a try.

Not perfect, but wonderful and feel-good
DaggerSpawn8 January 2012
Not perfect, but wonderful and feel-good. It is the kind of movie you can enjoy alone (even if you're single!) - you don't have to have a date to enjoy it. It is a good movie for a single hopeless romantic. The beginning half had some moments of incredibly brilliant scripting (I laughed or chuckled several times during the movie). The latter half took some stretching of our ability to believe and somewhat less brilliant scripting, BUT, it was always feel-good and good-natured throughout. Generally compassionate and considerate characters throughout as well. So 1.75 thumbs up from me. I was impressed with all of the actors' abilities as the movie progressed. And I am left smiling after the movie and in a good mood! So overall, it was good.

One of the better ones
fandomfatale21 November 2020
Much better than the majority of similar movies. Good pacing, not a lot of irrelevant padding or unnecessary conflict, a couple of laugh-out-loud moments, good chemistry between the two leads.

A lot of these made-for-TV romantic not-quite-comedies-because-they're-not-very-funny have the same build-up. The familiar formula is here but the build-up is a little different, it's got a slower burn with a lot more not-realizing-they-have-feelings-for-each-other-yet, which I prefer.

Clever idea for a movie, Hallmark! It was great! Solid 8 Stars!!
huggibear10 April 2017
This is now at the top of my most loved Hallmark flicks. Hot lead actress and a very wonderful total makeover for a sexy image lead actor. Awesome acting as well! Pete has gorgeous eyes! They would make a cute couple! This movie deserves a higher rating! I adored it very much! Hallmark lovers, rate these movies if you like or loved them! They deserve your take! And IMDb is an awesome website for movie lovers, like myself.

I Liked It

Warning: Spoilers
Fixing Pete is about Ashley ( Brooke Burns) who in order to get a promotion to fashion editor, must change sports writter Pete( Dylan Bruno) who is going on a book tour. The problem is Pete is a total slob, with no social graces. Ashley is the total opposite: Someone who plans every aspect of her life. She was even going to marry someone who was identical to her except they are male, and had the proposal words picked out in advance. Spoilers ahead: Of course they do get together. But it is because Pete could make Ashley laugh ( something no one could do), and when she made him desirable to other women, he only had eyes for her. Character growth in movies always makes things better, and these two by getting together, improved and married to each other. Pete by not being a slob and ending up with a beautiful woman who loves him, and Ashley by learning to enjoy life, and being with someone who it only loves her, and puts her first, and once again only has eyes for her.. As Ashley said at the end: " I set out trying to fix Pete, but I ended up fixing me."
