Effective but Routine

Warning: Spoilers
House Episode 7.10 - Carrot or Stick is a very typical episode of this medical procedural show. It contains solid performances from all of the cast (though Jesse Spencer retains his tendency to over-emphasise key lines and moments.) The plot follows the typical line of multiple mis-diagnoses before the right answer is found.

The distinguishing characteristics this time round are that things do not necessairily end well for the guest characters with both requiring at least a partial liver transplant to survive and no guarantee that this will be forthcoming as well as House's plan to get Cutty's daughter into a prestigious kindergarten. That this does not succeed is no blight on the scripting which shows a burgeoning relationship between House and Cutty's young daughter.

The evolution of the titular character over time has been fairly logical and the ongoing development of House's humanity one of the joys of the program. Despite its repetitive nature I remain optimistic about future episodes.

Pretty good

The case is one of the more interesting ones this season.

I don't know why they think Rachel is so gifted but some cute scenes with House .

Chase has the more interesting subplot. I wish more was centered on his life especially since his divorce.

Chase's plot was downright criminal

In general, I've loved House and have been rewatching it on and off for years now, often times as background noise that doesn't distract me as I've already watched the episodes so many times.

However, everytime I come across this episode, I just skip it because it makes me want to hurl. They tried to "humorize" the actions of a psychotic individual. The girl takes a naked picture of Chase and posts it online and runs credit card fraud on it because she is miffed by his behavior? In what universe is this funny? This is criminal behavior to the core.

And then Chase asks her out instead of suing her both for personal and financial damages? That was just the cherry on the top when it comes to normalizing mentally ill behaviour. But given what we know about hollywood today, in retrospect, it makes sense.

Seems like this episode was written by someone who hasn't mentally grown beyond the age of 12 or 13.

Warrants a mercy killing

It's almost irrelevant talking abut plots etc no with House as they are all recycled or re-purposed from other shows by now - this one no more or less than any other. what is obvious is that, due to the violation of to of the golden rules of weekly drama (i.e never break the sexual tension and introducing a child = death), the show is no circling the drain in an increasingly tight vortex and needed to be put out of its misery. Ne character Masters is pointless and obvious a quick geek girl grab for the fanwank demographic, Laurie is shambling around doing his best House impersonation but even he can't remember what his motivation is and Taub is possibly the least interesting character ever on any TV show. And yet there's another season and a half to come? I have a sick curiosity to see how they pulled it off, but I suspect they don't and they just stagger on regardless.
