Australian made but...
JeanFlores-Dickens1 December 2021
Pros 1. Diversity 2. Australian 3. Light hearted

Cons 1. Rom com 2. Predictable 3. Choppy CGI

I went into this movie thinking it was about the gay couple because that's the poster I had seen, However it is just a low budget movie with nothing to add on neither new.

And the winner for copying every other movie story line goes to... Unoriginal, terrible script and acting.

If anyone believed they were actually in NY needs their head read. Even the cartoon blow fly looked fake.

But I do like Stan for supporting Aussie productions.

Sloppily retrofit to Australia
Shiverse24 December 2021
Admittedly I generally don't love Christmas films or romcoms, so this one probably wasn't my genre to begin with, but as there have been some great Aussie Xmas films (Mooney Christmas, a sunburnt Christmas) I decided to give it a go.

I think this film felt like it was written to take place in America and then quickly was slapped together for Australian production. The Aussie elements brought in more felt like cheap stereotypes then actual nods to Australian culture. Overall I felt like it was an Australian movie, but not made for Aussies. I'm not really sure who it was made for tbh.

Don't believe the reviews, this film has been love brigaded.
andjones-556554 January 2022
This movie is unfortunately a bit of a dumpster fire but because of certain idpol elements it has received what is called clapter, which is basically a false laugh/clap not because something is actually entertaining but because it affirms ones political ideology rightly or wrongly.

This movie meanders about with a powerful sense of fakeness and low effort, it felt like all the Aussies were Americans with no understanding of Aussie culture and all the Americans were Aussies doing bad American accents, a soulless waste of time.

An Australian Christmas movie for an American audience
theresalangton13 December 2021
My family and I love a good Christmas movie, we even love a bad Christmas movie, you know the hallmark ones where it's completely cringe and predictable but you enjoy it inspire of yourself. This movie was neither. It was quite simply AWFUL.

I had such high hopes and was excited to watch it but other than some funny moments from the token stereotypical gay couple it was blah. It felt like they took all the Aussie staples they could think of and shoved them in a movie for an American audience. The insane number of crocodile Dundee references for example, the accents, the vegemite cameo and our personal favorite the Yabby scene! Can someone please tell these ppl that yabbies/crayfish do not swim up and buy you on the neck with their pincers and give you a bit resembling a hickey!! That scene was the killer for us. It was so ridiculous. And while I am sure there are some female farmers out there who have had plastic surgery I have never met one that's had that much obvious plastic surgery !

Really disappointed I. What could have been a wonderful movie.

This is the coal in our stocking

Finally got to see the movie I appear as an extra for a few seconds in the final scene and all I can say is, I knew it was gonna be a bad movie the moment I set foot on set. The story is typical, average and very bland. A lot of the movie was just random scenes that didn't mount anything to the story, and the so call love between the two leads doesn't seem genuine at all as there's barely enough story to mount to that big typical love moment. The gay couple in this movie was forced soo much that they appear to me the most straightest gay couple ever seen on screen. Production quality was too over the top for the setting they were trying to establish along with the obvious green screen with the New York scenes. And the acting was soo awful I wanted to turn the movie off, the only decent acting was from the little kid. This is an example why Australia doesn't make Christmas movies.

Enjoy it for what it is
rhyss-5301111 December 2021
Genuinely surprised by these reviews! Not sure what people expect from a Christmas movie, but if you go into it expecting a cheesy Christmas movie that's exactly what you get - and it's great because of it. Fun cast, easy to watch, enjoyable and funny; everything you need for an Aussie Christmas movie. And hats off to Stan for pumping money back into the Australian film industry.

A stupid, overacted, cliche.
darthsteele-393386 November 2022
I didn't like Christmas in Connecticut so why did I watch this even worse film with the same promise? Our female lead is a cringey, unlikable drunk. She's just awful! Her character supposedly grew up on a farm but she can't tell the difference between a cow and a bull, she can't ride a horse and she freaks out over a spider. Ugh! The gay couple is completely over the top and cliche. And speaking of cliches, the writers even threw in a horrible shopping montage. The writing is tragic and the acting is SO overdone, it reminds me of a really bad high school play. The relationship between our two leads is completely forced and ridiculous. "Romantic comedy'? HA! There is nothing romantic nor comedic about this film! It's just uncomfortable slapstick stupidity. But the most disappointing and saddest part of this horribly crafted film is that the basis of the storyline is that are female lead needs to save her mother's farm. A farm that her mother poured her heart and soul into after the death of her husband. So the fact that our female lead hates the farm, had nothing to do with the farm and shares no affection for it is just a really heartbreaking underlying tone.

Christmas in Connecticut
anhuber-229841 December 2021
Better than a lot of Christmas movies and very much like a modern version of Christmas in Connecticut 1945.

Enjoyed sitting back and watching the fun.

I'm an Aussie and I'm embarrassed.
aussiegirl-6591520 November 2022
I usually love Aussie humour but this wasn't it. Boring slapstick rubbish. I've watched Poppy Montgomery in a few other tv series and she was great. What prompted her to do this movie has got me beat. She must have been desperate.

There is nothing funny in this movie. I didn't laugh once. All very cringe worthy. If this was for American audiences they wouldn't have gotten the so called comedy parts at all. I didn't even get it.

I love Australian movies and haven't seen a decent one made here with all Australian actors for a while. Give this one a big miss. Where have all the good writers gone. .

I give it one star for Stan actually giving it a go.

A splendidly silly movie, good fun
amca196028 December 2022
I liked this movie. It satisfied the first and most rigorous of my requirements: that it doesn't put me to sleep. It also has the virtue of being relatively short, running at slight under 1 1/2 hours. It has no pretensions whatsoever at being anything else but undemanding fun, which it is. Hidden depths - there are none.

There are lots of references to Crocodile Dundee, which are fun to watch for, and all the actors seemed to relish their roles. The gay couple, one of which had to pretend to be Emmy's husband, were a hoot, as were the mother and son publishers.

The ending, with everybody dancing in the street (and the formidable mother holding a chook) was ridiculous, and at the same time perfect for the tenor of the movie.

There's probably nothing in this film which hasn't been done before and better, but it's an enjoyable package, and a fun romp.

One star each for Hugh Sheridan, Nicholas Brown and the child.
swightx-9622319 December 2021
This was the worse Christmas or romance movie I've ever seen, and I normally love trashy Hallmark movies. The acting was abismal, the lead actress looked far too old for the role, and the entire story wasn't even remotely believable. Sheridan & Brown and the child are the only good things. Don't waste your time!

Sadly impossible to unwatch

Can't find a redeemable feature of this truly cringeworthy film. What were they thinking? Who wrote the script? Seriously get some audience critique before you start the next film.

gay movie with nothing else
mfdoff11 December 2021
The only reason some are giving high rating is there is a gay couple in the movie and even it seems out of place in this worse Christmas movie EVER!

People need to be honest in ratings and not rate one high because it has a gay couple especially when they are simply doing a very bad job of trying to make fun of their gay lifestyle.

You'd do better by watching reruns of M. A. S. H. to see the guy that dressed in drag to try and get discharged from the army during the Korean war!

Christmas in Connecticut rippoff ??
kurribooks7 April 2022
Looks like somebody watched a few Barbara Stanwyke movies , Pinched a few plot elements . Added some dodgy Aussie accents . Not to mention the crocodile dundee references . Really is this all that Australian movies can be ? Surely we can do better.

So much fun!
ahesikoch4 December 2021
It wouldn't be a Christmas movie if it wasn't predictable 😉 But it isn't your typical Christmas movie because it has so much humor and funny bits, we often had to laugh out loud! The actors were great and the set design and costumes were a delight to look at, so altogether a wonderful lighthearted movie! Thank you to the people that made it!

Cut-Rate Christmas in Connecticut
sgail117 November 2023
While immediately calling to mind Christmas in Connecticut, Christmas on the Farm leaves a lot to be desired. The "romance" falls flat, with not nearly enough time passing to engender the love professed by the end. The accents were irregular, "American" accents having decided Australian undercurrents. While the film had potential, it never reached it. Violet, the neighbor girl, and the rooster are easily the most entertaining of the characters, closely followed by David and Miles, who manage to be interesting, despite falling heavily on some tired gay stereotypes. Christmas on the Farm ends up trying hard, but not hard enough.

Fabulous light hearted and heart warming Christmas movie
Alidaofrozencoke2 December 2021
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Love that it was filmed where I grew up as a child. Stunning scenery. Funny, light hearted, great characters, good acting, typical Australian humour throughout. Heart warming Christmas movie! Definitely doesn't deserve a 5/10.

Such a lovely movie!
chatwithmichaelmac31 December 2021
It's great to see Christmas movies coming out minus the saccharine and dumb story lines. This little beauty rings all the Christmas bells. It's genuinely funny. The child actor steals the show and she is a born actor! It's a nice change from the usual dross and once it moves to the Australian setting it finds its feet.

What's not to like? You just want to hug it!

Golden Aussie Humour
bouncing-1296519 December 2021
Wholesome comedy that was pretty fun to watch :) enjoyed the journey & humour along the way & loved seeing some Aussie actors in it too :) I feel like quite a few scenes do a great job of summing up Aussie culture.

Poppy
mspalaz28 December 2022
I love Ms Poppy in most everything, this movie was no different. She is a delightfully gifted actor. This movie stands the test of time and will continue to be one of my lighthearted go-to-for movie mayhem turns love story. I love the freedom she feels in NYC. That's how the city makes us feel.

The actress playing her daughter was also amazing. Asmara Feik, the screen loves you. I hope to see Asmara in many future films. The scenes were improved with the banter between the adults and this 10 year old farm girl, played by Ms Feik.

Watching the foal being birthed was a nice touch; I could've done without the goo carrying on to other scenes.

The farm was filmed beautifully and made me want to go outside at least to meet or see an animal.

It was just enough Auzzie for this gal.

Very funny
cwg2005a25 March 2024
Although I am mindful that the Australians do not like that the movie was not 100% accurate with Aussie references or jokes, that's like lawyers complaining that "Law & Order" courtroom scenes are not accurate.

In other words: So What? The movie is well-paced, well-written, and well-executed. The actors all put in top efforts; in fact, I do not think there was a weak link in the case.

The camera movements did not intrude or impede, the lighting was moderate, the script drew each character in its own shades.

I have seen over 30 christmas films this season, and this is among the handful of the best.

Sweet, light-hearted rom com
jodiward30 August 2023
Made me laugh and left me smiling. That's all I need from a movie. I love the low-angst drama-free movies that are easy to watch. Didn't cringe once, thankfully.

The acting was good. Poppy Montgomery and Hugh Sheridan are always wonderful and I loved the little girl she did an amazing job.

As someone who has lived rural in Australia the spider gave me flashbacks to childhood. I have never been bitten by a yabby when swimming in a dam but it was hilarious nonetheless.

The story was original and I had plenty of laugh out loud moments. The scenery was beautiful but you expect that from outback Australia.
