Interesting concepts but doesn't reach its full potential
Floated24 December 2022
Released earlier in the year, Wifelike is not the typical human/robot type film. It does contain interesting ideas but overall, it seems like it tries being more clever than it should be. And taking itself a little more serious.

Elena Kampouris is the clear standout here where from her opening appearance, we get a sense as to how this may unfold.

The film is definitely engaging and not boring with its constant turns and several twists but it's climax isn't great. The end twist is quite predictable where there were a lot of clues along the way.

Otherwise Wifelike is solid but don't expect another Ex Machina.

Meh...
ammoncrossette20 January 2023
Basically soft core porn with a plot and a used-to-be actor, Meyers Story moves really slow and isn't thought provoking at all. Concept is good but film lacks any grit. Given the guy's job, there are some tragically missed opportunities. Could have been a really great, gritty, dark film... but the whole thing looks like it was filmed in a dentists office. There's no real sci-fi aesthetic and costuming looks like it was by actor's choice. Dialogue is robotic (& without irony) and the characters meant to be mysterious are laughable. Way too slow in all developments. Had potential but unfortunately falls short. All that said, it's watchable.

As a black comedy it could have worked.
Sleepin_Dragon21 September 2023
Grieving widowed William Bradwell is given Meredith, an AI companion, programmed to simulate his wife in all ways. A criminal organisation is stealing other AI copies and reprogramming them.

The opening sequences made me think we were heading for a black comedy, it certainly had the opportunity to go down that route, instead they tried to make a sci fi thriller, it just didn't work.

What I found pretty funny, I couldn't tell who spent more time in makeup, Meyers looked like he'd spent days in markup, come on!!! Kampouris, I am sure she had some fun with hair and makeup, so long as she could get in there that is.

I thought the acting ranged from poor to fair, I thought Elena Kampouris and Jonathan Rhys Meyers had some decent moments, and a few scenes where I wanted to shut my eyes. Some of the supporting cast struggled.

Nope, it just doesn't work.

4/10.

Good Ingredients Poor Execution
krisnadexter31 May 2023
In the future, people could buy robots to be their spouse. A very sexy, good looking, obedient spouse. Jonathan Rhys character buy one of this robot called Meredith (played by Elena Kampouris) to replace his late wife.

He is a detective who work for the company that make the robots. Because there's a terrorist group that against the exploitation of these robots and trying to sabotage their AI. His job is to retrieve all the kidnapped (or freed sex slaves) robots that was ruined by the terrorist group.

To be honest the story is interesting, it has everything to be the next great sci fi movie. The mystery, the twist, and if handled correctly, packed action. But I guess this movie was made with minimum budget.

We have a company that make advance robots. But the office looks like something you see in the 90's, boring and dull. The action is cut short. They could make great scene when he tries to infiltrate the terrorist base and beat the bad guys. But the action is so-so.

Camera movement is stiff, bland cinematography, and CGI that looks like early 2000's tv shows. Some actors are underperformed. I can continue for longer.

Elena Kampouris is the only thing that worthy of your attention. Her acting is good. And the sex scene is an eye candy for sure. Despite bad things the story isn't boring and quite engaging. I like the concept of dreaming robots they make. And the twist is kind of predictable, because of too many clues scattered in the movie.

If only this movie has better budget and director. This movie can be the next big thing actually.

Kampouris!
nufc_geordie22 December 2022
This movie is like a recipe gone wrong. All the ingredients are there in the proper amounts, it was mixed and cooked according to instructions, but the thing that came out of the oven was only fit for the garbage. The story is a mixture of several already existing movies that you will recognize. It seems to have all of the recurring metaphors associated with this genre but without the subtleties necessary. The acting is poor especially from Rhys-Meyers and Kampouris, who are both much better in other roles I've seen them in. My conclusion is that this movie was conceived entirely to show off Elena Kampouris naked or in some kind of contrived sex scene. There are at least 10 movies I can think of that deal with AI, exploitation and unintended consequences much better than this, I'd suggest you watch one of those instead!

Not as bad as the ratings would make you think
acsavulescu2 September 2022
This movie and its premise had a lot of potential, however the story is somewhat lackluster and unimpressive. Some of the acting and parts of the plot are also quite questionable.

However there are also some good parts. The actress playing Meredith is actually pretty good at interpreting an android and very likeable. Actually I liked her as an android a lot more than when she was playing the real person. Go figure.

I also enjoyed seeing a lot of beautiful half-dressed women in one place, which is mostly a big no-no in nowadays' movies.

Another thing I liked was the soundtrack, it has some good futuristic tunes and sound effects.

Overall, I'd say this movie is enjoyable/watchable if you have like 2 hours to kill.

It's a bit disappointing because it could have been great, but it's only halfway decent.

Decent but flawed sci-fi. Worth a watch.
stevelivesey6718 August 2022
It borrows lots from previous sci-fi classics, The Matrix, Bladerunner, and Stepford Wives, etc.

The basic plot is good, direction is sound enough, some of the acting is a bit wooden, but, cut it some slack because, after all, it's a low budget movie.

Don't expect so much and this ok, not a classic, but watchable.

Stepford Wives revisited
Boristhemoggy18 August 2022
While this is rooted in the original Stepford Wives it does have a new twist. That twist is good and solid enough to make this film different enough to be worthy of a watch without thinking of the Stepford Wives.

I like the story line, and I suspect strongly that in other hands this film would have been a solid 7. However I only rated it 4.

The sets were really nice, albeit basic. The photography was very competent and it was paced well, I never found myself getting bored.

The problem? Poor acting, weak direction, B movie dialogue, and the attention to cheap thrills instead of concentrating on a great dramatic storyline. A very mature director would have brought this story home and entranced us all.

I would definitely recommend it as a Sunday evening thriller, as long as your expectations don't go too high.

Awesome performance of Elena Kampouris.
majidrazzak198217 February 2023
I like the plot and story. And movie was also good. I give this movie 9 stars. Performance of Elena Kampouris was awesome. More improvements were required in the story, but anyway, movie was awesome.

I like the way the director showed the art.

Dialogue was robotics but awesome.

Movie was slow and it was the beauty of the movie. Full of suspense and I watch the movie till end.

I recommend watching this movie. It is very interesting.

Elena Kampouris performance as a robot was really awesome.

Very enjoyable. A lot of nudity
roxlerookie19 August 2022
Very enjoyable overall. A lot of nudity and scantily clad women, which was very nice, I'm only a man. Very nice aesthetics overall.

The story could have been better, in that it raises interesting questions about society, but they aren't addressed much at all.

The end feels wooden and somehow trying to redeem itself for all the earlier nudity.

I'm no filmmaker, i definitely wouldn't have done a better job, so i enjoyed it. It was executed well. I'd say it was largely acted well.

Isn't meant to be a masterpiece, and on that basis, I'd say it's very much worth a watch.

softcore sci-fi
SnoopyStyle12 October 2022
Wifelike is a company which creates robots sold to men to be obedient sexy wives. William Bradwell (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is purchasing Meredith (Elena Kampouris) to replace his late wife. He works for the company. Ironically, she was an advocate against the company.

This has the potential of an interesting sci-fi movie, but it struggles to get away from the 90's late night cable softcore porn feel. Kampouris plays an awkwardly submissive robot. There are some issues with the premise construction. It seems crazy to have a dream mode for robots. It makes no sense. I don't mind the twist in the movie, but it could be done better. I have a better twist. Meredith could be the real person under some sort of mind control. Maybe implant a chip in her brain and come at the premise from that direction. The movie is trying to deal with sentience of robots and it's a mixed bag. I want the idea to be done well. This is a second-rate attempt.

Vehicle for soft porn
Badger12104 April 2023
Although not a very original premise, the story of an AI becoming sentient or perhaps a human consciousness being put in an android is very interesting. This however quickly shows that it really isn't too interested in that.

Within seconds we see the company, Wifelike, really isn't interested in you having a wife as much as a sex slave. A few more minutes later and we have the first soft core porn scene; I couldn't make it past that part.

This is not a highbrow story. But, if you like a very slow pace movie, nudity that shows how Hollywood really feels about wives and women, sub-par acting and story, then this is for you.

I can't
Headturner1118 December 2022
Believe I'm rating something this low! I've never really liked myers and wasn't sure it was him at first. I've been into period pieces lately and had to try to watch The tudors many times before I could finish but ended up really liking it in the end! I just bought him as Henry the VIII and now this! This was pathetic and low budget! Have they watched Humans or Better than us?!? The later took me a bit but Humans is a masterpiece! This is so cheezy and the AI look like regular people. I gave up after like 30 min! And I'm being fair as I nw this. If you want to watch a similar film that is actually good watch Zoe!

Straight-up plagiarizing Westworld
FeastMode4 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I would bet every single dollar I have that whoever wrote Wifelike has watched Westworld. There are around 10-15 ideas or concepts stolen directly from that incredible and thought-provoking series. Only with Wifelike, those ideas and concepts aren't explored and are criminally underutilized.

This is a very low-quality movie, even by streaming standards. I could tell immediately. And there are lots of things to make fun of or roll your eyes at. For example, we get the hilariously bad cliche of one character finding something bad about another, doesn't tell anyone, and goes alone to confront him. Even though he knows that person is willing to kill. And to be extra convenient, he brings with him all of the evidence. So dumb it made my brain hurt.

On top of all that, this movie is entirely predictable. I think it would only surprise novices. It's a terrible and useless movie. (1 viewing, 2/3/2023)

karlevans-7568221 August 2022
Elena kampouris is mesmerising as companion meredith with a dark past and a even darker husband played by the ever reliable John rhys meyers.

Perhaps a little bit blade runneresque exploring the companions possible new surroundings but a half decent subplot lurks beneath merediths robotic err lifelikeness after all she steals nearly every scene, John rhys meyers plays the widowed good/bad guy with something to hide.

Well worth a look it's no blade runner but it has something to say, shh here's hoping for a sequel !!

Well, I know what James Bird's sex fantasy's ....
caf-197 December 2022
...are...How pathetic that it matches the same sex fantasies of a 16 yr. Old computer geek. More pathetic still, that this laugh-fest dared to take itself seriously; and even MORE pathetic is that several reviewers gave serious, thoughtful, 6-Star Reviews!!😆🤣.

I assume they were still basking in the afterglow of their hour-and-a-half 'Date' with their hand and the Greek Amazon, Elena Kampouris. Too bad about her bizarre posture though.... must have been all those tortuous hours in stiletto high heels; even as she knitted.

I laugh out loud.

Then I ponder a moment about the future of mankind based on the intelligence shown in this film...

This movie is seriously mis-named. Nothing in this boy-fantasy is 'Wifelike'. It's real title should be "Amazon Fembots in Stilettos" I suggest we run a contest on a better re-titling of this expensive, embarrassing, attempt at sci-fi meets porn, although I get to judge the titles, soo, mine may still win. But C'mon everyone! Let's give it go, OK? There's some darn clever reviewers out there. I see huge potential for the words, blow, up, and dolls.

Please rename this little stinker with it's real proper title. It will be 250% more interesting than this James Bird joke on film making.

Clunky acting, but gets good towards the end
Glyn-52-91024213 September 2023
So, where to start?

It's all a bit 'Blade Runner' esque, with replica women to replace peoples wives. I'm sure there is a whole debate to be had about the morality of that, but I'll leave that for other people to discuss!

The story centres around William and Meredith, and Meredith waking up for the 'first' time with William.

There are a load of sub plots going on, which at first all seem a bit random if I'm honest. There are also some things which made me wonder if there were some continuity errors, or scenes that hadn't been thought through properly as they seemed out of place or meaningless. This made the start and middle of the film actually a bit disjointed to watch.

But... as the film got into its last third, all these disjointed parts actually came into play. So something that seemed to have, at best, mediocre writing.. turns out to be a lot better written than I'd first thought. I'm actually really glad I saw it out to the end as it made everything make sense.

For that reason I'm going to watch it again in a week or two, as now I know the ending I think I'm going to get a lot more from a re watch, now I know what I'm looking out for.

The special effects, music, and actual filming and sets are really good. It does feel like a quality production. The only thing that lets it down really is some quite poor acting, which is a shame, as I don't normally pick up on bad acting, so for me have to done so means it must have been bad.

The exception here is Elena Kampouris who was excellent. The way she plays a sort of robot character, initially very clunky, but learning and improving as she goes along was played really well. She honestly does act and appear to be a robot, so she is certainly the shining star here, and hopefully this will get her more work in the future as she deserves it.

So yeah.. 6 out of 10. Not a terrible film but not a great film either. If you like Elena Kampouris and science fiction then you'll probably really enjoy it, as she carries the film through to its reasonably good ending, almost single handedly!

Movielike
joesmomberg16 February 2024
It's almost like a real movie. It has actors, sets, props, and even something that looks like a story, at first. But the actors refuse to act. The sets are not futuristic even though it's supposed to be the future. The plot is like the plastic banana version of a fruit. It looks real but when you try to take a bite, all you get is a mouthful of Styrofoam. There's no substance to this movie. I think it is actually the worst thing I've ever seen, and I do really watch a lot of nonsense on Netflix. It is nothing more than softcore porn that went a little overboard with the plot. Nothing more than a waste of time.

An acceptable Sci-Fi movie
Sherminator201628 March 2023
If you like sci- fi movies I believe you gonna like this movie. Althought it has more drama than action against other sci fi movies e.g. Terminator, but I think it's considerly good to watch for one time atleast. Humanity against technology is always a considered title in this kind of movies. There are at least two sex scence inside the movie but theme of fiminist exists inside. I think it can have series of movie like this.

In summary if you like sci- fi movies, drama movies and crime movies without action, this movie is to help you have a good time otherwise don,t waist your time, there are a lot of movies you can watch!

An OK Scifi movie with some flaws.
rcr-3751028 August 2022
Look, this wasn't a terrible movie. It was fun. It kept my interest enough to care about what happens. I loved the wardrobe, sets, and futuristic aesthetics! The setting was a believable future.

The acting was good from most of the cast. Elena Kampouris was fantastic as a robotic wife. I'm wondering if some CGI trickery was involved because she's so beautiful. Almost too perfect.

And the movie started off well... but then the plot kind of went off the rails. Some big holes, more questions than answers, a little sloppy. I think it was meant to present the viewer with moral, philosophical conundrums but they got lost along the way in the foggy plot.

Also, maybe it's just how I was reading it... but there was a theme that felt man-hatey or like the demonization of men on a biological level. If so, that I didn't care for.

Nevertheless, out of all the movies of this type in recent years, I liked this one not best but amongst the better of them. It's worth the hour and 45 minutes to see what you get out of it.

Flimsy writing, wooden acting
wesleythegnome14 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
While on the surface it tries to be a piece of commentary on the objectification of women, it still manages to objectify nearly every woman in the movie. So points for trying, but the execution isn't there.

There are several unnecessarily drawn out softcore porn scenes, which I'm sure will appeal to people who get off to those. I felt it got tedious after a while. As the movie progresses, it's also revealed all those scenes are rape, which made them extra unappealing to me. But it shouldn't be an issue for anyone who enjoys seeing women being objectified and raped.

The acting is largely serviceable, but it's not good. A lot of it is wooden. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is also wooden, but still pretty well-cast because he's meant to be creepy and villainous, and he exudes both these qualities in spades throughout the runtime. I think the only downside is that since they cast the villain as the lead, nearly every scene has high creep factor. Every time the movie zoomed in on his expressions, which is constantly, it made my skin crawl. But I think he'll probably be less off-putting to people who don't have to fear a predator like him.

I also thought it was disappointing that the robots look and act like humans acting like robots.

The ending is contrived, as are some of the aspects throughout the movie. Why give robots a dreamscape at all, and then maintain the service, when it's clearly just an added vulnerability? How do you install a dead brain's memories into a machinal one? Why do the undercover robots flip off Jonathan's character when their long-term survival depends on keeping a low profile? Why does the movie act like high-end sex robots existing, which are probably only accessible to 1% of the population, is having a noticeable effect on marriage and birth rates? Even if half of all men own a sex robot, in what way would that keep human women from conceiving and raising a family? How can an undercover organisation succesfully be led by a robot who doesn't know what or who she is for potentially years at a time? How does Jonathan's character successfully hide a kidnapping and the murder of two people, so much so that he can order a perfect likeness to the woman he kidnapped and then made disappear, and no one bats an eye. She didn't have any relatives? He had to provide her murdered body so they could extract her memories somehow, and no one checked or noticed her cause of death?

Overall, I'd say this is a perfect movie if you like the genre and aren't bothered by the quality of the writing or acting.

Many think that the only reason this bad attempt at a movie can be seen is the beautiful Elena Kampouris
Victor-8765514 December 2022
Many think that the only reason this bad attempt at a movie can be seen is the beautiful Elena Kampouris, with which I partially agree, and why not totally agree? Because they have applied vulgar filters from TikToK and Instagram and ended up with a product similar to the horrible dolls manga, anime or whatever they are called. She was left misshapen, almost ugly, with a small head, a very long neck (which she doesn't have), and a bulging body that bears no relation to the small swan-like head and neck that was drawn for her. The rest totally bad and forgettable and this sadly I think has to do with rising filming costs in a declining world economy, it's all AI, CGI and special effects. If the producers of this monstrosity thought that they were going to be able to film sequels, well, let them start looking for other books or, hardly, to do things right, because this, my dear friends, is eroding the film industry and will end it or convert it in a junk film factory for people who don't think or don't have anything to think with. Greetings and Merry Christmas to all.

Seeing Kampouris naked is the only reason to watch this movie
tugmyrugplz7 July 2023
As the title of this review suggests. There is absolutely positively no reason to watch this hob witched wretched piece of cellulite. It's no secret the sly writers and director did this film as an excuse for our poor innocent little Elena Kampouris to appear in her first on screen nude scenes.

Well let's see here, the acting is very poor especially from Rhys Meyers who has been better in other roles.

My conclusion is that this movie was conceived entirely to show off Elena Kampouris naked or in some kind of contrived sex scene. And it worked for the most part. Admit it! Take a gander at all the neckbeards who viewed this film solely for that reason.

Although this movie isn't great in the slightest. I do believe it could become a cult classic in the future because of our miss Kampouris.

Please come back in 5, 10 years from now and you'll see how big of a star Elena Kampouris has become. Incredibly proud.

This is disgusting
mike4evolution18 September 2022
I was never interested in writing reviews before, but I really felt I'm compelled to just say it. This is the worst, stupidest and the most disgusting movie I've ever seen. I never felt disgusted by a movie like how I felt by the end of this silly feminist rubbish movie. NEVER before. This is an insult to Sci fi movies and to Robot/AI movies and to all movies. They got all things wrong intentionally. This fake fake plot is so stupid it makes me want to vomit. I hope one day Skynet becomes a reality just to send a terminator to torture James Bird (writer and director). For real, if you want to feel disgusted about yourself for watching such a stupid movie just give it a try.

Elena Kampouris is brilliant as synthetic Meredith
ungawa-27 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Compliments to Elena Kampouris, who acted brilliantly as synthetic Meredith. Even down her tiny gestures and facial expressions, Elena is convincing as a "synthetic" woman. She's very impressive... a big star in the making!

The movie was very good until the last portion, when James Bird's script took a sharp turn. Abruptly, Jonathan Rhys Meyers' personality shifts and he becomes the villain of the story. Also, the character of Meredith is used as a vehicle for the film to preach a feminist activist message.

The last portion somewhat spoiled the overall movie for me personally. I think it'd have resulted in a better movie if James Bird had taken his story in other directions.
