Enjoyable

Great story, not too funny that it will lose its meaning and not much dramatic it will makes you hold your laughs. Its a mix of both.

The acting from the 3 main characters are outstanding and the vibes between them are great.

I wasn't sure what to expect
gallagherkellie19 January 2022
But honestly wow!! It's a dark comedy and I really did giggle a lot. I also had tears in my eyes/almost cried more than once. I even felt scared at one stage. It has it all. I loved the characters and really felt for them and believed in their chemistry. I'm so sick of people saying that because he's overweight he would never get a girl like her...I found his character so cute and appealing. The acting was great and I wish there was more!! Although I'm so glad they kept it short and sweet and didn't overdo anything.

Original and successful genre crossover 2nd helping please

My Review - Wolf Like Me 2022 Stan My Rating 9/10

This original Australian series set in Adelaide and The Outback but mostly filmed in Sydney and Broken Hill is described as a Genre bending series.

I suppose because it does cross Comedy Romance Thriller / Horror genres but all I can say is congratulations to the Production team and the cast for one of the most original and unexpected viewing pleasures for me so far this year.

Also congratulations for not dragging out the series just 6 episodes not more than 30 minutes each is enough for the first series to introduce us to 3 very interesting characters with enough plot development easily for another series at least .

. No spoilers at all as they would ruin the story except to say we have Gary who is an emotional wreck and struggles to provide for his daughter since the death of his wife.

Josh Gad is delightful as Gary a mid life plumpish Dad who is on the dating trail again and just can't seem to forge a connection with either his date matches or his feisty daughter Emma who is played delightfully by Ariel Donaghue.

Humorous and Bizzare situations advance quickly when Gary meets Mary played by Isla Fisher an actress that impresses me greatly.

Mary has a secret she can't bring herself to share with anyone. The universe brought these two together for a reason.

The on screen chemistry is great between Josh Grad and Ariel Donaghue and we need to see both these talented performers together again.

Abe Forsythe the writer and Director knows how to please an audience on screen and I hope he can expand on this first series of Wolf Like Me .

With regard to the show's second installment, here is the deal. Nothing has been stated officially yet, but we have good reason to believe that the series will be back for another round. For one, the most talked about aspects of the show are the unexpected plot twists and tonal shifts. With that said, it appears that the storyline can head in numerous directions if there is a second installment.

At the conclusion of Wolf Like Me another great comedy moment came to my mind from the Billy Wilder classic Some Like it Hot? Which has gone down as one of the funniest lines in movie history.

The very final scene when when Daphne (Jack Lemmon) removes her wig and finally explains to Osgood why she can't marry him - because she's a man that and Osgood just grins as only Joe E Brown could replying "Well, nobody's perfect." You'll have to see this series to know what I mean.

Why I like this show
tknmzombie6 February 2022
It doesn't check the boxes.

The widower isn't a hot bod dad.

The kid isn't a complete a-hole.

The humor isn't forced.

The romance isn't sappy.

The horror isn't graphic.

Maybe this is why some reviewers are so confused or cannot get behind the cast or the concept. Because it doesn't fit the standard formula of a rom-com. Or a horror-romance. Or anything else that is out there.

And I say GOOD!

IT IS ABOUT TIME!

There's something about Mary...
jeffmvines13 January 2022
This is different kind of love story from Down Under. I'm not sure why they cast Josh Gad in the lead role as Gary, a single father suffering from a literal case of puppy love. Maybe it was to attract the American market? Whatever the reason may be, he did a good job and the onscreen chemistry between Gad and Fisher was surprisingly believable. Isla Fisher as Mary, was adorable as usual. If you're expecting Olaf or the typical Gad humour you may be disappointed. This series is a drama not a comedy or horror.

Apart from the last episode it's not action packed, scary or full of Special FX, but at just under 3 hours in total, it's easy enough and engaging enough to binge. Who can't look at Isla Fisher for 3 hours?

This is not a standalone series. There needs to be a season 2 because the story hasn't finished.

What an engaging surprise
skpn12313 January 2022
I have to say upfront this is not at all my move genre - in fact, a totally unique offering nothing like anything I have seen and holding nothing that I would generally like. Yet I was totally captivated and binge watched all 6 episodes hoping another season comes soon.

The relationships are absolutely delightful, the cast brilliant and so many layers of meaning and significance. I felt like I could meet them down at the supermarket and have a chat - very relatable.

This mini series is 00% a bravo. Just don't review it expecting something standard - that is not fair as it is a tightly woven piece of relationship art with a little black comedy and supernatural features added for colour and texture. It is heartfelt and beautiful as a very ordinary man, his daughter and a lost soul find each other and learn to accept the idiosyncrasies each brings to the table.

Season one very engaging but ends where it starts to get really interesting. Season two is boring.

Warning: Spoilers
This six-episode series was shot within a short time in the middle of 2021 in Australia. Interestingly Australian actress Isla Fisher plays an American living in Australia. She has a big secret, she must isolate herself one night each month during full moon.

Quite by accident (car crash) she meets a single American dad (Josh Gad) living in Australia with his 11-yr-old daughter. They seem to have a healthy attraction for each other but this secret of hers keeps getting in the way. There is a climax of sorts when the three of them go sightseeing one day and get stranded in the desert overnight during a full moon. A couple of thugs don't realize what they are getting into.

We watched the six episodes in one 2 1/2 hour sitting. Each episode is 20-something minutes long. It definitely sets up for a sequel, actually it begs for a sequel, to see how the three of them sort out all the issues and move forward.

The "chemistry" between the main actors is good and the stories are interesting. Not great just interesting. Josh Gad sings a little. At home on Peacock streaming.

Edit March 2022: Interestingly I recently received an offer of a gift card in exchange for answering an on-line survey about this series and some ideas for the stories in the second season which I suppose is in production now. So I did, one of my suggestions is she have twins and one is like mom and the other like dad, sort of like the twins on "Superman and Lois." But it looks like they rejected my idea. Of note, I never received my gift card!!)

Edit October 2023: My wife and I started watching season two, we were not very impressed, the episodes drag. She quit so I jumped to the final episode and it takes a long time to get to the delivery of the baby, which only seems to set it up for a third season, which I will NOT watch. The show lost all of the interest it generated in season one and has become one that isn't interesting enough to watch.

Good emotional performances amidst an interesting fantasy scenario :-)
stevebondi16 January 2022
Sure the limited effects were a bit cheesy and it should have been a 2-hour movie instead of a 3-hour miniseries, but nevertheless it was enjoyable overall :-) All three main characters including the young girl gave convincing performances.

A fresh take on 'moon-crossed' lovers
donmccandless-8632014 January 2022
I became engaged at the get-go, and the story, the characters, picked up speed as the story raced along. The 'moon-crossed' lovers were evenly matched by the young actress that played the traumatized daughter.

There's a generous amount of humor, drama, and pathos in this Down Under tale about fate drawing people who need each other together, one collision at a time.

Sit back, turn off that part of your brain that wants to make everything rational and logical, and enjoy a howling good yarn.

One of those series that just go unnoticed
AfricanBro1 October 2022
The show's pretty confusing on what it's trying to be at first but it feels intentional so that you feel the same when watching it, confused. I don't know what kept drawing me to keep watching. I felt how Gary felt when Mary was disappearing out of nowhere, for the first couple episodes just asking what's going on. The acting is great by the three leads, the chemistry between them that helps you understand everything from each of their point of views. Pacing makes it seem all over the place and only starts to make sense later on and I couldn't have guessed to where this was going because it starts off as a romantic comedy which it is but there's more. The emotional aspect sorta falls off towards the end but I think that's a result of trying to conclude the story, and you're already invested by then so it's not much of a blow. It's very original and peculiar, probably something that could've been made into a movie as well which is something I'm grateful that they didn't try to drag out the six short 30min episodes.

I'm surprised it wasn't really advertised(maybe in Australia?), it's not the best thing you'll ever see but sorta a little gem still; probably forget about it in due time but I enjoyed watching it. It's not trying to do the most. Best to avoid all trailers and definitely something you must commit to watching in it's entirety and not giving up on the first episode.

I just read it's been renewed for S2, a little surprised because it felt like a miniseries plus the shock value, which the next season won't have, was one if it's best qualities. It's well made and very minimalist so there's a lot of places the story could still go so I'm curious which way it will.

Really Got Caught Up In The Characters
jhuebel16 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this. I took a star off because it was a little slow in a couple of places. And they liked to use "knowing glances" in a few spots. But other than that, this was really well done.

I wasn't sure about Josh Gad in a dramatic role, to be honest. Any time I hear his voice, I hear Olaf. But he does really well in this series.

The actress who plays his daughter is also very endearing. You really, truly feel for her and the emotional pain she's enduring.

Then there is the central premise, which I'm trying not to give away but is really kind of obvious. Isla Fisher's character is wonderful. Even though you know she's dangerous to everyone around her, you feel drawn to her and want to comfort her tortured soul.

I started watching this series last night and ended up staying awake until almost 4am to finish it. It was really that compelling. I hope there's a season 2.

Not enough happens
gpglenpeters25 October 2023
It's not a terrible show.

Some of the jokes land and the main characters are generally quite likeable but the conflicts aren't very compelling.

There are musical interludes or montages that you can skip without missing anything, and sometimes it feels like neighbours or home and away with a werewolf.

I can't recommend this as its not good enough for that but I also wouldn't say it needs to be avoided.

Some of the dialogue is fun and the acting from Isla Fisher, Josh Gad and Ariel Donoghue is good, probably better than the scripts and the show deserve.

Overall it's a bit of an odd mix that works quite well some of the time and feels like a bit of a stretch at others.

Waste of time

I couldn't get past the child bullying her parent. I would not allow any child to talk to or treat anyone as badly as the girl in this show treats adults. I couldn't get past the first show.

Suprise!! Great Show
Archangel32614 January 2022
I really enjoyed this show that I had never heard about just thought I would check it out. What a surprise it is really well done, great writing and acting. With all the shows now called things like, My Neighbor the murder, Story of a serial killer and My spouse my executioner, this was a refreshing work of fiction. For me it is so much better than reliving the lives of real life monsters. This is entertaining, they don't even beat you over the head with diversity, which for me is a much needed break. Don't get me wrong diversity is good, just not in every other program that isn't about murdering someone. Its a Drama, Love story with a little twist of Wxxxxxxxxx in London vibe but in Australia.

Unexpected Pleasure
anilakygt13 January 2022
I got into this show today not knowing anything about the plot and have not watched trailers or anything. I thought it was going to be a drama Show about two people grieving and moving on based on the first episode but I was very wrong. It is so much more and very fun! This will probably get hate reviews so i am rating it 10! But it truly does deserve a 10. I wish there were more episodes. Great job!

Love story with a twist
leoalexanderscott30 January 2022
Low budget Australian series with Americanism. Short love story chapter episodes allow you to watch casually. Its not original idea and even reminds me of copied ideas and directing from the 1980s Australian and American horror genre movies inpsiration for scenes. Parts of the non-essential plot seems hillarious from bad Adeliade drivers, to Victorian cliche, to over the top pedestrian busy suburban streets. Don't take me wrong, its very watchable and had great comments on fb from viewers. Season two would help wrap up some the questions, and now a "situation" that has developed.

Great story, good cast ensemble, love the Australian setting - NEEDS A SEASON 2!
heykateforever16 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot believe the downrates here! To be honest, I wasn't sure myself I wanted to continue after Episode 1. But I have learned NOT to base a show's worth on one episode. My husband and I got hooked by Episode 4 when the story began to heat up and the cast was more familiar and everything was falling into place. I loved the casting of Isla Fisher as the werewolf/love interest for Josh Gad's character. She is always amazing, and shines brightly in this gem of a series. Gad also is very good and the girl who plays his daughter does so with just the right attitude of a budding teenager. But it was Episode 6, the final episode, when I knew this was another great show as things come to a head and secrets are no longer possible. Then, it ended abruptly at a pivotal moment with nothing resolved which blew my mind and my husband's! So, a continuation is necessary!! We must know how this "pack" turns out!

Thank you, Peacock, for this wonderful show. NOW PLEASE GIVE US ANOTHER SEASON?

Not bad, not amazing.
marcino7213 January 2022
In an age of where sincerity is dead, everything needs to be deconstructed to the nihilistic terror or needs to be filled with meta jokes to remind audiences why what we're watching is dumb or a time in which every media we consume needs to make a political stance and must declare itself as important for the importance of humanity, it's nice to see something sincere. I've seen plenty of insincere romances, plenty of arthouse masterpieces such as "La Strada", Bell De Jour, 8 1/2, Black Narcissus, and stuff but if you're watching a show called "Wolf Like Me" to be on the same realm of cinematic expression then you're sadly mistaken. It's not the best mini-series ever made, but it's a fun one, and that's all this mini-series is asking to be. There's an effort in it that clearly works and it's quite charming in some areas. It approaches a lot of things within the show with the utmost sincerity, it treats its romantic aspects with a lot of sincerity. Sure, there are a lot of plot holes, characters make a lot of dumb decisions, plot lines get abandoned, but that's not what this series is about. It's about two very awkward people meeting each other, and their relationship. The other stuff is just a background noise to "Wolf Like Me"'s main focus. I appreciate the 20-28 minute runtime per episode, it doesn't drag, it doesn't bore anyone, and it moves its plot and its focus forward. I appreciate that. Isla Fisher's performance is really good and so is Josh Gad. Is it an amazing, genre-bending avant-garde all must witness in order to understand what quintessential cinematic art is? NO! No it is certainly not. Is it a fun and kinda hokey show to help fill time if you have nothing else to do? I'd say yes.

PLEASE NOTE: This rating is not a reflection of my enjoyment because I had a lot of fun watching it.

What a unique, fresh story. Love love loved it. Six short episodes, so easy to watch, and interesting characters. Josh Gad and Isla Fisher are a mismatched, yet gorgeous pair.

Olaf meets Rebecca Bloomwood in a dark comedy series set Down Under.
lisafordeay20 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Wolf Like Me is a 2022 Web TV Horror Drama series starring Frozen's Josh Gad and former Home And Away star Isla Fisher.

Created by Abe Foresythe, the story follows a widowed father named Gary(Gad) who is living in Adelaide Australia with his 11 year old daughter Emma(Ariel Donoghue). When the two are involved in a car accident, they meet a young quirky woman named Mary(Fisher) who has been living in Australia for 12 years after her husband died while on a trip to Prague.

However Gary slowly falls for Mary, but she acts strange with him and always runs for the hills at a certain time. It isn't until the end of Season 1 when we discover that the reason why Mary acts odd is because she's a werewolf as she got attacked by a dog(which was really not as it was a wolf) while she was in Prague with her husband and she ate him.

Overall this show was actually not that bad. It was interesting seeing Josh Gad in a TV show set in Austrailia and playing a widowed father, as I'm so used to hearing his voice as Olaf in Frozen, along with playing Lefou in the Live Action verision of Beauty And The Beast. Isla Fisher was good too as the quirky Mary. The practical effects are also very good(done by Ode Studios).

If you like An American In Paris or Teen Wolf than do check it out. Each episode is roughly 22 to 29 minutes long. Hopefully there will be another season of this as there is so much more to offer. Keep an eye out for Jake Ryan(who played Robbo in Home And Away).

That was really good. The acting was good. The characters believable.

I had never heard of it, but starting watching because of the genre and the fact that it was 6 short episodes. I felt like watching something quick.

My highest praise to the writers. The story was great. Thank you. You made my day better.

Mostly boring drama
RandomTard14 May 2022
I stopped watching midst first episode after getting just bored. Then I read some reviews here and gave it another go. It didn't really take that long to watch all 6 episodes, this is a really short season and they really shouldn't of wasted so much time with music scenes. This show is not as much a comedy as it is a romantic drama with fantasy elements thrown in to spice things up.

I still think it was mainly boring, it had some moments but most was just simply slow conversations with long breaks and too much music. The characters don't really act in a logical way and everything feels a bit forced. And the story doesn't make much sense either.

A good question was asked by the male lead that he later just apparently totally forgot about. Why the slit in the hatch?

Not a fantasy cliche i was expecting
MoodForDancing14 January 2022
I've started watching this show because I saw a fantasy genre series with a promising yet cliche plot.

Well, it's anything but that. It's a mix of drama with humour, often dark humour (similar to the type of humour usually provided by British shows) which is perfectly delivered by characters whose odd behavior gives this series an edge. Furthermore, storyline is pretty unpredictable maybe except for the last episode where you can tell from the start what major plot twist is just waiting to happen.

I haven't watched many Australian series but when I do I always seem to like it. So give it a chance and watch at least 3 episodes before you make your mind about it.
