Too short
kigaiyuuto3 April 2022
Non-Indian reviewer here. Been waiting for almost half a year for this movie. Is it worth the wait? Yes it is THE BEST Netflix movie that releases this week although I wish it's longer. Compared to CMBYN and Badhaai Do this one has a faster pace. Although this also means not much is explored deeply especially in the second half which things progressed too quickly until the ending. But the target audience like myself should be really happy and satisfied with this movie, it has almost everything I want in a gay movie. Just not a masterpiece, sadly. But this is easily the best recent gay movie since Operation Hyacinth.

Beautiful and Honest...
agasi9993 April 2022
One of the best LGBTQ films I've ever seen. The lead actor Tanay is such a find! You feel every emotion he's going through and kudos to the director too for telling the story with such beauty and sensitivity. The only element that I didn't buy is how carefree his parents were, if you know Indian parents you know how nosy they are! Also the ending could have been slightly better it leaves us wanting for more..may be it was meant to be that way. The movie may leave you with a slight heart ache as you feel for these characters.

Absolutely worth it!
sapkotapradip3 April 2022
A subtle movie that you will definitely be adoring throughout the watch and later on. Definitely in love with The Colour Blue after watching the film. The film is a work of art, hands down. Simple characters with relatable issues dealt by them, you will be appreciating the film. The entire thing about the film is so realistic, so convincing, it's definitely worth all the hype, appreciation and word of mouth.

Subtle story, gripping aesthetics
jhashikha-823207 August 2022
The movie stands true to its title. The blue aesthetic used in the movie unravels hidden meaning and the emotions of the main character Tanay. The struggles gay people went through in the 90s has been depicted with a poise. The movie circumventing around the struggles of generation and gender makes it stand out.

The laudable job from the cast and warm background music is icing on the cake.

A must watch if you have patience to watch a smooth and slow flowing movie.

Beautiful cinematography
iammonay13 July 2022
Loved the cinematography-I have never seen Fort Kochi this beautiful in any movies - definitely has an eye for capturing stunning colours. Story is good and through the main character you do feel the emotions that he experiences.

Movie is a tad slow however, I enjoyed watching it.

Loved it!

As a 60 year old gay man, I have grown to really appreciate gay love stories. It allows me to dream what my youth could have been if I had the courage and society permitted it. It makes it even more interesting if you could explore what it might have been like to experience same sex love in foreign culture. Also reminds me that I regret not yet traveling to India.

its beauty
Kirpianuscus28 June 2023
A ball of emotions. Beautiful acting. Fair crafted story. And something who seems a kick to travel inside yourself.

A family, love,death- in various senses - , provocations, memories and allways, a special thrill defining each scene.

And few basic good points - the teacher and his house, the nun and her relation with family members, the lake and the final answer about pablo neruda.

Indeed, many unrealistic moments, other forced.

But its beauty rules in fair manner.

After its end, not exactly a verdict gift but a special state about three young people, their emotions, their options and gestures and words and travels .

For many reasons, little more than Indian film who you expect. And this is the good thing.

In same measure, the impression than only an Indian film can use the fair tone to say, in honest manner, this story.

So, its seductive- bitter beauty just counts.

Artistic
sameerlodaya6 April 2022
Sameer lodaya

The movie is a art film of this generation

The story is based on a Marathi novel and is made in a real artistic way..the location Kerala the poems the costumes the characters the aesthetics gave a good soothing effect..Neelay and anjali has played their character very well..the direction is also at par with the story.

The negative part is that it is made for a handful audience.

Best Gay Movie I ever watched
tomperuhawaii2 April 2022
What a stunning film and portrait of true love amidst horrible indoctrination of an outdated and injust system in India. This movie is absolutely brilliant as it captures beautifully the first love of a gay man and his sister who has been imprisoned by her parents.

A MUST WATCH!

Disappointed!!!
matthewleexxx24 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think the film started off pretty strong but finished with a weak ending. I did not read the book, so I cannot really tell if the book and the film are the same. But I think I can see that the tenant guy is leaving the lead actor, but definitely not in such a way without proper clues being revealed in the earlier part of the film. It just makes no sense. And there is not enough closure at the end. Even though they are not together, there should be more emotional scenes to explore that part rather than just a brief ending.

"Artsy", but too little focus on the story!
qui_j4 April 2022
This is such a poorly produced, written and edited movie that it is very difficult to follow. Obviously, the main focus seems to be on beautiful imagery, with the characters walking around as if they are in some kind of trance like state. However, the story itself lacks substance and moves at a slow pace that necessitates the use of the Fast Forward button frequently. The dialog is often trite, but it is the poor editing and sequencing of the scenes that make it difficult to follow. It's as if no story board were used to ensure continuity. The constant reference to world famous authors and poets does not make it clever, and becomes tedious after a while. Better LGBTQ movies have come out of India, reflecting the changing societal mores that have resulted from the modernization process in that country.

Events that lead you to self discovery
pranay_misra22 April 2023
This is for niche audience, letme be clear from start. Its about events that lead to self discovery and change of your view about life and world.

In a traditional marathi family, a brother and sister fall in love with a same man who lives in their house as paying guest. Now there are a lot of good moments in it. Director showed his love for movies books in a very nice way.

Acting wise , both the leads played their roles well. They definitely will go far. Pratik babbar coulvde been better , i felt he was little undercooked.

Its a nice movie, about people who different from common crowd, be it careerwise or orientation wise. Do give it a watch and appreciate its team efforts.

Poor man's "call me by your name "
chaitanyavsmohan4 April 2022
The whole movie felt like a poor attempt at making an Indian "call me by your name". Apart from that the narration was boring and underwhelming. The character were relatively shallow and stereotypical and the ending was a cliche .

'Love is a habit. The habit ends. You die.'
sourabhsanjaykolaj3 April 2022
Both movie and the book were so marvelous. Originally written by an Indian author and published in 2013 was one of the remarkable works about love, freedom, and heartbreak.

Don't compare it with or call it the Indian version of Call me by your name (2017) both are different and unique. The story of a brother and sister falling for a nameless, mysterious person. Who tears apart the two siblings. I do recommend that you clear your schedule just so you won't feel that you missed reading it, I do love the characters, especially Tanay I love how twisted the ending not to spoil but I'm in LOVE <3 with this book, I couldn't stop reading, and there is no part of the book that will make you stop reading.

'Love is a habit, the habit ends you die', those words made me cry at the very start of the movie. I smiled when Tanay fell in love, I was happy when they made love under the night sky, I felt warmth when they kissed each other, and all of sudden I was crying when he disappeared without any note , I was heartbroken watching Tanay, hiding all that pain inside him. The music, the dialogues everything is beautifully written and played, I was living those 112 minutes of human emotions, love, and despair. Actors definitely brought these characters and the pain and emotions that Tanay and Anuja feel to life.

Tanay represents all those members of LGBTQ who are trying to find their place in a heteronormative society .'Women stole the men we love' his teacher told him one day. Tanay's love was so pure and so devoted, he never questioned anything, he never doubted, he believed everything that nameless guy said. He simply loved him with all his heart, and it made me cry throughout the book and movie. Tanay's intense grief and despondence will haunt me for a while.

O'boy, this was unbelievably bad.
stay_handsome4 May 2022
It's about two siblings who falls in love with an inherent, that might seem interesting but believe me it's not. The man is suppose to be mystic but he is just very boring, like everyone else in this movie. I don't know where to begin, the plot is uninteresting, it's full of cliches, manuscript really painfully bad, actually I couldn't find even one good sentence. It tries to be arty but that even makes it worse cause it's not, the main lead wants to be a poet but what he writes is so amateurish and embarrassing I want to scream.

I have never written a review before but I just had to get rid of all my angry feelings. I almost feel sick, like I have eaten something so bad I want to throw up. Please don't waste your time on this movie. I can't believe anyone can find it interesting.

A cheap knockoff of Call Me By Your Name
robert75673 April 2022
There are simply too many references to Call Me By Your Name: summer romance where young male falls for old mysterious man, immersion in education, fruit, drunken stroll, the list is endless. Started out well and quickly fell flat. I do, however, enjoy the background references such as the posters to Indian films if the time such as FIRE. This may be a big hit in India but I was underwhelmed.

Few movies turn into a piece of art, Cobalt blue is one of them.
clinomania_supine6 July 2022
Cobalt Blue.... I've just drowned into the deep shade of Cobalt blue like the rain that swept the stair and turned into blue.

From the very beginning up to end, there is not a single shot that is imperfect. The cinematography and the use of color are simply stunning. The storyline is just superb. It's absolutely a piece of great art work. I'm overwhelmed and still in the resonance of its every word like the man at the lake. This is the power of a good script or a novel. And of course the visionary man who visualized every frame of it.

Nonetheless I can't stop myself thinking about the movie 'Call me by your name'. One year back I watched it. It's also another masterpiece based on the 2007 English novel of the same name by Andre Aciman. It was released in 2017 directed by Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. Whereas, 'Cobalt Blue' is the novel of Sachin Kundalkar published in 2006 in Marathi language when the writer was 22. Sixteen years after publishing the book, the Author by himself directed the movie which shows us how passionate the writer is about his creation. However, I can't believe how a 22 years old boy could write a book like 'Cobalt Blue' where the human mind was critically analyzed. It's amazing, I don't think so.

Hat off to Sachin Kundalkar!

Bad Acting, irritating plot
ajeyabhaskar5 April 2022
Really a lot of bad Acting by all three lead actors. The plot is slow and doesn't unfold. Lots of reference to poetry, art and art films but it doesn't talk about anything in detail very irritating to watch.

Ruined a great concept
cool_andhot9 April 2022
This movie example of how a bad director, poor script and horrible acting can ruin a good plot. The three main characters couldn't express any emotions in their face, even their mannerism and walking were odd. Nepo kids acted better than this. The entire movie felt like a joke. Pratiek Babbar was very bold to act in steamy scenes but his acting is really bad. Some part of the movie didn't make any sense at all. Please don't watch this crap. I don't know how Netflix even put it online.

Another great story
semilovatomanchester14 September 2022
Lovely to see how difficult life can be in other countries when it comes to who you love highly recommend.

Some critical reviews as always on IMDb but this should just be enjoyed for showing a cultural struggle of love.

I kinda see the comparison to other similar films like call me by your name but it's got more depth to it.

Give it a try I watched it dubbed I'm glad it's been dubbed as find subtitles distracting from watching the story unfold.
