Want to see it again!
kounma4 August 2022
Saw the movie during the New York Asian film festival. The plot is pretty straightforward but it offers a theme that everyone can relate to. Given the relatively simple plot, I was actually amazed that I wasn't asking myself "what's for dinner" or "when's it going to end" half way through because that's what I was thinking last time when I watched a 120-mins movie. The pace of the story felt right and the two hours actually went by quick. The story has light humor but it also touches you that you may laugh and cry with the characters.

I very much enjoyed the visual. The use of the camera angles and the color contrast set the right mood for the story and many of the scenes simply were stunning. Lastly, what I enjoyed the most are the OST, most of the songs were sung by Keung To, and I may be biased as I love his vocals (since that's how I became a fan), but the song choices were great and helped set the mood.

Teresa Mo is a veteran and she never disappoints, I just love her. This is the first film for both Keung To and Jer Lau, while nothing groundbreaking, they were natural and did great as newbies. All the actors and actresses were good and the credits go to director Kearen Pang. I'm no judge of someone's acting skills, but no one seemed out of place or had me wondering what their facial expressions or body languages mean.

The story itself is simple but it resonates well and is multifaceted. However, what makes it worth going to the theater is the visuals and the OST. I generally don't go to the cinema for dramas because I don't find it worthwhile without all the visual and sound effects that a sci-fi movie or animation could offer. I'd recommend it to everyone. Go see with your own eyes how charming Keung To is! Or not...come judge on your own! Recommend it to everyone who would enjoy a light-hearted drama with awesome visuals and great music!

Hong Kong films are getting better and better
Gordon-1118 August 2022
This story tells the story of a mother, her son, and another young man who go through their own personal struggles. The emotions are beautifully portrayed. The visuals are consistently good as well, with great camera work and lighting. There could be tighter editing, as some scenes seem to linger on for a bit too long. Overall, I think this film will touch heart strings. Hong Kong films are getting better and better!

The affair of mother.
DoorsofDylan3 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After being lucky to see a thrilling run of obscure Taiwan Wuxia Action titles on the big screen at the HOME cinema, I was pleased to spot that the Odeon cinema in Birmingham was screening a new film from Hong Kong, leading to me witnessing the end of the affair.

View on the film:

Talking directly to the camera about the struggle of finding a balance between love, work and family, Hard Boiled (1992-also reviewed) lead actress Teresa Mo gives a sparkling performance as Mei-Fung, whose return to the entertainment management industry is given a comedic snap by Mo, which is cracked by a nicely understated romantic side, as Mo expresses Mei-Fung finding a new lust for life.

Turning from major HK-Pop stars into big screen stars, Keung To and Jer Lau give turns which slide between the ill-fitting Melodramatic to the frozen, not helped by the screenplay from writer/director Kearen Pang, fizzling out after giving Mei-Fung a welcomed quirky introduction, to leave her surrounded by a flat family Drama, as mama leaves for an affair.

This movie is full of surprise!

I attend the New York Asian Film Festival last week. I truly amazed by the main actress Mo and actors Keung To and Jer Lau. The storyline is very simple but yet so meaningful. I also love the songs throughout the movie. I wish I can watch it again in the theater. Some of the scenes touches me so much and I cried few times.

Movie that you can't miss!!!!
carmenwong-741907 August 2022
The movie describes complicated interpersonal relationship very well. All characters look well on the surface, like Mei Fung is a full time mom with a academically excellent son, typical happy family; yet no one understand her loneliness from husband's affair, distance from the son~ Fong Ching's appearance unveils all these difficult situations and force everyone within to face their own problems!

Miss mo acts very well as usual; out of surprise, the 2 new actors, Keung To & Jer Lau perform quite well. I am especially love Fong Ching (keung To), he has to struggle between his past and reality to become a superstar. His facial expression and eyesight convincely tells his transformation. And, of course, his charisma on stage that cannot resist!

Surprisingly good!
shakepigbird7 August 2022
Just watched last night! Thank you Kearen Pang the director to give me so many laughers and tears. It's definitely a good one!

Mama's Affair is the first movie of Jer & Keung To but they handled it very well. Jer act as a school student which surprising fit. Meanwhile Keung To is a bit too handsome to act as a waiter at the beginning like Teresa mentioned in the movie. It makes it very interesting to see Keung To to become a superstar. Watching him go through it brings me hope. It's so impressed to the scene when Keung To see his father. The relationships between each characters are meticulously organised.

Under my highly expectations, Kearen didn't fell me at all. It's worth to spend the night and I am considering to watch again later this week.

If you think this is a comedy then you are wrong! Yes, there are moments that would make you giggle but this movie is pretty darn touching. I specifically like how Keung To or Fong in the movie acted out the relationships between him and his father whom he hasn't seen in a long while. The songs in the movie is also very well chosen and well sung.

A warm and touching movie worth to watch it with family
cindylo-650837 August 2022
The director Pang Picked the superstars as the main actors, but they really could perform the role as the director designed. The most impressed is Mei Fung express her thought to Fong Ching in the Kitchen. I can't hold my tear in this part.

Each roles have been designed in details, each actors perform well in their feet!

A Must See
jocelynko13 August 2022
It certainly lived up to my expectations. Got goosebumps watching the film. The award winning director Kearen Pang is back with this heart-warming movie starring the veteran Teresa Mo and two fresh actors - Keung To and Jer Lau. All the other supporting actors are equally good too.

This richly emotive film warmly and poignantly highlights issues which some women faced in modern times as well as how a 'once' artiste's manager propels an unknown to stardom. In true KP's style, the script writing is engaging and well-crafted. Superb acting by Teresa Mo and fresh-face Keung To is undoubtedly a pleasant surprise: he stoles scenes! Love how his.beautiful songs weaves throughout the film. What a treat!

A touching film

The film is touching, there were many old songs covered in the film. Fong Ching (act by Keung To) is kind and sincere, you would like to give him a hug when you see Fong crying in the film.

A Touching Movie
dkeung-0210310 August 2022
I watched the premiere on July 31, with the Q & A session with Director Pang afterwards. I found the movie touching and cried a few times especially towards the second half of the movie. I like the way how Artist Manager Mei Fung handled her relationship with her husband. Director Pang really excels at describing the feelings and thoughts of a woman. Of course, Teresa Mo's excellent acting skills undoubtedly helped deliver it. The other two male actors, the Mirror members, were also able to play their roles and act the main characters naturally. Overall, Mama's Affair is worth viewing. I would like to recommend it to others.

Unexpected Touching
antheachausm7 August 2022
At first I only expected that it was a simple story about how Fong Ching (act by the Super idol in HK, Keung To) has become a superstar with the nurturing from Mei Fung (act by Teresa Mo). However, during the 120-min story, I am deeply touched by the short but impressed side story between Fong Ching and his father, the tensed but finally turned warmth relationship between Mei Fong and her son, as well as the resigned acceptance of choice from Mei Fung's son made by his parents.

It's a film about love, acceptance and forgiveness that each person has to experience and learn to do that. Don't miss it. You can bring back a lot when you leave the cinema.

As a Mirror fans, I am so looking forward to watch Keung To and Jer's first movie. I tried not to read any comments before watching the movie.

Unexpectedly touching! I absolutely forgot Keung To in the movie, I was into his character very soon! There are lots of reflections from the movie. Reflecting the relationship among your family members.

Nice songs and background music! So looking forward to soundtrack!

Even if you are not a fans, this movie is strongly recommended for all of you.

Warm reminder : Prepare tissues(you may cry a lot)

Touching and meaningful family dynamics
jbychan13 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As the title describe, mother takes on a lot of decision, whether to continue to work, or stay home to take care of the children, and face the loneliness it may come when the children go on to university, and how to associate the self value and identity - through work? Through the success of the child? Through husband?

The movie comes into perspective to Jer and Keung To, and between Keung To and his dad with very heavy forgiveness.

Keung To is so charming. As his first movie, he did great in fun, polite, dancing and singing... Perhaps can feel part of his character. Admittedly to me Keung hair is too long and inhibit us to feel his powerful eyes which he did well in another Taiwan drama. Keung has less scripts compared to Jer or Mo so ability to see his facial expressions is quite critical.

Mo is super, her facial expressions can make you cry.

Amazingly, so does Jer. Jer acted well with and his mood is in the act.

Overall, I enjoy the fun, the laugh, and the meaningful story line that make you linger in your head and reflect your own lifestyle. What decisions we choose in our lives that impact our relationship with our family. There isn't a whole lot of movies that looks like reading a book and make you cry and reflect and this is definitely one of the best family movie. It is great for any parent, anyone who is a child, so it pretty much apply for anyone.

I am sure you will echo and tears will come out even for a person that is logical and not easy to feel touch. I cried a few times.

Keung To dad was also impressive. Looking at his face you can feel his guilt and sorrow.

Not to mention I love music and the story line has a lot of various music tied together.

Great movie, great songs, and great artists and director. Love it!

Everybody will get touched, watch twice for sure
chloew-7873615 August 2022
It's a movie about family relationships, problems and how they care about each other. The scene showing the regret in Father was sad yet inspiring audience to relate to their actual life thinking about forgiveness.

So delighted to see Keung To (Fong Ching) to present a mature performance which he acted REALLY WELL. Director, thank you so much and I'm glad to see the new movie star to glow.

A Must Watch!
dvote5 September 2022
This movie is a breath of fresh air in today's chaotic world. It encourages the audience to cherish connections and the little moments you had with your loved ones. The film will certainly brings you a wider perspective to every relationship - be it romantic, family or friendship, one would certainly benefit from the movie.

For the cast, Teresa Mo is a veteran actor in Hong Kong and her interpretation as Mei Fung was impeccable. Jer Lau, a member of the boy band Mirror, also had very solid performance in the movie. Another Mirror member, Keung To, had graced the film with his charisma. The transformation of his character was jaw dropping and mesmerising. The theme song, "Be there, rain or shine" brings a haunting tune and will surely linger in your heart when you leave the cinema. Mama's Affair is definitely a must watch!

hoilam-7025419 August 2022
....because this movie touches most of the audiences, especially if you are a working woman, dealing with the difficulties of the relationships with her husband and son. You may expect lots of songs and performances by Keung To in the movie. The songs help to further elaborate the loneliness of the main characters.

Feeling warm & fuzzy from this heart-warming movie
opaltsui16 August 2022
I love it when I exit a theatre with a warm fuzzy feeling, and that's exactly what Mama's Affair did for me! This authentic Hong Kong movie (complete with HK cafes and egg tarts!) not only has an interesting storyline and funny laughing moments, it also drove me to tears in multiple places! The cast is also fresh and so wonderful to watch - Teresa Mo's acting is impeccable as always, but I'm also thoroughly impressed by Keung To's performance (this being his first film debut!). He's got this charming, yet sincere quality which made me dive into his world emotionally. My heart broke for him when he was upset, and rejoiced when he became successful. Such a wonderful new actor with TONNES of potential!! I look forward to seeing more acting pieces from this young HK artist in the future!

A heart-warming film for the family
lijacq8 September 2022
Watched it in Los Angeles during my family trip to the States. It is the best movie to make your family to as it is about family, about love, and about not taking granted for each other's sacrifices. The language is simple and the pace is comfortable, so kids and seniors understand too. Thought the movie was about fandom as there are two boyband Mirror stars there, but the focus is on the mother who is also an artist manager. Two broken families are involved and Mei Fung (Mo) and Fong Ching (Keung) are each other's guardian angel. It is not too sad which I love and there are many heartwarming and comedic moments. After watching, you will appreciate your love ones more!

My favorite movie of 2022!

Watch with tissue ready in hand
coocoojuju5 September 2022
I went into the cinema to watch a movie about a mother's affair, and I walked out with a mixture of feelings. This , I haven't experienced from any movies for years. It was a simple story of a mother ,her teenage son and a young man she grooms to be a rising star. The powerful thing about Kearan Pang ,the director, is that she tells the touching story in a light manner that gradually occupies a place in your heart. The mother, played by the renown actress Teresa Mo whose acting is in no doubt super good. Keung To and Jer Lau are really surprises as this is their first motion picture performance. As to how well they can act, it is worth to buy a ticket and see for yourself.

I sincerely recommend you to watch this movie at least once.

P. S. Bring a handkerchief if you are human.

A heartwarming movie that touches everyone!
salinaus14 October 2022
The story is beautiful and very touching. It will resonate no matter if you're a mom, a wife or a son/daughter, and it'll leave you with some takeaways one way or another.

The story is simple, and the pace is just right. There's a nice touch of humour for the most part of the movie, but there are also a few very touching scenes. I kept hearing people, both the younger or older generation, cry. I like how the movie didn't dwell on these sad scenes, and moved on very quickly.

Being a highly seasoned actress, Teresa Mo never disappoints. The other two main characters, Keung To and Jer Lau, are surprisingly great as first-timers. The movie simply felt like it was tailor made for Keung To. Both of them are great singers in real life but Keung To did amazing in his role as a rising star. All other actors / actresses with supporting roles delivered much more than expected too.

I love all the songs in the movie. Most of them were old ones which were rearranged to suit the movie better. The meaning of these songs just suited perfectly at that right moment which helped greatly in setting the scene. The last song in the movie was specially produced which meant so much for the movie and came really timely in real life.

With such a beautiful story, you'd want to watch it in a movie theatre, to laugh and cry with the other audience. The amazing visuals and great songs also make it all worth it. I'd recommend the heartwarming movie to everyone and have recommended it to my family and friends.

Mama's Affair - A High quality movie
myee-9154522 October 2022
All in all, Mama's Affair is a high quality's film work.

-A set of films with themes, vivid characters and deep depth.

  • The director has spent a lot of thought on the details, especially the plot layout, which is advanced layer by layer and reasonable

-The shooting are very beautiful. Some scenes such as the street of the tea restaurant and the scene of Tuen Mun where Fong Ching and Johnathan were fighting.

Not only beautiful but also full of Hong Kong characteristics, which are very attractive.

In addition, the songs interspersed in the movie are very beautiful, which is definitely a visual and auditory enjoyment (It must be said that the singing voice of Keung To who plays Fong Ching is really contagious.) A truly pleasing set of films.

Love the film so much.
