Buuuutttt. It is just a good bit of fun. And I've had enough of all the serious and depressing tat TV being dumped on us continuously, so I'll take this any day.

Interesting mess
supermellowcali2 March 2022
This series (season 1, 7 episodes) is a cluttered parody of superhero stories that fails as much as it succeeds. The failures include a very bad choice for the lead Hawk, who is uninteresting and silly while attempting to be the smart "Batman" leader, and the lack of humor that might've made a script like this work. The odd mishmash of graphics are part nostalgia, part video game and part animated superhero stuff which, again, lacked humor and ends up being an irrelevant hodgepodge of junk. The successes include intriguing social-political commentaries (despite including the tired theme of secretly-gay men hiding their love) and some brilliant editing work. Not much to redeem this one, but it's still a data point in the world of superhero stories so from that perspective, maybe it should be assimilated... while you wash the dishes or something.

Interesting story, bad actors, unique visual style
mazeltovmichael3 March 2022
Most of the acting was bad. Some of it was intentional, going for an "over the top" style, but that doesn't excuse everything. Worst for me was Night Hawk, sadly he's the main character.(Also, I hated Night Hawk's feather helmet. It looks cheap. In the animations,it's smooth and looks much better).

The animation is great. Sometimes confusing but it carries the plot along easily, showing some great scenes. On the other hand, in the non-animation parts, the special effects and costumes are especially weak.

The story is engaging, but at times can be confusing.

I found the end to be the weakest part of the plot.

Don't listen to reviews
jaydepalma2 March 2022
This is a great series that delivers everything you'd ever want from an 80s style tv series.. using a mixture of live action, animation, stop motion, 8 but and cgi this has everything to keep me glued to the screen.. they've even managed to nail the dodgy acting of the 80s movies that my generation all grew up loving.. superb series.

Painful
noawareness2 March 2022
It uses the "80s VHS Sci-fi" angle as an excuse for cheap sets, bad acting and using animation in favour of live action. It's really bad. Andy Milonakis was the only thing good about this.

Could not get far into this terrible show! :-(
stevebondi2 March 2022
I have enjoyed irreverent quality superhero shows like The Boys, Invincible, Arcane, The Legend of Vox Machina, and even Jupiter's Legacy, but this low-budget, low-quality-in-every-way, mess was so disappointing! :-( I could not get much beyond the terrible, low-budget cinematography / crappy visuals and weak backstory story telling :-(

Starts getting good in episode 4
Jack_C_3 March 2022
The first 90 minutes of Guardian are ADHD messes that flash hundreds of 1 second frames per episode. We are superficially introduced to the cast of jaded superheros, super villains, horrible politicians, and the dangerous world left by Marvelous Man's departure.

There is not enough initial character development to keep you focused, and I understand why so many viewers gave up. Acting is also intentionally cheesy with only a few capable of exhibiting real human emotions.

The mystery of a suicidal Asian superman was the only reason I didn't turn it off in episode 2.

It slows down to an enjoyable pace by episode 4. I really got into the story and character arcs. Give it a chance, but expect a dark dark parody with more head shakes than belly laughs. I am still snickering over the unexplained man in a glass cage and how Ravencroft stopped speaking Chinese that makes sense half way through his interrogation.

The show pays heavy homage to 8-bit video games like Mortal Combat, Japanese anime, Gumbi claymation, Adam West Batman, He-Man, Watchmen, the DCU, Terminator, and is easily as gory as The Boys. I am probably missing many other references, but these are the most obvious.

The last episode was more philosophical than I expected, but I agree with most reviewers, hate the ending.

If there is a season 2, please slow down the schizophrenic pacing so we can enjoy the animations. It feels like a lot was left on the cutting room floor to fit 30 minute episodes.

Avoid at All Costs
gordonclark-6352618 March 2022
This is absolute sh@t, I'm a big fan of the whole Superhero thing but this just left a horrible taste in my mouth, the acting is Terrible, it looks like it was filmed on an old Nokia 3310 and the costumes are the worst things I've ever seen on TV. What a massive waste of Money.

Why isn't this being raved about?
NeilisDead2 March 2022
Looking at the reviews here I'm a little perplexed. The styling in this show is astonishing, the story may not be the most original but it's a blast. Reminded me of Watchmen in quite a few ways.

Look, it doesn't follow the Marvel formula and I do love Marvel, but it's cute, different and just really good. I grew up reading 2000AD and comics were a huge part of my life for years, this is a genuine attempt at merging the formats and I think it works... brilliantly.

So, I'd advise ignoring the reviews and give this show a chance. If this isn't a cult classic in a few years, I'll pay someone to slap me 😇👍

Relax
justinmorello-628272 March 2022
This isn't the next justice league. This is a weird super hero comedy with an 80s vibe. Lower your expectations and realize right away this isn't DC or Marvel. This is for fun. Sit back, relax and enjoy the weirdness.

MadamWarden2 March 2022
I had low expectations but honestly, they weren't low enough. I couldn't endure more than 5 minutes of this try hard choppy mess.

Love sci fi, superhero stuff but this is not going to be one.

Be my hero and see if you can endure more than 5 minutes.

Justice League and Watchmen in one mutation.
DarkVulcan297 March 2022
If you are expecting an interesting story being told, we'll The Guardians of Justice is not that show, but if you are looking for a fun insane look at superheros, then The Guardians of Justice is what you are looking for.

It has a plot, but you are really looking for the insanity of the plot, combines the grittiness of Watchmen and the 60's campiness of Batman, and somewhat has a little 80's vibe to it. Also knowns being a somewhat parody of Justice League. Never takes itself too seriously. Not a masterpiece, but just a weird ride, I can't help be entertained.

It's a parody of Justice League with good Plot but
Reenoeh2 March 2022
..the scenes with actors are comically bad.

You can tell all the production money went into the animated parts, which are really good, lots of different styles of animation. The plot is good and intriguing too they even have some nice twists. The downfall really are the actors, sets and most importantly the costumes. I thought maybe they are intentionally bad as a parody but then they are not bad enough to make that obvious. It seems like they tried and failed and the plastic wigs.. well.. The idea on paper justice League, with computer game references in a dark setting with war knocking at humanity's door is a great concept the execution was lacking though...

A toothless superhero satire that disguises its lack of insight into the genre with an obnoxious mishmash of clashing styles.
IonicBreezeMachine3 March 2022
When Marvelous Man (Will Yun Lee), the world's most powerful superhero and leader of superhero team the Guardians of Justice, commits suicide on live TV the world is thrown into chaos. As the world mourns the loss of Marvelous Man rumors begin to swirl that Marvelous Man's suicide was staged and was in fact a murder leading to Guardian of Justice, Knight Hawk (Diamond Dallas Page) to unveil the true culprit.

Guardians of Justice comes to us from producer Adi Shankar's Bootleg Universe, a series of one shot fan films Shankar produces featuring copyright characters or properties in strange but interesting takes ranging from 5 to 25 minutes long with notable entries such as The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and Power/Rangers receiving positive attention in both fan niches and mainstream. Initially developed for HBO in 2015, the show instead has come to Netflix where Adi Shankar has produced the critically acclaimed Castlevania animated series (with a forthcoming spin-off in the works) and has further series based on Assassin's Creed, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, and Devil May Cry planned. Unfortunately Guardians of Justice is not on the same level as Shankar's other Bootleg Universe projects and overstays its welcome from the first episode.

The Guardians of Justice is a very thinly veiled satire of "dark and gritty" superheroes with Zack Snyder's stylistic approach to the DC Universe a clear target. The thing is though, people pretty much already know the issues of DC properties going super dark because these problems have been ingrained with the company's handling of their superhero properties since the miniseries Identity Crisis in 2004 where they retconned the plot point of Dr. Light raping Sue Dibny which spring boarded the DC Universe towards darker subject matter. Add to that the superhero deconstructions like the Amazon adaptation of Garth Ennis' The Boys which is now three seasons and a spin-off deep and the short lived series Jupiter's Legacy there's really not much Guardians of Justice can say that hasn't already been said. So what does Guardians of Justice bring us? It keeps shifting styles every three minutes. The show uses a mixture of traditional animation, 8-bit sprite animation reminiscent of old video games, and traditional filmmaking that makes the show feel like a lower tier version of one of Arrowverse's superhero shows. The style changes are incredibly irritating with the show's tone all over the map and the aggressively dark subject matter mixed with hammy overdone deliveries just left me exhausted from watching it.

I've only seen two episodes of this show, but that was plenty enough for me to say this was one of the worst shows I've seen of recent memory. Adi Shankar is a fantastic producer and from his work on 2012's Dredd and the excellent Castlevania animated series you can tell he's passionate about gaming and comic media, but the Guardians of Justice is just a terrible misfire. It regurgitates commentary on the tonal and creative direction on the past 15 years' worth of DC Comics media but can't say anything new and throws a bunch of random styles at the wall hoping something, anything, will stick. The Boys and Jupiter's Legacy both make the same points, but they're also entertaining and engaging. Guardians of Justice is a sad entry in the Bootleg Universe and pales in comparison to other Bootleg Universe productions by Shankar.

Should be titled,"The Garbage of Justice!
qui_j5 March 2022
This is the worst satire of the Superhero genre one has ever seen. Managed the first half of E1 and that was a very painful experience. Really required grit and perseverance to stick with it. Where does Netflix find this garbage, and more importantly, why would they pay for it to be aired! This cannot be a lengthy review as the word "garbage" would repeat too often!

Confused gif with a twist
bentram3 March 2022
I'm not sure what to make of this series, just finished the 7 episodes. One thing is for sure I've never seen anything like it, definitely unique. I mean I guess I liked it, I gave it a 7 like a possessed idiot but isk it had so many elements to it and unconventional events and things you would never expect. Lots of cool animation fast paced scenes and violence gore in real shot and animation. Got a little woke in places, still unsure which side of the aisle it leaned kinda had pokes at both. Idk there's just too much to digest and breakdown about this series. I'd say definitely give it a try and see if it's something that intrigues you enough to finish. I personally am waiting for season 2 oddly enough because it did leave an open ended story line that makes you want to.see how it plays out. It's just a crazy show lol.

Just nope.
apr-1698220 March 2022
Couldn't get past the first episode. Who is even the main character in this series? The first episode is just a mish mash of 1980s stuff. Where is the story? Who the heck are we following? What is the purpose of the character? What does the character want or need? This is just plain terrible lol.

8/10 - Loved it!
kamen-kunchev2 March 2022
Take away the roided-out highly paid actors, take away the expensive but quickly ageing CGI, bring back nostalgia, add a detective storyline and boil with lots of action while keeping it borderline cliché (in a good way) - you get an easy-to-watch show with plenty of twists that you can binge and feel good about it.

I want to see more!

Is it crap? Yes. Do I love it? ALSO YES!
donttouchmeprimate24 May 2022
There isn't really much else to say, it's a nostalgic and super hero ripoff from everything pop culture over the last 40 years.

The acting and story telling are pretty poor but somehow that adds to my enjoyment of it.

It's the type of turd that you push out and you're so proud of your achievement that you take a picture and show your friends and family.

I gave it a chance...
thekid-0640613 March 2022
And could not get out of the first episode. It is basically theft of different Marvel and DC characters and story line wrapped up in a script world that uses old video game catch phrases. The only thing worse than the completely unoriginal concept is the acting. If they make a Season 2, Netflix should be ashamed of itself for wasting money that could be used to do some good in the world!

If Robocop met The Justice League and it was directed by Sam Raimi.. under the influence of mushrooms.. super cool And Diamond Dallas Page is the lead! Get past his lack of acting and you think it's maybe just supposed to be that way and just accept it This series for what it is..

What is Better Than a Suicidal Myth of an Asian "Superman?"
yuncheng_wang2 March 2022
To be honest, this is the best parody of the DC world I've ever seen.

Most parodies try to make you laugh - this one shows you the joke and doesn't tell you about it.

Most parodies try to make you invest - this one is no exception - it throws tons of information to exercise your brain.

Most parodies develop mental representations among viewers - this one casts doubts on whether the DC you knew was false.

Most parodies focus on one author and one work - this one elevates the theme and transcends itself to satire to address multiple social issues such as race and science.

Yet, through its deeply hidden mask of seriousness, I was able to appreciate the nuance and parody of this movie.

We definitely need more Asian superheroes - the main reason I was so upset as a teenager was that every time I woke up, stepped to the basin, and looked into the mirror, I saw a man who didn't look like my hero spider-man at all. But now, with The Guardians of Justice, I'm finally able to look at myself and say, "it's the face and body shape of The Marvelous Man!"

Mortal Justice Kombat League.
daze-0949018 March 2022
Poor acting, weird plot, badly executed animation of several different styles and more twists than a pretzel thrown into a blender. This is in parts bewildering and ends on a very sour note. 7 episodes is more than enough.

rajikn-7322216 March 2022
The creator was super high when he made this...n Netflix was super crazy to greenlight this s**t...should have stuck onto animation n would have been a decent watch, maybe even really good...but this is purely self Indulgent crazy film making with horrible editing and below par performances...tried my best with fingers crossed hoping it would get better, but couldn't even finish the first episode...got nothing to say except u had the chance to make something worthwhile but u squander the money and the opportunity away...so sad..
