I'm mesmerized by the acting
bruna_teix27 September 2021
Since nothing can top the last episode (in my opinion) I wanted to talk about the acting.

As an actress myself I tend to always pay attention to their technics, what I would have done the same or differently, what was going through the actor's mind doing this or that scene, but with this show I just don't do that, and that is AMAZING!

It is so believable that I forget they're acting, and I know that is a cliche thing to say, but it's just such a rare thing for me to just... watch something, to be so immersed in all those characters inner monologues and beautiful stares and silences, I'm just grateful for the experience. Because it's not an easy thing to pull, believe me. To be so convincing that people just forget it's fiction. Even more when they literally start every episode showing the actors, the set and crew as they are about to get into character. It's so raw and ironic to be honest. When I first saw the opening I was sure a lot of people would hate it, for some breaking the fourth wall just breaks the "spell" of acting itself, let alone show them that what we are about to watch is a well rehearsed, well choreographed big pretend, which in my opinion is bs, because if the actors are good enough people are going to believe, and this only proves that. That's why I love it.

Love the show, how it's written and SO beautifully played.

... the-best ... all are very-good

... 'The Vale of Tears'.. this episode the-centerpiece-masterpiece of-all-five-segments ... what these two accomplish even before reaching the thirty-minute-mark.. completely-marvelous

... everything just comes-transitions-together sooo-smoothly ... watching dozen times can't diminish intensity, w-2nd-half maybe even surpassing the first ... there's something these two have, hearkens-back major-on-screen-romances

... making a point getting-back-together for future-productions ... absolutely one of the best-parts of 'Old-Hollywood'

The feels...
lareval5 December 2021
That feeling of pretending everything is normal when it's not. To say you're happy when you're not. To see what was your room once now left abandoned. To try to recomnect and reach out when so much time has passed and there's a world between each other. This series has already started on a masterful high, but how is evolving shows a groundbreaking sense of mature that amazes me. I'm even starting to forget about Bergman... Chastain and Isaac are scarring my heart for good.

You couldn't find something this real if you tried

It's so beyond me to try and put this into words, harder still to make sense of the turmoil in this scene. It just speaks to you, it flows so naturally that you're put in a trance. Their words and feelings carry more weight behind them than anything else. This is as real as a relationship drama can possibly become.

I love you hate...hate you games with each other
pinkyfish27 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I knew when they agreed to separate that it was the beginning of tug of war mind games with each other. For sure separation is not easy, especially when there is a child involved, but they both are acting like selfish no one else matters but me a..holes. And his kicking to the curb a woman he was involved with the way he did it was ugly. Dragging innocent people into their bs, and then throwing those same people away like trash is all the way wrong.

Why the voice-over?
vspiwak-9247212 October 2021
The voice-over narration/stage direction on this episode is superfluous and seriously annoying. Their acting as always is superb. That said I'm really enjoying this series.
