Horrible, Delightfully Fun, and Absolutely Insane

Loved this. It was bonkers. Nothing made sense: not the plot, the character arcs, the conflicts, the romances, the dialogue, the settings, the editing, the music, the ending, or... well, anything.

You know that feeling you get when you stare at a strobe light too long? Sick, disoriented, and kinda woozy? Turn that feeling into a feature length Christmas film and you've got "Christmas is Canceled"

10/10 Highly recommended A+

(Plus the guy's a great photographer apparently, so that's cool.)

Downer atmosphere

The premise of breaking up a relationship between dad and a free-wheeling woman has been done a few times, but I don't remember ever doing it where that woman is the daughter's high school classmate and neighbor. I found that aspect to be taking it a little too far. It was hard to root for Brandy.

This story had some good moments, especially if you like a revenge trope, and there were great possibilities. There were also some cringeworthy moments. It seemed like there wasn't anything upbeat in the whole movie except maybe the inevitable outcome.

Emma, the daughter, definitely shows a very unlikeable side, even mean. While I didn't like this aspect of her personality, I identified with her feelings was behind her in principle, to a point. She had very mean moments. Brandy becomes a sympathetic character.

Usually in a movie with this kind of premise, the guy that the daughter picks as an ally turns into her romantic interest. Yet Hayley Orrantia and Michael Naizu had very little screentime together. There was no valid explanation for the relationship they develop.

I'm pretty sure this is not a Hallmark movie. It gets pretty crass at times, including the language and there is some heavy petting with minimal clothing.

Terrible misjudged trash

I don't mind a low-budget try-hard tacky Christmas film here and there. They make for nice background trashy entertainment. But when one normalises a coldly unempathic bereaved 58yr old seducing a 20something friend of his daughter, and his daughter is made out to be the one with the problem, its messages aren't exactly on a par with 'Its a Wonderful Life'.

The humour is of the cringey sarcastic reactions ilk, with ill-judged music to suggest things are supposed to be funny. The whole thing is such a jarring misfire I'm amazed anyone thought "yeah let's make this!"

Frustrating

There is nothing alright with the whole scenario. I would hate my father if he ever dated a friend from high school. It is frustrating. Hopefully this movie does not influence other older men to treat their daughters this way. Not the new normal!

Christmas trash

Hohoho, here's some christmas trash, I'm sure you wont enjoy unless you're some kind of chritmas whacko. This movie should come with a bottle of vodka, because you'll like the vodka more than the movie, and then the floor more than the movie after you've puked.

Movie was funny

People who spend their time complaining about Christmas movies are hysterically funny. Christmas movies are by there nature are fillers nothing more. Mindless fillers. Quit analyzing them for something other than that.

Horrible movie

That was honestly the worst Christmas movie I've ever watched (and trust me, I have watched tons of them).

The so-called "moral of the story" is pathetic, as well as the ending.

This was frustrating to watch. I would not recommend this movie to anyone who has taste or moral values.

It's a shame I could not rate it with 0 star.

When I gave the film my rating of 7, I couldn't imagine why the reviews were so low. Then I, of course, decided to read other reviews to gain some insight. Quickly I pictured older women with their noses up in the air, and their lips shriveled up, looking at a successful older man loving a much younger girl. I kept reading responses to soon picture more women, who have always felt judged or confined in their relationships by another's judgment, disgusted over the main character wanting to control who her father should date. In all, I get it. The people who wrote those nasty reviews simply could relate more to the film than they wanted to. Well, that wasn't me. I am not personally attached to any character and, therefore, I think it was hilarious!

Funny movie

Watched this movie with my wife and we both enjoyed the silliness and heartfelt moments in this. Not your typical Christmas movie, and not exactly one to watch with young kids, however it is a fun one to watch.

Straight Cheddar, but enjoyable

Very cheesy. Very predictable. But, and all around decent movie. A couple really funny moments, a couple ehhh moments. This is the perfect mid-day mess around on your phone X-mas movie. It's very easy to follow and doesn't take itself too seriously. Like an Adult Disney Made-4-TV movie. It has cursing, a couple streamy/suggestive moments. But not hard to watch with family. It says it's Rated-R but it's definitely PG-13 realistically.

Disgusting Patriarchal Holdover

I watch a lot of not great movies and never hated one enough to leave a review. This was the most disgusting piece of trash I've had the displeasure of sitting through.

The tropes are misogynistic and shallow at best. Seriously, was someone working through some old feelings when they wrote this? Perhaps rewriting the ending of their own bad choices? It reads as therapy time.

Of course a person would be shocked to come home for Christmas and find a parent secretly dating an old high school classmate. Of course they would feel betrayed. Any human with a modicum of emotional maturity can empathize. Did the lead act manipulative and childish? Sure. Did the parent and new SO also act that way? Yep. So why is the writer so intent on painting the only villain in this as the 'child'? I'm being sold that they should have accepted the news joyfully and immediately welcomed the new SO into the 'family'. Anything less is not only selfish, but bitterly disregards the genetic need for men to be with the youngest, hottest piece they can get.

The outdated jokes about rape culture, and reducing men to nothing more than Neanderthals controlled by their genitalia were offensive at best.

Creepy and felt bad for main character. Horrible.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen (no hate to any of the actors they were great).

First of all, a father dating someone who is not only his daughters age, but more importantly used to hang out with his daughter's friend who would ALSO hang out with his widowed wife.

Second of all, I feel so bad for the main character because throughout the entire movie, her feelings were completely invalidated. Her FATHER stuck up for the psycho girlfriend more than his own daughter, and as a viewer it made me angry and emotional myself. That's horrible.

You should always put your children first. She even calls his daughter "a human lump of puss" at one point and he ignores it.

The main character gets belittled and walked over the entire movie...when her mother died and now she's watching her dad date an immature child. I would be upset too.

This movie literally enraged me so much, If my father ever treated me like that I would be so hurt!!!!

Also the scene where Brandy goes psycho in the bathroom was just not ok and proved how she was immature and psycho, and yet the daughter still was made to be the bad person.

The only reason it got one star is because the daughter and the bartender were the only good and cute things to come out of it.

The daughter should not of been the bad person, and the dad is a creep. Bye this movie was horrible. But the bartender was hot and hope to see him in more.

-21 year old girl with an actual brain and more creativity to write a better plot and stand up to men.

Equal parts lazy and creepy.

Absolutely nothing made me warm to any character in this film and the acting was flat. The story was lazily written and the premise was creepy. It MAY have gotten better in the end but I couldn't make it that far. Sucks because I love Hayley and. Janel but they both seemed to be relying on their past characters from other shows to get through this.

Horrible

I can honestly say that I've never seen a worse Christmas movie. The main character is a total a-hole but the only voice of reason, it portrays all guys as horny jerks and the father is literally the worst father ever (let's his 25 year younger girl friend treat his daughter like absolute trash). People say that it's funny but it's just way too forced and makes the characters unrelatable.

It was cute. Yes there is some crude humor that could have been left out. And yes her dad dating her friend is creepy. But it was funny. In parts. It's for sure not going to win any Oscars but it is worth watching. Just don't expect some great Christmas movie. Because it's not. Your not going to want to watch it every Christmas it's not that kind of movie. But give it a shot. You might find you enjoyed it. I did.

Ridiculous

The plot synopsis states a 29 year old woman finds out her father is dating her high school "frenemy." I went into this movie prepared for the usual silliness and over the top acting Christmas romcoms are known for. I expected pettiness and catty arguments leading to a sickeningly sweet ending in which everyone gets what s/he wants.

What I got was a movie even more ridiculous than anticipated. The daughter, who is supposedly 29, acts like a 4 year old throughout the entire film. She even kicks over a Santa Claus, in her father's place of business at one point. I can't imagine that any woman approaching her 30s would act the way this character acts. It's just way too unbelievable. The whole movie was so bad that I felt embarrassed for the actors. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. It is terrible.

This Christmas movie is on another level. Haven't seen any other Christmas movie with this kind of story. Its hilarious, a lot of awkward kind of funny moments. The theme is adult so not for kids.

Loved actors job, since they had to make credible the plot which seemed a bit forced in some parts... Dialogues are sometimes funny sometimes less.

And the question is with "who" Emma's mom betrayed Jack? Am I stubborn or what?

World's most unlikable lead

Story wasn't terrible but the lead actress had such a truly horrible personality that it ruined the rest of the movie. She was like photocopy of Zooey Deschanel: none of the adorableness or charm. Rest of the characters were the just right of attractive cheesiness that I love in holiday movies.

Literally a male in his elderly years with his silver hair dating a young woman his daughters age. Ofc his daughter doesn't agree with it and tries to break them up. Not worth anybody's time.

The main character almost makes this unwatchable on her own

But 'luckily' for her, the writing was even worse. The title character, the daughter, would make most of the cast of "Succession" look like Mr. Rogers by comparison. She's a walking petulant, immature, mean spirited persecution complex and one of the most unlikeable roles I've seen in a long time. The actress was fine at it I guess if the writing really lacked as much nuance as what came through on the screen, but they'd have to really try hard to write a character as unsympathetic as the one Hayley Orrantia had to play. Maybe that explains why this terrible flick isn't even listed in her filmography at Wikipedia.

The music/sound direction was awful in a bad Lifetime movie type of way. Aside from the annoyingly lame soundtrack itself, the Rock for the Homeless bit involves a hair metal band named Rayven and they play generic 80s garbage and this is supposed to be 2021?

The only reason we watched this was that it's free on Amazon Prime Video and we were bored. Unfortunately we will never reclaim that hour and a half stolen from us by this dreadful film.

Hard pass and hopefully the reviews have saved future readers the time. This isn't even good as a Christmas movie to have on in the background.

I should have known it was going to be bad the second it began and that horrible song started playing. What a waste of time and money making trash like this. How desperate was dermot for a paycheck shame.
