Very Funny Comedian!!!
keirster15 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoy all types of comedy, from the innocent stuff like Cosby, Sinbad and Brian Regan...to the raunchy profane laced stuff by Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and others. This guy had me laughing out loud...and I was watching it by myself. In my opinion, the trick to watching his style of humor is to not be offended and remember that it is his opinion and he does this stuff to get laughs. He takes a stab at some things that others may deem taboo, but it is all for the sake of getting you to belly laugh and let go for a little while. This guy had me rolling off the couch in quite a few instances and I think you are going to be seeing a lot more of him. Great job Jim...you definitely have a new fan!

Steer clear if you're very Christian
jgrayson_au26 March 2010
I absolutely loved this. Jim Jefferies could be reading my mind, because I to am Australian and an atheist, and Jim pulls no punches. If you are an atheist, or if you're a Christian but don't take it literally, you can probably watch it and enjoy it. He does also pick on other religions, but Christianity wears the brunt of it.

However the religious humour dominates the first half. The second half works into a large story involving a specific sex act that I can't talk about on IMDb, but lets just say keep the kiddies elsewhere.

I should also add that, being an Australia, Jim swears like an Australian. So if you don't like swearing I'd steer clear.

As for the specific humour, the humour is "working class" and brutal, raw, in your face humour. As in, sexual abuse, physical abuse, child abuse, and so on become part of the jokes.

Defiantly not for everyone. The jokes will potentially offend and the subject matter is taboo, but if you can get past it, it's incredibly funny.

Religion, a vibrating egg and everything in between...

If you enjoy stand-up comedy, then "Jim Jefferies: I Swear to God" is a show that is well worth sitting down to watch.

The jokes that Jim Jefferies deliver here are funny, to the point and put out there with no wrapping, no cushioning, no boundaries and no concern. This is like a slap to the face, but Jim Jefferies does it so well. Despite the excessive amount of foul language and topics that could be considered offensive or disturbing by some, then Jim Jefferies do manage to deliver these with his Australian charm and accent in a manner that it becomes acceptable and funny.

Jim Jefferies manages to get well around topics in this show, ranging from religion and racism to his own family and childhood, as well as from drugs and alcohol to sex and a moment of clarity for the handicapped.

There is a lot of political incorrectness here and a lot of jokes below the belt. So some viewers may not just be suitable for this. Just a friendly word of warning.

Lots of laughs here, great jokes, good punchlines, hilarious guy. And to summarize this; just watch the show.

Absolutely Hilarious

I started laughing as soon as the show started. Jim is a very talented comedian and he pushes the limits of comedy to the max. Steer clear of this guy if you are easily offended or religious, he hits religion like a freight train. Personally, realizing that this particular show is rated TV-MA for a reason, I was prepared for some things that I may not like and was OK with that unlike some of the other reviewers who complain about being offended...(it's MA for a reason, if you're gonna cry about it, don't watch instead of whining online later} However, it turns out I have a lot of the same views as Jefferies and was literally in tears the entire time. If you like a comedian who pushes buttons and tags every single subject nobody else dares, Jim will easily be your new favorite comedian. Two Thumbs Up.

Excellent comedy

Be warned, this guy isn't for everyone. In fact, I'd say he's probably more often than not going to offend people than make them laugh.

Personally, I find him hilarious. I've seen him live at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and he was pure genius. And it's not just a 'guy' thing, either. My girlfriend thinks he's one of the funniest comedians she's ever seen!

This show is typical for his style though he was holding back a little at the start and built up to a great finale :) I wasn't sure what an American audience would make of him, to be honest, but he seems to have broken through the dross that normally surrounds a yank's humour gland. He's certainly very different to the usual 'average' comedian they'd get over there like Chris Rock, for example. I mean, they're quite funny but they just don't let rip like Jim :-D

Insanely funny!

The famous Australian comedian Jim Jefferies shows himself up on this HBO special and what's the result we get?

A comedy that's so funny you will most likely be unable to stop laughing for the whole hour it lasts.

And yes, I'll admit. I cried! :D

Whether he jokes about religions, sex, porn, sluts or his childhood experiences you just can't stop admiring this man.

He holds up no words, has no boundaries and does absolutely anything he wants.

What a great comedian - a complete opposite of Will Farrel and his latest pathetic George Bush show.

Absolutely hilarious

Loved it. His humor may not be for everyone, but if you're not in need of having any sticks removed from certain places, I'm sure you will enjoy it. A lot of his humor is quite raw and I would compare it to movies similar to Tropic Thunder. He covers religion, which could upset some folks, as he is not afraid to speak what's on his mind. He's also not afraid to make fun of himself, as he tells a very embarrassing story about what happened to him after purchasing some adult entertainment material.

My advice, if you need to have a stick removed....go get that done first, and then watch it.

Funniest comedian there is, if you can laugh at religion
felipewest17 April 2020
One of the funniest men on the planet! He says dirty and offensive stuff on stage, so if you are sensitive about religion, or the C word, you may want to skip this one.

You can ask for security upgrades, hotels can be warned of the event of your arrival and send security details to the floor, elevator, hallway, bathroom, and bedding areas. no problem. it is costly to protect you from their purists but for a few days it can be done. your web host is aggressive and demanding but i slum is scaring everyone you work with in all venues to near self extermination. fear is working - the Christians let the crap go but the mighty scourge has your management in a crisis of urine and feces.

you can demand security details for your loved ones after the show and be the man against all fraudulent beliefs - go get them you big guy you!

If you didn't get enough of this show read the negative reviews on here. It's a bonus round.
deloudelouvain12 May 2018
I just love Jim Jefferies. Makes me crack up everytime I watch one of his shows. And this show is exactly what I hoped it to be. I knew what I was going to get and I can't get enough of it. So saying I had a pretty good night in front of the telly isn't a lie. Him being an atheist, like I am also, and making fun about how dumb religious people are is one of my favorite things to watch. And this is done in America of all places, where religious people take their religion very very serious, I couldn't be more pleased. And just before I wrote my review on this show I read the negative reviews on here. I don't need to read the positive ones because they think just like me. But the bad reviews, they were like the icing on the cake. It's like Jim's show is not over yet. I just get a bonus round by reading those God fearing Christians. They are going to pray for our souls, we will go straight to hell etcetera... It's just great to piss those ignorants off. I want Jim Jefferies as president.

Dull unfunny man.
geesuz3 September 2010
I am watching this right now on HBO, and I haven't laughed once. It's not that it's offensive; it's that this man is blindingly unfunny. I don't care who a comic insults if there is an actual joke behind it ...somewhere.

I love Louis CK, Chris Rock (misogynist, yet damn funny), The late greats George Carlin, Bill Hicks and Richard Pryor.... Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, David Cross, Margaret Cho, Dana Gould, Jimmy Carr, Dylan Moran, ..all can be as insulting, arrogant and offensive as they please. Because they have the jokes to back it all up.

No one cares if a joke is PC or not. We just need a comedian to be funny. He needs to stop hiding behind outrageousness and write an actual joke.

Be funnier

Will be very sorry on judgement day!!

Warning: Spoilers
Jim is in deep need of prayer! God gave his only begotten son to save our souls.. In order to have your soul saved from sin you have to believe that Jesus is the son of God,ask him to forgive you for your sins and ask him into your heart to help you live a more Godly way!! If you chose to live another way your condemning your soul to be burned in hell for eternity...I'm a 40yr old man that has experienced many miracles from Jesus and am very thankful. To say the things that were said in this sick disgusting comedy act is condemning your soul to hell and having other idiots follow! We pray for you and others to see the light and someday meet Jesus in heaven and have a beautiful eternity that Jesus wants for you and has been crusified for!!

I Didn't Laugh
Urantia3 July 2010
While watching this rented DVD, it didn't take me too long to realize that this comedian is an atheist who was openly declaring his personal belief that he is right and everyone else is wrong about there being no God (despite the fact that the non-existence of God has yet to be proved). Perhaps I should have tried to practice a little bit of tolerance and overlook a view that I respectfully disagree with in the hopes of experiencing the desired response of laughter to something else he may have said (on a different topic, of course). But I didn't. His anti-God remarks became the elephant in the room that I simply could not ignore.

A comic that fails to be funny
jim-7527213 August 2021
Sarcasm is OK but when it is the only route to your comedy act then it is lazy and cheap. Anyone can write better comedy than this crap.

And nope I am not religious.
