Fun to watch, to the point and to the heart
nakrugt26 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
COVID storyline had me think it was going to have a sad ending, but I was wrong. Simple, to the point and to the heart. If you like Miracle Workers, you already like the cast.

And thanks, for portraying men and women a bit more realistically than other rom-coms.

What makes a good Rom-Com?
A_Different_Drummer27 April 2022
(IMDb Top Reviewer). There is a scene here where the very neurotic boy tries to explain cooking to the very cool and self-possessed girl. "My mother tried to show me and it didn't work," she warns. Rom-coms themselves are also just a recipe. You need chemistry between the leads. And a knife-sharp script. Here, writer/director Roshan Sethi delivers both. On a budget. Not too shabby.

A surprisingly enjoyable COVID dramedy :-)

Many funny and heartwarming moments :-) An interesting look at arranged relationships across the ocean in America. Shows what can happen when two different souls are forced together in an unusual situation.

Sure, blame COVID
martiuew24 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was slow at times and parts of the story line could have been better, but it was a fun movie with the foreign culture mixed with the lifestyle of living in the USA. My favorite line was "don't show him the real you, he will never marry that you." The shelter in place caused a degree of togetherness never expected. The paranoria of Ravi over the virus was mor to blame than anything. I enjoyed the movie and I would watch another.

Great until the end
jgusman-8228630 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie moved along well. Ravi and Rita had great chemistry, due to having to work together in other projects. I can't believe they didn't kiss once and the last scene fell flat (IMO) for a great movie. Ravi's character had some development into his behavior, but Rita's character had no back story. It had a great premise, intelligent and neurotic guy falls for an unemployed free-sprited girl. Old country traditional guy falling for a modern westernized girl. I hope they use this film as a reference in the new Deadpool 3. In most Rom-Coms the roles are reversed, but we get a peek into most Indian family relationships and dating practices.

Grateful for the honesty

Really compelling. I'm so grateful for the honesty. Finally a movie that portrays those first few days of COVID. I feel like Hollywood is gaslighting me into believing the past 2 years didn't happen. I'm appreciative that the movie existed in a real present day.

Why go down the Covid route
fewsternoble28 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok the film was okay if a little too long, but what really turned me against it was its take on Covid, when one of them gets it, it is so lame and an insult to the seriousness of it that it, that actually got me angry.

I'm not being snowflake or anything but this person gets it and is in hospital for a couple of days, apparently really bad, then get discharged and walks home FFS.

Words fail me, i don't know what they were thinking, why one of them even had to get it was beyond me, the film was chugging along nicely.

Any way that's why i gave it a 3.

Sorry if i've peed people off with my views but it was a total idiotic farce, and while i would not recommend this, i would just suggest you see for yourself.

Deserves more praise

Under rated. The story is beautifully told, both funny and poignant. The two stars have cosmic chemistry and I loved every minute they were on screen. An absolute delight of a film.

love is such a funny thing...
ops-525353 May 2022
When youre actually lonely. Otherwise its a story about sickness and health, animalism vs vegetarianism, mums and mums, dating and matching on the web, alcohol and waterhole, sadness and very much the thought of dying in complete loneliness.

Its a cast of 2, throwing lies and spells at eachother, shes relaxed at her homeground, he's stressed and partly neurotic by the surroundings on her homeground. The cast is visual beauties, and the female wouldve made me sunk in the ground of sheer bliss(looks just like my better half when 20), they are good dialouging and seems to match from start.

The playlength of the film though is just far to long and the plotspeed dies a lot in the 2nd half. Its also to ocd'd on the covid topic, wouldve been a lot funnier if they had made a comedy out of breaking the covid rules, may that be a tip for another project.

All in all an indian related lovesearch story romcom, that tickles your vagus nerve in different ways depending , my grumpy better half would love this, the grumpy old man though prefers a lot more action and slapstick from comedies, so just a small recommend.

Quirky and refreshingly different.
taub11 October 2022
I liked this movie. It is totally different than your average romantic comedy. The characters are flawed, and in very realistic ways. I think the movie does a good job of showing how paranoid everyone one was when Covid first shutdown our businesses and we had shelter at home orders.

Was the actual disease covered realistically? No. It's a comedy, not a documentary. I'm someone who has been married to a woman for 41 years, that I initially had no intention to marry. We were different religions and our parents opposed the marriage. We fell in love anyway, and she is the best thing that ever happened to me. Now I have great children and beautiful grandchildren. So this movie struck a chord with me. Sometimes opposites do attract. One person learns to be more fun, and one person learns to be more responsible. It's not a smooth process, but it's a productive one.

Arranged lockdown
CutUncut202119 July 2022
The initial exchanges between the two youngsters are depressingly true to the vapid nonspeak that passes for conversation amongst the accidental denizens of the Disunited States, young and old. Even those with mixed ancestry croak and dither, their intellectual constipation producing a plethora of platitudes. Fortunately, under Sethi's agile handling things soon slither sideways into a layered piss-take of this social ineptitude, thanks principally to Rita (Geraldine Viswanathan) and her erratic command of herself and life(style), reversing parental control and manipulation so as to be (true to) herself. Her recognition of life's unpredictability gradually levers the hyperverbal Ravi (Karan Soni) into the concept of "doing less", and even having "fun": he is the product of his talkaholic mother, whereas Rita is her mother's corset-free nemesis. For millions of people around the world, lockdown knocked normality for six, and in this case it is hard not to hope the two realise their luck at confinement. Sethi's directing is occasionally Allenesque (notably the opening and closing sessions with elderly married couples talking about their unions), but refreshingly imaginative. Give it a try.
