It was hard to get into...

Warning: Spoilers
But later half of the season is definitely paying off. All the plots are interesting and loose ends are being tied up. Amado is definitely a character that I can get behind for. Progress that Breslin has made is impressive as well. I love that now I can actually understand what goes behind the scenes of drug cartels. Most of these decisions are very well thought out and not just senseless violence. They are suitable for their purpose: survival and prosperity. They are sort of like business moves but for narcos business.

Victor learns how to get himself killed
silverton-379592 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Victor has set himself on the path of trying to find what he thinks is one serial killer preying on young women in and around Juarez. He becomes desperate quickly and, grasping at straws, tries to call Walt Breslin on the number on the business card he has. That was a serous mistake. He should have never kept that card because having it found on him would get him killed. What he does with it is going to be a fatal mistake.

Breslin has been shown to be an amoral sociopath, who is self-corrupted by his ambition. When Victor gets Jaime on the phone instead of Walt, he has jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire. Jaime's self corruption makes Walt's look harmless by comparison. Jaime hooks Victor into spying on Amado's murderous brother. Jaime also shows that he doesn't even consider Victor worthy of protection, even at the most basic level.

Victor is doomed to die, and for nothing at all. DEA has nothing to do with murders of civilians in Mexico, had no power to intervene at all, and Jaime knows this, but he keeps luring Victor further into his scheme against Amado. Jaime is stupid and evil, and like evil people everywhere, he's stupid by definition, though exhibiting a sort of low cunning from time to time.

Another point to consider, though no reference is ever made to it, is that it's almost certain that Jaime was on Felix's payroll when Kiki was murdered. That kind of factual information is rarely included in the Narcos: Mexico scripts. Too much is fictionalized and too much is left out of the story. This is TV, after all, and it's written to entertain rather than to inform. There is at least one informative documentary on this subject that is available for streaming on a platform other than Netflix. Look for it.

La Voz
bobcobb30114 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was not old enough to remember the Murrieta assassination, but it is always shocking when things like this happen. It was good to address that, but this episode did not really showcase any immediate repercussions for it.

As someone who did write and was in a newsroom before I cannot imagine the pain of having bylines removed from articles, news content or op-eds. A different time and a different setting though and that is a key factor when it comes to the series.

Entertaining enough, but this is thankfully the final season of the show as it has lost a bit of its luster this year, no way to argue otherwise.
