How did he get away with it for so long?
Sleepin_Dragon15 October 2022
Still living with his grandmother, now working in a chocolate factory, Jeff continues to assault young men, and what's worse, he gets away with it.

What is so sickening to see, is that he wasn't totally anonymous, I always assumed that he'd cleverly slipped through the net, but that simply wasn't the case, it does appear very strongly to be the case that he used his privilege to full advantage, specifically targeting members of the gay community that were incredibly low down on the priority list. It's quite shocking..

The courtroom scene made my jaw drop, how many attacks could have been prevented if he took it seriously.

Peters impresses once again, I'm a huge fan of his, but his icy cold performance as Dahmer is quite something.

8/10.

Evan Peters...
AsianTalentHollywood22 September 2022
He's amazing not just in his acting but his embodiment of the character. Nash and Learned are also brilliant. Performances are deserving of the rating. The drawback is the sensationalized depiction, not just the focus on the grotesque murders but with dark lighting, butcher shop meat and overall looking too much like American Horror Story instead of a based on real life. At ten episodes it's too long to tell this story unless it had more focus on the victims and their story, especially the Laotian family who had two brothers victimized by Dahmer. Development of victims story could have made this more interesting and less disturbing, but more importantly made this about telling the victims story. Sensationalize story wasn't necessary and missed an opportunity for original storytelling from the victims perspective and the impact Dahmer had on so many lives beyond just those he murdered. Dahmer's story is not even about sexuality which seems to be the focus. He was a very mentally disturbed person who craved power and control.

Jeffrey and the Chocolate Factory

Warning: Spoilers
Learning the Jeffrey had worked in a chocolate factory gave an even more sinister shade to this series - yet another way in which he tainted something innocent and beautiful.

The performances of the core and guest actors were especially powerful. In particular, the courtroom scenes.

I feel that there was too much of a suggestion that prison-based interventions re: JD's alcoholism might have somehow steered him on a different path were misjudged.

The inter-change between the interrogation room in the 'present' and the 'past' was used to very good effect.

The personal and systematic responses to issues of race are very well handled.

The Blame Game
Qoenntrell17 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is called "Blood on Their Hands". But whose hands exactly? Notice how throughout the episode we were never shown a scene where Dahmer actually stained his hands with blood, except of course... Jeff's father. It's a brilliant way to show the different sides that enabled Dahmer's progressive obsessive tendencies. We were shown the racial prejudice by the police who didn't push harder, the judge for giving a repeat offender and pedophile a second chance (like why?) and his very own father here who laments his part to play in all of this. It's all very heartbreaking.

The look on the black woman's face as the judge said "I'm going to give you a second chance" was urgh. It's all very telling about the flaws of the American judiciary and prisoner rehabilitation system when Dahmer's father was dismayed to find out that his prison sentence did not have him visits from any medical professionals to reintegrate him into society at all. We were shown various flashbacks showing all the red flags and all, and Dahmer trying to cover it up.

This episode highlighted a lot of Dahmer's apathy for his victims when the first thing he had to say when hearing the names of those he killed for the first time was how they matched. Really powerful scene.

I think an important motif throughout the episode is also distance. Almost everyone that Dahmer meets has tried to keep his distance from him. His very own grandmother who as Dahmer himself had said "Didn't want to see what he was doing". Sure, she did try to stand up to him but not once did she ever connect to him and understand his POV. After the praying away the gay approach the previous episode she tried to intrude on his homosexual tendencies and deflecting it to alcohol. Every. Single. Time. Even his dad too. Alcoholism doesn't cause people to molest others, to be a pedophile or to masturbate in public FYI. The only people he could exert his control over are dead ones, those that couldn't leave him unlike his birth mother who left him alone, his own father who said he was at his wits end with. His own grandmother who chased him out of the house all the same, albeit she was probably the only one who tried to help him. We see this distance the smallest as Dahmer fantasises about hugging the dead body had he managed to dig deeper into the soil.

Really good episode, my favourite of the series. Shows the downfall of Dahmer as he goes into a downward spiral of his crimes and how those around him reacted to his red flags.

Earlier To Prison

Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Jeff, it is 1987 and he still lives with his grandmother. Jeff gets interrogated about the death of Steven. Jeff tells the police how he killed his victims. Jeff invited Ron over at his house. Jeff sended Ron away. Ron ended up in the hospital. Jeff got arrested by the police. Jeff defended himself in court. Jeff almost got caught by his father. Jeff is going to prison for sexual assault. Jeff enters the prison. Nice Episode of Dahmer Season 1, great to see how many layers Jeffrey Dahmer his story actually has. He went to prison earlier! Looking forward for more of this!
