It's Basically Season 3
nicholast19903 December 2022
No spoilers. I saw the only review was a non-fan of the series so I thought I'd give something that might be more useful to those looking for opinions.

The movie was okay. It gives you the closure you're wanting for each of the five girls, and leads into that closure with a heaping pile of the drama you know and love from the series.

It's because of this that it's so unfortunate that it was a little bloated. It know it's adapting the final few chapters from the manga, so it's hard to say where the blame lies, but it feels like it spends a bit too much time getting where it needs to go at times it felt like it was stalling just for the sake of it. I think if this stuff all happened in a regular episode I wouldn't bat an eye, but sitting down for a movie, you sort of hope for a more focused, polished experience, and they missed the mark a little on that.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy the movie. As a fan of the series I was happy with how the ending was handled (even if my top girls didn't come out on top :c). It has some great moments that let the characters shine, which is why I loved the series in the first place, but I don't think it hit the heights of the second season for me.

Basically, if you like the show, you'll be happy you saw this and experienced the end, but don't expect anything too crazy.

Also for those of you wondering, Uesugi does make his choice with some time left in the movie, so you do get a sort of epilogue for how everyone deals with his choice, and he does pick one girl, no cop outs here. Even if he didn't pick the one I wanted, I think they did a good job of selling why he picked the one he did.

unexpected ending
The-Last-Sith-Lord16 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just watched the movie at the theater in Japan today.

I haven't read the manga, so my review here is just based from what I have watched on the TV series and the conclusion of the story showed at the movie.

Full spoilers ahead.. be warned.

The movie is pretty long, 2 hours, and takes place at the school's festival and it's divided in 5 acts, each one showing the 3 days of the festival (from start, to end) and each act taking one of the sisters' story with the main character (Futaro) on each day of the festival. At the start all sisters asks to Futaro to say which one he will pick, and Futaro says he will give the answer on the last day of the festival. Therefore, on each act, you see one of the sisters declaring her love and stealing a kiss from him.

The movie itself is enjoyable, you won't get bored, but some parts feel rushed or meaningless. For example, the biological father of the sisters sudden appears to meet with Itsuki, saying he is her real father. That was really forced and it felt very dry. Why he was there? Why that moment? He had less than 5 min of screen time, and it ended just as a bad old guy without any emotion, I couldn't see any reason for this encounter to happen in the movie, it didn't add anything on the story. (to simplify the encounter: I'm your father / (itsuki) so what? / (father) you have to accept me / (itsuki) I don't, go to hell / (father) damn! Ok, bye) And what was the relation of Futaro's father with the sisters' step father and biological father? On the TV series they never showed any kind of relationship, and on the movie they didn't explain anything. Other meaningless character inserted on the movie was Futaro's friend from his childhood, the girl showed as if she was trying to guide Futaro into something (never explained) and then she just leaves the screen, I really couldn't see the purpose of this character on the movie (maybe on the manga there is some explanation?) About the end, Yotsuba ends being the chosen from Futaro. For me was kind unexpected, as there isn't much chemistry between her and Futaro. Btw, at the beginning Futaro says to Ichika he was planning to chose no one, but the sisters pressure him in making a decision and pick one of them, but all this pressure on him kind took all the emotional from the story. When he meets Yotsuba and tells he chose her, it was very dry and without any emotion at all. (it was like: I chose you, here are some chicken, lets eat together) And from this part to the end (around 40-30min I guess?) the movie try to justify why he choses Yotsuba, I guess his choice felt so unexpected and under pressure that even the writer though "why her?" , to use this much of screen time only trying to justify his choice. (Yotsuba is the girl that he met when he was a kid in Kyoto, but on the TV series, Yotsuba never showed interest in romance, she treated the main character the same as she treated other people around her) But I guess the main person to blame is the writer who made the main character so flat when is about romance. Futaro really never showed interest in romance, he never had this kind of chemistry with the sisters, he kind looked more like a "big brother" instead of a young age boy at puberty near girls. So we get this end where he is forced to chose someone only to end the story.

Quintessential Quintuplets Movie
jjvanderlaan14 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm seeing a lot of poor reviews just cause Yotsuba was the one who won out of the 5. With little prior development to her character with Futarou in the first 2 seasons. But it made the most sense, especially the movie shows you why they were the ones who ended up together.

I don't think Futarou forgot that moment he spent with Yotsuba as a kid hence why I kept his picture, and at some point along the line he was probably able to tell it was Yotsuba.

She was the one who seemed to struggle the most especially when it came to school. So them getting putting her and him together made sense in a way that he would be able to support her the most.

I'm giving this movie an 8/10 Simply cause it wasn't perfect yet it ended properly and the way it was suppose to. Cause yeah I was always team Miku I fully expected her to win and was hoping that she would. Heck even if Itsuki didn't really have the strongest feelings towards Futarou like her sisters but I have this feeling she should have won.

But, the reason why I gave it an 8/10 is cause Yotsuba is the one who won after all. The story made it make the most sense and honestly the way the movie played out showed that she was the most important to him. He loves and cares for all of them deeply but Yotsuba is the one who he loves the most.

Very beautiful and heartfelt ending to one of my beloved romance anime
rcrredeption28 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I accidentally stumbled up on quintessential quintuplets . I always feared a very bad ending to harem romance series. The protagonist does not choose any girl or chooses everyone of them that the usually happens in these types of stories.

But i was wrong about it.

It was my first romance anime my first harem anime and i developed a attachment to each character , each heroins precisely.

My beloved character was miki , nino , ichika, yotsuba, itsuki. Respectively.

This is a different take in usual romance anime rather than ending with word i love you it gives closure to all other girls each and every one of them.

At the end we can see a time skip to wedding were we see all the girls achieve something with their lives.

Most of them all there is additional content make us re-watch the anime in more with a different perspective which makes the ending so meaningful.

Not good movie that was needed for the series!
leadingrhyth4 June 2023
The Go-Touban series has always focused more on the sisters and their relationships with each other than it ever does with the actual romance plots. Each of the girls has gotten sufficient development over the series (although some are better developed than others), and that's still the movie's main focus and where it excels.

However, this had no right being over 2 hours long - a sign of poor planning and shoddy editing. Additionally, the animation & art, while colourful, is somewhat lacking for a movie production and ends up looking incredibly mediocre.

The sound design & soundtrack, however, are reasonably satisfactory, and the VAS have yet again done a great job at handling their individual performances.

It's a satisfying and tender conclusion to the series, but one that is otherwise overlong and bland.

Great movie if you enjoyed the anime (A great movie in general!)
hdscxpzsww9 December 2022
Great movie, it definitely wasn't what I expected but it was satisfying nonetheless. If you like the anime then you owe it to yourself to see the series conclusion. I walked in saying that if it didn't turn out the way I wanted it I would be disappointed, but the fact that I enjoyed it speaks to the quality of the movie as a whole. It has some touching moments and despite it being on the longer side it went by a little faster than I wanted it to.

I haven't gone to the movies in years, but this is a trip I don't regret making and I'll be buying the DVD when it releases.

(((((Team Nino forever!!!!)))))

An Emotional Film Festival Honoring Love, Joy, and the Unforgettable Adventure of the Quintessential Quintuplets
Mysterygeneration8 January 2024
Based on the well-known manga series, "The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie" is a romantic comedy about familial ties. The film, which was directed by Kaori, tells the tale of Fuutarou Uesugi and the Nakano quintuplets as they negotiate romantic relationships and sibling rivalry. The film embodies the essence of the adored manga, showcasing the quintuplets' distinct personalities through endearing acting and a striking aesthetic. The connection between the cast members-especially the gifted actresses-gives the characters more nuance and raises the story's overall enjoyment factor. "The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie" is a charming and approachable romantic comedy that perfectly captures the spirit of adolescent love and the delight of realizing one's own emotions.

Amazing anime
TheSquareTiger19 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Amazing movie to finish off the The Quintessential Quintuplets series with the quintuplets enjoying the Culture Festival leading to the last day where the quintuplets are in separate rooms to see who Fuutarou chooses which we all know who it is and I loved how it showed each of the girls perspective in the festival but I think, when Fuutarou chose Yotsuba, we didn't get to see much of how the other 4 felt and felt the ending was a bit rushed like he gets married to Yotsuba then suddenly he remembers the time the girls are choosing a place to go after their graduation ceremony, other than that I would recommend this movie to anyone and everyone.

really bad
karattt5 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Not really any character development and he picked the worst person he could have picked. Yotsuba a was such a pick me thinking that she was better than her sisters when they're the same. He could have picked anyone but yotsuba or the actress girl. The actress girl was barely there and i really don't know how they even knew each other. And the father thing was so random they probably threw it in there to change the boring story. And all of this (2 hours ) was in the span of 3 days and showed him dating each of them but that was also boring . The wedding was even more boring i didn't even want to watch it.

A Spoiler Free Review
stmc-2595919 July 2023
Ah harem anime. It's becomes a staple of anime. A genre like science fiction, comedy or action and like every genre you need something different to stand out. The Quintessential Quintuplets is one but unlike other harems where we wonder who the main character is going to end with, we know or main character will marry one of them. After two seasons, I thought we'd get a three season and more but instead we got a movie to wrap it up. I was a little skeptical at first but this one of one greatest anime movies from a series I've seen and I going to tell you WITHOUT ANY SPOILERS! This is my spoiler free review of The Quintessential Quintuplets movie

The plot is this. Following their summer vacation, Futaro Uesugi and the Nakano quintuplets Ichika, Nino, Miku, Yotsuba, and Itsuki, now third-year high school students, prepare for the upcoming school festival. On the day of the festival, Futaro invites the quintuplets to a room and confesses his love to them, but he tells them to wait until the end of the festival to know whom he has chosen among them. Each girl will get at least 15 minute segment. Showing a problem for each one and how they and Futaro solved it. In awhile this makes the movie the three season. It does get a little confusing at time but oh the pay off

So you can probably think that's all the movie is going to be but no. We see the girls past chase up to them in a way no one thought would happen but it does answer a big question I believe many where asking. Not to mention we finally see who Futaro picked and in all honesty I was absolutely surprised. I'm not going to tell you because this a spoiler free review but if you like me you'd be amazed. For the longest time, it looked like they were setting him up with one particular girl. That's not what happened and I loved that. It shows that just because you think it going the way you want doesn't mean it will. Still I'm happy for his pick and I have no doubt they will be happy together

Now I called this one of the greatest anime movies from a series I've seen. You are probably wondering why I said. Allow me to explain. Most anime movies based on series in my experience have tried to make some that wasn't close to the mark or tried to make something artsy. Ruining the film and quite possibly the show in general. For explain the Tenchi Muyo movies. The first was set in the Tenchi Universe world which is fine but most of time tried to something that's it's not. It still had action but only in the last 15 minutes

The second was just a Christmas special basically. I do like the background music and music in general but honestly that's probably the only thing going for it

The third movie you couldn't ven call a Tenchi movie. Just a whole different series with a movie. They just put Tenchi characters in. The art style was very nice. Down right beautiful. However that alone can't carry a movie. You need a story and this story is pretty weak

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying those were the worst. I'm just saying that I didn't find those stories particularly good. To each their own. However The Quintessential Quintuplets movie hits all the right spots to make it interesting while you ask who is Futaro going to pick. I know a lot of people are going to be either upset, sad or happy with who he picks but funny enough that's life. We often want this person to be with that person or we see things going this way rather than this way. Thing is we can't control others emotions. Just our own. You are either going to happy with his pick or upset. In the end I'm happy for him and his pick. This does make me wonder how this will affect the new anime they announced but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. If you want to see The Quintessential Quintuplets movie, it's on Crunchyroll. I recommend you watch after watching or for many people rewatching the anime. It helps. I hope you enjoyed this review.

A disjointed ending
ACollegeStudent30 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Rating: 4.0

It was a step down from the first two seasons and the ending was disjointed from the previous two seasons. The rationale for Yotsuba winning wasn't strong enough to nullify the two seasons of development from the other quints (besides Itsuki). Arguing that since Yotsuba was Rena, and the most selfless, and foreshadowed from the beginning doesn't excuse her lack of character or development. The final half had bloated plot points like the biological father arc which was only present so Itsuki couldrelate her resolve to become a teacher back to Futaro so she could get her "kiss scene", she should've just stayed neutral in the love square since she was never a major player in the plot or romance. The proof of this is in Yotsuba's and Futaro's awkward first date, there was no chemistry between them even up to their honeymoon where ridiculously all the quints join them. Why even marry her when you guys can't even share one panel kissing each other. It seems the author tried to please everyone and nobody simultaneously, I would've even preferred a polygamy ending over this.

Worst and unrealistic ending possible
aliriano-507259 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Imagine building up several characters and developing them. And then choosing the least developed and worst character of them all to be the one that the main character ends up with. The movie was also very much stretched, it feels like they made this a movie just for the sake of milking some money out of the series to be honest.

That was absolute torture to sit through, for multiple reasons
nicolasroop3 December 2022
I have zero knowledge about the series and after watching this in theaters, I will never bother to check it out. This was only made for weebs and horny teenage boys who want to fantasize about multiple unrealistic anime girls being obsessed with them. The 13 year old boy brigade that invaded the row in front of me couldn't stop making groping gestures at the screen and jerk off motions to each other throughout. I was literally embarrassed to be sitting and watching this. Storywise, it was one of the hardest anime movies I've ever tried to follow. Lots of exposition that felt neither romantic or heartfelt. Just excuses to be in love with the same man that meant next to nothing. Misogynistic would be the word that comes to mind when I was watching this, throughout the entire runtime. And worst of all, it was completely BORING!!!! There was absolutely no need for this to be OVER 2 HOURS LONG!!! I honestly cannot believe they released this in American theaters, and I further cannot believe I sat through it all hoping it would get better or have any point to make. Spoiler Alert, it doesn't. I mean, I thought Disney was the ones trying to groom kids with their latest venture, but this is indefinitely worse. Unless you're a fan of the series(not sure if it's comparable or not, never seen it and never will) or a horny 13 year old, I could not recommend more that you stay away from this piece of trash.

0 completely unrealistic anime girls out of 5.
