Thanks for debutant vinodh for adding a valuable underdog cop drama and his kind gesture....being new to cinema one can find few loopholes in the screenplay especially the villain's act of masking are childish,due to lack of inexperience but promises to be a handy director in mere future....
Vishal known for high octane action flicks wages a lone battle to save this flick does it effortlessly as a clever cop and boosts confidence at right times that saves the flick....a notable dedication...
Brilliant stunt choreography and camera work, especially the lighting in constuction spot are brilliant that forms the major asset of the film makes this product a watchable...
Overall a passable time pass flick to rejoice.

First off all hats off to director for come up with different point and screenplay. But the story is not stronger as screenplay, that's why we're not able to digest few scenes. Vishal gave at his best but needed some workout on physical appearance. Music and photography were good. Director might be new but his taking is commendable. Almost 60% of the movie predictable, he could add more commercials in the middle. He may think if we add other things that may spoil the story, but without strong story how can he survive screenplay. Villains are just ok. All the best to the team for next movies. Hope you will come stronger.

It was sounding like an interesting storyline because the hero isn't a higher officer rather a constable who was suspended. Logicless scenes and fake emotional scenes and painfully long idiotic zero-logic fight scene in the building made it a bad watch! To make matters even worse, all the self-explanatory scenes were narrated by the hero itself. Please don't waste time watching this crap! Horrible horrible songs, music director please don't do songs again!
Director has got some skills, but please learn the craft and write a good screenplay and then direct a movie.

So very bad guy does very bad things. Good guy happens to get an opportunity to punish the bad guy by beating him up badly. Now mad with fury, bad guy wants revenge. Unable to kill good guy directly, he sniffs an opportunity by holding hostage his girlfriend.... Wait that's "Ivan Vera Mathiri". It's the son here...
Laththi is an enjoyable watch with an impressive performance from Vishal, a minimal storyline held together by well shot, mostly over-the-top and fantastical sequences, obviously unrealistic action, and a rather unique tip-of-the-hat to laththi-wielding police constables. There are flaws surely, but in the end, it is quality entertainment that leaves one satisfied, if that's all one is expecting.
Begin plot: Muruganandham (Mn hereafter) is a suspended police constable, living an ordinary life with his wife Kavi and a son Rasu. He constantly seeks ways to get his suspension revoked, often meeting higher officials in public and attempting to get in their good books. All members of his family share a strong desire to see him back as a policeman. When a senior officer from Mn's past turns up at the hospital where Kavi works, he agrees to recommend Mn to the DIG, and Mn gets his job back due to the DIGs influence.
The DIG suffers personal humiliation at the hands of a certain Vellai, who happens to be the son of Sura, a dreaded thug. To avenge this humiliation, a day before departing to Australia, he kidnaps Vellai, puts a bag on his face, and coerces Mn into beating him up. Unbeknownst to Mn, the DIG captures the act while obscuring Mn's face, and puts the video up on social media as well. Enraged, Vellai seeks revenge, first from the policeman who beat him up.
So turns out, the bag put on Vellai's face had a hole in it through which Vellai could vaguely see his assaulter. So he remains adamant upon not removing the bag until he finds out who is responsible. Upon figuring out Mn's identity, they follow him to a desolate building where he is with his son, seeking to kill him.
Now the question: Will Mn survive or will Vellai have his revenge?
The answer: **Spoilers from here** A question put like that, in this context, can only have one answer. Of course Mn kills everyone and Vellai's revenge is unfulfilled. So turns out if was Mn's plan all along and it was he who led the gang to the building. He had been setting it up for a while, stealing weaponry from the police station and setting up traps in the building for an assault the scale of which he would need to survive Vellai's hunchmen. Rasu was never supposed to be there but events just pan out that way. He realized that sooner or later, Vellai would figure the truth out, and in order to save his family, he had to do something like that.
End plot.
So the movie has obvious flaws. Vishal is superman. He is SERIOUSLY WOUNDED. An eye needing sutures, but obviously he fights. However, the fights are not all Jackie Chan-ish or typical mass masala movie-like. You can still see the pain and the struggle so kudos to the team for that. The villain just keeps screaming, to the point where it gets laughable at times. That bag thing is surely laughable. It's obvious the director wanted to give the character some flavor, but this is not it. The songs are pretty meh, and the emotional sequences might feel like a drag at times.
Now with that out of the way, lets get to the good parts. Vishal. Well done. He looks the part. Irumbuthirai and Chakra had him looking in shape as a soldier, but in Laththi he certainly looks like the constable he is portraying. Somewhat rounded, down-to-earth, even his gait is different in this movie. The way he runs, too. Nice performance.
Now you'd expect a twist of the variety the movie has in store sometime or the other, but it still hits pretty hard. It is well placed, and well enacted.
The action sequences are well executed. The traps, the lighting, and the stunts, while definitely over-the-top, are still pretty entertaining to watch. I mean, who doesn't like to watch stuff getting blown up and an absolute underdog bash top thugs?
The BGM is pretty cool. Yeah the songs are boring, but the Laththi BGM, which plays maybe 3-4 times in the movie, is goosebump-ish. That intro shot of Vishal running out the truck, swinging a laththi to that BGM is pretty cool
That sequence where Mn has Sura at his mercy for his sons medicine, is also well executed. It is somewhat unexpected, and kudos to the execution
To conclude, Laththi is watchable as an entertainer. Do not expect an arthouse movie or a deeply provoking, intellectual, realistic piece of art. It is meant to entertain, and that it certainly does.

The story of this movie is quite catchy one, something like "Ivan Vera Maathiri" movie. I found lot of scenes and mass elevation are resembles to the Vikram Prabu movie. But still this could have been a great action entertainer. The poor body language, mannerism and too much of over acting in both mass and simplicity scenes killed it.
The good story was spoiled by "over dose" of action and fight scenes. Especially the flashback riot was pathetic and it could have been done in so simply in believable way. It was like RRR starting fight.
If you can adjust to Vishal acting, this will be a decent watch.

One of the worst movies I've ever watched. Stupid villain with a bloody plastic bag on his damn face half of the time. Father villain was even worse. Not sure if he knows acting. Vishal has surpassed marvel movie heroes in this one. No matter how hard he gets hit, fella still manages to beat the bad guys, even after getting stabbed. The villains could have finished him very much earlier, yet they were taunting with him unnecessarily. From the very beginning it was obvious what was gonna happen in the end. Just did not expect to be this bad.
Movies like this gets celebrated and the good ones gets ignored. Pongeda dei.

I start by saying, Congratulations to entire team because it's just a mind blowing movie, and Vishal you are just amazing, acting wow, I can still hear your voice where you call raasu, and one of the best movie to watch while. And we can see the real ness of character!! And this should be dedicated to all constables out there who are doing their best in their job, a new villain he did the best role, filmography was ultimate, direction was too good, at the you guys would have done differently, Lathi was nice, love from Karnataka and all the best to entire team, Vishal and others we will definitely accept this movie.

A Pakka Comeback for Vishal

Enjoyed the Movie from the start till end. This is an official comeback film for vishal. That Last 10 minutes vishal acting and stunt sequences vera level. The Storyline is a linear one. But the way director taken it is in hollywood level. Last but not the least. Yuvan shankar raja. No wonder why the vishal and yuvan combo works out really wel. BGMs are a major positives for the movie. A standing salute to peter hein master. The effort he taken for this film is really a hard work done by him. Lots of hurtings and the stunts done by him was mind blowing. A Visual Treat for every audience. Hats off to the whole crew.

Surprise that this movie is rated 9.2 .lots of logical flaws unrealistic fight sequence over acting emotional scene funny villian overall nothing is good in this movie. Screenplay is not that intresting story and scene are more predictable. Only one place where we can feel that something good is the weapon stolen scene but the execution of the weapon is complete flop. I could say this is not a come back for Vishal instead of this he should choose some content based story with good screenplay. This is the first movie for this director it's pathetic to see these many logical errors for his first film because one should more careful for his first filim because that gives a trademark for the director.
Don't listen to crtics, just enjoy this movie. It is a roller coaster.

I read bad reviews about this movie but man this movie is far from being just good, it is a very good action flick. The opening scene of this movie will give you a good glimpse of what is in the store for viewers.
No body show-off, no typical love cringe and no family drama. It is not perfect but a very good entertainer.
Choosing this kind of plot is proof that Indian film industry is developing fast especially south side movies.
Only sad critics doesn't appreciate these kind of movies. For them, Brahmastra is a blockbuster movie.
I am sure, its hindi dubbed version will be liked by every south movie fan.

Watching a good movie is one of my favorite pastimes. After a long day of work there is on other sensations such as curling up on the couch and watching a great movie. Epic stories throughout our history our best portrayed through excellent.. and the old bollywood Masala get actually old overall leave bollywood there is
Bikini shows and love drama. Bollywood must learn to make produce or direct films from south indian industry.
There is no bikini shows no heroine body presentation and no faltu story line. Simple movie and present it very traditionally without and vfx foreign shooting. They are simple and awesome.
