Promising start but not horror
kigaiyuuto25 January 2022
Not scary as the trailer suggests it's more of a thriller whodunnit and a Catholic propaganda, production value is impressive, the places feel lived-in and authentic.

Episode 1 did well to pull me in, it's decent until the last 3 episodes which is a bit messy and has a little too many twists

Ending will be divisive but I like it.

Good show so far
starbux-16-81653625 June 2023
Two priests who understand medicine, science, and law are dedicated to investigating supposed miracles from around the world. In Season 1 priests Pedro Salinas, a doctor with a scientific bent, and Simon Antequera, a looser cannon, dispatched to the small Mexican town of San Acacio, to investigate the seeming miraculous recoveries of townsfolk who appeared to have died.

Some people gave a negative review because of the dubbing. The dubbing is awful, that's why I adjusted the settings so audio is in Spanish, and subtitles are in English. I guess some people didn't know you could do that.

Season 2 is being filmed.

Later-Day Inquisition
bertrandma10 December 2023
This does not sound very promising on paper: character-driven thriller about a pair of priests investigating alleged miracles in rural Mexico. But those two priests are multidimensional (the more religious one is trained as a medical doctor, the more skeptical one as a canon lawyer) and their interactions are snappy and mostly heartfelt. The rest of the cast is largely unremarkable but this 'dynamic duo' and a fairly tight plot, without frills or holes, manages to keep us interested. Said plot is nothing to write home about, but gives them time to shine and packs a few twists and turns. Unfortunately, once fully revealed it seems a little overstretched and the last two episodes are bogged down with Latino melodrama (lots of tears and handwringing, poorly acted dilemmas, perpetual dramatic music, etc.) On the whole it is a decent piece of television, and a relatively nuanced (if not terribly accurate) depiction of Catholicism.

What an ending
itriatay99529 January 2022
Brilliant series that needs a second season. Great acting and scenario. At the same time, there are many criticisms towards the actions of the religious elite. A must watch !!! One of the best series I have ever seen.

Deserves a second season
anwarcito10 February 2022
Really enjoy the series, it shows Catholic Church like it is, and the scandals it has had on the last years. It also shows that not all men and women of faith are all the same.

It deserves a second season, fun to watch, and very human characters.

The ending is just great, don't miss it!!!

Love the chemistry between the lead characters
irenelee-3393025 December 2023
First, there's no need to watch this with English dubbing. Just change the setting. I saw all episodes in both Spanish and with English dubbing. Yes the original Spanish is better if course. But the dubbed version is fine.

I don't understand why people complain about the dubbing instead of just changing the setting to watch it.

On Amazon, the Paramount Plus channel allows it.

I hope there's a season 3. I love the chemistry between the guys and the developing storyline with Pedro. Sister Emilia is a hoot. Simon is not an atheist as one reviewer mentioned. Not at all. He has doubts which is not uncommon even for priests.

NO to dubbing !
linda-plant220 July 2022
I'm a huge fan of Miguel Angel Silvestre, after watching his outstanding performance in Velvet on Netflix. Therefore I was looking forward to seeing him on Paramount+ in The Envoys.

There is NOTHING WORSE than knowing how an actor sounds, then to watch him act to someone else's voice ! Aside from the tongue and mouth movements, this was awful. Far far better to have the original dialogue with sub titles. I know how MAS sounds when he speaks English and its certainly NOT the ridiculous American accent coming out of his mouth. It totally ruined it for me.

I agree with another reviewer that the production was not top quality, and over all was a bit second rate.

I enjoy plenty of foreign dramas (Netflix) in original form with subtitles, so why cant Paramount do the same.

2nd Season Audio dubbing makes it unwatchable
wendyagr17 December 2023
The second season has English as the original audio so the subtitles are only in Spanish. The English dubbing does not match the actors personalities and talent. Although I don't understand the show when watching it in Spanish at least I can enjoy the show. I prefer watching the show in Spanish instead of the obnoxious English dubbing. The relationship between The Envoys is absent with English dub, which is the heart of the show. I don't a season 3 if they're relying on American English speakers as the dubbing makes it unbearable to watch. I enjoyed the 1st season and I'm happy it is still available with the original Spanish audio track.

Goodness! What to say, what to say!
info-9070117 September 2023
I wanted to like it. The pacing was great. The editing was good. But there are so many problems with the writing that it is difficult to take it seriously, even though I watched it all the way to the end, just out of sheer curiosity.

The characters were interesting and well developed in their shallowness, even though they needed more depth, which makes the bad writing a tragedy. It went for shock factor and twists, so it became bumpy and uneven, so their dialog was inconsistent with the action sometimes.

The bizarre subtitles not matching the overdub was downright laughable like an old Asian karate movie whee things didn't match, ever.

I certainly don't need another season, though if done better, it could be good.

Poor direction, poor acting
oscarsanchezg28 December 2021
This is supposed to be a supernatural or psychological thriller. So many directors just can´t create a suspense atmosphere. They just tell the story.

Actors should at least study a little of padre behavior. A metrosexual, wearing jeans, atheist father; and a gay father. I am strictly talking of the performances, not the actors.

Story is getting complex and I am guessing the end will be disappointing.

Maybe it's a translation issue?
awgrant515012 June 2022
Possibly dreadful because the dubbing actors are awful. Or it doesn't translate well. Feels and looks like something produced by community theater. Or a Tela novella.

waste of time
ana_paulinag24 January 2022
Lazy writing, a lot of unresolved issues, it looked promising but is dissapointing. And please if you're writing about burned people try to investigate a little about how they take care of them. I hope it won't get a second season.

Dubbing is unwatchable
simon-8157121 December 2023
Heard good things about The Envoys.but on Paramount+ it is very badly dubbed into American English. There's no option to watch it in the original language, which I think is Spanish. You can see if dubbed into Mexican Spanish. Ridiculous! Why ruin a show by dubbing? I know some countries (such as Germany) love dubbing but I certainly don't. I had to turn off after about 10 minutes. Please don't dub but if you must use decent AI that does it better than the clowns that dubbed The Envoys into ruination. It would certainly be a miracle if Paramount just showed this in its original language with subtitles.

Very disappointed
quequitom25 December 2023
Started with an interesting idea, then by episode 5 went into childish "terror" thing. It's about taking serious issues and turning to dumbest entertainment. Anyway, to each his own. Not even most charming Sivestre's look kept me watchin; dropped out without finishing even that episode.

Beautiful landscapes, "San Acacio" is doubtlessly worth visiting (wherever it is).

The actors ate commendable, all of them, even the small parts are played with ease and insightfully. Several plot holes as for the "suspense" area, so don't wait for too much there. Some consulting with catholic advisers can be noted, to some extent. Even so... No.
