SummerSlam 2022 Thoughts
SummerSlam 2022 was the 35th Annual SummerSlam PPV event produced by the WWE. Held at the Nissan Staduim in Nashville, Tennessee on July 30, 2022, this was the first SummerSlam in WWE history to take place in July. This was the first WWE PPV event following the retirement of WWE owner Vince McMahon, who had served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company since 1982.
The Good - With expectations being pretty low for me, a lot of the card kept me invested. Being on a hiatus is always worth it with the consequences is always having to catch up. Anyway the opening match up was very good and looks to get even more interesting soon after what happened after the match. Miz vs. Logan Paul was fun with Logan having the highlight of the night. The tag team match was great but the most important match of the night turned out to be an Instint Classic. Another positive was how fresh things felt with no Vince under hand. The commentary wasn't irritating and we didn't have much silly stupid conclusions.
The Meh - While not a major issue, show did lack a little star power. Wether it's injuries or part-timers, it outta be dealt with. Pat Mcfee vs. Happy Corbin was fun and entertaining but not quite amazing. The US title match was fine but felt like a typical TV match with a formula of attacking early only to backfire.
The Bad - The No DQ tag team match was pretty bland. I think what hurt it was it being a NQ but was hardly any different from a normal tag team match. It was cool seeing Edge return though. Ronda Rousey vs. Liv Morgan ended up being nothing. It was short and hardly anything happened. Looked more of a setup for the future. The last thing was the main event. While I mentioned it was amazing, a big issue was the ending not making any sense of the ref counting while the stars were still engaging. Basically a rule broken in the last man standing.
Overrall - A very good show. It's not one of the best PPVs of all time. It has potential to be one of the most memorable shows depending on the aftermath but at the end, I really enjoyed it. Double thumbs up
